Right. I have 4 outstanding friend requests for Jan Babies - if you're still waiting to join (sorry Blush ) please can you FB message Jan Babies so I know who you are and then I will add you! The people who I've not confirmed yet have first names beginning with K, C, F and N if that helps at all!

Too soon to ask what people are doing (using) as hospital bag?

I remember feeling like we had hundreds of bags last time - so really want to reign it in this time.

Thinking big sports bag and changing bag - and if I stay in then DP can bring a second bag up with extras in it to save having too much crap at the start?

Anyone else thought/thinking of this yet?

only 27+3, but want it done so its done if you see what I mean!!
:)

cheshirem2b · 08/10/2014 12:46

sleep I have no idea really what we will do... I have a big pink weekend bag thing that I think I will use for mine and baby's stuff and DH can take a rucksack of stuff for him and food for us in that as well. That's the plan although I haven't thought about what needs to go in the bags! eek!

sleepisforthetired · 08/10/2014 12:59

I have a list as long as my arm (thank you mumsnet) - but planning on doing a "logial walk through" - ie no sharp objects as last time wanted to murder DP, drinks bottle + squash as they provide water (reduce weight to be carried about), toothbrush + paste. pointless of one without the other etc

I am doing a "wishful thinking bag" which is for in and out job, and a second bag if in for 3 days (c/s)

I am planning a c/s (still to be agreed with consultant) but then the extra pj's etc seems pointless until actually in theatre as would be elective (hopefully) means I could get bumped if emergency comes up so don't really want to be dancing around anything.

Best tip I have is flip flops if staying overnight/taking a shower there and put baby clothes in sets in food bags (with weight/size written on) - that way if your partner is a big a fool as mine can be you can say "get me a bag of baby clothes" - rather than wait for partner to workout what a vest is/babygrow/which hat goes with that etc!!

Hoping as second time round DP is a bit better clued up - but after 8 years almost I am not holding out much hope!!

KateTheHuman · 08/10/2014 13:31

I haven't even started thinking about hospital bags yet! Eek!

sleepisforthetired · 08/10/2014 14:06

Kate - loads of time for us all yet - even the late December ladies, but I like to pack, and unpack, check, repack, unpack - double check repate a few times etc - even when it is just an overnight stay!!

Last time, I was so certain I would go late, when waters went at 37+5, my bag was on the spare bed, with everything lovingly folded next to the damn thing - I refuse to make that mistake again!!

I am a bit funny about germs (despite so many flaws in my domestic abilities) - so want to buy a new bag so I know it is clean (yes, accept this isn't rational!) - so wondered what size people had thought of.

I might do Texas (Go large or go home!!) but this runs the risk of filling any space with crap...

cheshirem2b · 08/10/2014 14:16

I love the idea of sets of baby clothes in food bags - that's a great idea! I might just have to do that - DH genuinely won't have a clue. Thanks for the tip!
The bag I intend to use is a weekend holdall style bag - it's classed as cabin luggage I think - hoping that will be big enough for me & baby!
I have decided I will sort my bag at the beginning of December when I am 36/37 weeks - just in case!

sleepisforthetired · 08/10/2014 15:25

I started packing from about 34 I think with 1st. This just meant I had everything in one room and a list of "missing" bits to grab when needed.

Some nights bag was packed, others on the spare bed around the bag!

So much never came out the bag at hospital from memory, whilst other things needed bringing in when DP visited the next day (c/s so in for 2 nights)

I totally plan on having a bag packed this time properly by week 30 as terrified going early again so want to remove as much potential stress/anxiety as life allows!

