ChineseFireball Thank you :) I sent you login info on FB let me know if it doesn't work

blizy · 12/07/2014 21:19

Exciting stuff katniss, what pram did you choose?

phoebs88 · 12/07/2014 21:31

Ooh yes, what pram have you chosen Katniss?

We bought a 'I heart NY' teddy for baby as their first teddy - technically it was his first hol and we got engaged over there at the same time. And also it was super cute!

Starbright24 · 12/07/2014 21:34

I could only find red hering maternity wear at debenhams today. I bought some jeans anyway :) I don't look like a blob as much.

RPopz · 12/07/2014 21:50

Ooh yes Kat what pram you got? I looked at some in Mamas and Papas this aft and nearly had a small breakdown!!

Aghaidh · 12/07/2014 21:51

Hi all, ok if I join? I'm 13+2, and have been lurking on these threads since May, but only feeling ok to join now after the scans! I had a good nuchal result, however my PAPP-A was a bit on the low side (0.32 MoM). The dr said that it may cause issues with the placenta in the third trimester, but that my levels were just above the limit where they'd recommend extra monitoring. Anyone else ever experience this? I did some googling, but that was probably a mistake!

ChineseFireball · 12/07/2014 22:08

Hello Aghaidh and welcome :) You're right - googling in a medical fashion is never a good idea!

Right you 'orrible lot . If you want to join the FB group you can send a friend request to Jan Babies. I can log in as Jan Babies and then I can add you to the group. I will attempt to log in at least once per day.

Alternatively if you can't find Jan Babies then send me a PM on here and I will send you the link to my own profile and if you add me as a friend I will add you to the group. I think I can do that. And if it turns out I can't, well, I will come up with some alternative FB magic. 'K?

Cool beanz.

I've chosen the Graco Sky in sea pine. I pushed nearly every single one in the shops, and it was my favourite but the huuuuge shopping basket and coffee cup holders sealed the deal! RPopz, the choice is overwhelming isn't it?! Kiddicare is just packed floor to ceiling with them.

phoebs, that's so sweet!

Hi Aghaidh, and welcome. I'm sure someone here will know something about that. Doctor Google is the most terrifying doctor ever, I always look stuff up and it seems so much worse.

RPopz · 12/07/2014 22:16

Maybe a actually getting my hands on one would help Kat ... I usually just stand and stare dumbly haha! I need something small and light and foldable (pram holy grail presumably) as I don't drive so will be hopping on and off buses with it!

Rachybu · 12/07/2014 22:17

Hi all. I'm new to all this, but would like to join you all please! I'm only just feeling confident enough to join things as got preg via IVF and am a 1st timer. But have now had an 11+4 scan and all seems to be going well - phew! It was, however too early for unchallenged etc testing, so am getting a (bonus) extra scan in 2 weeks! Fingers crossed for that... Looking forward to being a part of this Smile

ChineseFireball · 12/07/2014 22:21

Katniss Kiddicare is awesome isn't it?! It's my first port of call for almost everything now. Although I bought our car seat and pram from Amazon (according to an AIBU thread that means I have no morals but that's a different story) because they were cheaper on there individually than the buy them together deal in Kiddicare. I'm off to google your pram now so I can be jealous :D

KatnissEvermean · 12/07/2014 22:36

RPopz, that's why I liked that one as well, it is really light and folds up one handed. I am hoping to pass my driving test and get a car before the baby arrives, but I'll be bussing it otherwise. I liked the look of a Silver Cross one in a catalogue, but in real life they were so heavy, we didn't like them at all.

Chinese, it is amazing but so big! We ended up getting a deal with a car seat from Babies R Us though. Which car seat and pram did you get? (I also use evil tax dodging Amazon)

Hi Rachy, welcome and congratulations!

rumisyum · 12/07/2014 22:50

Burritos... mmm... now I'm hungry & it's my bedtime.

What's this kiddicare store? Sounds a useful sort of place. I'm so impressed with you guys who've bought things already, I don't even know where to begin with baby things! Like Moses baskets look so cute, but might it be more practical to get one of those bedside cot things so you don't actually have to get out of your own bed to fetch baby for night feeds? (I am so lazy.) Colour me clueless about this sort of thing - thank goodness there a few more months to try to get my head round it.

Sent round an invitation for a party we're having next month to celebrate DH's birthday/imminent parenthood to all the friends we've not yet managed to tell in person about the pregnancy, so I'm officially OUT. Woot! Kind of scary, but exciting too.

rumisyum · 12/07/2014 23:01

Hello, Rachy, and congratulations! We were just starting IVF when I found out I was pregnant - still blindsided by the news to be honest. Hopefully we all start to feel much more confident about things before the little ones actually arrive. (Little chance of that here, I reckon. Grin)

ViviPru · 12/07/2014 23:10

I'm a total sinner when it comes to Amazon. I pay for Prime and must have about at least one delivery a week, usually more.

Rum I've got the impression from what I've read and heard first hand that Moses baskets can often be a bit of a waste of time, quickly outgrown and more style over substance. When I told my sister (whose DD is 14mo) about bedside co-sleepers and how we intend to get a Snüzpod, she was enraged that she hadn't known about them when my DN was tiny as they sounded like such a genius solution, she found the Moses basket a PITA.

