Pleased its not just me then!!! Its actually getting quite uncomfortable!!! My mother keeps twittering on about getting some bran but at the moment the thought of eating anything like that makes me want to heave!!! Will just stick with the hot water for now!! The doctor gave me a prescription for something to help but I want to try and take as little as possible, at least for the first 12 weeks IYKWIM.

Greengirlforever · 18/09/2006 10:17

No - I am already on my first cup a soup to get rid of that horrible sicky feeling! Also very breathless due to iron deficiency, which I am already taking the liquid iron for. This adds up to eating too much and no exercise so not looking good for keeping weight gain down.

TOPICS DISCUSSED OVER THE WEEKEND(!)
Re the DP matching symptoms - don't get me started! He's been "exhausted" all the time and actually claimed to feel sick a few weekends ago. He's not giving up anything - not even being annoying....

My nuchal (on nhs here in Devon...) scan is Thursday week and I will be paying very close attention to the results due to being 41 etc. And then having amnio if necessary. So who is actually first with their 12-week scan? We should try to keep track.

Bramshott · 18/09/2006 10:26

Greengirl - my 12 week scan is Thursday week (28th) too. At least I hope it is - I'm seeing the consultant that afternoon, and when I called the ultrasound people they said "oh yes, we'll definitely be able to do your 12 week scan that afternoon too", but now I'm worried that I haven't had any confirmation of that in writing, and wondering if I should call them.

Have been trying to see if my mother in law can come down and look after DD, because someone told me they don't like it if you take other children with you to the scan. Also the consultant mentioned something about "taking swabs" which doesn't sound too pleasant or something I'd want a 3 year old to see! MIL may not be able to though, so I may end up booking her into nursery for the afternoon at great expense.

I have found myself worrying about the nuchal fold test, and what it might show etc, even though I know there's no particular need to worry as I'm only 32, and in any case, I wouldn't rule out having a baby with Downs. Mind you, have also found myself irrationally worrying about the HIV test they do, despite being sure there's nothing to worry about there either!

Mammyjo has the earliest due date, so I guess she may have the earliest 12-week scan too? I think she's said when it is but I can't find it now.

That's enough wittering from me - I am very unmotivated this morning!!

Greengirlforever · 18/09/2006 10:32

I would check, Bramshott. I had a very confusing letter cancelling a scan date I didn't know I had (way too early in any case) and giving me this one, which my midwife had already told me about anyway so go figure! I am going to ring to double check (keeping the old stress levels down). Regarding your DD, is not your DP accompanying you to the appt in which case he can hang onto her? Mine is during work so DS2 will be safely in nursery in any event. Lots of luck with your scan.

geordiemacminx · 18/09/2006 10:37

GGF - I've been suffering loads with breathlessness, also at times it feels like my heart is racing... almost like a panic attack.. was wondering what it was... did the doctor diagnose iron def? I've been taking pro natal supplement, but should maybe consider iron too?

Bramshott · 18/09/2006 10:44

GGF - sadly DH is in his third week of a new job, so isn't sure if he'll be able to make it to the scan. I think he'll probably come to the 20 week one instead.

EllieMayW · 18/09/2006 10:52

Hi everyone. Welcome to the "newies"

Have been keeping a low profile and just reading for the last few days as feel pretty yuk.

My God, I thought my breathlessness was just being unfit but to be honest I do exercise quite a bit so that didn't make much sense. I had heard that it was a symptom but I thought it was only when you were huge and the lungs were being squashed so I have ignored. Geordie, my heart is racing too. Greengirl, what's the whole iron thing about? Is that Dr prescribed? Should I be doing anything about it? Bit worried now.

bubbaloo · 18/09/2006 11:02

Morning Ladies,
Tigger has returned home after 5 days, woohoo.

I've also been feeling breathlessness and thought it was because I'm quite unfit(and it my case it probably is!!)-didn't realise it could be a sympton.I'm also finding it very hard to get comfortable in bed and have bought a body pillow which doesn't really help.Have also been rather constipated too,but I remember being exactly the same when I was pg with Ds,as before then I had very bad IBS which was the other way,so that made a "nice" change.

Is anyone still feeling really tired? I've been awake since 6am this morning and so far have managed to stay awake, but normally I'm back in bed at 9.30 when ds goes down for his nap.

Hope everyone is well and looking forward to getting to 12 weeks(I've still got 3 weeks to go!).

Greengirlforever · 18/09/2006 11:09

Bubbaloo & Ellie May - I suffered terribly with breathlessness with DS2 (now 3) and my GP (with blood tests) identified anaemia, of which breathlessness can often be a symptom. Iron taken in tablet form can make the dreaded pregnancy constipation even worse so I was recommended this stuff called Spatone. It is liquid iron and comes in a big orange box full of little orange sachets. The best time to take it is first thing in the morning on an empty stomach (it tastes very metallic, but you can put it in fruit juice or something - I don't actually mind the taste!). This time around I am self-medicating as it is all very familiar - but I will mention it to my midwife next time I see her as I think I would like to go up to 2 sachets per day. BTW I am having absolutely no probs with "going" so that side of things works well.

I would see your GP/midwife first and ask for a blood test to check your iron levels, then see if you can get this stuff on prescription. I think I had to pay for mine and they would only prescribe for cheaper iron tablets.

