Do you believe in the nub theory Linda? I don't personally, but your lo's nub is nice and clear... In my opinion it's as good as a guess though!

daholster · 22/09/2014 16:54

And thank you everyone for all your kind wishes, they help Thanks

The nub is where a tail would be. It looks like a little line. That one looks pretty in line with the spine to me... But then I've thought the same for pics of both sexes so I'm rubbish!!!

daholster · 22/09/2014 17:24

Just looked up skull theory. My skull and nub theory guesses match!

daholster · 22/09/2014 17:25

Note the word guesses...!

Lindalove · 22/09/2014 17:34

Nub? What's a nub? And what's the theory?

I have to say I think any theories about guessing sex are generally rubbish! Best to wait until it becomes obvious....

daholster · 22/09/2014 17:53

The nub is the little line at the bum where a tail might be. The theory goes that if it is in line with the spine it's a girl, if it points up away from the spine 45 degrees or more it's a boy. There are various scans and forums on the internet which is where I had a go and found I think they mostly all look like girls!!! I'm perhaps not very good at it... But like I said I think it's an old wives tale, personally. It's fun to guess though! I agree, 20 week scan is best!

LadyNovember · 22/09/2014 18:13

Congrats on your scan Linda, lovely picture! Hoping for equally as good news tomorrow #scanxious

Hidingthefear · 22/09/2014 18:51

Linda they may also not tell you because they can get it wrong. My friend at work was told she was having a boy so expect their shock when he popped out and was a she! luckily most of the stores she'd bought stuff from found it a funny story so exchanged her baby blues for baby pinks haha
Apparently when my mum was pregnant they didn't even give the option to know the sex at the scan at the hospitals near us as people were aborting girls. that was 1989 though so a lot's changed since then.

what is an NIPT by the way?

mswibble · 22/09/2014 18:54

Wow Lindalove! What a brilliant scan pic!

daholster so sorry for your loss but im so happy that you were able to share your news first and celebrate together.

Ive got another scan tomorrow, I cant shake off my feelings of doom and gloom so im willing to pay for reassurance! I can feel you rolling your eyes, I know its ridiculous! Im off to Moscow for a week on Thursday so thats another reason why I want to see everything again. It will help me enjoy myself if I know everything it still ok. And if not ... well I'd rather know. We have lost so many fellow excited ladies on this thread, and that 3% chance of something going wrong is really getting to me. Such a pessimist! Im not feeling as sick as I was before so that makes me nervous too, though I could just be managing it better I suppose.

Will we ever feel ready to leave the worry sofa?!

9+3

Lindalove · 22/09/2014 19:01

I'm not on the worry sofa. I've been on the pragmatic caution sofa but I have moved off it and am now on the hopeful confidence sofa. It comes with a glass of wine once a week after 12 weeks of effing limbo

LadyNovember · 22/09/2014 19:05

I hear ya mswibble...just spent half an hour Googling mmc stats. Blush I am so so scared for tomorrow. I hate the unknown! Sad

RiverRocks · 22/09/2014 19:06

Think we're here for life now, mswibble.

Linda what a lovely picture; the first thing the sonographer pointed out on mine was its nose, I was panicking, but she said it is normal sized Grin. Love that baby is giving you a wave!

13+4

mswibble · 22/09/2014 19:06

I hope to be joining you in a few weeks lindalove , save me a seat!

Hidingthefear · 22/09/2014 19:07

good luck for tomorrow Ladynovember let us know how it goes.

daholster I read somewhere that there was a study done on mothers intuition and it was something like women who had a strong feeling what sex it was were right 76-86% percent of the time. (although i gues you have a 50/50 chance anyway haha)
I think i'll wait until he/she pops out, my DH says he doesn't like plot spoilers, where as i'm the kinda of person that reads the last page of a book first :/

daholster · 22/09/2014 19:12

To be honest I'm not too bothered about knowing any earlier than 20 weeks, it makes no difference, I just want it to be ok! Interesting about those intuition stats though. I convinced myself my dd was a boy - I was more nervous about bringing up a boy for some reason, not now though - and was very surprised when I looked and found girl bits!!! We had chosen not to find out, but we are hoping to this time.

thanks Misty414 so many abbreviations !!

cinnamongreyhound · 22/09/2014 19:42

I'm doing much better than I did with ds2 was a hideous nervous wreck and drove Dh mad! I'm looking forward to getting excited and then not having to squash it just in case. Plus I REALLY want to tell me boys!

I had no idea with my two so obviously have no intuition! My mums convinced it's a girl as I've been less sick but I think that's because she really wants it to be a girl!

Lovely scan pic Linda! Good luck to everyone else with scans this week, mine is Friday so exciting to see the flood of scans really starting!

roastpots how long did you have to wait for the results of your NT to come through? MW told me at booking appt that sonographer will not tell me measurement at scan and what risk that indicates alone, I will have to wait for bloods to come back too.

daholster so sorry for your sad loss but a nice way to say goodbye x

daholster · 22/09/2014 23:46

Thank you everyone. I've just had a big lift, I found the little one on the Doppler! There were lots of loud wriggling type noises, so I just left it there and moved the probe in the same spot. It took a lot of patience but I got 5 very happy and exciting seconds of 157bpm. So happy! I hope it stays! Will go to bed with a proper smile Smile

daholster · 22/09/2014 23:47

Oh, and for anyone interested that was at 10+3. Can't feel my uterus though, I think it must be squidgier this time round and I have a few extra layers of fat... Grin

Nunkie · 23/09/2014 08:22

Aw, daholster what a lovely exit for your nan! It brought a tear to my eye Thanks
And congrats on the heartbeat sleuthing!

Great scan Lindalove!

And hey everyone, don't worry about feeling less vommy! Mine definitely seems to be coming in shorter waves now, and I think that is quite normal around this time (if you're lucky enough not to feel completely sick throughout)

Desperately hoping to be joining you all on the Happy Scan Results Sofa by the weekend.
