Hope this works and that this thread sees the arrival of lots of wonderful little babies!

Re stocking up on food, I did a massive internet shop at 37 weeks which cost a fortune (pizzas, soups, pasta etc) then the weeks went by and we've eaten it all already so we've been buying ready meals from M&S and waitrose - it's going to be a hard habit to break now!

Lots of cramps today but I've given up expecting anything to happen before Tuesday.

Hope everyone is having a relaxing weekend before the imminent arrivals.

agrimum · 21/10/2006 16:16

Agree with those getting fed up with friends and family ringing/texting to ask if there is any news. Don't they think we will let them know.

And can you believe it - my sister, the science teacher, asked me to hang my baby from a washing line and take a photo for her GCSE students - something to do with the reflexes of a new born baby - is she totally bonkers? Oh no, just make sure someone is underneath to catch it in case the theory doesn't quite work out. Good grief. That put me into a right paddy then, DH thought someone had died the way I was carrying on!

I can't believe that I am actually wishing I was in pain, was thinking about it, had 40 glorious weeks, no period pains etc and now actually wishing that I will have excruciating pain for several hours!!!! Obviously about to go over the edge.

Gingeme · 21/10/2006 17:48

Good evening ladies. Dont worry popsi and Dogsmum theres no sign of this little one appearing just yet. No pains, cramps or anything and he had his chance to come today at the baby show after all the walking I did but decided not to.
Was a lovely show. Lots and lots of georgious stuff. I could have spent a fortune. I dont think Ill have to buy any soap powder for a while thats for sure. They had a Persil,Fairy,Comfort,Huggies and Pampers display all giving away free goodies. Bought ds a brill cd. There was a lady dancing and singing to the little ones singing very groovy versions of kids songs and ds loved them so I bought a cd. Its brill and not at all tedious like some can be.
I also bought new ds to be some beautiful soft soft leather shoes. Made from safe dyed leather. Ones green with go on it and ones red with stop on it. Cant wait to put them on him! Loads of pg women there. All shapes and sizes and ages. Some made me feel quite small. Loads of midwives to chat to too. I asked for a few pointers on home birth. All very interesting.
Anyway time to put my fat feet up now. Dh is making sausage and mash for dinner. Yum yum cant wait Im starving.

nowanearlyNicemum · 21/10/2006 19:42

mmm, sausage and mash. Gingeme, you've made me homesick all of a sudden

girlygale1 · 21/10/2006 21:35

Hi everyone! Poor old dh - he tried everything, telling me how I need to fill up on the stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Needless to say I didn't fulfill my wifely duties and went to bed!!!!!! (there are just somethings that you really don't face consuming when you are about to drop!!!!!!) .
... he keeps making reference to it now! Wish I'd never read that to him!!! - Did put him off though when I was getting dressed this morning and paraded my large belly infront of him asking him if he wanted sex instead ... never seen him run so fast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .

Anyway - still fat and pregnant, braxton hicks have reduced now baby is laying back to back - hope this doesn't mean that she has decided it is far more comfortable staying put than coming out!!!

anyone up?
It's nearly 2am here and I'm doing the usual 'riding out the contractions' before they peter out and I can get some kip.
Have to go in for monitoring tomorrow morning - standard procedure on due date in France. (Am already 1 week overdue by english dates )
hope you're all either sleeping soundly or pushing another little one into this world

purpleluce · 22/10/2006 07:45

Hello there, purpleluce a newbie here on account of the fact that I just finished work and discovered mumsnet!

I am due on 29th Oct and actually found November stream first probably because you are all busy having babies! Anyway, took liberty of adding self onto list below, hope that is OK etiquette wise as I am on 2nd pregnancy and remember how lonely going overdue gets!

Gingem does the feeling feel like a grinding in your pelvis? If so, I get quite a lot of that and i think it is the head engaging. Unfortunately, not sure that means anything on subseq pregs as they can disengage too.

A week to go today and even though I am trying v hard to prepare myself for going over, there is still part of me desperate for it to kick off. No real twinges or any kinds of signs except BH. Off to sit on my ball a bit!

marthahm · 22/10/2006 08:22

hi purpluce, welcome.
still here dogsmum! i'm overdue by 10 days today. nothing happening at all, in fact i think i may even be going into reverse as less painful contractions at night now and baby still only 3/5ths engaged.
i went in to be monitored yesterday and everything fine. we heard a woman going through the last minute of labour which had both dh and me almost on the floor with nerves-v. raw sound. at least it was followed moments later by high pitched squealing from her new baby.
not looking forward to being induced tomorrow at all. can't understand why anyone would actually want to be induced. i wonder how tigerlion got on? i hope she now has her baby and it went ok.
i am going to show dh how to post on here so he can tell you how it all goes.
still in dispute over names, have come to the conclusion that we'll look at it and decide the name if it's a girl- i think this strategy could be our downfall and the poor thing will be prunella for life!
one thing i am looking forward to is being able to smug it for the rest of life when dh stubs his toe and can say for goodness sake, i've been through childbirth
hope you are all having restful sundays. am going to go and have a bath so i don't disturb dh's last ever lie in
sorry for long long post

Swizzler · 22/10/2006 10:47

Marthahm: enjoy your (hopefully) last pg day . Best of luck for tomorrow. Aren't other people due to be induced then as well? We could have a bumper crop of babies!

