in other news, while all the sane parents-to-be are considering the relative merits of travel systems and non-toxic nursery paint formulations, We've just spanked a wedge on a new mega-tent. Hurrah! Parenting the 'Pru way....

Oh Mad what fabulous news! The risk factor must be such a huge relief. I can't believe Mini-Mad was actually sucking his thumb like an ACTUAL PERSON. It's all too much!

Can't wait to hear about your DS's reaction.

LulusMiniEgg · 24/06/2014 11:33

Wow wee! That is so exciting! And that he was sucking his thumb, so cute!

Does no one else have their downs results yet? We were told at scan - 1/4101!

j200 · 24/06/2014 11:36

Oh Mads that's amazing so happy for you Smile Xx

Welshwabbit · 24/06/2014 11:37

Lulu and Madrigals, congratulations on your scans. I am glad you mentioned getting your Downs risk after your scan, Lulu - I was sure we got ours immediately last time round, and was a bit surprised that everyone seemed to be getting theirs later. Perhaps it just depends on the hospital. I've got my scan tomorrow so am hoping for good news. I am also hoping that my due date will be pushed back from current 31/12/14(!) because I was totally unsure about my LMP dates, and therefore gave what I thought was the earliest possible. Knowing me I will probably have got that wrong, though...

j200 · 24/06/2014 11:38

Lulu did you have combined result with bloods too? I know my nuchal measurement was 1.4 which is normal but he said I have to wait for combined result

Welshwabbit · 24/06/2014 11:38

Sorry, that should have been j200 as well!

ViviPru · 24/06/2014 11:44

Yes we only got nuchal measurement and bloods taken at scan too, no risk calculations and it was all a bit vague as to when we would be getting combined result.... that was about a week and a half ago and no word yet...

LulusMiniEgg · 24/06/2014 11:52

Yes scan combined with bloods. At my hospital they take blood a week before your scan to use for the nt and the other general blood tests then put it in a formula to calculate risk. Age only I was 1/579 but combined with measurements it increased to 1/4101. Your measurements put u in good stead j200 I would imagine.

Still not had booking appointment yet though! That's on sat morning. Every hospital is different I guess x

Saraswati · 24/06/2014 11:58

hoorah mad and j200 ! happy news all round, enjoy your day and bask in the happiness!!

I haven't had my combined results yet either, scan was a week ago. They said it takes 2 weeks but if it comes back high risk they usually call you within a few days so I'm hoping its all ok. Measurement was 1.5mm and my age risk was 1 in 1000 and something so unless they found something hideous in my blood i'm crossing my fingers its all ok.

vivi I really hope they work it out too, I was hoping they were going to have a baby soon (selfishly) as they live so close to us it would have been such fun. I feel so bad for bursting in their house last week and telling them about the baby, I had no idea things were that bad. We also haven't told DH's friend with brain tumour yet either, god knows how on earth we are going to approach that one :s

BethsBaba · 24/06/2014 13:16

Love hearing all the positive scan news. Scan date finally came for July 10th.
Any plus size mums to be had a scan yet? Had a nightmare last night they couldn't find the baby thanks to my tummy.
Also any others out there getting headaches with this heat? It's a new thing to me and is driving me round the bend. I'm always the first in the sun and lap it up but finding this to much. Although think it could be stress related to thanks to DH of 5 years deciding he wants a trial separation out of the blue yesterday Sad Angry Sad Sorry TMI. Any other mums doing this whole pregnancy thing alone?

ViviPru · 24/06/2014 13:32

Oh no Beths I'm really sorry to hear that about your DH. It's not TMI, it's what this thread is for, sharing the good stuff along with the crap.

lindamagoo · 24/06/2014 13:40

Beths don't you worry about them not being able to find baby at your scan, I was much bigger with my last pregnancy and they found him easily Smile As for your man, WTF! His timing isn't so good is it? I hope you are ok and you will be a fab mum regardless. My friend split up with her man before she found out she was pregnant and she's going it alone, come December she will have a 5 year old and a newborn and now that she's over the shock she's really excited Smile

BethsBaba · 24/06/2014 13:48

Thanks ViviPru and lindamagoo Not the best timing but my sister said she saw it coming for weeks. Ha maybe pregnancy has given me rose tinted glasses!!!

Re not finding baby on scan had put on tones of weight the last few years and this baby is much loved but also very unplanned event. The MW said if they can't get a good scan reading because of my "fuller tummy" I might need a vaginal scan. Eeeek !!!!

12+1

lindamagoo · 24/06/2014 14:05

Lol, the vaginal scan isn't too bad, bit strange but it's fine Smile

mummyk8 · 24/06/2014 14:09

Oh BethsBaba how awful. I hope you have some good friends and family around you. Although you don't need anyone else to make you a wonderful mother just yourself and whole lot of love and it sounds like you have that in buckets. I'm also having worries about my scan on Thursday thanks to my belly. Although I lost 7st last year, had piled the weight after a massive hernia and post op nerve damage a few years back. I'm left with a really unpleasant droopy tummy. This baby was also an unplanned surprise and I would really have liked to have been in better shape. That said it is what it is and I feel so blessed to be pregnant. As for vaginal scan / internal scan it really isn't as bad as it sound. I have had 2 so far this pregnancy due to bleeding. It's never pleasant having medical people poking around down there but it's nothing like a smear test or anything it's really simply and I was very comfortable throughout. Hope that puts you mind at rest. Good luck x

blizy · 24/06/2014 14:27

Oh BethsBaba. I'm sorry to hear that, I hope you have lots of RL support. Don't sorry about a vaginal scan, I've had a few and they really are fine.

I managed to lose 2 1/2 stone from Christmas, still another 2 to go. After dd was stillborn I piled on weight through comfort eating but had to lose it to qualify for IVF (which I didn't need).

Minibagel · 24/06/2014 14:56

Ok, so i'm only 11+1 but Im sitting here and I swear I feel the baby kicking about. I remember the same feeling from ds1, except I only knew for sure with him that that was what it was at 20w when I saw a little limb poke up through my skin!

Amazing.

Minibagel · 24/06/2014 15:02

It cant be the actual kicking, as the baby is too small but maybe the rebound effects of them kicking the amniotic fluid and that affecting nearby tissue?

cheshirem2b · 24/06/2014 15:05

Beth really sorry to hear about you and DH. Hope things work out for you.

Re plus size... I have raised BMI and had 12 week scan last week - all fine and baby was swimming and wriggling around and appeared very happy. They will find baby but the picture might not be a clear as someone who is a size 8 (IYSWIM)!