Squish's review is good but there's masses of positives all over the internet for all the various co-sleeper cribs... It's the one thing I'm totally sold on...

Aghaidh · 12/07/2014 23:22

Thanks for the welcome and reassurances! I know I need to leave google alone :-)
Really interesting to hear people buying baby gear now - I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that there is an actual baby in there! Don't think I'm going to start buying for a couple of months yet. Will have to revisit this thread then for tips

blizy · 12/07/2014 23:25

Viv, I think we are set on the snuzpodoo. How did the big reveal go?

Hi and welcome to Aghaidh and Rach.

Loobyloo893 · 13/07/2014 05:42

Morning all. DS decided 5.15 was a good time to get up this morning! It's going to be a looooong day.

We still have all the big things we need from DS (pram, furniture etc ) so don't need to buy much at all really. Im hoping this ones a girl so I have an excuse to shop for clothes at least Grin

Hope you all have a nice day.

Katnisa we got a quinny zapp xtra 2 and a cabriofix. The quinny has a ridiculous tiny basket so I may regret it but it's also quite small and folds down ok. The car seat fits on the chassis which our last one didn't and it appears every single other pram/seat combination available on the market other than the one we bought does (I failed to research sufficiently). Will see how we get on. We have everything else still from last time too so I'm treating myself to a nice changing bag. There's a pink lining one with green dragonflies on it that I really quite like... Grin

Rum look on the interweb for kiddicare. You will not regret it I promise. There are a few stores about (I can't remember where you are but there is definitely one near birmingham and one near Peterborough) but you can order online and they do free next day delivery with orders over £30ish. Otherwise it's a delivery charge. But the delivery is with DPD so you get a text telling you what time they are going to deliver (an hour long slot) and you can track it online. Also you can choose to change your delivery date or time if the one allocated isn't convenient. They do their own brand stuff which is perfectly fine quality and loads cheaper than a lot of places. Mattresses for cot/moses basket etc are a good price. Also the gro-bag style sleeping bags - gro bag ones are £20+ but kiddicare ones are a tenner. They wash fine and are lovely and soft. They are owned by Morrisons I think.

Hello to Ruthy too. Congratulations and happy chatting!

Yesterday we cleared out the garage and today we are tackling the loft but for now I am lying in bed listening to DS chatter to himself in his bedroom waiting for Mister Sun to come up on his gro clock. When it goes quiet I shall probably have to get up though... Grin Happy Sunday ladies!

Oooh and hearing that there are other naughty tax dodge supporters here...If you sign up for amazon family you can buy nappies on a recurring subscription for monthly delivery at a massively reduced price. I mean massively. Given that a baby can easily get through 8-10 nappies a day to start with it's worth shopping around to get the cheapest deal! Obvs this is for disposables - if you want washable ones there are loads on preloved pages on fb and your local council may well offer you money off if you are buying new ones from a recommended supplier so worth checking that too. Most places I think have a nappy lady (she is actually called that!) who can help you out. Also worth finding out about your local sling library if you're considering babywearing.

Lecture over...Blush

Starbright24 · 13/07/2014 07:18

I've really got to make a list of what is needed at some point!

RPopz · 13/07/2014 07:43

Snap Star!! Am being uncharacteristically disorganised!!

Bummer about moses baskets Sad I love them but sounds like they're not really worth it! Except for cuteness factor... Also love the idea of cosleeping even though its a bit contentious. Whats a snuzpod??

RPopz · 13/07/2014 07:45

Oh and I am an amazon monster too Wink A friend gave me the heads up years ago about their super cheap nappies!!

CallingAllEngels · 13/07/2014 08:38

Morning all!

Missed a lot of chatter.

Bit confused about the fb...jan babies comes up as a person and not a group? All the other MN linked fb groups I'm on have been a secret group so you have to be invited by email or by a friend who's already a member. Aren't you all outing yourself? Plus would not want posts t o be on my timeline /in others news feeds. I am being open with people I see irl and my close family and friends but since I'm overseas, lots of acquantainces still don't know.

Told some of DH's friends yesterday at a birthday party...well, didn't need to tell them - pretty obvious from looking at me!

Sod's law I have a verruca and can't use the stuff I wiuld usually use to zap it as "not suitable if pg or bf" Hmm so trying a mn remedy of cider vinegar soaked cotton wool. Will see if it works!

We have almost everything we need from dc1. Just signing up for my free baby boxes (from mothercare, boots, superdrug equivalents here in NL). Last time there were a few useful bits. Will also pick up boots stuff when in uk..lasttime we got a handy change bag.

I know a lot of people who bought a moses basket for their 2nd dc as they wanted something new, but most sold as nearly new as hardly used and dc growsmout of so quickly. We don't have room for that much stuff in our house! In fact, m y mission this summer is to declutter so we can get baby room set up (atm is old office, but we're in the process of moving that into converted loft).

chinese amazed you managed to tackle garage in one day! We gutted cellar over Christmas then repainted and put up shelves so we have a good storage space there, but loft is very disorganised and garage is rammed with rubbish (though dh would beg to differ!).
