Hey Doghouse, where are you based? Used to be an army wife myself, so know where you're coming from!

Had booking in with mw this morning - really strange to be discussing my pregnancy, makes it feel all the more real. She was also really keen on a homebirth (like you Treacletart), said she hadn't been to a good homebirth in ages! I hadn't really given the idea much thought before, but am quite keen. Just got to pursuade DH who is anti the idea. We'll talk him round!

doghouse · 13/09/2006 14:34

EmmyMummy - we are based in Chester. Also my first time in married quarters - a whole new world!!

I had my first mw appt yesterday and I know what you mean about it now seeming real. Still keep thinking they have got it all wrong though and it's all a big joke! Can't wait for scan - now then it will feel real!

liath · 13/09/2006 14:47

Hi everyone! Sorry to hear about the driving test, CD - blame the hormones I reckon! I'm so glad I sat mine before you had to reverse park to pass! Unfortunately I wrote off my mum's car a few weeks after passing mine !

Tried the swimming cure for MS and took dd to the pool. Had a lovely time and did feel less sick - until I had a hot chocolate afterwards anyway. I should really go more often, we have a fantastic pool just round the corner. I loved swimming in the late stages of pregnancy last time.

Hollyhobbie - I think the scan thing is pretty variable over here - my London sister has had a nuchal scan and will get a detailed 20 week scan on the NHS whereas I only get a dating scan at 12 weeks & if I want a nuchal or detailed scan would have to go private. Makes me a bit cross.....

Doobydoo - I reckon Dungarvan must have something in the water to boost fertility, we stayed with friends there having been trying to get pregnant for 4 years and came back with a bun in the oven (dd)!

Hiya all,

Welcome newcomers and gordie from may thread

Sorry to hear about your test CD although I wouldn't worry as I only know one person (out of many) who passed 1st time.

about treacletart's DH

Zazas I'm not sure about the vomiting blood but if I was you I would speak to a doctor.

Glad you got rid of the green twinkle.

Went docs today as have been having cramping etc, found out that I have a urine infection and have been prescribed Amoxicillin (antibiotics). DD has a cold so was kept me up last night, in the end I was so wide awake that I didn't fall back to sleep until 6.30am so needless to say I feel like death warmed up today. OH the Joys!!

Roll on the 12th week please, roll on, roll on roll on!!

Greengirlforever · 13/09/2006 15:27

I am a very happy Greengirl . Just back from my early scan. Had a lovely sonographer who showed me that there is indeed a bean in there - and only one thank god! It wiggled and I saw it's heartbeat and I have a lovely little photo. She makes me 9.3 and I have my nuchal at 11.4, so on the early side but not too early. Wow - for the first time it really feels real now!

Twinkle - I am in Honiton in East Devon. Used to live in Exeter and before that Buckfastleigh (mid-way between Exeter and Plymouth). Glad we're best friends!

Dooby Doo - All my lot are Dublin based, except my sister who lives in Meath in the middle of nowhere. I would love to go back and live in Dublin, but my DS1 is just starting his GCSEs in a really good school here so we'll be staying in gorgeous Devon for a few years more at least.

doobydoo · 13/09/2006 15:49

Congrats on your scan GreengirlI too am beconing at all these scans i can't wait to hear when i will have one..getting abit desp now in case it's all a dream.
Best stay in Devon Greengirl.House prices here have gone ballistic haven't they?I reckon Dublin is more pricey than London.
I think i will try swimming sounds rather appealing.Hope we all have a good/non pukey evening. But like the rest of you if i don't feel sick for a while i start to panic!
HeHe....interesting about the water Liath as there seems to be loads of preggers people around at the mo

geordiemacminx · 13/09/2006 15:56

Congrats on your scan greengirl, I bet you are grinning like a cheshire cat. I have mine tomorrow, I'm only 7 weeks, just praying that I wont be told that they cant see anything and to come back in a week. Lots of sickness - so hoping that is a good sign. Swimming sounds good.... although the thought of dragging my lard arse out of bed early to go swimming does not.. Dear santa.. for xmas I would like a swimming pool in the garden.

Greengirlforever · 13/09/2006 16:32

I have a question for everyone about MATERNITY LEAVE. I think this issue was raised early in our first thread, but has anyone else heard that statutory paid maternity leave will be going up from 6 to 9 months on April 6 2007???

I checked this out with ACAS ages ago and they said it was so, but I have heard nothing else. Am absolutely cacking myself now as my due date has been brought forward to 10th April! My other 2 have both been at least 14 days late(!) but knowing my luck.... I'll keep my legs crossed if I have to!

Greengirlforever · 13/09/2006 16:34

Oops - well DS1 was 18(!) days late and DS2 12 days late actually. So they're getting earlier...

weeonion · 13/09/2006 17:02

wow 0 we all have been a busy lot.
i do believe that maternity leave is increasing for all of due after the 1st april 07. i think it is up to 32 weeks??

great news GG!

does anyone get days when they just dont feel pg? i had a bad day today - my boobs aint sore, the tummy is flatter and i feel lightheaded. convinced something up so went a bought a kit - done another test. its still +.

i wont be getting 1st scan til 15weeks - so i'm going private for nuchal. Liath - you got yr date yet from edinburgh??

doghouse · 13/09/2006 17:05

Weeonion - I know what you mean about not feeling pg. Last night, when I usually feel grotty, was starving, ate all my supper and was still wide awake at 9.30pm (a first for ages) ... am trying not to worry but it is hard.

Also, re. mat leave - does anyone know where I stand as I don't have a job (and am worrying that I won't get one as have just moved & can't imagine who will want me for anything other than temporary once they know I am pg). Will I get any money?!

