Fancy that us absolute bollocks. The classes here are either over a couple if weekends with an evening session for bfeeding or they're all in the evening, 8-10pm 'because in London ppl finish work late'. Really odd. I found a refresher class and think we will sign up for that one. Already stressing about what will happen with dd when I go into labour as we have no family over here! I guess I have 7 months to hatch a plan...

Oh the miracles a good night's sleep can achieve, I feel like a different person today! (Mind you, I'm still in bed..!) happy Friday everyone, think I'm going to investigate this alcohol free prosecco situation Grin

toots123 · 20/06/2014 07:41

Happy Friday! Didnt get off to a great start. Im off today so was sleeping in. Dh shouts in "the cats brought a bird back and its alive" run downstairs and its a baby bird. I was crying by this point. Luckily it was still moving so after a quick google we locked the cat in and left the baby bird at the top of the garden. No later than ten minutes gone and the mum has collected her baby! Best possible outcome really.
Trying to give the cat a row but she doesnt know any better!!

anyway, off to midwife at 12 today then dh are going for the penis dragon enduced curry :)

Zermatt · 20/06/2014 07:55

That sounds very distressing Toots but glad the baby bird got back to her mum, so a happy ending.

Good luck at the midwife and enjoy your curry!

Knottyknitter · 20/06/2014 07:57

fancy the classes I've booked are two Saturdays and an evening.

You are allowed time off for antenatal classes though, but not convinced it can't be unpaid time off.

Knottyknitter · 20/06/2014 08:01

Oops. Premature postage!

I agree with the concensus Poly, get out of this arrangement now.

I got my Rota for August to November today. No nights in Dec, but need to check the weekends fit with nct as might have to swap them with someone. Lovely to have it sorted so early, usually a rush job on 3rd August!

fancyacupoftea · 20/06/2014 08:44

I am such a name snob. Think we've got out boys name but fuck knows about girls - they're so 'twee' a lot of them

PolytheneGirl · 20/06/2014 08:55

I already have a number 1 boy. I think well have to wait for DBro's little one to be born and named before we make a list. Last time we had a list then looked at DS and picked a name we'd never even considered.

I'm having a lie-in with DS. Heaven Smile

PolytheneGirl · 20/06/2014 09:01

DS just said to me "Mommy, I want to be a blues musician? please please, I really want to be a blues musician!" He's 3yo. I have no idea where he gets his information from Confused

Threnody · 20/06/2014 09:12

Hurrah for Friday! Reading back has made me hungry again - I am looking forward to my chicken chow mein tonight!

poly - sounds like you've been a fantastic friend, sorry you have got stuck in such a situation. Definitely time to get out of it!

Glad your scan was ok Bella.

Poly, toots - I have been wearing gloves while gardening, and washing my hands after playing with the cat - hoping they'll do a test to see if I've had toxoplasmosis or not.
The NHS site says to avoid all undercooked meat I think.

Thanks Zermatt! And have you been peeking at my list of names?!

Fancy that is stupid - but, you are entitled to paid time off work to attend antenatal care and classes - www.gov.uk/working-when-pregnant-your-rights

toots - oh no! Hate when our cat brings in birds or mice - always so upsetting, but he doesn't understand why we shout at him.

PolytheneGirl · 20/06/2014 09:23

I might ask for the toxoplasmosis blood test just to be sure. If it's that easy to pick up I'm sure I must've had it already!

freneticfox · 20/06/2014 09:25

fancy I had no idea that NCT classes existed. Had a quick scan of their website and all the classes in my area are either first thing in the morning or literally straight after when I'd finish work... so not really workable. Although I am interested in making friends; DH and I have only lived her a couple of years and we've still not managed to meet new people (thanks, busy jobs!)

Having a bit of a sour morning, it's my Grandad's funeral next Weds, and certain family members seem to only be interested in cracking open his will to see what they can get their paws on. Does anyone else find that incredibly crass?

PolytheneGirl · 20/06/2014 09:28

Here's the information I read about www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Toxoplasmosis/Pages/Causes.aspxToxoplasmosis
It also says you can get it from vegetables that have been in contact with contaminated soil.

PolytheneGirl · 20/06/2014 09:30

Balls that link isn't going to work! Try again!

www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Toxoplasmosis/Pages/Causes.aspxToxoplasmosis

PolytheneGirl · 20/06/2014 09:32

Grrrr it did it again!

Last go...

