Baby brain, just burnt the onions on the stove Sad

TinyTear · 12/11/2014 17:17

Fb groups are usually secret. No one will see you are a member...

Fb is blocked at work and mn is not, so I would still be here Grin

FreedomHuntress · 12/11/2014 17:25

Even so, I might know one of you in RL! :)

TheBooMonster · 12/11/2014 17:26

I've set the group up as secret but if people add me on Facebook (check littleluna89's link) or pm me their details then I can add them to my friends to add to the group there are 3 of us thus far!

Ooh thread five already!! I'm up for Facebook, will sort out joining the group in a bit.

Had a crappy day at work, cannot wait till maternity leave! Counting down the days...

Baby was having a party this afternoon, had around 20 mins where I felt lots of big movements.

Going to read back now through both threads...

19 weeks today x

TinyTear · 12/11/2014 17:56

from the last thread, my mum didn't breastfeed me. I was always told she didn't have enough milk

after having my DD and breasteeding like a champ (and still doing it at 2y9m) I discovered she even got given injections to dry the milk, so in my opinion she didn't try hard enough... i am guessing i wasn't putting enough weight like the HV wanted and they swapped me...

which is bollocks as if the baby is happy and thriving , lines mean nothing. my DD was born on the 50th centile because of my GD, I think, but then while putting on weight, she wasn't putting on enough and settled on the 9th centile line... Health Visitors wanted me to change to formula or supplement and I just didn't go to that clinic again...

And true enough, my DD is still on the 9th centile as that is just her line, she is a dinky pup...

I will be willing to answer questions about BF when the time comes as I was a regular in my breastfeeding cafe and got lots of support there...

ChickenMe · 12/11/2014 18:03

I am 38 EDD 04/04/15 and will be 20 weeks on Sat.

I am determined to breastfeed. I pray it works out. My Mum bf my brother till he was three. This was in the 80s. She was a midwife and unbelievably with me they tried to tell her I was too small and she wasn't making enough milk so she should use formula. She knew I was fine and ignored them.

Lindalove · 12/11/2014 18:09

Hi I'd prob not use a facebook group - I only join local groups on it!

Someone asked what reusable nappies I got? So far I got a bumgenius flip, bumgenius v4 pocket, a totsbots easyfit and a fuzzibunz nappy. I got them all for free using a council voucher.

I'm also going to buy a totsbots bamboozle (best for nights apparently) and a wonderoos pocket and then see how I get on with that total list. Hoping that at least one will work (though maybe not straight away as it depends on how big baby is.)

cinnamongreyhound · 12/11/2014 18:26

I think with a supportive mum who knows what she's looking for you will be fine ChickenMe. The midwives I encountered weren't as well trained as I believe they should be and so I trusted that bf should be that painful for too long. I didn't have any family members alive who had bf or any friends so was tough. I had slightly sore nipples with ds2 as they get used to being used but no actual injuries, thrush and only very mild mastitis which I solved myself. I was very strict with latching him and he was a good feeder as well as not being as hungry as ds1 which helped.

I have a bumgenius v4 too, I think the pocket style will work better as it will dry much quicker than and all in one while still being easy to use.

OneDayLikeThis2013 · 12/11/2014 18:35

Just checking in to the new thread. I don't get chance to post much but do read and keep up with you all (especially in the middle of the night after many wees and unable to fall back to sleep!)

I also seem to have dropped off the stats, could someone add me? OneDay, 27, no DC, MMC June 2014, EDD 26/04/15

I would really love to join a fb group but we haven't gone fb public (and probably won't) so can someone explain how I can join 'secretly'?!

StuntNun · 12/11/2014 18:54

I'm officially retiring my Stuntman secret identity now as my DH has given me the all clear to tell the world I'm expecting. My SIL is on Mumsnet and DH didn't want her to find out before he told his parents and it took him a while to work up the courage! Anyway my bump is making the announcement for me now so he couldn't have kept it secret much longer.

In my opinion a lot of the issues people have when breastfeeding are due to inadequate support. Even if a midwife or health professional has breastfed herself that doesn't mean she is an expert. My DS3 was latching on fine but then gradually slipping further off the breast but it took an expert observing me feed to work out what was going on as the latch initially looked good. If anyone plans to breastfeed then try and get a breastfeeding expert to give you some tips. It's normal to have soreness as your nipples get used to it but it shouldn't be a painful experience. La Leche League offer support, the Kellymom website is a mine of information and as always, Mumsnet is a great place to get help and support.

londonlivvy · 12/11/2014 19:03

My mum bf all of us for three months and then moved to evaporated milk. Apparently formula wasn't widely available and my parents lived in the back end of nowhere so the doc suggested that.

I bf DD no problem, exclusively for five months then mixed feed for another month. hoping to do so again this time.

lila35 · 12/11/2014 19:04

Just marking my place so the thread comes up in I'm on list...

Lauren82000 · 12/11/2014 19:06

My hospital had a group of ladies called star buddies they helped with latching and techniques in hospital and ran the local feeding groups, they text me every so often just to check in as although I had initial trouble in the hospital once I was home I forced myself to get the hang of it and did within a feed or two. It was still nice to know that I had advice at the end of the phone and if the group was a bit closer I would of gone but didn't really feel like socialising too much after DD was born I had enough visitors to the house that any spare moment to myself was bliss.

Chances are you'll have a local support group near you and any mw or hv worth their salt would have the info for those to let you know.

TheBooMonster · 12/11/2014 19:10

Right ladies. If you look for Diamonds 2015 and whisper a member your mumsnet name we can get you added faster, and then we can switch it back to secret, but it's just closed atm so you will need approval and anyone can give that.

OneDay the name should be subtle enough that people on your feed won't pick up on it, and if they go and look it has a snowy view from the window at my old house, so it doesn't scream babies. There's no way to be secret from the other members once you're on, but people looking in won't know what the group is for. I will also add you onto the stats thread.

stun I completely agree that good support is key to breastfeeding, there are no LLL folk round my area though which is a pain, but I think i've found a breastfeeding specialist who doesn't live too far out...

Boo I can't find it on FB! Can you send me a link please? I'll pm you my real name if it's easier for you to add me that way x

BrixtonBunny · 12/11/2014 19:33

My mum breastfed all of us until we were between 18-24 months I think, and my DP was also breastfed for at least a year, so there's never been any doubt that I want to give it a damn good go! It does seem like something which can be painful, though I know my mum loved it so hoping I take after her and don't have too many problems!

If all goes well will probably try and express so DP can do some feeds at some point - but it seems quite unpleasant using a breast pump?

OneDayLikeThis2013 · 12/11/2014 19:39

I can't find it either? boo I'll pm you my name - could you add me?

Wineandchoccy · 12/11/2014 19:50

I can't find the pram that I saw today Sad the lady told me where she had bought it from and the baby was only 8 week old so I'm going to ring the pram shop tomorrow and do my best to describe it.

Those that are joining the facebook group will you still post on here?
I don't think I'm going to join facebook as I have managed for years without it.

wine I fully intend to post here too, it's just it's so much easier to post photo's on there and see the bumps growing, and we can add links for useful websites, and make files of lists of things in a way that isn't so easy on here. It's intended to supplement these threads rather than replace them.
