Jan Babies is a fake account someone set up to invite people to the secret group. You can add them and then they add you to the group. Or just pm any of us and we'll add you. I never had to friend Jan Babies Wink

cheshirem2b · 13/07/2014 08:45

Morning all!
My Nan wants to buy us a moses basket so can't refuse really. It will go in the lounge for the day time I think. Dh mum and dad are buying cotbed and my parents want to buy travel system so all we need to get (of big ticket items) is co-sleeper!
We are really lucky.
Busy day today so I better get out of my pit! Hope you all have a good day!

CallingAllEngels · 13/07/2014 09:00

Thanks rpopz will pm later for an email invite.

Time to start packing for holiday!

If someone wanted to buy me a moses basket I wouldn't say no cheshire ! We have a play pen for the lounge. DS slept in it quite a bit in the early days but not sure if that will work for dc2 with a toddler running around.

phoebs88 · 13/07/2014 09:38

Oooh thank you for the heads up re amazon and nappies!

One sleep to go until scan, arg!!

I started making baby announcement cards last night- we are telling people next weekend. As we've just got engaged, I've done them as 'save the date' cards - on the outside it will say the date etc as if it's our wedding date, but then on the inside we will put a copy of the scan pic. Can't wait to see peoples faces!!

missdonsol · 13/07/2014 09:46

We did something similar with our announcement phoebs. Put a scan pic inside the card and wrote 'wedding postponed due to third party interference'. Faces were a picture when they opened the card. Great moment followed by lots of shocked but happy hugs.

Minibagel · 13/07/2014 09:47

We have a moses basket from ds1 and he had it til 5 months for all day and night time sleeps and he is 91st centile for height so a big baby. It was definitely worth it for us as light for carrying up/down stairs, breathable so safe for baby, but we had friends say their babies didn't always like them. We didn't give him a choice I suppose. It was right by my side of the bed so very easy for picking them up without getting out of bed for feeds. If you end up ff (as statistically the majority do in the uk) you have to get up for making/fetching bottles anyway.

I've heard of friends adapting normal cots for co sleeping in the early days and then putting the side back on when fewer night feeds are needed or when they go into their own room. Cheaper than a side by side cot designed for co sleeping.

14weeks today!

Minibagel · 13/07/2014 09:50

Love that announcement idea phoebs and miss! So cute, I'd love to hear the news that way.

phoebs88 · 13/07/2014 09:54

Mini, that's what we're planning to do - adapting a cheapish Kiddicare crib into a cosleeper. Should cost us less than £50 incl mattress which is a bit more reasonable than the £100+ for actual cosleepers.

RPopz · 13/07/2014 10:42

I've been looking at the bednest which you can rent for 6 months for £99. I'm thinking we will do that, saves buying a cot for a bit. We will prob still end up with a moses basket for downstairs or whatever as my Mum has been "just looking" at them haha. Mr Rpopz is not quite on board with cosleeping as his friends have been filling his head full of "helpful advice" such as: "the baby needs to learn to be on its own straight away - like the dog did" ... Hmm

Those save the dates sound amazing!! I bet there will be tears!! Smile

Saraswati · 13/07/2014 10:50

Morning all,

I've missed loads! I went out in London fri night then all afternoon and evening yesterday I was at a hen do. It wasn't too raucous so I didnt miss drinking and got to talk babies a lot :) I made it until midnight then I had to go home which was pretty good going for me! I'm feeling it this morning though.

I'm not bothering with a Moses basket, going to put baby in a cot in a sleepyhead which I've heard are good. I might put it straight in the nursery (controversial!) but I'll sleep in the rocking chair/on the floor while it's weeny. I'm the sort of person who can sleep anywhere! I'm going to get one of those monitors with the mat thing too so we can be extra safe. DH works long hours and I want the baby to be in it's own room early as possible so DH can rest when he's got work. I find sleeping in the day easy too so I'll catch up with daytime naps. My friend is doing this and it's working well. Our nursery is right next to our bedroom anyway so it'll be fine I think.

16+2 :)

rumisyum · 13/07/2014 10:51

Thanks for the ideas on Moses baskets. And Viv that's super useful about the Snuzpod - thanks! I'd stumbled across that one & liked the look of it. The idea of adapting a normal crib is a really good one too, but depends on how much room you have, I'd guess? Where we live now is quite small, & we'd never fit a normal crib in next to our bed. But we're planning to move before baby arrives (HEADACHE) so we'll have to see what our new place looks like. Also, I think my in-laws have a bunch of old baby stuff from when DH & his siblings were little still up in their loft! So we need to check it out & see what we can raid before we decide what to buy. Oof.

