Hope this works and that this thread sees the arrival of lots of wonderful little babies!

We'll soon have more babies than pregnant ladies! Well done to all the new LOs (and their mothers too).

I am being induced tomorrow and my sOL who stayed last night has got me really worried saying that I should not be induced and should let the baby come naturally. She said that I could potentially be waiting for the induction to work over 4 days and that they will have me lying down hooked up to upteen different monitors and even then I will probably end up with a C section.

The thing is I have tried everything in the book (pineappple, curries, chorophyllum 200cc, raspberry leaf tablets, reflexology etc) and NOTHING has worked so surely the baby needs a bit of help coming out as it looks as if it had its way it would stay in there forever.

What experiences have you second/ third etc timers had of induction? I am 11 days' overdue and really uncomfortable and have had show and many BHs and would love the baby to come out sooner rather than later but am I taking a huge risk in being induced?

Got through two packs of Jelly babies yesterday. Possibly not the most appropriate of things to be eating at the moment!

Envious of you lot going to the Baby Show tomorrow. Being induced just up the road so may well go for a visit if they release me from hospital for a few hours!

Good luck to anyone going into labour!

Good luck for tomorrow Tigerlion . No direct experience, but my sister was induced with her first and it was all pretty straightforward (2nd stage 3 hours) - the only thing she didn't like was being confned to bed as she had an epidural. She wet into labou spontaneously the day before she was going to be induced with no. 2.

nicand2 · 20/10/2006 09:56

Tigerlion - I have all the same worries about being induced, especially as I'm now convinced my scan dates were wrong and today is in fact my due date. I'm booked in for Tuesday but I'm worried in case the baby just isn't ready.

i think the main reason I don't like the idea of being induced is that it seems to take longer, however I have heard many stories of 2nd timers being induced and the whole thing only lasting a few hours. Here's hoping!!!

Good Luck for tomorrow.

marthahm · 20/10/2006 10:18

tigerlion, am with you and nicand2 re induction worries. however, i really trust my consultant, he's very anti intervention and was one of the first people to get enthusiastic about water birth. so when he said induction on monday i went with it even if sad (and desperate for everything to happen first). even so, have read the endless pg books clogging up our house. from what i've read, if they manage to get you going with the prostaglandin gel it doesn't change much from a normal birth. don't know about your hospital, but i get up to 4 goes with the gel with 6 hours in between. if that doesn't work then they break the waters, and if that doesn't work then the oxytocin drip. once the drip is in then you have to be fully wired up and monitored i think but not before that. they said they'd just monitor me for the first hour after every gel administration and then i'd be free to wander round hospital and local area.
apparently if you've had a show, the baby's head is more than 2/5 engaged, and the cervix is soft they think there's a good chance with the gel.
i am going to try and spend today trying to re-focus on being calm again, was fine until all talk of induction. maybe will read that thread again that talks about positive birth stories.
in the meantime bring on the jellybabies!
i will be thinking of you tomorrow.

clon · 20/10/2006 10:19

Congatulations to mamado and good luck Tigerlion and martha for imminient arrivals.

It's my due date today and absolutely no sign of my lo taking up the dive position.

I'm already getting sick of family and friends ringing with the 'anything happening' questions so if I go really overdue I can imagine getting really crabby oops!

Had a bad night sleep last night so think I may return to bed.

DogMum · 20/10/2006 10:24

Congratulations Mamado and well done. Glad you got away from the hospital so quickly - so it is possible

Marthahm, ask your curry house which is the hottest they do and ask them to make it hotter. If you have one you're used to, it won't make any difference. I might try it in a week, in preference to sex. (Has anyone else read that 'swallowing' is more effective? I'm definitely going for the curry approach.)

Tigerlion, don't worry too much about what other people say as long as you're happy it's the right time for the induction. There is a higher intervention rate from indiction, but that doesn't mean you'll end up having them. Placenta's don't last forever either, so I'd question your medical staff before postponing an advised induction. Also, I think you can prop yourself upright while you're connected to the monitor and if all is well, even ask to move around for a few minutes every so often. Fingers crossed for you.

wuzzlefraggle · 20/10/2006 10:37

clon, im with you on the annoyance of family members asking if anything has happened. i know its only because they care, but grrrr! lol

a part of me wouldnt actually mind if the baby didnt come untill after halloween. i hate halloween and dont particularly want a newborn disturbed by oiks knocking on my door for money lol, i swear that ive turned into one of the old gits. watch, now ive said that, its sods law that i'll go into labour in the next few days lol.

