Scan went really well today. Baby very happy sitting up with legs and arms crossed, same as 12 week scan looking straight out, which means we got crap pictures, but at least we know IT'S A BOY!!! I'm happy, but I think DH was a little sad as he had his heart set on a girl.

Despite being very wriggly, at least all the measurements were done
Head - 46th percentile
Abdomen - 64th percentile
Femur - 83rd percentile

Looks like we've got a tall, stocky baby with a peanut head. Just like DH lol

MrsDowneyJunior · 01/07/2014 06:57

I have found a slightly wrong way to cure the almost constant headaches I've been getting - my vibrator! but not in the way imagined!!! pressing it around my eyebrows, forehead, nape of my neck and temples seems to really work. Probably giving myself brain damage but at least the headache goes!! Smile

weeonion · 01/07/2014 07:20

Hey ladydolly - hope yr having a fan holiday!
Brandsnob - great news on yr scan.

Any scanees today??

haventgotaclue1 · 01/07/2014 08:04

Morning all, agree completely with the fact that you burn much more easily now - currently on holiday in Cornwall and I don't normally burn, but am now looking quite pink! Blush.

Can anyone help me? I REALLY want a crab sandwich but can't work out if it's ok or not when you're pregnant...any feedback (especially stuff that says it's ok Grin would be much appreciated! Thanks.

MrsDowneyJunior · 01/07/2014 08:55

Honestly I think women in Japan still eat sushi, French women still eat soft cheese and pate, other cultures eat all sorts of things banned here, most of our mothers smoked, drank, ate everything they shouldn't and their mothers were on rations in the war. Really I think when it comes to a lot of stuff, as long as you source and prepare it well and use common sense you'll be ok.

Miskate · 01/07/2014 09:05

You shouldn't eat crab raw (apparently). You can definitely eat it cooked, but avoid it if you want to be extra vigilant, as you can't guarantee any food prepared for you by someone else has been cooked thoroughly! but if you're going to take things that cautiously you would also have to be making sure you avoid all food cooked in a deli/cafe/restaurant/takeaway setting. Also you probably shouldn't get in a car! or ride a horse! or leave the house!

Maybe don't mainline crab sticks from a supermarket petrol station (good advice in general).

I'm eating crab if it is cooked by me, or cooked in a nice restaurant, as a treat. I'm going to Cornwall on holiday next week, and I'll be eating crab every day goddammit!

I recommend everyone reads 'Expecting Better' by Emily Oster - she's a statistician who looked at all the hard facts behind pregnancy and labour and provides the data so you can make informed choices.

haventgotaclue1 · 01/07/2014 09:14

Thanks Mrs and Miskate! I know I'm getting paranoid now and you're both making a lot of sense. ..sometimes it's just good to have that bit of reassurance Smile
Guess what I'll be having for my lunch? ?? On thick granary bread and lots of cornish butter. .. Grin

Woman I work with remotely but see only every few weeks or so just came in to the office and said "ooh you're really putting on the weight now, aren't you!".

Lovely.

Miskate · 01/07/2014 09:35

Oh and the office toilet has broken and she just said I must have broken it with my extra weight!! I am raging!!

MrsDowneyJunior · 01/07/2014 09:44

Tell her one more comment and you'll sit on her. With not such a joking look on your face.

Annarose2014 · 01/07/2014 10:05

Fucking bitch. I have yet to figure out a good come back. I get a lot of comments as I work with constantly new people (patients) and I just say "It'd be a lot worse if I was too small...." Which in fairness does shut them up as they briefly contemplate what "too small" might mean.

But I haven't come up with any juicy zingers. You often can't insult people back cos you still have to deal with them!

Now that I'm 22 weeks I think my bump is (finally!) appropriate as its slowed down a bit. But I still get people asking when I'm due and going "Oh!" with suprise when I say November. So now I keep it vague and say "after the summer...."

Annarose2014 · 01/07/2014 10:08

By the way guys, I recently bought the "Once" facial sunscreen from Boots and its the greatest thing ever. I actually think it evens out my skintone! I don't even need make up when I use it.

It doesn't have that ghostly white cast but it does seem to have some diffusing properties - I don't know to be honest. But I actually look better, not worse, with it on. And its cheap! I was a LaRochePosay devotee for years, but this is much better stuff. No comparison.

TwigletFiend · 01/07/2014 10:24

Shock Miskate, tell her you're pregnant, what's her excuse?! Or even, 'Oh yes, I'm so glad it's healthy to put on weight during pregnancy, if I wasn't pregnant I'd feel like...' and give her the up and down eyeball. With a snide smile.

Or just sit on her. No warning. Just go for it. Grin

I'm having a rather stressful morning. My designer has upped and left the company I outsourced my marketing project too, so now have to go in and brief new designer and get him up to date and back on track before the deadline whooshes past. Plus DP failed to do anything useful at all this morning - I even gave options, damn it! 'Please would you either empty the dishwasher, put away the clean washing or put the wash from the machine on the line.' Now have two loads of washing to somehow do today while I'm at work, some of which is stuff I would have quite liked to wear on my holiday! Hmph. Men suck.