Gingeme: glad you enjoyed the baby show. I find the free samples of baby wipes v useful for mopping up sick etc. from furniture - baby strictly kept to cotton wool and water. He did a poo over DH while being changed this morning - how I laughed

nic1976 · 22/10/2006 11:42

Hi guys

Hope you are all well. Now a week overdue and properly fed up!

Had no signs but saw consultant on tuesday, midwife did a sweep which then set off 24 hours of contractions - 20 mins apart and then moving to 10 mins apart overnight. The midwife said my cervix was 'lovely!'. Then Wed night the contractions just stopped. Wed pm I had another scan when they said all is well with the baby but is measuring 9lb 9oz - give or take a pound!

Have yet another consultant appt and scan on tues and presume they will then give me a day for induction this week. Would much prefer to do it on my own but I appear to have a super glued baby.

nowanearlyNicemum · 22/10/2006 13:34

snap nicand2!! just back from my morning of monitoring (am now 1 week overdue too) but nothing doing apparently. Have to go back for another go on Tuesday if nothing's happened by then. Whatever happens they won't let me go past Thursday but I really, really, really don't want to be induced. The way things are going it could be likely though

nowanearlyNicemum · 22/10/2006 13:38

oops sorry, not nicand2, nic1976!!

EmilyTurner · 22/10/2006 14:43

Hello everyone

I've done a lot of lurking and not much posting because all seem to do is moan! I am 39 weeks tomorrow. Everyday I think is this the day. It's my second and I've had some familiar feelings, such as immense pressure and being unable to walk properly.

This time the BH as so strong. THis morning I was awake at 4am for two hours because they were so regular. I wondered if it was it but they stopped when I got up.

I had reiki today to try and make it come. Well, I've tried everything else. I want it to come early because they've indicated it is so big!

Hope everyone else is ok.

Gingeme · 22/10/2006 14:56

Snap Emily with everything youve just typed. Im due same date and I was having very strong period type pains from about 4am this morning for about 2 hours. Must have petered off though cause I fell back to sleep till 8 when ds woke up. Thought all the walking I did yesterday had helped but alas not.
No purpluce its not grinding I can feel. Besides babys head is engaged and mw said its likely to stay that way now. Its like a kind of rumbling/viibrating sensation.
My Dad texted me today about how I was and any sign of baby yet? Sent him one back asking him not to ask any more as he will be the first to know when its all happening. Well its bad enough being fat and fed up without people keep asking stupid questions.
LOL at your little man christening Daddy swizzler. Good boy. Hope it was a lovely mustard colour all down his nice beige trousers. Classic...... xxx

Hi all,
Just to let you know that our DD, Harriet Florence Rose was born in the early hours of Tuesday 17th, weighing 6lb 5oz.
She's absolutely beautiful and we're starting to get back to "normality" today - hence I am back on mumsnet!
Congrats to all who've had their LO's in the last week - haven't had a chance to catch up on the whole thread yet!

Gingeme · 22/10/2006 17:50

Congratulations Luboo. What an excelent weight and such grand names too. Hope you are well and baby is doing fine. xxx

BENDYB · 22/10/2006 19:09

congratulations luboo, hope every1 else is ok.

purpleluce · 22/10/2006 19:50

Congrats to new mums and commiserations to those who are overdue. was week over with dd1 and I swear it was longest week of my life, had convinced self she was coming early.

well gingem - period type pains sound more hopeful than grinding so I think I may resign myself to bringing up rear (only fair as newbie? - good job I have posted on Nov too!). Out of interest did your others come on time - have you had any pattern with your others?

Did anyone have experience of just hitting labour without any "warning signs" out there?

Gingeme · 22/10/2006 20:11

purpluce no all my labours were totaly different. First one was 10 days late and was a long and hard labour. The second was born on the day he was due. Only had gas and air with him and was about 8 hours long and my third was 3 days early and I had him in water again with gas and air. This time Im going to have a home birth and if Im brave enough no pain relief but my mw said shell bring along some gas and air anyway just in case. When I had the period type pains this morning at 4 this is how ds3 started. The pains gradualy got stromger and stronger till about 6am when I called my mw and she came out examined me and told me to go to hospital about 7am. Walked around the ward for about an hour, got in the pool as soon as I was 6 cm dialated and ds was born at 12.20 just in time for lunch.
Ive been getting period type pains on and off today too but not getting my hopes up at all.The only pattern between them is theyre all boys he he. x