tigerlion - all the best with the induction tomorrow. try not to let what other people say worry you. everybody is different

hope that every1 is ok

Justers · 20/10/2006 10:45

Hi everyone! I haven't posted for ages but great to catch up with all the exciting news of your new arrivals. I'm now a week overdue and also booked in for induction on monday. I've had 4 sweeps which obviously hasn't helped so looks like my water birth is out the window now. I understand how you feel Tigerlion, nicand2 and marthahm about the conflicting stories regerding induction - I'm crapping myself!!I love all the names, Bryn was a name I've had on the top of my list for some time but for some reason i just can't decide about names now and panicking that this baby will be called 'it' for days (when it eventually makes an appearance).

nicand2 · 20/10/2006 11:35

I have also read that if you have any kind of fears that this can delay labour. With me I think it is still the worry of childcare for DS. My nan is deteriorating really quickly, she has been in a home this week to give my mum some respite but she comes home today until they can find a permanant place. She can't be left at all because she keeps wandering outside and although my mum has assured me she will be available at all times I think I've still let myself get worked up by it. DH has assured me he will make sure DS is safe and looked after so I'm trying to put it into perspective.

I'm off to scrub the kitchen floor now in the hope that it will get something going. I have been getting strong BH's at night and I think a 'gradual show' if that makes sense so I'm hoping things will be ready to go by Tuesday.

majormoo · 20/10/2006 11:37

tigerlion and others-i was induced with dd and the whole labour was over within 3 hours. it was a shock that the contractions started getting strong very quickly, but i did not need lots of intervention. have spoken to lots of women who also had quick inductions. only needed gas and air for pain relief. good luck-hope it goes well.

re the show-mine came throughout the day on monday whenever i went to the loo-blood streaked mucus stuff in my case.

this baby never stops feeding-aaaah.

Popsi · 20/10/2006 13:42

Gingeme - funny you should say - I've just got back from taking DD swimming and in the pool there were some funny rumblings - very low down. I thought maybe baby is moving down a bit? Who knows. Also the heartburn is easing off slightly - it's not waking me at night anymore so maybe baby is moving down.

Gingeme · 20/10/2006 13:48

Oh thank goodness Im not the only one feeling this. I get the same feeling just before Im due on too. Getting it quite alot today too. OOh wonder what it means. Ive still got 10 days to go but you never know. Keep me posted Popsi if you feel it anymore.

mamado · 20/10/2006 14:23

Hope all of these signs of the little ones arriving amount to something. Its funny because at the end of pregnancy, especially if overdue you feel like you have been/will be pregnant forever, then your little one arrives and you feel like being pregnant was a lifetime ago!

Also, due to general negative responses baby mamado is now called Sofia [our second choice] with Jaya relegated to second name!

Oh and my top labour tip is to take a pillow, I couldn't have survived without mine for leaning on/kneeling on during labour, and resting against after

nowanearlyNicemum · 20/10/2006 14:56

congratulations Mamado, shame you feel you had to change your little girl's name though. Sofia is lovely nonetheless Sounds like your labour was pretty quick - how are you recovering?

good luck for tomorrow Tigerlion. You sound like you and your body are ready for induction so who knows what the right course of action is for you. There comes a point when you have to put some faith in the medical team's judgement - as well as following your insticts at all times. Sounds like this might be it

I'm feeling really fed up today. I didn't feel like I slept particularly badly last night but today I've just been exhausted. I'm like a zombie. There are loads of things I need to do but I just can't find the energy. And to top it all, dd is being a little terror again today - although she's asleep now so maybe she'll be sweetness and light when she wakes up...can always live in hope.

nicand2 · 20/10/2006 14:59

Just been looking at the weights of the babies born so far and was wondering who would have the biggest baby, with the exception of sallyrosie the babies born have all been smaller than my first so I've really scared myself now that it might be me!! Don't know why I do this, yes too much time on my hands and yes getting stuck for ideas of things to pass the time now.

clon · 20/10/2006 15:35

Nicemum, I'm really fed up today too, haven't felt like this for ages, maybe because today is my due date and nothing happening. You live with this date for months and even though is not that accurate it is disappointing for it to pass so uneventfully!

I'm so tired too, can't be bothered to do anything so I'll end my whinge here!

majormoo · 20/10/2006 16:52

updated the stats now Milo has a name.
Mamado, Sofia is a lovely name too, and at least you are still keeping Jaya as a middle name.

