Hi all

yes it was lovely meeting some of you last Tuesday - I can't believe I am finally posting after all this time spying on this board - a bit of a voyeur, me!

Thanks for all the great advices, like putting a bin liner on the bed (Gingeme) for water leakage, and finding out that my baby in 3/5 engaged (Swizzler) - oops!

Have a fine day all - will keep you posted

nowanearlyNicemum · 05/10/2006 12:45

hi all, sorry to all of you suffering from false starts or false hopes. I know how you feel. I've been getting really strong pains for the last hour or so but they're not regular at all and I'm not holding out any hope!! am giving the flat a quick tidy up though because if the neighbours have to come in and look after dd I'll be very at the state of the place!!
dp back last night and dd went off without too much bother, albeit quite late. then she woke up screaming at 6am and I couldn't do a thing to settle her. don't even know if I have the strength to try and do battle for her nap today ... any advice from any of you with toddlers would be gratefully received????

Swizzler · 05/10/2006 12:53

Hi Agvinda: glad you managed to find the info on your notes! I've found my mw's to be variable: one is great and explains everything, the other just gets on with it and you have to drag information from her. Luckily I've only had to see her once (famous last words as I have an appointment this afternoon).

Great news about the builders Clon. I hope you have some serious lazing about time planned.

Emzickle: how are things going? Any further signs? at those already having contractions - nothing at all here apart from a few niggles and a really HEAVY baby.

Crib has now arrived and have rearranged bedroom so a) we can fit it in and b) the baby won't have books or clothes falling on its head. It's a lovely simple design - a wooden flding frame with a material sling on which you out a bit of wood to form a base and then a mattress. Good and sturdy (and quite big) but folds out of the way when not being used. So now we're pretty set...

whiffy · 05/10/2006 12:56

yay! hello agvinda and welcome. am still poking my nose in here though by rights should have shuttled off to the postnatel thread by now. Good luck with rest of pg.

getting the runs, by the way, emzickle, is a classic sign that labour may be about to begin. not that it happened in my case when I had a natural birth. oh no. my bowels waited till I was hoisted up in stirrups before they decided to do the business. well, if you're going to embarass yourself you may as well be spectacular about it...

Gemmitygem · 05/10/2006 12:58

emzickle, I've been reading up on pre labour and it says that in general diarrhoea/loose and frequent stools (yuk, sorry!) can be a sign of pre labour, even before the proper 'clear out'.

However, baby books also all say that proper cramps mean labour is not too far away: it's not BH, it's more like pre-labour. So nownearlyNice, Gingeme and emzickle, I think we can all feel optimistic that there's not TOO long to go!

I did my forced quick-march round the park this morning and did step ups on a step, and had a few more big cramps over lunch but nothing major. I definitely find just that breather in the park helps clear my head and feel more positive... recommended! Hope everyone is ok and as comfortable as possible..

Gemmitygem · 05/10/2006 13:01

swizzler: don't worry: your 'niggles' are probably my ''contractions' because I'm such a wimp! I don't think I'm going to get through this without some serious drugs

nowanearlyNicemum · 05/10/2006 13:15

sorry for tmi but I've had to dash to the loo twice since I last posted... could this be it???? please tell me to get a grip and wait until I'm at least slightly overdue before I get excited Was induced at 12 days overdue with dd!!

DashingRedhead · 05/10/2006 13:19

nicand2: the spd pain is right down in your groin - in the actual triangle of the pubis and yes it makes getting up in the night very difficult. I thought I was developing it but a top tip I received got rid of it largely: don't sit sideways with your legs up on the sofa! With me it pretty much faded away over a couple of days when I sat in an armchair with my hips higher than my knees (can still use a low footstool if you're suffering from swollen feet) and my back well supported.

HTH!

emzickle · 05/10/2006 14:13

had some lunch but nothing else to report... just going to have a cup of raspberry leaf tea, and a snooze. im so bored of all this now, i want to cuddle my baby so much...

nowanearlyNicemum · 05/10/2006 14:22

oh emzickle, you sound really fed up.
make the most of that nap time - that's what I'm DYING to do right now. instead i'm off out with dd for a walk - hoping that pushing her pushchair up the hill will make these contractions into something more meaningful...

EmilyTurner · 05/10/2006 15:08

Hi to everyone

Long time no see. Have been surviving the anaemia attack - sort of zapped me of energy for a bit. I've finally finished work. I am 36+4 now. I had a scan this week and they think the baby is at 7lb 13 already (last baby was 8lb 6 and came at 37+4). They are concerned about size so seeing consultant on Monday. They might induce me. I am not too worried about that as I would love the baby out now!

How is everyone else?

youngmum21 · 05/10/2006 15:24

sorry emily can i ask y they concerned?

