I had chips and cheese for lunch... tasted very good at the time but are now making me feel extremely sleepy!!!!

mammyjo · 20/09/2006 15:30

I cant eat chocolate at all, it makes me throw every time and normally I went through stacks of the stuff!
Congrats bubblez on your scan, glad everything is good.
Welcome Duchesse and congratulations! Hoping everything is ok for you. Keeping fingers crossed xx

PeaJay · 20/09/2006 15:51

Hello everyone - sorry for not coming on sooner but scan was at 4.30pm yesterday, so by the time we got home and called everyone it was really late.

It was truely amazing. I'd convinced myself that the pains were bad news and all I was going to see was a black hole - so when a little baby appeared on the screen I was speechless!! I can't beleive the detail you can see, the consultant showed us all the necessary bits - arms, fingers, spine, heart etc etc. The nuchal results were excellent aswell, I have no worries there now.

But what really made it worth every penny was getting a video and dvd of the scan, every minute from start to finish is on it. I can sit there watching it knowing my baby is there and moving. I didn't think I'd be excited like this, but now it's real!!

Its all going pear shaped at work so must go!! Catch up later!

CornflakeKid · 20/09/2006 15:51

Welcome Duchesse!

geordiemacminx · 20/09/2006 15:55

Peejay so pleased your scan went ok, I bet its really put your mind at rest!!!

Welcome Duchesse... nice to have you with us!!!

EllieMayW · 20/09/2006 15:57

Peajay - WOW! That sounds amazing! I can guess what you will be watching on telly tonight ...

West Country Lass - can't believe that you have just mentioned penguins, I feel like I am a woman possessed and need 77 of them RIGHT NOW! Talk about a craving, My God!! I am going to have to stop on the way home from work and get some.

I am massively struggling not telling work but I really don't want to as I just couldn't face them knowing if anything went wrong before 12 weeks. It's quite a male environment. I also have to do quite a bit of client entertaining and have had two really dodgy client lunches where I have tipped wine. I used to have at least a couple and I feel like it is so conspicuous. Any tips from anyone as to why we are not drinking?

BlueberryPancake · 20/09/2006 16:16

Can I join you girls? I'm 10 weeks pregnant (I think) well I know I'm pregnant just not sure of the dates because I was breastfeeding DS 1, who is now 10 months old so my periods were very irregular. Due date 21 April but that could change!

In good health so far, I have fixation on Pret's All Day Big Breakfast sandwiches, can't stand the smell of cheese and onion crisps!

Tips for not drinking: you are taking antibiotics, you're in the AA, or just tell them that you tend to get too flirty when you drink!!! that could be funny...

I have to admit I haven't read all 250+ messages in this thread but I'm sure I'll get to know you all

Much love
pancake

geordiemacminx · 20/09/2006 16:24

BP... lovely of you to join us. We're all a friendly bunch, and are usually full of good advice. Its a bit quiet today as I tihnk there was a problem with MN this morning so a lot of people couldnt get on.. where abouts are you?

BlueberryPancake · 20/09/2006 16:42

I'm in London, I live in the now famous and not so friendly Forest Gate area and work in the City. I was very happy to learn this morning that in the UK, all babies DUE on or after 1 April will have a longer maternity pay (well the the babies, but the mums!). I'll be better off by about £1200!!! I wonder how many All Day Breakfast sandwiches I can get for that....

geordiemacminx · 20/09/2006 16:51

There has been a few people mentioning this - is this statutoty maternity pay? I'm self employed so not sure what if anything I will get?

CornflakeKid · 20/09/2006 16:52

EllieMayW - tooth/root infection works well.

Welcome BlueberryPancake!

geordiemacminx · 20/09/2006 16:57

Could try going to the bar for yourself, ordering a lemonade and making like its vodka lime and lemonade... only problem is if someone else buys you one...

Diet? anti-biotics... bit early for lent.. or ramamdan?