Swizzler · 20/10/2006 18:32

Hope everyone has a relaxing weekend - esp those due to be induced on Monday. Hope to be reading some more birth announcements soon. Can also assure you that once your LOs are here pg will seem a long way away . Look after yourselves and get as much rest as you can.

girlygale1 · 20/10/2006 20:04

lol dogmum - read dh the bit about swallowing - he has now been on and on and on about me doing it and how beneficially it is for me and the labour ... I'm a korma girl so the curry option won't work!!!!!!!!! he is going out to play footy tonight and should be back about 10.30 ish so keeps on about making it a date at 11!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... he has 2 hopes!!!!!

I know of a few people that were induced and they had very quick straight forward labours - no intervention at all, in fact one lady, 2 of her 3 labours lasted max 3 hours!!!!!!! (her second was longer and that is because he was ... back to back - mmm how much am I looking forward to my labour!)

Please don't worry too much, I know it is far easier to say than do, but you need to focus on the birth, and breathing your way through etc, than worrying, it'll only make it worse for you. I am worried about how much pain this one will be being back to back, but I know I'm just going to have to get on with it - and like my brother said (bless him) it has to come out one way or another!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck though - am thinking of you xx

(and will make sure I'm asleep at 11!!!!!!)

taffy101 · 20/10/2006 21:15

Has everyone gone to bed already - no posts for over an hour and there's nothing good on TV!! BTW hottest curry ever is a phaal - not on menu have to ask specifically for it. Never tried it myself but know a bloke who thinks he's very masculine for having such hot curries. I have seen him eating it and it is FULL of chillie seeds. Sounds foul but depends how desperate you are!!

Popsi · 20/10/2006 22:48

I'm still up - am trying to convince DH to paint my toenails for me!
Gingeme - little twinges all day but don't think anything is happening - would be too much to hope for to be 10 days early!

KATGOD · 21/10/2006 05:35

hello all, have not posted for sges, but still here, now overdue. Unchartered territory for me as DS was early, but no sign of This one so far. Spent the afternoon wired up to a monitor as I was showing symptoms of choliosis (spelling? some sort of liver thing) but seems to be ok - plenty of movement as soon as hooked up to the machine, even tho feel very little usually. So I have been up 2 hours with heartburn/reflux, which I thought had gone away. That may be the downside to the curry appraoch to bringing on labour. Hope DH ready for a full day of childcare. Hope that later today will be the time, because a)it's my Dad's birthday today; and b) have run out of food and soooooo do not want to go to Sainsbury's. I treat each day as the last day, and have freezer stocked with post baby food, so there's nothing actually to eat now in the fridge!!! Plus am bored with keeping house tidy for pending arrival of MiL (to look after DS). Hope all goes well for everyone. Whinge over>

marthahm · 21/10/2006 08:39

katgod that's so funny, i'm in exactly the same position, hoping to go into labour so i don't have to do any cooking, meanwhile the freezer door will hardly close with all the fish pie, stew etc.
i had a vindaloo yesterday. dh thought it was great entertainment watching my face turn as red as my hair. the only result seems to be a sore tummy and one rigid all night long b h contraction not what i had in mind.
good luck today tigerlion. hope it goes well.
i have to go in later today to monitor the baby's heart beat and amniotic fluid level today for a bit. hope will all be ok so we can come home and get back to the serious business of eating curry and walking for britain (don't think i have the energy for any more sex or 7 pineapples although getting desperate enough to try everything)
hope your dd is on better form today nnnm

Justers · 21/10/2006 11:10

Still here as well. Good luck for today Tigerlion. I thought about cooking and freezing food for after birth then I just thought sod it, other people can cook me things- wishful thinking on my part probably. Acccording to everyone I've met you don't get time to eat anyway when you have a newborn so that should help the post-pregnancy diet.

DogMum · 21/10/2006 11:37

Wuzzle, pmsl at your halloween grumpiness - I thought I was the only person grumpy about halloween. Trick or treating would have been construed as begging in my day. (I know I'm no fun.) DP and I are turning into our parents already. Watching telly last night, we caught ourselves commenting on the general appearance and amount of hair products used by young men these days. We've really got a shock coming to us over the next 18 years. (Actually watching telly on a Friday night instead of going out is probably parent-like too.)

Hope you and dh had a good night, girlygale

Are you still here, Marthahm? I keep expecting you to go missing for a day or two. And Mrs. Gingeme, you can cross your legs missy - it's not your turn.

Thanks for the reassurance on induction, girlygale and majormoo. I'm sure it must be on everyone's mind at the moment, whether it's Monday or later.
