Great news Geordie, glad scan was ok today!

Its true isnt it, when you see other peoples new and tiny babies it makes it all worthwhile. I would just like the getting there part to be a bit more pleasant rather than making me feel so rubbish!

Nice afternoon today doing messy painting with ds and then he helped (in the loosest sense of the word) to make dinner. I love rainy days sometimes as I really feel like he has enjoyed his day and I have loved his company.

PeaJay · 14/09/2006 20:30

Hi Everyone and new people! I can't beleive how much this thread has grown. I went away for a week and came back feeling good, but after a week back at work I'm shattered again.

Quite excited as I see the MW on Monday for 1st time and have booked a nuchal scan for Tuesday - I think then it will all seem real! Will be 12 weeks exactly and be able to breathe again!

Nausea is not so bad, but the slimey mouth and lack of taste is irritating. Hot lemonade is about the only thing I can drink at the mo. I would like some energy though - might try the swimming thing if I can get up early enough!

CornflakeKid · 15/09/2006 07:27

12 weeks Peajay!!! woooohhhhooooooo well done!

Went to bed at 7pm last night with my boys either side of me - dh away - my eldest (5) kept saying "Mummy, can you face the other way please?" so I said "why?", his response was "because I'd rather you were sick over that way (over ds2)"!!! Transferred them back to own beds at 7.30pm and had a lovely 11 hours sleep!

work again today - feeling a bit on the rough side today - must go get ready - have a good day everyone.

WantAbabyNOW · 15/09/2006 11:15

Hi all, I have not had a chance to post on here in about a week as have not been able to dag myself away from the porcelain goddess. Fortunately this evening I have not had to visit. Unfortunately have had a bit of a bleed though. Am blaming dh as he insisted on bd and tbh did not really feel like it but went ahead anyway. Think maybe he was just a bit too eager.

Hope that is all it is.

Went to gp today also as ms has been so bad she is testing for infections but thinks everything will be okay.

4 more weeks.... 4 more weeks... 4 more weeks....

Will be on school holidays in another 2 weeks so hopefully will help!

Glad to hear everyone is doing well and having some very 'interesting' dreams.

PeaJay · 15/09/2006 11:43

Ive just been reading about maternity pay and leave. If you have an EDD on or after 1.4.07 you will get 39 weeks paid, if it is before this you only qualify for 26 weeks.

I was wondering what everyones experiences are of dating scans? Do they move your date earlier or later? By my dates I am due 4.4.07 - so am I going to have to bribe the MW to say this date or later!!!

I've been wondering for ages what everyone was on about with this 9 month thing, I'm blaming pregnancy brain - I'm definately losing the ability to think!!!

Hope everyone is feeling well today, I've had one dodgy moment so far but marmite on toast seems to have solved the problem. Roll on the 'blooming' time I keep being told will come!

bubblez · 15/09/2006 11:58

Hi all not going to stay online for long.

Congrats to gordie and greengirl on your scans going well.

Am 10+3 today. Took the Amoxicillin tabs prescribed to me for UTI yesterday and threw them back up again. This is the first up chuck in my pregnancy. I do honestly think that it was brought on by the tabs and hope to god that this is no the begining of ms (esp so close to the 12week mark)

Hope everyone else is feeling a hell of a lot better than me.

Take care all will post again when hopefully I feel a little more human.

How long do you think it will take for the antibiotic to work its way out of my system? (been less then 24hrs)

ps thank you CornflakeKid for you well wishes..

geordiemacminx · 15/09/2006 13:45

Should imagine if you heaved them back up then they are pretty much out of your system... keep drinking and that will help... espeically cranberry juice if you can stomach it!!! Hope you feeling better soon!!!

weeonion · 15/09/2006 14:29

hi there. i just rang my hospital to see if i could find out when my first scan will be. i have been told that it is likely to be 16weeks!!!! i am sitting here in floods - is that not too late to do certain screenings?

geordiemacminx · 15/09/2006 14:48

Babes dont cry....fone the doctor back and ask to speak to the practice manager... I'm really not sure about screenings and such like but I'm sure there will be someone who will be able to put your mind at rest... xxx

Bugmum · 15/09/2006 17:13

Haven't posted in ages!

Weeonion - the diagnostic scans are nuchal, and in many areas these are private; the 12 week scans offered by many hospitals are simply dating scans. HTH

AngeG · 15/09/2006 17:19

Weeonion hope you've calmed down a bit now and have spoken to someone at your surgery who has given you information and put your mind at rest. If not here's what I'm aware of.

It depends what type of screening you want to get done. Here in my area they do the triple blood test at 16wks which gives a risk factor for both Downs Syndrome and Spina Bifida (sp)If you had a high risk for Downs they would offer you the chance of a amniocentesis(sp) which gives a definite result and can be done up to about 20wks I think.

Earlier than 16wks you could have the nuchal scan which can be combined with a blood test to give you a risk factor of downs syndrome. But isn't available through the NHS in all areas yet...but you could pay to have it done privately. I've just looked into it and the nuchal scan alone costs £100 plus £90 if you want the blood test at the same time.

Hope this helps and that you managed to speak to someone at your surgery who gave you similar information.

Thinking of you x

AngeG · 15/09/2006 17:22

so much better put bugmum! Mine took so long to type but said pretty similar!

Bugmum · 15/09/2006 17:42

Ange - I'm not usually complimented on being succinct!

Katy44 · 15/09/2006 19:56

Hi everyone, just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm due near the end of April (9 weeks at the moment) with my first baby and am getting really excited, as well as sick!

