Ooh, thanks for posting that maternity leave stuff. Pleased to see that the maternity allowance is extending, as well as SMP, and very excited by them allowing you to work for 10 days, as I wasn't sure how I was going to manage doing the bits and pieces I will have to do (I am self-employed) without invoicing for them whilst claiming MA.

I was a bit unsure about checking out other threads as when I was expecting DD she was due in March but born in Jan, so I am half expecting this one to show up in Feb!! But as you guys are all at the same (sicky!) stage as me, and as I am in fact "due in April", I am staying here!! And of course you're all so lovely too!

Going to phone the hospital today about the scan they have verbally told me will be a week today (when I'll be 12+4 or something) but not confirmed yet. Have decided we'll tell DD (3.8) after the scan, so am really looking forward to that! Has anyone else told their older kids yet?

twinkle183 · 21/09/2006 11:13

Haven't posted for a while but good news on everyone scan results well done! Have mine tomorrow so just hope that this will put my mind to rest

I will let you all know how it goes tomorrow... Having to becareful when I post also as do it from work and don't want to get found out!

Welcome to all the newcomers - hope you have happy and healthy pregnancies...

Oh did anyone see on the news about the woman who had twins about 10months ago and has just given birth to triplets! That 5 children under 1!!! I don't know how she copes????

geordiemacminx · 21/09/2006 11:15

Yep, I'm self employed too, am just sorting out my national insurance stuff at the moment.. need to make sure I will get everything that I'm entitled too.. little as it may be!!!

My dp has two kids from previous marriage dd 15 and ds 12.. we havent told them yet as they live quite a way from us, but am planning to tell them in the next few weeks. Think once I had next scan at 9+2 then I will be a bit more settled... god knows how they are going to take it though... their mother seems to have taken an instant disliking to me even though they have been divorced for 7 years and she is married again!!! Think its a little bit of the green eyed monster tbh.. think she was still carrying a candle for dp...

Bramshott · 21/09/2006 11:33

Oh shit. They've confirmed the scan, but much earlier than they'd told me (midday) so I'm going to have to either get someone else to pick DD up from pre-school, or take her out mid-morning and take her with me. Hmmmmmm.

AngeG · 21/09/2006 11:39

Geordie sounds similar to me. My dh has two kids from previous marriage dd15 and dd12. We have told ours though as they live close infact I work with their mum at my dh family business and they stay with us 1 night a week and every other weekend.

Normally I get on really well with their mother, but she gets a bit funny when i'm pregnant. She did last time as well. Think she always wanted more children. She's with someone else now but he's had the snip so no chance there!

Bramshott also like me. I thought about checking the earlier threads out. The thing is that they are so far ahead we can't compare symptoms and the people on here on so friendly and welcoming. My DS came 6 weeks early. Due at the end of October but came at beginning of September. So I'm expecting that this one might arrive in Feb also. Bit scary to think like that really I try not to most of the time. How was your DD when she was born?

Hope everyone ok.

AngeG · 21/09/2006 11:43

Bramshott I think if you could get someone to pick DD up it might be better. I'm not taking DS to my scans. I don't think he'd like it. He's 3. Also if they're running late occupying her could be a problem! Having said that plenty of other people take their other children. I just think it would be a better experience without them there. xx

geordiemacminx · 21/09/2006 11:53

Bramshott.. can she not stay in pre school all day, or do an afternoon instead? Perhaps if you explain to them? Sorry if I'm talking pish... I have absolutely no experience with those things!

Ex-wives eh? God I dont think I could face working with dp's... I think you deserve a medal the size of a frying pan AngeG... To be honest I havent had much to do with her, although me being closer to dd's age than dp's seems to have caused her some problems...even though at times its her that acting more immature than anyone.. still thats another thread!!!

All you tartan lot.. so much for the storms eh???

On the earlier subject of iron def. I got some spatone sachets yesterday from boots.. you just mix them with water.. havent made me feeling like dancing yet but I'm sure they will soon.. mw recommended them..they are far better than the skanky medicine I bought earlier in the week... made me heave!!!

AngeG · 21/09/2006 12:05

Geordie what are your stats then? I can't find you on our stats thread! I'm nearer the dd 15 age that my dh also!

geordiemacminx · 21/09/2006 12:08

I think I might be on the may thread as dd was 3/05 but then scan said 01/05... more people on this thread, plus more scottish mums to be so I've hijacked this one.
Me:24,
Dp:43, dd 15, ds 12.
edd 01/05
living in bonny scotland!!
mc in june

AngeG · 21/09/2006 12:10

Hooray someone else with a big age gap. Me 27 DH 41 in October. Yours is better than mine so well done.

geordiemacminx · 21/09/2006 12:13

Ex wife seems to have more of a problem with it the dd, who thinks it great when I take her shopping to places like topshop and such like!!! Not sure how they going to take the baby news mind you... dont think ds will be that bothered.. he isnt bothered about anything other than arsenal!! dd will hopefully be ok, she is very much daddy's little girl still but hopefully that wont change.. hopefully she'll be chuffed with a little baby brother or sister to dress up!!

Bramshott · 21/09/2006 12:16

Unfortunately the pre-school only runs till 12.30, and I've got my consultant appt at 1.40 (after scan at 12.00) so I'm not going to be back till about 2.30. What I was going to do was take her out of pre-school at 12.00, then drop her off at the day nursery she goes to on some other days for the afternoon. But that was when I thought my scan was going to be later than my consultant's appt. Think I might try to change the scan but can't really get my head round it at the moment! Sorry - I am waffling, you don't need to know all this - I will sort it!!

