marthahm · 05/10/2006 22:09

congratulations seona. fab news, let us know when you have a name. glad to hear you're ok despite the 2nd degree tear.

Gemmitygem · 05/10/2006 22:18

well done seona!

Well I've been having what I would call contractions all evening, every 10-15 minutes, like a strong period pain which peaks and then subsides.. FIL has been timing them. But don't know if they're really contractions or not as I'm a first timer. While I'm having them I have to stop what I'm doing but can still talk. DH is over in the UK, due to fly over for the weekend tomorrow evening (to Belgium where I am). So now wondering if it will all kick off in the night...trying to stay calm but very excited and nervous!!!!

Gemmitygem · 05/10/2006 22:18

surely it must mean real labour isn't more than a few days away?

marthahm · 05/10/2006 22:20

have just ordered a mattress protector after your experience seona!

Popsi · 05/10/2006 22:41

Congratulations Seona - and to all the rest of you who are getting some pains - I'm really jealous - at least something might be happening!DD has a lovely cold today and has been sneezing all over me so just waiting to catch it too!
I also have the annoying PIL problem - they live in Liverpool and will want to come and stay for a few days after the birth - don't really want them as they are a bit annoying and wind me up - and also are not at all helpful - they sit around expecting meals and cups of tea.

Gingeme · 05/10/2006 22:52

One of you clever lot needs to do another list so we can see whos had or having or nowhere nearing! The other lists are on the old thread .

nowanearlyNicemum · 06/10/2006 00:07

many many congratulations Seona - enjoy your little one!!

as you can see, I'm still here still having contractions. went to my choir practice for a couple of hours and they petered out but since I've been back home they've picked up again. Really frustrating - too painful to sleep but not painful enough to start heading towards the hospital. How long does this bit last??????

gemmitygem... are you still about???

have updated THE list. hope I haven't missed anyone out

right, am going to go and try and get some kip - it's 1:30am here and I haven't had much sleep recently thanks to dd's antics.
see you all in the morning x

Gemmitygem · 06/10/2006 02:51

hi anyone who's up..

I think I'm in labour, been having contx solidly since 4pm, every 10-15 mins, for the last 3 hours it's been every 8 minutes, and had a definite show at 11pm.. Ctx are getting more and more painful. I just can't wake the inlaws (it's 4am here) till at least 6, and don't want to wake DH (who is in London as opposed to here in Belgium) at this ungodly hour. Listening to radio helps, and I finally packed the hospital bag. Should try and rest but ctx hurt much more in the dark lying down!

Is anyone still up?

mamado · 06/10/2006 02:55

Sounds like the real thing gemmity - how exciting! Don't worry until they are much closer though - try and rest or have a bath until a more suitable hour for waking the in laws! Good luck and I hope dh arrives in time x

BENDYB · 06/10/2006 07:28

how exciting gemmitygem, hope everythings goin ok!
I'm jealous its not me! I've ordered a waterproof mattress protecter aswell!
hope every1s ok!

EmilyTurner · 06/10/2006 07:43

Congrats seona

Youngmum...I had a scan this week (am 36 weeks). The head is 34 cm which is ok but the tummy measurement is over, indicating big birth weight. They reckon it is 7lb 13 now. Last baby was 8 lb 6 at 37+ weeks. I am seeing the consultant on Monday. Meanwhile I am trying to do everything I can think of to get it to come early.

They are talking c-section but I won't agree to it until I've tried to push it out myself. Plus they could scan me next week and the measurements might be fine.

emzickle · 06/10/2006 08:40

Morning All!

Wow looks like lots of action last night, hope everything is going well.

I'm still here, no baby, no more contractions either.

Got a MW appt in a while. Im so desperate for my waters to go or some thing, so at least I will know that I'll be seeing my baby soon.

Question - I have an anterior placenta, and movements never seem to reach 10 per day whole way through PG, but last 3 days have been very slight and not very noticable, is this normal this late in PG?

Swizzler · 06/10/2006 09:21

Best of luck Gemmitygem: hope things are going well. NNNM: any further news?

Emzickle: I've noticed fewer movements, which I think is normal at this stage. If you're worried, ask the mw. She'll prob listen for the hearbeat at your appointment, but you could always go for a scan if necessary.

nicand2 · 06/10/2006 09:45

Had a Dr's apt yesterday and she couldn't get a loud heartbeat so she thinks the baby may have turned back to back. Has anyone else had this previously?

Now I'm worried that there was another reason for the quiet heartbeat so I'm doing a proper kick count today as I usually forget.

She also said that I wouldn't be induced until 42 weeks, i felt like crying as I had my heart set on +11 at the latest I'm sure the mw had told me this.

Thanks Dashingredhead for the spd advice I'm wondering if the babies position has made it more uncomfortable??

