I got it just after Christmas but there was no questions asked about my health etc so I didn't even know you couldn't get it because of epilepsy etc, I don't have anything like that anyway but nurse didn't think to ask! Maybe chase up the mw and see if she has found out yet

Butterpuff · 29/01/2015 11:15

Can you chase up your MW Gudgy or maybe ask your GP, if you want the vaccine it would be a shame for you not to get it just because the MW didn't get back to you. Also time must be running out if you want it. Doesn't it have to be before a certain number of weeks? It does seem like most don't know much about it. I was told by one MW that I wouldn't need it as I had whooping cough as a child so would have natural immunity to pass on to bump and by another than my natural immunity would have failed by now so I did need it. No consistency of advice at all, and on the whole I think all the MW at my MLU are very good.

On another note. I moved back home yesterday, the house is still covered from top to bottom in brick and plaster dust but I don't care, its lovely to be in my own house again. Grin

Ive refused all vaccines offered while[pregnant, Im not so much against them just have alternative views. I think its one of those very personal choices.
I hope everyone is doing ok, ive been a wreck this week from getting no sleep and lots of pain and being feeling very unstable. I finally opened up to partner how bad I had been feeling as he was getting worried and thought I was unhappy with him and our relationship. Last night he even remembered something his old boss told him years ago in America that helped his wife when she had a lot of hip/pelvic pain during pregnancy. so he wraps his hands/arms around my hips and applies pressure as much as I like, it felt wonderful. he did it again a few times and I actually got a good few hours sleep last night! The relief doesn't last to long but it made a huge difference to me.

Pisghetti · 29/01/2015 13:26

Gudgy it used to be the case that people with epilepsy (or a family history of epilepsy) weren't given whooping cough vaccine due to concerns over it causing seizures but research since then has shown no link. So your mum was given the correct advice at the time but our understanding has moved on since then. I had it a few weeks ago. I was only asked if I had any allergies. I'd read up on it beforehand and was happy to have it but was surprised to hear it actually wasn't just whooping cough but also diphtheria, tetanus and polio! So much for my research....

fishfingerSarnies · 29/01/2015 14:00

I haven't had it because I keep forgetting to book it. Woops. Will call Gp today.

Gudgyx · 29/01/2015 14:47

Thanks pisghetti. I was just concerned as no one really seemed to know whether I could get it or not. Its all so confusing :(

Pisghetti · 29/01/2015 15:19

Is it a fairly recent thing getting the vaccine in pregnancy? It does seem like a lot of HCPs aren't sure what's going on! The epilepsy thing isn't still relevant though so you shouldn't be too concerned about that.

This thread has slowed down quite a lot! It might be nice if we can get a fresh one going for the births? I'm quite surprised no one has popped early (as far as I can tell)

fourmonthstogo · 29/01/2015 15:27

I haven't had the vaccine, I was in two minds and the hcp's really don't seem to be able to give much helpful information. Its still relatively new, 2012 it started being given routinely I think. I checked out the stats for whooping cough in my region and they were comparatively low so I decided risk was minimal. But I hadn't definitively made up my mind and now time seems to be getting away with me and it will be too late before I know it!

Wherediparkmybroom · 29/01/2015 15:46

I didn't have it I haven't been anywhere nr the health centre, bit late now. I did have one two years ago with the last baby so maybe it's still active!

pinkandstripey · 29/01/2015 17:07

I'm 35 and a bit weeks and I've just (today) had the wc jab, and nurse just checked I was over 28 weeks (hate to think how massive I'd be by the end if I wasn't!), so not sure how late is too late if there is a cut off.

pinkandstripey · 29/01/2015 17:10

*or if there even is a cut off...

DurhamRed · 29/01/2015 20:10

Hi Pink my mw told me I could have the whooping cough vaccine up until I was 36/38 weeks. I'm now 33 weeks and I'm having the vaccine on Saturday (the only reason I'm having it is that I had whooping cough as a child).

Fondue42 · 29/01/2015 20:10

I had the whooping cough vaccine a couple of weeks back, I think my midwife said to get it between 28 and 32 weeks? Not sure if that is a cut off date, or just recommended in my area, or in case you go early? Sore arm and felt a bit pants for a couple of days afterwards. I had whooping cough as a child, but apparently that doesn't give the baby any immunity. This jab sees them through until the first round of jabs at 1-2 months. Personal choice whether to have the jab. I hate needles, but always get the recommended jabs when they are available.