EllieMayW · 18/09/2006 11:13

Greengirl, thanks very much. That is very helpful. I think I will go and see the mw or Dr and mention it. I am taking pregnacare which I was hoping would do the trick with everything but looks like it might not be.

geordiemacminx · 18/09/2006 11:14

I havent even got appointment with midwife yet, and really dont want to go to doctors as I've been twice in the past couple of weeks... plus it takes a week and a half to get an appointment.. Do you think taking it just in case would be ok?

Bramshott · 18/09/2006 11:16

There is also something called Floradix which you can get from the health food shop which I took whilst breastfeeding DD. Again, it's natural and liquid so doesn't have the "problems" that iron tablets do.

CornflakeKid · 18/09/2006 11:21

I am breathless aswell and think I have a urine infection(still)- having pains in kidney area of back - so went to docs this morning to see if they had urine results from A&E from last sunday - no - did another sample - very cloudy - so now awaiting more tests to be done. I haven't seen midwife yet (12 weeks here) and no blood taken yet - but do feel breathless and light headed when get up quickly.

Do you say that you are 10 weeks or in week 11? Week 11 sounds much better and closer to 12 - so next week - am I 12 weeks being in week 12? Very confusing!

doghouse · 18/09/2006 11:22

Bubbaloo - so pleased cat has returned. As someone said, pets are wonderful until something goes wrong and then such a worry.

I have problems 'going' normally but amazingly not when pg!! My sis did though and she was prescribed lactulose (sp.?).

Have been on another thread about whether or not to consider joining NCT or going to their antenatal classes - some scary stories there!! Anyone else considering? Seems like in some areas it is a middle class cult or soemthing!! Think I will go to classes though as need to make friends in the area as have just moved.

CornflakeKid · 18/09/2006 11:24

I think will mention iron when they call me about urine sample.

Geordie - would def go in and get checked over.

CornflakeKid · 18/09/2006 11:29

doghouse - I went to nct classes 5 1/2 years ago with my first and we still meet up every week - made some really good and reliable friends. Also they do loads postnatally and you get a support person you can call. Didn't go with second, this time planning to go to antenatal yoga which has a discussion session afterwards. My sister had a terrible experience of NCT where she lives - didn't have a merc! Really think it depends on where you live/what the people are like. I thought it was really worthwhile although felt could have been more on life after birth!

bubblez · 18/09/2006 11:36

Hiya all

Welcome all newbies!! Congrats on everyones scans going well.

Feeling a lot better today, Amoxicillin is well and truly out of my system. Have to call doctors at 3.30 for culture results to see if I have to start a new course of a different type of antibiotic. So fingers crossed that I don't have to.

Mamajo I've already decided that when my dd starts nursery I'm going to bawl. So your not alone there... Oh and when my mum dropped me off at senior school she cried her eyes out when leaving (runs in the family) lol.

Have my 12 week scan tomorrow (even though I'm only going to be 11 weeks) and my nuchal and MW apt all on the same day. So fingers crossed that everything goes ok and little bean is healthy.

I was looking at the March thread and they've all started putting their weeks+days at the bottom of each post... I think it's a good idea any takers?

10weeks+6

twinkle183 · 18/09/2006 11:37

Hi ladies... Sorry haven't posted for a while!! Welcome to all the newcomers I hope you all have happy and healthy pregnancies!!!

Thanks PeaJay, I didn't realise that!! I thought it was 26wks but I am glad that you posted that message as I have a EDD of 7/4/07, that means I would qualify for the 39wks - thats great news!

I am now 11+2wks and can't wait until Saturday when I will be finally 12wks!!! Have finally got my scan date for 22nd September - can't wait am so looking forward to getting some reasurance that everything is okay!

Does anyone else get worried whether things are going okay or not?

Greengirlforever · 18/09/2006 11:50

I might do another NCT group as I'm in a new area and I have also found them a wonderful way of making friends. Feel a bit of a fraud as it's my third though... Even if they do all turn out to be compete nightmares it can be a great source of amusement....

Definitely a good idea to put our weeks+days Bubblez - only way I'll keep track of mine!

10.1 (ie exactly 10!) weeks today.

CornflakeKid · 18/09/2006 11:51

twinkle183 - yes! Despite having had a scan - my ramblings about relatives and kitchens they are distraction techniques because otherwise would just sit and worry all day about baby - do you think those doppler things you can buy to use at home are a good investment? would you just sit all day with it attached to your tummy? and do you think you would worry even more? hmm - as you can tell a bit bored today - going out after lunch!

CornflakeKid · 18/09/2006 11:53

10+0? (14/4)

Greengirlforever · 18/09/2006 11:55

Ok I give up with these bloody dates! At my dating scan last week I was told I was 9.3 on 13/9 and she said my due date was 10 April! So what I am now then??

CornflakeKid · 18/09/2006 11:57

snigger GGF - who blimin knows - maybe mine is wrong! Need a calender thingy - can you have those ticker things on mumsnet?

Bramshott · 18/09/2006 11:58

I am due 8 April, and was 11 weeks yesterday (does that make me 11+1 or 11+2 today?) so you should be two days behind me I think?

Greengirlforever · 18/09/2006 11:59

Ok this is getting even more confusing now.....