AngeG - nice to see you have the same worries! DD was born at 33 weeks and was basically fine - a good weight at 4lbs 11oz, and stayed in for 3 weeks to get her breathing sorted out, put on weight etc. Now 3.8, she's doing absolutely great! Part of me of course wants to get to 40 weeks with this one, but a small, selfish part can't help thinking that giving birth to a 4lb baby was actually pretty good, and that I can't imagine how different it must be with an 8lb-er!!

AngeG · 21/09/2006 12:26

Bramshott me too. DS born at 34wks and was fine except small - he'd stopped growing at about 28wks- only weighed 2lbs 10oz and stayed in for 3 weeks to put weight on and regulate body temp.
He's now 3 and is doing great also. I know exactly what you mean about getting to 40 wks. I had emergency c-section and am having another section this time - i'm only 4ft 11 with size 3 feet apparently that can make natural birth difficult! Having a small baby was wonderful and he stayed a baby for a long time. I don't think I want a really big baby! Still nearer 4-7 lbs would be preferable!

Good luck sorting out the scan etc. Think I would try and change the scan time and then do as you were thinking before.

mammyjo · 21/09/2006 13:41

Hi all! My ds was 8.11 and I can imagine squeezing out a 4 pounder would be somewhat easier! My nether regions were rather the worse for wear for some considerable time afterwards!! (sorry if TMI).

Feeling crap today and it is starting to get me down a bit. My sickness has been worse and I have actually been vomiting several times a day this week. Even throwing up after my meals which I was managing to keep down until recently. Feel guilty for feeling fed up as I am so pleased to be pregnant, I just wish I could feel more normal. Sorry to be a misery, having a bad day I think.

Bramshott · 21/09/2006 14:27

Oh poor you mammyjo, and you're the magic 12 weeks as well aren't you! Hope you feel better soon (sure you will - don't they say it's gone for most people by 14 weeks?). I am feeling better during the days, but throwing up most evenings - ho hum!

Luckily my friend has come up trumps and offered to have my DD on the day of my scan so it's all sorted (well if she can get someone standing by to pick her eldest up from school it is). I can't wait!!

AngeG · 21/09/2006 14:43

Poor you mammyjo, hope you're feeling better soon. Don't feel bad no matter how happy you are at being pregnant you can't possibly feel happy about being and feeling sick!

Bramshott glad you got someone to have DD for your scan.

WestCountryLass · 21/09/2006 15:09

Well my 5.5lb 34 weeker was a much more difficult delivery than my 8lb 12oz 39 weeker, so hopefully that will reassure some of you

DS had his hand by his head with the cord wrapped round a few times and he tore me badly all the way out. The midwife was stiching me up for 45 minutes when she said, I can do the outside now and I had labial tears and all sorts. With DD I had a small tear but no stitches.

mammyjo · 21/09/2006 15:43

Its funny isnt it. You would expect to tear more badly with the bigger baby and yet it was the other way round for you WCL. I am hoping for a better time with this one, my midwife seems to think that despite having a third degree tear last time I could be ok due to having done it all before!

Apologies for being a misery guts. Just having one of those days. Have been getting headaches the last couple of days too which are just not helping in the grand scheme of things . Havent taken any paracetamol as I am trying to manage without and the headache is really not that bad. I think its to do with not drinking enough and getting a bit dehydrated but I am struggling to find drinks that tempt me at the mo. Oh my life is one long joy!!

linalett · 21/09/2006 16:35

just thought I would say hi - just added stats to the other thread - have been lurking for ages, but now I've had the 12 week scan I feel official.

liath · 21/09/2006 16:35

Definitely no hurricane here, it's really warm!

Sorry to hear you're feeling so crap, mammyjo. MS really is vile. And WHEN is this tiredness going to get better???? I'm sure we're supposed to bloom at some point aren't we??

OP posts:
geordiemacminx · 21/09/2006 16:38

liath · 21/09/2006 16:39

Katy44 · 21/09/2006 16:44

Hi everyone, glad scans have gone well, esp PeaJay, sounds like a big relief to you!
Geordie, I'm glad someone else has noticed the trousers getting too tight thing. I was quite surprised as I'm surely not starting to show yet, so why??? I decided that it wasn't so much that my tummy was getting bigger, but that it's slightly sore.
My DH has also been displaying some pregnancy symptoms, he claims, mainly tiredness. we have had a couple of really childish arguments about who feels worse
I've had some strange cravings - salad and fruit , but every so often a bag of salt and vinegar discos catches my eye in a shop and I have to have them. NOW.

hollyhobbie · 21/09/2006 18:04

Hi Mammyjo, I've been getting headaches too. I don't have too many problems with taking paracetamol, but my doctor gave me a prescription for some homeopathic remedy (I live in Germany, tho, so slightly different system here), but maybe homeopathy could help you too? Also, I didn't need to use it this time, but accupuncture can help morning sickness apparently.
Sorry if all of these aren't available where you are, but maybe it might be of some help?
HH

Bugmum · 21/09/2006 18:08

I too am glad scans are going well!

Mammyjo - I have the dehydration problem; my MW says you should drink at least 2 litres of water a day when PG, but that is tough, isn't it? Hard to know what to drink. I like a drink for the first couple then go off it; I have a cupboard full of expensive cordials and flavoured fuzzy waters going dusty. Sigh. And I have now developed SPOTS as well. I'm 40! I'm an oldie! I'm not meant to have spots Not being sceptical really, but wanted to try the new emoticon