Chinese I googled Kiddicare & it looks amazing. There's one near our in-laws, so I think we'll combine a loft-raiding session with a trip there one fine weekend soon. And keep the lectures coming! As a first-timer I'm keen for all the pro-tips! Wink

Calling I've been curious about those free baby packs from Boots, etc. I'm wary that I might be just signing myself up for untold amounts of marketing spam. Is the amount of useful stuff in them worth it?

phoebs and miss that sounds like such a lovely way to announce your pregnancies. Smile

Saraswati · 13/07/2014 10:54

Forgot to say I got two new books this weekend - mindful hynobirthing (from mindful mamma course) and the gentle birth method, ill report back when I've read them!

rumisyum · 13/07/2014 10:59

Ooh, the sleepyhead. Another thing I've never heard of that looks quite good. Lots to think about!

Let us know how you get on with those books saras.

CallingAllEngels · 13/07/2014 11:23

Think as well as the free change bag we got an avent bottle and some wipes. Don't get too much boots mail, just signed up that I was pg with my advantage card at one of the instore machines and got vouchers for various things.

With ds I did not co-sleep. He spent one night in our bed and I was petrified the whole night. After 3 weeks we moved him into his room (next door) which worked better for us. Istarted sleep talking and rocking the baby when he was snuffling at the end of the bed. Only ever happens when I'm stressed. As soon as he went next door, DH and I both slept much better (he was back at work after less than 2 weeks) and my radar was tuned into ds waking. I'd feed him in comfy chair in his room (had babyphone by my head as well).

Though we did end up co-sleeping for 6 months from 2-2.6 years but not out of choice...had massive sleep regression and 6 months of zombie like sleep deprivation.

Well that was a lovely weekend. SILs and families all v. Thrilled at our news. Incredibly, pregnant SILs EDD was brought forward 6 days at her
scan, same as mine was so our LMP dates and scan EDDs are both one day after the other!

Pils are shellshocked, in a good way. I've always got on well with pregnant SIL but perhaps not as close as DHs other sister just because we've spent less time with them. But by the end if today we were chatting away thick as thieves about maternity jeans and pregnancy yoga. She's invited me to join her class when we're next down south. Everyone just kept shaking their heads and saying "it's so amazing we can't believe it!" All weekend Grin

rumisyum · 13/07/2014 16:35

Aww, Pru that sounds amazing! How fabulous for your family & lovely for you & your SIL.

Boots vouchers sound ace, I'll definitely sign up for those!

Mad I like the sound of the bed nest. That sounds like it would suit us.

Right, DH came home with a massive box of cherries. I guess that's my cue to go make some clafoutis!

ViviPru · 13/07/2014 16:58

clafoutis thanks, Rum it's all the sweeter now it transpires what a rough ride SIL has had with MC, chemicals and general TTC stress. So SO happy for her Grin

Swifey · 13/07/2014 17:21

Hello everyone, I'm afraid I am going to have to bow out of the thread, but wish all of you all the luck in the world
I have just had our nifty 12 week scan, only to find an empty gestation sac. Feel devastated, have been told we have 3 options: leave it and let my body miscarry naturally (they have no idea how long that will take), take some drugs that will make me miscarry or have an operation. So sad, my body still thinks I pregnant, do lots of sickness and quite a bump.

LadyCottington · 13/07/2014 17:23

I get lazy about checking up on you lot, and this thread explodes! Bloody hell, just read through about 20 pages. Can't believe I missed talking about names!

Really sorry to hear your news, MademoiselleG. I can't imagine what you're going through and I'm sending you lots of Thanks and Brew

And I'm really glad for your cvs results KeepOnPloddingOn Grin

I've been guilted into buying the Tracy Anderson pregnancy DVDs off of ebay! My DH has been at me for ages to get back into exercising, and after reading about how good some of you are I thought it was time to get off my butt! I was looking at joining a yoga class here but the only one is in the next town over and is on a Monday morning when I'm working Hmm

But... we're moving to Bristol! Grin My DH got a new job and we're so excited. No more living in the middle of nowhere and I get to go to actual shops and good restaurants. Can you tell I don't like where we are? I was a bit worried with work, announcing I was pregnant and then asking for a transfer, but so far they are being ok about it. Apparently they 'don't want to lose me from the business'. I think they're a bit scared I'll scream discrimination to be honest.

Anyway, I've messaged to Jan babies thingy to get added to the group, so hopefully I can catch up some more.

CallingAllEngels · 13/07/2014 17:25

Oh swifey I'm so sorry. Take care of yourself.