Bugmum · 15/09/2006 20:17

Hi Katy - welcome to vomit central

bubbaloo · 15/09/2006 20:33

Evening All,

Haven't had time to catch up on the last week-we came back from our hols today and a good time was had by all.Only downside is that we've come home and one of our cats has been missing for 3 days.

CD-Sorry to hear about the driving test.If it's any consolation,it took me loads of lessons and 4 attempts before I passed.

Hope everyone is feeling ok-still no MS here but a very large belly(I look about 6 mths pg!!) and still craving monster munch by the dozen.
Still really tired all the time too,but that might have something to do with Ds,who has only started walking in the last week or two.

MrCaptainDippy · 15/09/2006 20:50

Welcome Katy - come talk about sick with us!!

Sorry to hear about your cat bubs - hope he/she comes back soon!!

Feeling veeeeeery tired today - just woken up from a wee nap!!! Feeling sooo weird all the time, definitely didn't feel like this with 1st two - hoping it passes soon, finding it tough getting through each day with a new job and two energetic toddlers!!

Mmmmmmmmm ............

How are feeling weeonion?? Have you spoken to anyone yet?? 16 weeks does seem a bit late!!

Best go - DH needs to use computer for work stuff!!

CaptainDippy · 15/09/2006 20:52

Just realised profile wasn't changed back from when DH was posting last night!!

Jaffacake1 · 15/09/2006 21:05

helloooooooooooooooooooooo

Katy44 · 15/09/2006 21:29

Hello everyone thanks for all your welcomes. bubbaloo hope your cat returns soon.
I could talk about sick until I'm up to my eyeballs in it (so to speak) but I'm sure it wuld just bore you all and leave a nasty taste in my mouth
Well, going to bed soon, what are the chances tomorrow will be a good one? Speak to you all tomorrow xx

liath · 16/09/2006 06:58

Hi & welcome, Katy.

Hope you're feeling better, weeonion - the provision for scans up here sucks doesn't it. I've got a date for mine at 14 weeks. One of my sisters (the London one) has had a nuchal scan already and gets a detailed scan all on the NHS - it's such a lottery and means if we wanted those scans we'd have to fork out hundreds of £££ when some people get them free .

Anyway, I'm all excited as I get a rare day off motherhood today as I'm off hillwalking - got my bobble hat ready & everything . Dd was up far too early so will probably be in full on whinge mode until she has a sleep, poor DH (evil cackle!)

Have a great weekend everyone.

CornflakeKid · 16/09/2006 09:23

Hello Katy44 and Jaffa - and MrCaptainDippy!

Woke up this morning feeling fine - opened bedroom door - dh had cooked bacon sandwiches for boys - smell hit - yakked! nice. Back into bed under duvet!

Dh has been food shopping - so off to see if fancy anything! (still can't open fridge!)

Have a nice day everyone

mammyjo · 16/09/2006 12:07

Welcome Katy and Jaffa!

Bubbaloo, hope your cat comes back soon. Owning pets is so lovely but so stressful at the same time when something goes wrong.

Only one more day for me and I get to 12 weeks - hooray!!

Stressing at the moment over having the test for Downs. Had a chat with dh last night about it. In my mind I kind of thought I didnt want to have it as even if I had a high risk I wouldnt consider a termination. Dh has shocked me by saying he doesnt think he could cope with a baby if it had Downs. I asked him if he could watch me go through with a termination and he said he hoped it wouldnt come to that. But what if? I am so stressed now I dont know what to do. I am 33 years old and I know that Downs doesnt happen in a huge amount of pregnancies but my mind is in total meltdown. As far as I was concerned my pregnancy would continue regardless but now I dont know what to think. Would be grateful for anyones opinion on this as I only have a few weeks left to decide what I am doing.
Sorry to be morbid but I could really do with your thoughts. Thanks everyone.

bubbaloo · 16/09/2006 13:13

That's a real tough one,Mammyjo.I'm also 33 and when I had Ds last year I was also worried about how high the risk of Down's may be.Luckily the initial test I had(although not 100% accurate),showed I had a very low chance of having a baby with Down's,so I never went ahead with anymore testing. It's very difficult to know what you would do,until you are in that situation, but hopefully when you have yor first lot of bloods done, they will be able to give you an idea of the likely/unlikelyhood of whether your baby may have Down's and you can then decide from there.Hopefully you'll get(and all of us on here too)a very healthy result, which'll put your mind to ease a little bit.

PeaJay · 16/09/2006 13:33

Hi Katy44 and Jaffa.

Mammyjo, I know what you mean. I am 33 too so Downs risk is low, but I think knowing would be better than not. I think if my baby is Downs at least I would have a few months to come to terms with it, if we decided to continue. My friend was the word of reason actually, she is 40 and 15 weeks, her scan came back really good and now she has months of peace of mind. Obviously there is the reverse and it could come back bad, but for me it would be better to know before the birth.

I've a scan booked for Tuesday (no NHS scans round here other than dating so we are forking out £160), I'm really nervous about it - I keep thinking that all of the uncomfortable griping pains I've been having means something is wrong. When I called the clinic to see what appointments they had left, they only had 1 appointment that we could both attend before 13+6 so that made up my mind for me! But as I actually haven't seen MW or doctor properly yet I'm worried about everything! Hopefully by Tues evening I'll be much more relaxed - and if not I'll be buying a bucket load of rescue remedy.

NOt sure if my ramblings are at all useful or make sense, you have to do what is right for you.
