Just back from the MW this baby doesn't want to conform to the tape measure either!!! So 2 weeks after being signed off to await delivary it looks like I'm going back up the hospital.......I have the hatred for the tape measure back!

fourmonthstogo · 27/01/2015 12:08

I've just had mine measured too, coming up a little large but not enough to worry about apparently. What about yours where , why have they referred you?

ZylaB · 27/01/2015 12:15

The tape measures are notoriously unreliable! I was measuring 2 weeks ahead in the tape, the day after had a growth scan as I'm diabetic and she was smack bang on 50th percentile for all measurements!

Wherediparkmybroom · 27/01/2015 12:33

Too small again, it happend with both of the others, I only had scan last week and got signed off back to the midwife! If this one is anything like the last two she will be laying in my back.

fourmonthstogo · 27/01/2015 12:36

It seems a bit too convenient to me to be reliable, one size fits all isn't that realistic surely? ! Anyway, I've gone away happy as she thinks he's head down (although I am well aware she could be wrong about that too!)

Wherediparkmybroom · 27/01/2015 12:41

I've always said that the growth charts were optimistic, I'm normally 8 stone and yet they use they same chart for a size 18 woman. She was already 4lb according to the last scan with 6 weeks to go so we are looking at a healthy baby just not a ten pounder! I just dislike hospital antenatal I'm always waiting between 3 and 4 hrs which isn't fun with a bored toddler.

NotAQueef · 27/01/2015 13:29

My midwife didn't even get the tape measure out at my last appointment she just felt fundal height with her hands and said size seems fine. Not sure if she forgot or just sees no point! Will see what happens on Friday when I go again.

Gudgyx · 27/01/2015 16:06

I have never had a measurement with tape measure from the midwife. Not once! Not concerned as I've heard its not accurate whatsoever, plus growth scans coming up fine. She has a feel about, but thats that it.

Amazing how areas differ with these things, if you hadnt had 2 children already broom where they'd found the same, that reaction could panic you!

Wherediparkmybroom · 27/01/2015 16:32

I panicked with the last 2! MW just rang bye bye Friday morning while they scan again....now to find cover for the business and school run cos it looks like I'm going to be a human ping pong ball between the MW and the hospital for the next six weeks or so....

3isthemajicnumber · 27/01/2015 20:44

Oh my god I just lost another long post. God knows what I'm doing with them!
Anyway both my dc's have been back to back. First was a typical story of 30 hour labour followed by a forceps delivery. Second was 2 hours in hospital and then bish bash bosh.they didn't even realise he was back to back until he popped out that way. Gas and air only.

Gudgyx · 27/01/2015 21:29

Ouch 3 ?? that's a sore one!!

Meer I got that lady, got a massage booked for Friday at 7.30! Can't wait thank u!

m33r · 27/01/2015 21:57

No problem gudgy. Let me know if she's good: want to get mine booked in for over mat' leave. If she asks where you heard from her, I got her from the Lanarkshire daisy foundation (always think it's useful for self employed to know these things!)

I'm measuring two weeks as per tape measure but not worried in the slightest. Makes me wonder about the post code lottery thing though since gudgy and I are in the SAME health board - just the luck of the mw I guess!

Gudgyx · 28/01/2015 11:25

Will do, quite looking forward to it actually she seems lovely.

I'm annoyed today. OH has just told me he's read an article that says people who have stopped smoking because they are pregnant are getting 400 incentive payment. I stopped smoking January last year, but was still on an ecig when I found out I was pregnant. I stopped that then, but thats potentially 400 we've missed out on grr

Wherediparkmybroom · 28/01/2015 11:28

I've got a very young midwife so she's being carefull. I just wish they would do away with those tape measures!

Pisghetti · 28/01/2015 11:46

It was only a trial Gudgy - it's not something that is actually being offered.

Half of the pregnant women in the trial were offered shopping vouchers to the value of £400 if they stopped smoking (checked through breath, urine and blood tests) plus standard NHS support and the other half just had the normal NHS support. The results showed twice as many women stopped smoking with the additional incentive and the idea is to repeat the research in other areas in the UK (although the idea of financial incentives to encourage people to stop harmful behaviours is controversial).

Gudgyx · 28/01/2015 14:06

Ahh thanks Pisghetti! He only told me in a quick text message so wasnt sure of the story behind it.

MGFM · 28/01/2015 17:44

I think the tape measure is a load of nonsense.

I had to go to the consultant on Friday to get measured again. It was a different consultant this time. She gripped the baby's head really really hard. I made a comment and she said, 'sorry did I hurt you', I said, I wasn't worried about me, I was worried about the baby inside wondering who the hell was squeezing his head so hard'. This is the 3rd person to grab is head and I swear this time it was really really aggressive and I just didnt like it one bit. If I have her again I am going to ask her not to squeeze his head. You wouldn't do it to a new born so why do they think it is ok to do when he is still in the womb? I mean I know that they have the feel through skin, the uterus wall and the amniotic fluid but still....

Anyway, on another matter....is anyone getting daily period type cramps??? People keep saying it is probably braxton hicks but I have no idea!

theonewiththenoisychild · 28/01/2015 18:11

another one who thinks tape measure is a load of rubbish after today anyway. had growth scan today he's measuring bigger than my 2 other dc's but still fairly small (just above 10th centile)

theonewiththenoisychild · 28/01/2015 18:12

just to add he was measuring above all the lines by the tape measure Shock

fourmonthstogo · 28/01/2015 18:40

Perhaps I won't end up with a 10 lb baby after all despite the tape measure claiming I measure 2 weeks ahead!

M27J5M · 28/01/2015 19:05

MGFM - yes to the period type cramps, getting them in my back too to the point I'm ending up in tears, this is when I went into labour with my DS so its been worrying me a little!

m33r · 28/01/2015 21:42

mgfm yes to period cramps. They are new to me too so when I got them today white strong I actually prepared lots of things for work as if I wouldn't be in on Friday Blush thinking he might come tomorrow. Glad it seems to be normal though! Phew!

m33r · 28/01/2015 21:43

I should say they were quite mild and not how I imagined Brixton hicks - just standard period oain - just thought be night be coming be they're new to me

M27J5M · 28/01/2015 23:21

I never got braxton hicks with my 1st and the pains I was getting were similar to how my labour started with DS so I panicked and still am a little but it keeps easing off so think all is well

Gudgyx · 29/01/2015 10:29

Ladies have any of you not had the whooping cough vaccine?

I was concerned about it as my mum told me she couldnt have it when she was pregnant with any of us 3, as she was epileptic. We couldnt have it as baby's either.

I questioned my midwife about it, she had no clue. I asked a midwife at my new practice, she said someone else had asked the same question so she was looking into it and would get back to me. She never did. No one can give me a def answer as to whether or not its okay so I havent gotten it. Am I doing the wrong thing?
