My scan is 10th December.

Cherrylips that midwife sounds awful! Fingers crossed that as she was a stand-in you won't have to see her again. Angry

We told DP's mum and sister on Wednesday; his sister was pretty much hysterical with excitement - had to gently remind her that it wasn't her who was having the baby. Confused It did make me really excited (and impatient) to tell my family - we're travelling down south this afternoon but won't be sharing the news until tomorrow evening, (when my brother is also around). Eeekk!

Hidingthefear · 07/11/2014 11:07

hmm maybe a cat net is worth looking into, even if we don't need one. if we shut the bedroom door the cat just headbutts it which wakes DH up. The dog sleeps downstairs in her crate and doesn't make a peep, even when the fireworks are going off. Will just have to see how they both react to a baby as neither of them have never experienced one (although neither have I!!!!)

after having the Merina coil for 4 years (and before that the injection) I haven't actually had a period for about 6 years or so. So i was pretty glad (and quite surprised) that I only had to endure one visit from mother nature and got caught straight away. so not sure I can pin point ovulation.

i'm considering having a "revealing party" instead of a baby shower. but not made my mind up yet

cinnamongreyhound · 07/11/2014 11:55

Oooo what's a revealing party?

LadyNovember · 07/11/2014 12:19

I'm having a baby boy Grin

Hidingthefear · 07/11/2014 12:23

cinnamon it's where you go for your scan and ask the sonographer to write down the sex and pop it in an envelope. then i'm going to give it to my best friend and ask her to look but not tell anyone. she then orders (or bakes) a cake with white icing and either blue sponge for a boy or pink sponge for a girl and when you cut it open at the shower everyone get's to see at once.
I'm still trying to convince hubby as he is adamant he doesn't want to find out but I'm really feeling like i need to prepare myself mentally. obviously i don't mind eitherway but I think I should get to use the "im the one that's pregnant so i get my own way" card on this one.

oo yay LadyNovember!! I think that's our first one in here!!

FreedomHuntress · 07/11/2014 12:30

My 20-week scan is on December 3rd, I'll be 19+2. We are off later that day (all being well) for a week to do Xmassy stuff down south (taking DS to Peppa Pig World, Hyde Park Winder Wonderland etc - can't wait!), seeing some friends, so I wanted the scan beforehand, so if it's good news, we'll tell people when we see them.
I'm not doing a gender reveal til she arrives, not telling anyone names or anything.

15+4

FreedomHuntress · 07/11/2014 12:46

Cross-posts! Wow, a boy - congratulations, LadyNovember!

How do the smarties stay separate and not melt LadyNovember? It's cool though. And yay for the first boy, congratulations boys are fab!!!!

Never heard of it Hidingthefear but cool idea, except I'd definitely want to know beforehand! Dh wanted to know with ds1 and sonographer offered to write to down in an envelope for him but I couldn't imagine him knowing and me not!

cinnamongreyhound · 07/11/2014 13:01

Sorry x-post Mel0Drama! Welcome and congrats on your boy but must be quite early to tell? I'm due 6th April and 18 weeks so you must be 15? Not that I'm an expert at all on what you can and can't see!

Lauren82000 · 07/11/2014 13:02

I'm keeping my names well away from the judgmental ears of people I know. I remember banding about names at work ages ago when the conversation turned that way. (Before I was pregnant) and the lady I work with pulled her face at both of my girl names but I'm still drawn to both of them, shame they wouldn't go together for a first and middle name. They are both linked to DDs name Ophelia, one of them is another character in hamlet and my great great grandmothers name (Gertrude) and the other is a character from the author whose daughter I stole the name from. (Matilda) I like the shortened names from both of them (Gertie/Trudy and Tilly. We call DD Phe so we do like names that can be shortened)

FreedomHuntress · 07/11/2014 13:04

Hi, and welcome, Mel. Some of us May well (ha, see what I did there!) end up in May anyway - I'm due 27th, and DS was five days late.

15 year gap - wow!

londonlivvy · 07/11/2014 13:04

argh. I like BOTH coats... how to decide? warm or waterproof?

Lauren82000 · 07/11/2014 13:05

Oh and congrats Lady on being the first with a boy. Your making me want to know what we've got cooking. I'll have to start wearing DH down so I can find out.

LadyNovember · 07/11/2014 13:07

You put the smarties in after the cake has cooled Cake

cinnamongreyhound · 07/11/2014 13:20

Ah I see two layers and then put together, doh!!!

hello everyone!
congrats on your boy ladynovember!!:)
I'm getting so nervous my scan is a week from today!

RiverRocks · 07/11/2014 14:05

Afternoon ladies,

Had my scan this morning, and we're having a boy. DP was a bit surprised as he thought it would be a girl. I was surprised, as I've still not got my head around the fact we're actually having a baby Grin

The sonographer was lovely; she spent about half an hour looking at his heart and his spine etc, pointing everything out. He was sucking his thumb, and was a proper wriggler.

We got a disc with some images, but I've had to come to work so looking forward to getting home tonight and putting the disc on.

londonlivvy · 07/11/2014 14:11

Squatting, yes, I do walk a fair bit, but also have a fair bit of standing in the playpark chatting whilst dd plays. Which can get chilly. I think more likelihood of rain than extreme cold in the uk. but tempted to keep both as such a bargain and we are going to the Alps for New Year (was supposed to be ski trip but not sure now given I'll be 26 weeks).

Exciting about all this news on boys and girls. We have three weeks left. I'm dying to find out. Kinda want a boy for DH but a girl would be simpler in some ways. Plus more chance of them playing together?
