Help needed... got a two-hour car journey in the morning to my Grandad's funeral. I don't get travel sick at all usually, but I've been feeling really queasy the last couple of days. Any tips for making the car journey less awful? DH is insisting on driving as he gets very anxious as a passenger (I swear it's not my driving), so I can't be driver to take my mind off it.

MademoiselleG · 24/06/2014 20:01

Agreed, beautiful colour. Blue would definitely be my choice too. Surely you're the one giving both so you ultimately decide?!

Going back to work tomorrow, asked my line manager to tell my department do they're not all confused about my strange mood... Been reading a lot about the defect they're suspecting and there's no way we would most certainly have a severely disabled child. The curse of having those tests is that you get a choice. And I don't know what to do...

MademoiselleG · 24/06/2014 20:02

MademoiselleG · 24/06/2014 20:03

Bloody hell: basically there's no way the child would be healthy, s/he will most certainly be severely disabled.

CallingAllEngels · 24/06/2014 20:05

Just catching up on thread. mademoiselle glad to hear you stayed off.

I know it's a very different situation but with my last mc I tried to carry on with school as if everything was okay and after a few hospital visits (and still feeling and looking pg - fat and nauseous - as my HCG was still climbing instead of dropping) I finally got the "all clear" (even though I wasn't allowed to ttc for another few months until everything was out of my system) and I actually emotionally collapsed and had to take a week off work because I'd held all my physical stress and emotions inside.

Don't rush back. Take the time you need over the next few weeks to deal with what's happening both physically and emotionally. School will cope. Your students and colleagues will cope. Your only job right now is to look after yourself. ((hugs)) x

CallingAllEngels · 24/06/2014 20:06

x-post mlle What a horrible situation you're in. Look after yourself. x

CallingAllEngels · 24/06/2014 20:09

windows open frenetic - fresh air always helps me.

I miss British chip shop chips poly - Dutch ones are not right (still yummy but in a very different way).

DH was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes today. Hopefully a wake up call for him that he needs to start doing some exercise, work on his belly and stop eating shit in the evenings as long as he doesn't try and interfere with my eating habits

barmybunting · 24/06/2014 20:10

Mademoiselle, I hope work goes ok tomorrow. Remember if you need to take more time, just tell your boss and do that. Your health and wellbeing come first in all of this, work will still be there afterwards.

I am sorry to hear how scary the defect sounds. What are you thinking about choices at the moment? Do you want to make up your mind for definite before your next scan, so if the problem is confirmed, you have made up your mind on next steps?
It is a very hard situation to have to face.

frenetic, if DH is driving I make him drive with all of the windows down and eat copious amounts of polo mints to keep the nausea at bay. Is there any way you could sleep? Or persuade DH to drive half of it, and be passenger for half so you have less time to feel sick? I hope tomorrow goes ok, I will be thinking of you.

Thank you re pram colour comments. I am going to tell my Mum that the Penis Dragon Ladies have decried that blue is fine! I have found different colour bits for it so if it is a girl, it can have a pink umbrella attached or something :). People always ask whether it is a girl or boy irrelevant of colour anyway, don't they?

Treaclepie19 · 24/06/2014 20:10

Spotti I loved Maleficent also!

Mademoiselle I am so sorry you are going through this xxx We are all here for you to talk or just listen.

I had chips tonight thanks to reading your posts earlier!

CallingAllEngels · 24/06/2014 20:13

barmy I think blue is fine for a boy or girl. Our pram is dark blue ( we didn't choose it, 2nd hand from DBIL and DSIL) and the smaller Maclaren we have, which we bought new (lighter and smaller) is grey/silver

PolytheneGirl · 24/06/2014 20:44

Is it legal to marry a bucket of chip shop curry sauce? Hmm

PolytheneGirl · 24/06/2014 20:48

Sorry to see that the outlook is so bleak at the moment Mlle. Would you mind me asking what condition it is? Obviously feel completely free not to answer.

Take it easy with work. They will understand if it is just too much and you need more time. All my thoughts are with you and your DH.