Toxoplasmosis

sazzlehopes · 20/06/2014 09:59

So food stuff...I'm being pretty relaxed about it all - rare steak and runny eggs and cheese etc so long as I've bought it, it's organic and I've eaten it at home. Otherwise out in cafes not sure how long they've had it for/what the quality is like etc. I'm only avoiding things that will actually harm the baby - vit a in pate and booze obvs.

Poly please tell your friend where to stick it. I actually cannot believe how much she has taken your kindness for granted. With being pregnant now you really don't need someone like that taking the piss with you.

Fancy i didn't do NCT but we would have never made an afternoon class that is crazy! My OH has a job where unless you give 8 weeks notice it is almost impossible to take time off!
I have a list i think of 'not too twee' girls name if you want me to share? I don't need them now!!!

Zermatt i love obsessing over names! 1 & 5 are lovely choices. And florence and Maltilda are my favs from your girl choices. If we had a girl I always liked no6 - Ava.

Now we know it is a boy - the list has cut in half and I think I have a top 5 if anyone would care to hear them?!!

Frenetic yes that is terribly crass - what an awful way to look at a life - to see 'what is left'.

Zermatt · 20/06/2014 10:06

I'd love to hear your top 5 Saz :)

Spotti · 20/06/2014 10:07

Re:names, I have always quite liked Jacob/Jake and Lucas/Luke BUT my dnephew is a Luke, Twilight have kinda stolen Jacob (still like it, just wouldn't want anyone constantly asking if I'd chosen it because of the book), Jake has been ruined for me by Baby Jake on Cbeebies (HATE that stupid goo goo ga ga song!!!), and I still like Lucas yep, even with the cervical Lucas thing we had on the conception boards Wink but it's a bit too close to Luke, so I'm pretty sure it's a no go. Kind of like Dylan, but Mr Spotti isn't too keen...

And for girls, I don't care what OH says, I like Harriet Faith. I think the only thing that would change my mind would be if I look at her and decide it doesn't suit...

Tbh I have a feeling that when the time comes, we will end up choosing a completely different name anyway than what we thought we'd decided upon!

OP posts:
Zermatt · 20/06/2014 10:15

Love Harriet Faith spotti and agree the associations with twilight books are off putting for Jacob. V annoying.

sazzlehopes · 20/06/2014 10:36

Ok my top 5 at the mo are: Ned, Otto, Ernst, Huxley and Easton. DS 1 is a Stanley.

Spotti Love Lucas, know a lovely one, and Luca too. Also know lovely Theo, Mylo...
I think Dylan is nice too, and Harriet.

I think I'm decided on a fave from the 5 but will wait til baby pops out to confirm and keep something a little surprise!

PolytheneGirl · 20/06/2014 10:41

I really like Jacob with Jake for short. I liked Noah and Nathan last time round but DH didn't like either. We had picked Ava Grace for a girl last time too but we know about 6 people who names their daughters Ava.

Harriet Faith is really nice Smile

Thanks for all of your support re: my "friend". I'm definitely going to start wrapping it up now. I've had him for the last 3 days, been taken the piss of and I'm exhausted. I wouldn't mind if I even got a thank you every so often but she really doesn't think about anyone but herself. It's just making me feel so angry now, I don't think our friendship will ever be the same again. Sad

PolytheneGirl · 20/06/2014 10:56

I wouldn't worry about the book/film connections. Our DS is Harry. We didn't really think it through in that way and someone once said to me it was a 9yo child "oh, like Harry Potter!". Obviously this was a huge oversight on our part but it is the only time it ever came up.

DH really likes Maggie for a girl this time but is worried about the Simpsons and Thatcher connections. I honestly don't think anybody is going to be thinking about these things when they look at your baby.

Zermatt · 20/06/2014 11:12

Is agree Poly. Once the baby is named and people know it of that name other associations immediately weaken. Love your DS name, total gorge.

I bought the book "no panic pregnancy" and it has told me that sushi is fine to eat, this makes me :)

freneticfox · 20/06/2014 11:23

So far every single family member we've told has said "oooh, when you get a pram you can keep it here, you can't have it in the house before baby is born!"

What the....?

PolytheneGirl · 20/06/2014 11:36

Thanks Zermat

Fox I think it's all to do with tempting fate. It's just supposed to be bad luck. Some people won't buy anything or keep anything for baby in the house until it's born. I think we'll start buying after the 20wk scan but we have most stuff already from #1.