Gingeme · 05/10/2006 15:48

Hello ladies, agvinda nice to see you plucked up the courage to finaly post.
Wehay clon no more builders. They kept to their word then?
sounds like things are finaly making a start for emzickle and nowanearlynicemum. Wow good luck ladies.
Ive just come back from the library and feel like c**p. Had a row with dh simply because he asked if I was ok and I just went off on one! Well what a stupid bloody question. My ds seems to be getting to me now too. The things I would normaly find sweet and endearing are just winding me up. Not his fault bless him.
Had a serious talk about a home birth with dh this morning and am seriously considering it. Makes sence if it happens in the early am and ds is fast asleep. Been looking for some cheap shower curtains to lay on the floor. Apart from old towels or sheets looks like thats pretty much all you need.
Anyway sorry for such a long post just needed to get that off my chest. Thanks ladies xxxx

agrimum · 05/10/2006 17:03

Seen consultant today at 38 wks as they have been concerned about size of baby throughout pregnancy (growth scan at 34 weeks estimated 6.5lb) - now though they don't seem too concerned at all. Don't want to induce me for fear of causing added intervention (forceps or emergency c-section) - so just got to play it by ear. EmilyT - I would be interested to know if they decide to induce you early.

Talking of the bowel movements - mine have been clearing themselves rather effectively every morning for the last 3 mornings - also been having major braxton hicks or that's what I assume them to be. No regularity to them though. an LO seems to be using the inside of my ribs to play the xylophone! Can't sit up straight have to lean to one side to relieve the pressure and that makes my back ache, good grief when will it come to an end???

nic1976 · 05/10/2006 17:36

Hi - I've been lurking around for the last couple of weeks.

Due on 15th Oct (first babe) so not long to go.

I'm also measuring pretty big - they think about 9lb but they won't induce before the due date as this can lead to more intervention and really there is no reason to unless it looks like the head won't for through the pelvis.

Having said that my consultant said there is an increased risk of shoulder dystocia which they will keep an eye on during labour and I've got to see the doc again the day after my due date (they prob won't let me go really over).

Feeling ok apart from that - knackered and can no longer get in my car so a bit stuck at home but only finished work a week ago so not too bored

BENDYB · 05/10/2006 18:29

hi every1, had a few funny pains in my stomach earlier, dunno if they were braxton hicks but stopped now!! Good 2 c things r startin 4 some of u, wish it was me! So fed up!

is the only way 2 know the weight of the baby by having a scan? Sorry if sound silly again but I really would like 2 know! How come some of u get scans now aswell? like 30something wks, Does it just depend on where u live or if they r concerned bout somethin? coz i've only had the 12 & 20 wk 1s. xx

Swizzler · 05/10/2006 19:09

Bendyb: I haven't had another scan either. I think it depends om where you ;ive. The only reason I would have another is if I go overdue and they think it necessary. So I have no idea how big this baby is, tho I suspect not small

Gingeme: hope you feel better after letting off steam. I'm sure your DH knows better than to take any rants personally at this stage! Sounds like a home birth might be a good alternative plan if your mw is supportive.

Mw appt this afternoon quick and easy as usual - I'm booked for an appointment at the hospital if I go 10 days over for a sweep. Really hope the baby will be here by then.

Good to hear from you Whiffy and that your DD is doing well.

Emzickle: is there anything you can do to take your mind off things? What about renting some films you want to see or going out for a meal? I've been taking lots of long baths while I still can

DogMum · 05/10/2006 19:51

Gingeme, you know waterbirth works for you and if they're not offering them at the hospital, homebirth looks like a good option. You might want to book it soon though. Hope you get what you want.

Agvinda, good to see you online at last and Nic1976 too.

It's exciting that so many of you are getting symptoms. I look forward to checking back in the morning for announcements!

wuzzlefraggle · 05/10/2006 20:22

hi all...not posted for a week (been feeling a little crappy and didnt want to keep bending your ears about it all the time)

MY OVEN HOB AND HOOD ARRIVED!!! finally dh can finish the kitchen on saturday woohoo!! lol

so, who else is feeling like they have been kicked in the crotch?? lol

Seona1973 · 05/10/2006 20:25

Sorry I havent been about for a few days but my waters broke at 4.30am on Sunday morning and on Sunday night at 9.47pm I gave birth to my beautiful baby boy who we are calling Ewan. He wasnt due until the 9th, so 8 days early - was still 7lb 13ozs so am quite glad he didnt grow for too much longer!

We didnt get out of hospital until Tuesday night as he has a faint heart murmur that had to get checked out - he will go for a follow up appointment in 6 weeks at the hospital to see if it has cleared up by itself or whether it needs further investigation (once again I had to stay in hospital while everyone else gave birth and left all around me - last time dd was jaundiced and had to get phototherapy and we were in for 5 days)

The birth was a bit longer and more painful than expected after the last time but ds was back to back and had to turn round to face the right direction before he could be born. I have another 2nd degree tear but this one didnt need stitching so that was good.

The birth was pretty much to plan re: pain relief and ds being delivered onto my chest for skin to skin contact - although it was a bit messy with vernix and blood and stuff (not for the faint hearted!!)

Anyway, better go as have left ds with dh while I had 5 minutes peace to catch up - hope you all have your lo's with you soon. Seona xx

p.s. we had a mattress protector on the bed and its just as well as my waters gushed all over the bed when I got up to go to the toilet - dh was a good soul and washed everything while I was in hospital so it saved me doing it when I got home - bless him.

BENDYB · 05/10/2006 20:44

wow congratulations seona!!!!! xxx

hi wuzz, glad it finally turned up! I was thinkin earlier that u hadn't been around 4 a while, thought u might have had ur lo aswell! lol!
