Doghouse - with maternity leave, if you don't qualify for maternity pay, you can claim maternity allowance via the job centre. I'll have to get this this time as I'm self-employed, but I think you can also get it if you are employed but haven't been for long enough to claim maternity pay. You get £100ish a week for 6 months, or 90% of your weekly pay if it's usually less than that. I don't think it's going up from 6 to 9 though, although it's not an issue for me as I can probably only manage to take 3 or 4 months off.

I am feeling wierd - somehow better, less exhausted, less slime-in-mouth, more able to cope, but paradoxically, being sick much more - once Tuesday night, once last night, once this morning. Anyone else got this? I am 11 weeks at the weekend so I was hoping I'd be starting to come out of it by now!

mammyjo · 14/09/2006 09:59

Morning! Feeling a bit better today after a vile day of vomiting and being exhausted the whole day yesterday.

Good luck Geordie for your scan today, hope all is well.

Greengirl, glad your scan was good yesterday. Cant wait for mine to come round, not long now.

With regard to maternity leave I found a site (sorry but cant remember which one). I just googled Maternity leave 2007. It said that for all babies due on or after April 1st 2007 the leave will extend from 6 to 9 months. I am in work and I know that I will get part of my regular pay and I am also entitled to statutory maternity pay which is just over £100 a week. There is maternity allowance too and I am not sure if this covers people who arent working or who are not entitled to SMP. Hope that helps a bit, will try and find out which site I was on.

mammyjo · 14/09/2006 10:00

Bramshott you beat me!! It took me so long to type my post that you got there first!

Bramshott · 14/09/2006 10:01

Super-speedy, that's me (not!).

CornflakeKid · 14/09/2006 10:01

Morning folks - I have also started being sick more - feel okay during the day but by 5pm it's a nightmare.

I think I will get maternity allowance aswell as although I will have worked for them long enough I won't have earned the qualifying amount in the last two weeks before I go on maternity leave - I think you need to earn £82 a week to get the SMP and as I work a day and a half would not qualify - could put my hours up as I had been planning to do from January then would qualify - may just do a couple of extra days just to get SMP - would be leaving in March anyway!! Only about 10 weeks working more - think I may cope and it will keep my mind of shopping for baby!!!

Off to work now - bump obvious now so may have to tell them soon- they have someone in doing volunteer work so that would make easy maternity cover!

mammyjo · 14/09/2006 10:04

I have no bump at all yet and have actually lost a few pounds due to being sick on a regular basis. Having said that I do have quite an impressive belly most of the time not being of the petite persuasion!

Bramshott · 14/09/2006 10:13

I think I'm going to have to come clean today as I've got a concert tonight (oh joy!) and can't get into any of my black trousers, so no choice but to wear a black dress which clings round my expanding belly! Trouble is, it's not a bump, just wobbly fat I've put on through constantly eating over the past six weeks!

Right, must get off mumsnet and go and do some work now!

CornflakeKid · 14/09/2006 10:14

I thought I would have lost weight - maybe looked slightly leaner as eat very little/being sick but my body esp my boobs/belly seem to have their own agenda and I clearly wasn't invited to their meeting!

Must go to work....!

mammyjo · 14/09/2006 10:14

Have a look at this site, it has lots of info about maternity allowance etc.
www.workingfamilies.org.uk

Tried to make that into a link but failed miserably. I am sure its really easy but could not see where I was going wrong.

bbpants · 14/09/2006 10:15

I too am not the thinnest of people (an understatement, actually!) and have lost a few pounds. My appetite seems to have plummeted. Also giving up the alcohol has probably had an effect.

Trouble is - I feel like I'm permanently hungover - it's not fair!

mammyjo · 14/09/2006 10:16

Have a good day at work all those going in. I am off work for 2 weeks on annual leave which is quite nice. Just a shame that the weather is miserable and very very wet today. Looks like ds and I will be doing painting and maybe a bit of cooking later, not at the same time!

doghouse · 14/09/2006 10:36

thanks to everyone for the advice on maternity pay/allowance. at least I know where to go now for help should I need it. this site is great

BTW, have just noticed hairs growing out of nipples (never had that before) - sorry if TMI but anyone else had this or am I a freak !

sallycinnamon · 14/09/2006 11:04

Its just glamour, glamour, glamour all the way doghouse! Just had the Isabella Oliver catalogue through the post (not that I can afford the clothes but I can dream...) I'm sure they use unpregnant models with cushions up their jumpers. Nobody can look that glam can they!?

Sexonlegs · 14/09/2006 13:05

Hiya loves, sorry not been posting much. Feeling really crap at the mo. Got up yesterday and my glands were up under my armpit and I came over all faint at the kitchen table! Still staying at parents house whilst house stuff going on, so Mum God love her looked after me and dd.
Feeling sick all the time and trying to eat regularly, but isn't it hard!? Just want to eat rubbish as well. Had packet savoury rice last night as that was all I fancied.
DH geeting on my t*s a bit. He came back last night after a night away. He got back at 10.45 pm (I had stayed up - was in bed at 9.00 the night before). He said I didn't seem pleased to see him. For F**'s sake, I had stayed up at least!
Rant over, apologies for that. Need to go - at work, although bugger all to do!
xx

geordiemacminx · 14/09/2006 13:36

Hey you lot - just thought I would let you know that I had my scan this morning and everything is just tickety boo... she reckons that I'm 7+2 and has booked me in for another one in a few weeks. After everything thats happened in the past few months I was so relived to see its little heart beating!! xxx

liath · 14/09/2006 13:43

So good to hear about these scans!! Mine isn't until early october so a bit to wait still.

It is TIPPING done here and I'm crying at a story on Jeremy Vine about an old man who kept his wifes dead body in bed for 5 months becuase he couldn't bear to let her go. Effing hormones!!

OP posts:
Sexonlegs · 14/09/2006 13:47

Oh Liath, I am listening to that as well. Isn't it heartbreaking. Poor guy.
Jealous of all the scans. I haven't seen the midwife yet (nearly 8 weeks now) but hope to see her soon.

hollyhobbie · 14/09/2006 13:56

Bleurgh.
DD just left with her "one afternoon a week care woman" (child minder? babysitter? not sure there's a real word for it) and I usually use the time to clean or get stuff done, but I feel so sick and crap, that I might just have to 'waste' the time by lying on the bed.
Having said that, I wouldn't be able to do that without the care woman's help, so maybe I should just appreciate my free time...

Sexonlegs · 14/09/2006 13:57

Oh God, the story is getting more upsetting. I am fighting back the tears here. Dreadful.

liath · 14/09/2006 13:58

I am blubbing big time, here. Think I should go and do some housework or something.

OP posts:
CornflakeKid · 14/09/2006 16:44

Great news Geordie!

I need sleep zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

CaptainDippy · 14/09/2006 17:22

Hello - have been feeling very tired, sicky and wobbly today - just to drink tea and hide under the duvet - unfortuntely need to go and pick my DD's up from nursery in a mo. , but to see them!! Should have done housework this afternoon, but felt too awful - feeling bad now. Hormones raging - argh!!

Glad scan went well Geordie!! Can't wait til mine, still can't believe I am preggers again - madness!!

bobblehead · 14/09/2006 17:59

Thanks for kind crisp offer CD, will see how I do when supply from sis runs out

Glad I'm not the only one not doing house work. I'm trying to get dd down for a nap, but she is singing away in her cot. Of course we have plans to go out to the museum this afternoon, so she can't sleep late so not a good day to be messing about....

doobydoo · 14/09/2006 18:08