BlueberryPancake · 20/09/2006 17:00

here's the long answer to the new maternity pay in the UK -

Changes to Statutory Maternity Pay and Maternity Allowance for babies due on or after 1 April 2007
On the 2 December 2004 the Chancellor, in his Pre-Budget Report, announced changes to Maternity Benefits. These improvements, which are included in the Work and Families Act 2006:

  • Extend Maternity Allowance and Statutory Maternity Pay from 26 to 39 weeks (I don't know if this applies to self employed)
  • Enable MA and SMP to start on any day of the week, so that MA and SMP start on the same day as maternity leave
  • Introduce Keeping in Touch days (KIT) ? women may work for a limited period of 10 days without loss of MA/SMP
  • Enable the weekly rate of SMP to be divided by 7, to help employers match SMP payments more easily with the pattern of pay in the employment.

The changes will only apply to women expecting babies on or after 1 April 2007; regardless of when their baby is actually born.

Women with babies due up to and including 31 March 2007 will continue to receive payment for a maximum of 26 weeks and benefit from all the current rules.

hollyhobbie · 20/09/2006 17:49

Hi all, welcome newbies too!
Had my 12 week scan today - it was very short, especially after waiting for an hour. Humph!
BUT- was great to finally see the baby, it even waved at us! I'd kept waking up all last night, after dreaming over and over again that I was told it was twins, so it was a relief to just see one babe there.
The DR only took one measurement, but even so, apparently the baby is quite big for its weeks, so it may be that it will come early. I hope so, as at the moment it's due 10 days before DD's 2nd birthday. If I could give birth at the end of March then at least they would have different birthday months (spreading the cost for their poor parents...)
I guess that means I should check out the 'due March' thread, but I've got to know you lot, so I think I'll just stick here.

WestCountryLass · 20/09/2006 18:04

Ooooo, Hollyhobby, i've been having the twins dream too. I am thinking it is because this is my last pregnancy I am secretely hoping to have the twins and the 4 children I would love but DH will not agree to...

doobydoo · 20/09/2006 18:23

doobydoo · 20/09/2006 18:28

hollyhobbie · 20/09/2006 18:29

We've not heard from Ooogs for ages, and she is carrying twins, isn't she?

bubbaloo · 20/09/2006 19:09

Peajay and Hollyhobbie-Congrats to you both on your scans.I also can't wait for mine and am convinced it's twins, although it's probably not.

BlueberryPancake-Welcome to the April thread.I'm also due near the end, around the 26th/27th.

mammyjo · 20/09/2006 19:48

Hi all. Welcome blueberry!
Excellent news peajay and hollyhobbie, really pleased everything is ok with your scans. Looking forward to mine next week but apprehensive at the same time. My ms is actually worse this week so I have got it into my head that maybe there is more than one in there! It wouldnt thrill me I must be honest!!

CornflakeKid · 20/09/2006 19:48

Bubbaloo - I was convinced was twins as well and dh quite disappointed it isn't - I'm dismayed that it is all fat afterall!! Oooggs is def having twins - think she may have gone to the march thread as they will probably be early.

Off to bed soon...

AngeG · 20/09/2006 20:20

That's better a bit more like our usual busy selves tonight!

Excellent news about people's scans today. Can't wait for mine next week. I keep veering between panic that there is nothing there cos my ms has gone and panic that it is twins...it's amazing how our brains work.

Welcome to all the newbies, it's great to have so many people to 'talk' to who are at a similar stage.

I looked after my friends twin boys (10months) for the day today as well as ds and am sooo tired now. She's asked me to have them for a weekend in October but if i'm still feeling like this don't think i'll be able to.

Good to hear from you all today. xx

weeonion · 21/09/2006 10:25

another quiet evening and morning - are we all ok??

PeaJay · 21/09/2006 10:35

Morning everyone! I tried 4 times to send a message last night and could not get it to post!

Hi to duchesse and pancake. Hollyhobbie - its excellent you had a good scan too. It's such a releif isn't it?

Weeonion - my scan was private cos they dont offer a nuchal scan on NHS here. I really enjoyed it so it was worth the money. Wouldn't it be good if we could have a scan every week..... We dont get the NHS dating scan, as the consultant dated me there.

The consultant thinks that I am 5 days futher on than I think I am, which is great cos every day counts - but bad from a maternity leave point of view! So I think I would be due 4.4, he thinks 30.3 and work are saying the new package doesn't come in until 6.4. However, he was a really nice man and has put my due date as 6th April so I can get the new package! I just hope that work will take that date and not change it if the 20 week scan says something different!! 13 weeks extra will make such a big difference to us. I think everyone else is due further into April aren't you?

Off for marmite and toast - seems to keep the ms at bay!
