The hospital one I went too focused on natural too. Made me giggle as they had a knitted breast for demonstrating breast feeding and a tub which they put glitter and all sorts in to show how many different nutrients are in it. Thought it was a bit childish myself and a bit of a waste of a weekend but we came out of it the other side still woefully unprepared as any first time parents. You just have to get on with it and ask your mum if you get stuck. I had a thing about bathing DD, I had no clue so my mum did her first bath while we watched! Very informative! Wink

feeling absolutely rotten and the pharmacist was no help. He basically said all i can have for this terrible cold is a bowl of hot water to make steam. offered no oils, or potions to add to the water. can't have strepsils and paracetamol are pretty useless. managed to get about 4 hours kip but kept waking up unable to breath.

someone mentioned some sort of vapour rub that can be used while pregnant but i can't find the post now, can any of you remember? pharmasist told me not to use vicks :(

got a wedding to attend this afternoon but not sure i'll even make it through the ceremony, struggling to get anything done at work let alone leaving early to get to our friends wedding :(
on the plus side when i woke up at 3am i felt a little wriggle which is the first time i've felt anything. that made me feel better so I told Max thanks (felt a bit weird talking to my belly though lol)

EbwyIsUpTheDuff · 28/11/2014 11:52

awww well done, Max!

sorry you feel so rotten, Hiding

Hiding, www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/12-tips-prevent-colds-flu-1. And cut our dairy if you haven't already - it is mucous-forming and means your cold stays for longer, and you feel worse as you are all bunged up.

So cute of Max to be looking out for his mama already!

18+4

FreedomHuntress · 28/11/2014 12:01

*cut OUT dairy ...

Hidingthefear · 28/11/2014 12:30

thanks everyone : ) at least i get some sympanthy from you while DH reminds me i need to sow his pants when we get home before the wedding. Glad he's told me with just 3 hours notice!! 2 hours left in work, will feel better when i'm not at my desk i'm sure haha

Thanks for the link freedom some things to try there : ) hope it's gone before Thursday #11 says flying will only make me feel worse. going to go and make some hot vimto i think.

at least i'll remember his first kick ;)

OneDayLikeThis2013 · 28/11/2014 12:37

hiding that was me re the vapor rub. It's for newborns/babies and is called snufflebabe. I found it not in the pharmacy section but in the baby section of Tesco.

Wow lots of Londonders here. I'm in Cambridgeshire - anyone in my neck of the woods. We've also decided against the NCT classes, purely from a cost point of view. We also have lots of friends all at similar stages in their lives so lots of babies and little ones around.

Ow ow ow, I've had horrid sciatic type pain since yesterday and am a bit of an invalid right now. I've managed to get an emergency physio appt this afternoon to pick up crutches and a bump belt but am looking to see an osteopath/physio privately too. Knew I was at risk from hip/pelvic problems (I had hip dysplasia as a baby and am hypermobile) but wasn't expecting to be on crutches already!!

Hidingthefear · 28/11/2014 12:42

Thanks oneday hopefully i'll be able to nip to tesco before the wedding. hope i don't stink the room out with menthol :/ haha

FizzyBubbly · 28/11/2014 13:11

Hope you feel better soon Hiding

I think with the NCT (or any) courses it depends on who runs it. The lady who did ours made it clear at the start that she would cover what we wanted to know, including C Sections, epidurals, bottle feeding etc. We all wrote down what we felt we needed more info on and that's what she focused on over the two days. Was brilliant!

Of course, they don't have the reputation for 'all natural' for nothing so I guess it's just pot luck who you end up with

cinnamongreyhound · 28/11/2014 13:22

Sounds like my NHS classes with ds1 were quite good then. We were show forceps and vontouse and had a video of a water birth, one in a bed and cs. One lady said afterwards 'not sure I want to do that' about the natural delivery which shocked me, how can you get that far along in pregnancy without realising how the baby is going to get out?!?!

I don't think anyone will hate you for having an elcs TinyTear. Everyone has to make their own decisions of their birth and what suits them best.

I am in suffolk OneDayLikeThis 2013, so closer than London but not really close!

catsofa · 28/11/2014 13:30

Hiding Vicks also do a kids version of normal Vicks which should be ok to use, and Calpol do a saline nasal spray for babies which is fine.

TinyTear · 28/11/2014 13:42

Boots have a saline nose spray anti flu and cold that is suitable for pregnancy as well

Zahrah5 · 28/11/2014 14:19

Hello joining up late

my name is Zahrah, expecting my first, my date is April 27.

Would like to ask if any of you first time moms in late April are already feeling the movements?

And another thing, anyone is shopping for baby clothes yet? I just bought 2 cute outfits and now feel ridiculous. They are not even baby style but the grown-up adult looking unpractical things, size 3-6. I think I am going to return it, just crazy early.

Lauren82000 · 28/11/2014 14:41

Wow Cinnamon I thought everyone knew where babies come from? Surely when your at school you get the birds and bees talk, complete with videos?! I don't understand how someone could plod along under a rock and just expect the baby to teleport out when it's ready.

Siarie · 28/11/2014 15:05

I don't know what your talking about Lauren, I teleported out of my mum at birth. Yup, no way I came out any other gross way. Imagine if we could remember being born Shock

Siarie · 28/11/2014 15:08

Hi Zahrah, we share the same EDD. I've been feeling movements for a few weeks now. Don't feel bad about buying clothes many of us has done so.

I'm going to go full out after the 20 week scan with purchasing. I like being ready but I want to make sure all the vital organs developed ok first lol!

BananaToast · 28/11/2014 15:38

Maybe it was seeing what birth was actually like that scared her - I think everyone has a general idea of how it works but reality might have been a bit of a shock.

Hi Zahrah, I'm due on the 20th and have been feeling movements since 17 weeks, but I think it's normal to feel them any time up to about 22 (possibly 24?) weeks, so I wouldn't worry if you haven't felt any yet.

I've not bought much yet but I did buy a set of sleepsuits the other day going brand new for a bargain on ebay. I've also started stocking up on baby wipes, but I use those as facewipes anyway so it doesn't seem too baby-specific and scary. I'd planned not to start buying things until after the 20 week scan, but might end up ordering the pram this weekend as the one we like is on offer for Black Friday and getting it now will save us some money.

Zahrah5 · 28/11/2014 16:01

Thanks Siarie.
It is amazing we share the same day.

Banana Toast

what stroller are you going to get? Seems so overwhelming to choose. I really need to start my reading on this. I went couple of time to Mothercare and walked out confused. They seems to have great deals now.

I have been feeling some bubbles and nudges last week. Then some days nothing. Today I am feeling some funny things around my belly button, seems kind of high.

I already had my "20" weeks scan. I took advantage of my vacations and got my scan done by prenatal specialist last week while in other country, I was only in 18th weeks, but he checked everything and all looked good.

I will have my regular NHS one in 1 week from now but I am not worrying anymore.

Keeping fingers crossed for you ladies your scans will end up all good.

Zahrah I think we're going for the Mamas and Papas Sola2. Need to ask if we can try it in our car boot to make sure it fits ok before we buy though - only got a little car! We narrowed it down by working out priorities for it - e.g. we wanted a travel system that had option of a carrycot/to clip on car seat, ideally a one-piece fold with the seat on as we live in a flat and don't have lots of space to store an unfolded pushchair, etc.

We liked the look of the Bugaboo Cameleon but it's more than we wanted to pay and I didn't like that it could only be folded in two pieces, so I looked online at Mothercare and Mamas and Papas for prams that looked similar in design and went from there.