Congratulations to Seona and good luck to anyone who is labour at the moment!!

catgirl · 06/10/2006 10:04

congratulations Senoa - love the name Ewan - our ds was very nearly that and this one might be too - have a habit of changing minds at the last minute!

Good luck to those who may be in labour at the mo, and well done those who have the end in sight of DIY hell!

We are away for a long weekend after lunch, to a lovely farm in Suffolk - has a great playroom, indoor pool, you can feed the chickens and collect the eggs - and best of all - a home made victoria sponge cake is left in the cottage for your arrival!! So me and ds getting the train after I pick him up from nursery school and dh driving over after work... really looking forward to it - will be our last weekend away as a family of three! Well, I hope the baby doesn't make an appearance just yet - still a little bit early for me! Bet I am the only one to say that!

Gingeme - hope you are feeling better today - think of your lovely photo session tomorrow - have fun with it. She has responded to me and we hope to set something up soon - funny old world as she used to live near were I live now! Would love to 'do a demi', but as I am very white with saggy bits (ie complete opposite of that photo!) I doubt it will happen!

Have a lovely weekend one and all - look forward to catching up with all the news on Tuesday!

youngmum21 · 06/10/2006 10:16

morning ladies,

Wow loads of action last nite good luck!!!!
Seems like ages left till my lo will make an apperance am so jelous!!!

DogMum · 06/10/2006 10:35

Congratulations Seona. Hope Ewan is soon given a clean bill of health. And thanks for reminding me to get the mattress protector on!

Popsi, get your OH to tell them you'll be pleased to see them, but won't be up to house guests. Get him to give them numbers for local guest houses. I know they should find out themselves, but family politics might be easier if you meet them halfway. Failing that, don't answer the door!

Emzickle, I'm sure it's nothing to worry about, but if you're feeling fewer than 10 movements per day, phone your midwife or go to the hospital to get monitored. I've got an anterior placenta too, but the baby is big now so I can feel it more. If I haven't felt it for a while I try to lie down with a hand on my belly. Our babies are now better than viable, so it's well worth getting checked to be on the safe side.

It's all gone quiet from NNNM and GemmityGem - sounds promising...

Have a lovely weekend away Catgirl and enjoy your portrait Gingeme.

emzickle · 06/10/2006 10:57

Catgirl - where abouts in Suffolk? Oooh aaeeh you're in my territory!

emzickle · 06/10/2006 11:03

oh, at MW appt, booked in for a sweep next friday (13th) if nothing has happened by then, funnily enough she wanted to book me in for sweep on Wednesday, even though desperate for LO to arrive, its my MIL birthday on Thursday and the chances of having the baby that day are bad enough so post poning sweep til day after, I'd really hate for her to be born on that day!

3/5 engaged, measuring 37 weeks, BP 130/75 so all tickedy boo.

Hows everyone else?

Gemmitygem · 06/10/2006 11:08

hi ladies,

I'm back from the hospital, only 1cm dilated, seen and examined by a right b*tch of a doctor: I said 'you're really hurting me!' and she said 'well it's not my fault, I can't find your cervix, which side is it on (?!!)' (Um, who's the doctor here?) She had a manner more suited to a vet than a doctor. I even had to ask her to close the door to the busy corridor properly before she examined me..

So almost 24 hours of contractions every 8-10 minutes, and NOTHING to show for it! I'm gutted as couldn't sleep at all last night, as they are quite painful, but have to just wait. At least DH is arriving at 6pm which will cheer me up a bit. So all those without pains: you're lucky really, because maybe once you get pains at least they'll be doing something!

I'm still hoping I have days rather than weeks to go, though.. will try to have a nap and get things in perspective.

GRRR!

catgirl · 06/10/2006 11:08

emzickle - we are staying just outside Halesworth - lovely part of the world.

know what you mean about not wanting the baby to be born on certain dates - my due date is 31 Oct - I really really really don't want to deliver on 1 Nov - I work with a really irritating woman whose birthday is 1 Nov - petty I know, and if that is when the baby is born I shall of course be delighted, but still......

opps - sorry for posting twice.

Gemmitygem - sorry to hear of your bad experience, hope the next time you go into hospital it is more positive. At least your dh arrives tonight. Easier said than done, but try and take it easy today and sleep rest as much as you can - look forward to reading about any developments on Monday! Think paracetamol might be OK to take, might take the edge of the pain.

wuzzlefraggle · 06/10/2006 11:19

emzickle - snap, midwife said the babys head is 3/5 engaged too here lol. and according to dates im 37+3

gemmity - sorry to hear about the experience with the bitchy doc. some people can be right thoughtless tossers. anyways tho, sounds like your lo could well be making an entrance in the not too distant

congratulations sallyrosie and seona!!