CallingAllEngels · 24/06/2014 20:49

I think it may be legal in some American states poly . Vegas trip coming on?? Grin

toots123 · 24/06/2014 20:50

Oh made cant imagine how your feeling about all this. Is it an amnio result your waiting on?
are they pretty sure they know the results?

stay off work as long as you need. Dont push yourself to go back x

PolytheneGirl · 24/06/2014 20:54

Do you think they have British chip shop curry sauce in Vegas or will I need to book it a seat on the plane?

RetroHippy · 24/06/2014 20:55

Tonight's dinner - two Sainsbo's posh fish cakes, cauliflower cheese and wilted spinach. And yes, I am only just eating. DH has gone out again. I am knackered and eating with a spoon and fork because there are no clean knives and I cba to wash up Angry

And I feel like if I put my foot down I'm being unreasonable. He's doing long days at work this week, Monday he was doing Charitable Things, today he's at the gym, tomorrow he's on a beer tasting thing that I know he's been looking forward to, but I just can't face another night of cooking for myself then sitting staring at the washing up. I actually want to cry just thinking about it.

I think because I'm not throwing up everywhere and I've been remarkably chipper for 1st tri, he doesn't realise I need a bit of extra tlc.

And so this post isn't all about me, barmy, I love the blue, and I totally agree that it's the nicest unisex option. It's gorgeous!

Tilly28 · 24/06/2014 21:33

Eeeekkk I might have just done a little bit of online shopping! My excuse is that I need some clothes that actually fit! :-) my belly is getting big already considering I'm on 12 weeks!

Exciting to hear about all the scan news! :-)

madmoiselle really sorry to hear your news, I really hope it isn't as bad as it first seemed :-( will keep my fingers crossed for you.

CallingAllEngels · 24/06/2014 21:36

I'm sure it will be easy enough to arrange a tourist visa poly and you can probably get a bassinet so it won't have to pay for it's own seat ponders likelihood of curry sauce being able to afford own seat or I deed have a passport

retro YANBU and there is a lot to be said for paper plates and plastic cutlery. Fuck it.

RIGHT I am definitely going to sleep now. Going to be a bastard of a day tomorrow.

PolytheneGirl · 24/06/2014 21:45

Lol Engels

FANCY I'm waiting on your tea time report! I'll be capping your grade if I don't get it tonight!

My cousin's wife only ever let the kids eat off paper plates and she always cooked in disposable foil trays because she hated washing up! Shock

RetroHippy · 24/06/2014 21:46

calling, I was seriously considering it till I realised we missed bin day three weeks ago and still have another week till collection and paper plates will just mean more rubbish overflowing into the kitchen.

freneticfox · 24/06/2014 22:24

Another vote for loving the blue, I'm totally not into the whole only one colour for one gender tradition.

I've discovered I can fight evening nausea by eating. Constantly. Even if it's tiny little nibbles, as long as it's constant. So I'm going to be enormous.

Knottyknitter · 24/06/2014 23:07

Gorgeous travelsystem in blue, but also like the purple, red and sand for either. Not fond of that sort of green for anything really.

DPmade me beans on toast tonight. Delicious if bit brilliantly nutritious!!

fancyacupoftea · 25/06/2014 00:16

What a night!! Just got in. Bloody school events. Turns out though that Becks Blue is my favourite of the non alcoholic beers.

I had cereal when I got home then lasagne at the school thing and it was soooo cheesy. Amazing. Love a good lasagne. Always better when someone else makes it too.

Barmy I know you've got enough answers already but I wouldn't listen to my advice about colours for prams and baby stuff as I'm the type of person to purposely buy pink shit for boys just to stick my fingers up at society. So yeah blue for a girl! I look alright in blue.

PolytheneGirl · 25/06/2014 05:26

Gggggaaaaahhhhh why does DS think 5am is an appropriate time to get up?

Although I feel a bit bad, he was just crying because I'm going to the hospital today to see the "baby doctor" and he seems to think I'm sending him to nursery school while "the doctor gets the baby out". This is going to be a very long 5 months for him!

CallingAllEngels · 25/06/2014 06:23

Oh God poly - I'm sure we're going to have to deal with these kind of commenets with DS as well eventually!

Have a good day everyone.