Hospital is just up the road from 24 hr Tesco and Asda should it be needed (watch me deliver 5pm on a Sunday now so the shops are shut!)

natharley11 · 08/10/2014 16:26

im having planned cs so hoping to be packed about 32 weeks just in case. my friend advised an extra bag packed at home so dp know what to bring.

think my crazy cleaning bug may kick in before then and end up washing all clothing first x

sleepisforthetired · 08/10/2014 17:29

I am going to be washing everything anyway (baby wise) then doing the separate bags of clothes. Planning only to pack myself pj's and something to leave hospital in. I know from last time how I felt better after a shower, but wearing clothes was to much. If having a c/s - I only plan to wear pj's for at least a week - potentially wearing clothes to come home - but that's it!

natharley11 · 08/10/2014 20:45

last time I packed way too much hoping to avoid that this time x

KateTheHuman · 09/10/2014 08:27

Good morning all! 28 weeks today. Yay! Third trimester! Argh! Just sat waiting for my first blood test for GTT while my stomach digests itself.

Went to the mothercare event last night. Good news is the Pioneer fits in my boot. Bad news is it's out of stock so can't order it. Gutted. May not be able to get the 10% off then. Sad

28+0

blizy · 09/10/2014 08:37

Kate, was the mothercare event worth while? Mines is tonight but not sure if I will go as Thursdays usually wipe me out, I have 3 mindees under 3 all day and they are hard work!

sleepisforthetired · 09/10/2014 08:46

Kate When you think of the 10% value - how much is that worth in ££?

If its (as example) £10, this is a Chinese takeaway in my house - so ok to miss out on discount to get what I really want. If its £100 then this is a "big shop" so a lot harder to justify where I can make up the difference.

Had a really quick google - £50 = less vouchers from one of the sites (there will be some somewhere) and spending £5 less per week between now and Christmas (well actually the week before Christmas - as Xmas eve in 11 weeks!).

If your heart is set on it I know I would be disappointed with anything else at this stage - so I say hold out/look elsewhere and get the one you want and just make small changes elsewhere to justify not using the 10% :)

KateTheHuman · 09/10/2014 09:34

Well with the car seat and isofix base we were gonna save about £80.

The mothercare event didn't seem that well organised but there were talks on car seats, pushchairs, sleep safety, breast pumps, and toys. It's good if you want your 10% off voucher. Runs out on the 26th October. Goody bag had a vest, bar of galaxy, bottle of schloer, and lots of leaflets. So I'd say if you're not bothered about the 10% don't bother. Wink

KateTheHuman · 09/10/2014 09:36

My parents are buying the pushchair so it's for them really I was looking forward to saving some money. I still want the pioneer though hee.

blizy · 09/10/2014 10:27

Thats rubbish about the pram Kate. I think I will give it a miss and have an early night instead, busy day tomorrow. Off to ikea, then out for dinner and still game show with dh. Sat is my brothers 18th, so we are out again or dinner and drinks fir his first legal night out!

KateTheHuman · 09/10/2014 10:32

I'm still sitting here starving. GTT was supposed to be at 8am and they didn't take my first blood til 9. So still half an hour to go. I miss food and caffeine so much!!!!!

KateTheHuman · 09/10/2014 13:06

Well that was yucky. But then I had the best Big Mac ever!!!!

sleepisforthetired · 09/10/2014 14:29

lol -at least it is all done now Kate

After an exceptionally busy day Hmm I have knocked up a spread sheet on what I think I need for hospital

I have then separated this into columns of handbag, main bag and stay in (so if c/s). Anyone know how to upload the document like we did for the stats as would love opinions on what I have missed/really don't need (I have tried to trim it down!) and if I am being too optimistic in how little I can get away with...

Its bog standard excel document if this makes any difference :)

KateTheHuman · 09/10/2014 14:36

There was a stupid girl taking the test with her friend there today. We're meant to stay in the waiting area for the two hours and she went to the cafe. So the nurse taking my blood said they're cancelling her test. What a dumbo!?

I need to see your spreadsheet sleep haha. But i have no idea how to upload documents here. :(

KateTheHuman · 09/10/2014 14:40

Ah ok. You need to make a spreadsheet here then link it how it explains below. I think you'd be able to copy and paste from your excel spreadsheet into google documents.