CornflakeKid · 13/09/2006 17:06

Great news GreenGirlForever.

Bubblez - hope you feel better soon.

Off to football with the boys - last thing I feel like!

weeonion · 13/09/2006 17:17

bobblehead · 13/09/2006 17:43

Hello everyone. I am a very infequent poster too MIAM as like you I just have no energy, but I like reading about how everyone else is doing, although it is becoming a struggle to keep up!

Thought my ms was going but it just keeps resurfacing, as does the exhaustion. I am 11 weeks today, although the Dr last week put me a week ahead cos of my dates (apparently don't take cycle length into consideration) so I expect it to change at my scan.

Feel very when you all talk about crisps as we can't get things like sq crisps and monster munch too, but my sister arrived yesterday with a few packets in her suitcase (which went missing for 24 hrs) so I'm happy for now

weeonion · 13/09/2006 18:17

god - just got lost in another thread for an hour about gentle birth method... any of you heard of it. seems like alot of hard work - def no crisps with that one!

CaptainDippy · 13/09/2006 20:08

Where are you bobblehead??

Tell me more about your "unplanned homebirth" treacletart - sounds exciting!!! Do you think you'll have a "planned" one this time?

Sorry - had to write those Q's 1st cos otherwise I'd forget - PG Brain on overload!!

1st day of new job today - was fine, but did feel sicky yuk though. Going to be working 3 mornings a week - must remeber to take lots of snacks tomorrow!!

Gotta go - soooo much to get done .....

blossom2 · 13/09/2006 20:24

love the title of this thread btw!

so 10 weeks now and just cant wait until the 12 wk mark!!!

ms has died down but still completely shattered all the time.

i had the most amazing dream with George Clooney the other night - he was in love with me and want to have our babies and then it got pornographic.... DH asked me why i'd woked up wth such a big smile. Is anyone else finding their dreams more intense as well??

treacletart · 13/09/2006 20:50

Captain Dippy all the details are here but basically he came so fast (less than 4 hours from very first twinge) I had no chance to get to the hospital. Luckily, I'd done active birth classes so wasn't too scared of a home birth - good thing too because the ambulance crew had no birthing experience at all and the midwife only got to us literally 5 mins before DS arrived! Last week midwife was very positive about a home birth and implied they'd prefer it given that the next one is likely to be even quicker. Made a mess of the carpet last time and want to be better prepared this time. My mum's already offered to stump up for a hire birth pool for me bless her!

bobblehead · 14/09/2006 01:07

I'm in Canada CaptainDippy, where bags of crisps are dangerously large and just not the same. I seem to crave all the foods from back home which just aren't the same here, just like I did with dd (though I wouldn't quite call it a craving yet, just lack of aversion!)

Your birth sounds very exciting Treacletart. My labour last time was just under 6 hrs start to finish, so while I'm not in danger of a home birth I am hoping for it to be over fairly quickly this time!

Lelee · 14/09/2006 07:50

HI everyone

Congrats on your scan greengirl.

Weeonion - I understand what you mean about not feeling pg.

I usually feel sick, and my boobs dont feel that sore anymore.
I just need Monday to hurry up so I can go for my scan and see a little heartbeat!!!!!!!

I should 8wks then I think so hopefully fingerscrossed.

sleepingbag · 14/09/2006 08:14

HI everyone the only thing i crave is fruit but that is making my heartburn terrible...heartburn at nine and an half weeks what is that all about!! With my DS only had it much later on and no way as bad.

CaptainDippy · 14/09/2006 08:35

Wow - not too many posts after mine this time!!

Off to 2nd day @ work in a mo - feeling ok this morning - have little "picnic" to take with me today so won't get too hungry and sicky like I did yesterday - In fact, it was DH who bought and packed my "picnic" last night, gotta love him!!

Could I send you a wee crisp selection bobblehead?? captain_dippy "at" yahoo "dot" co "dot" uk if you would like me too! (I will seriously - I know how important these things are to us preggers ones!! )

treacletart - how exciting!! Homebirth is deffo for you this time, me thinks!!!!

Gotta go - don't want to be late.......

weeonion · 14/09/2006 09:26

captain dippy - good luck on the 2nd day!

i had a complete meltdown last night. it all seemed too much for me. i dont know how i feel about being pg anymore. it doesnt feel real and we havent told anyone. i am convinced something will go wrong. Dp freaked with me - saying that i am normally the 1 to keep it together and if i cant - then he isnt sure about all this.
went to bed and cried all night. left for work at 5.30am, wont be home til midnight and feeling very sorry for myself. it's raining as well.

doghouse · 14/09/2006 09:34

Weeonion - don't worry I am sure it is all normal. I have been dreaming about having a baby for years, convinced myself due to my age, being on the pill forever and lack of partner (!) that I never would. Then I go and meet someone fabulous and within 3 years we are married and expecting a baby having only tried for one month and YET here I am now feeling a bit miserable, uncertain and worrying about if I will cope with it all!!!

Greengirlforever · 14/09/2006 09:43

Weeonion don't worry too much! My DP is a disaster that way too - he always seems to pick up my mood and magnify it back to me rather than trying to cheer me up or packing me a picnic like CD !

I think most of us will have days when we think "what are we doing" - I always get huge (and I mean really huge) by the end of my pgcys and the thought of going through all that again at my (ancient) age sometimes really gets to me. And then there's everything that follows it with a new baby! It will pass - even on my worst days I can't help but feel deep down that having a baby is a positive thing. Maybe it's the wrong way of getting it into perspective, but imagine how you'd feel if you lost it (sorry if that was too awful!)?

Finally the MN newsletter today reported that woman who have had babies live longer than those who haven't so that's a reason to be cheerful !