Weighed myself this morning and I am up to a whole 58kg. That's 1.5kg up on my pre-pregnancy weight. Given I lost a fair bit (about 8 or 9kg) through the MS period, I think that's pretty good. Argh, I wouldn't worry about it if the flipping hospital MW hadn't started making clucky noises and telling me off! Just shut up! Angry

MrsD, I am slightly worried about asking how you found out a vibrator makes good headache relief...? Grin

haven't, if you're happy it will have been stored/prepared in a hygienic fashion, go for it! I'm planning on eating plenty of seafood in Lanzarote!

Greenstone · 01/07/2014 10:24

Enjoy your holiday ladydolly and haven't and also Twiglet when it's your turn! I'm such an idiot, I got sunburnt at the weekend - in Ireland. We were out walking all day and it was cloudy in the morning and then suddenly just got really hot. And I got burnt around the neckline of my T-shirt and on my arms. This is after spending a week in the Canaries at the end of May and feeling smug about how careful I was with suncream. Now I have an official farmer's tan.

AnnaRose I'll keep an eye out for that - diffusing sounds great to me!

Miskate why why do people make such comments? WHY? Do not even attempt to laugh it off, if she does that again stay silent and give her a really fixed unimpressed look with your eyebrow pointedly raised. Sometimes that can scare people into shutting up.

ToniWol · 01/07/2014 13:04

Hi ladies

Looking forward to my scan later today. Am still only feeling fairly vague movements but I know blueberry's still kicking.

moggle · 01/07/2014 13:31

I've got mine on Friday morning, can't wait. Then we are going straight off for a weekend away in kent just the two of us (three of us I guess!).
I am starting to notice patterns in baby's activity. They're usually moving around when I wake up at about 7, then again at about 11, then late afternoon, and then in the evening when I'm on the sofa. Sometimes i get a weird crampy feeling, then my belly goes hard top to bottom- I swear it feels like the baby's standing up in there!!

blamber · 01/07/2014 14:21

Twiglet don't worry about the weight. I weighed myself last weekend and was so happy to have finally gained a kilo. I have a bump though, so not sure if I may have lost weight elsewhere in my body? Apart from the bump I still look the same though. As long as the baby is growing well and there is enough fluid etc!

Jealous of everyone going away. I'm not going anywhere Sad.

I'm feelin the kicks regularly now. Every hour I feel something. Does this baby ever sleep?

I have my scan on Friday and I can't wait. Will be joined by my boyfriend for the first time too so it'll be pretty special.

weeonion · 01/07/2014 14:22

toni - look forward to hearing all about it later.

Is next week the last for 20 week scans or are there any later ones??

i think some of us are having additional ones but that it us pretty much finished with scanning then????

Miskate · 01/07/2014 14:36

I've been in meetings all morning so couldn't come back and continue to vent my spleen re rude colleague. I just said "that's an incredibly rude thing to say" and left it at that. I didn't even laugh. TBF I do look a lot larger than usual and would say I definitely try to emphasize my bump rather than disguise it but JESUS. I would NEVER comment on someone's size, pregnant or not!

PopcornFrenzy · 01/07/2014 14:36

I've not been on here for a while, I have my 20 week scan tomorrow whuch I've very excited but scared about.

My stomach keeps going quite hard in places and I get the weird crampy feeling, then I feel a body part pressing against my stomach. While I love knowing that he or she is ok in there it still feels weird.

Has anyone got itchy nipples? The itch seems to move and I can't quite scratch it...

I spoke to my DP the other night about giving birth and I said I would like to do it on my own with no one in the room with me and he said that's fine and he'll look after DS so we're all sorted on that. I'll see at 36 week whether I'll be going for a home birth in which case DS will be in the same house but not room and DP will be elsewhere in the house. Has everyone else sorted birth plans/partners?

Petal26 · 01/07/2014 14:39

Good luck with scans ladies.

My friend was booked in for c-section today and her contractions started as she was getting ready to leave the house, baby must have known!! She's had her second girl (a surprise) I'm jealous that she has met her baby today ;-p!

weeonion · 01/07/2014 14:48

popcorn - hi there and nice to see you back! hope all goes well with scan tomorrow.

I think i am pretty well sorted with birth plan. a homebirth and have gone through ideas with doula and midwife. DP and i have talked about this role - i want him with me. I dont want too crowded a space and the mw knows that she is to keep a good distance ad only approach me to check what i want etc. We have also talked it all over with dd (aged 7).

I have also worked out what i want if have to transfer in for an emergency section in terms of skin to skin contact / cutting of cord / screen etc

I think my doula is going to be invaluable in all of this and dp is certainly much better clued in than last time!

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 01/07/2014 16:54

Hi all my 20wk school is next Wed at 19+6 can't wait to find out if girl or boy.

Trying to get a physio referral at mo for hip pain I had it last pregnancy it's bloody agony. Someone will eventually ring me back or not think trip to gp will be more successful.

ToniWol · 01/07/2014 17:45

Back home from the scan. All is looking well with Blueberry and due to the sonographer being a lady I do Guiding with I have some extra prints!