So these braxton hicks are supposed to be like period pain? Don't think I've had any yet, does everyone get them?

m33r · 29/01/2015 20:13

I love this thread as it seems to ore-empt my every thought!

Anyway, at my 32 week appt I asked mw and she said book in ASSP. I'm going tomorrow but slightly worried that I left it too late as nhs website says 28-32 weeks but you can still it get later but it can be less effective... I'm going for it.

m33r · 29/01/2015 20:14

Cross post fondue Smile

pinkandstripey · 29/01/2015 21:13

My mw hasn't mentioned the wc jab, is why I'd forgotten about it til now! I moved area at 28 weeks pregnant so maybe she assumed I'd had it, I dunno.

What I'm assuming are bh, is when bump goes very tight and leaves me breathless :(

theonewiththenoisychild · 29/01/2015 22:22

hi ladies. well my roof was finished today and they cleared up their mess plus some of ours Grin and my landlord came to pay the boss and then gave me £50 "for the inconvenience" so i said the leak hadnt done any real damage to the decor so i couldnt accept it... he insisted and said buy something nice for the baby then. so ive brought baby elijah a few bits online from mothercare tonight Smile

m33r · 30/01/2015 08:04

Funny how the MWs don't seem that fussed. If I wasn't on MN all the time, I wouldn't have known and she wouldn't have mentioned it...

Ellizardo · 30/01/2015 08:45

Had WC vaccine and same as Fondue, bruised arm etc.
Just in now for glucose testing for gestational diabetes. Anyone else had that? Baby's belly top percentile in circumference, rest of him not! Hope all is fine.

Butterpuff · 30/01/2015 09:09

Glad your roof is finished theone, and how nice of your landlord. We have electricians in today then hopefully that is it for all day messy tradesmen for a while. We have some amazing friends and family who are coming over for a painting party on Saturday to try to get us strait before I finish work for maternity. I cant believe I only have 24 days till due date. Eeek. That travel system better hurry up and arrive Confused

I don't think I have had any Braxton hicks yet Fondu I am waiting but nothing feels like it could be. I am getting a lot of pain around my groin at the moment though. I think bump has travelled down and now I have a new round of stretching. Its particularly bad when I am walking anywhere.

pink I think there is a time beyond which getting the WC vaccine is a bit pointless as there is not enough time left for it to pass on any immunity to baby. It wont do any harm, but it will be less effective the later you leave it. At least that is what the nurse told me.

I wonder if the thread will get busy again next month once the babies start arriving, I know there are a few with late feb and early march dates that might not be as far off as we think now. Grin

ZylaB · 30/01/2015 09:29

If you're excited about babies coming, looks like mine will be with us in the next week or so! Am in hospital with pre eclampsia and they're going to induce me in a week's time (if everything holds up until then, if it doesn't she'll be here before!). Am 35 weeks today and we're aiming for the magic 36 weeks if we can. Fingers crossed!

m33r · 30/01/2015 09:32

Wow! zyla are you doing ok?

Lifeisabeach · 30/01/2015 10:02

Wow Zyla, how exciting! I hope the pre-eclampsia doesn't develop and that your little girl can stay in until 36 weeks. Lots of luck for the next few days.

I haven't had the WC vaccine yet, purely because I haven't got around to making an appointment yet. The MW told me about it at my 29 week appointment and I did intend to but things have been so crazy recently that it keeps slipping my mind.

I've written before about my mum being very ill with cancer - well things just keep getting worse and she now only has weeks left :( The doctor told me she probably won't still be here when the baby is born, which came as a shock, even though I knew she didn't have long. She's been in hospital for the past month but has asked to move to a nursing home close to where I live, and hopefully she'll be moving next week. I can't bear to think about what's to come too much, I'm trying to take one day at a time. Life is just so unfair sometimes though.

Anyway, otherwise I'm doing ok. Still trying to decide between home birth and MLU for the birth. My most annoying symptom is still the baby suddenly moving and pressing onto my bladder, meaning I need to wee NOW. Trying to enjoy these last few week being pregnant as this is most definitely the last time!

Butterpuff · 30/01/2015 10:05

Oh fingers very much crossed for you Zyla hope baby holds on until 36 weeks for you. I hope your not feeling too poorly. It does sound like you may have our first thread baby though. Good luck.

M27J5M · 30/01/2015 10:07

Oh Zyla looks like you'll be the 1st to go! Exciting stuff Smile you doing ok?
