Missing alcohol today, could do with a drink!

weeonion · 11/07/2014 22:57

Oh petal, that sounds pants. On other days, it wouldn't take a fizz out of you but can see on a hormonal day it would feel, rubbish. Xx

TwigletFiend · 12/07/2014 08:02

Petal, completely sympathise! I cried over laundry a couple if weeks ago. Was hanging out laundry DP was meant to have done that morning, was in my short lunch break from work so was rushing like mad, bent over to grab next bit and was hideously sick all over the clean washing! I just stood there and cried too, at the time it just mad end feel so defeated! Hugs for you!

TwigletFiend · 12/07/2014 08:03

Or 'made me', even Hmm

Alita7 · 12/07/2014 09:05

Aw Petal that sounds difficult :( I hope today's better! That's the sort of thing that would make me cry atm too!

Mrs Dj I totally get that which is why I'm so desperate to change my name :p I want ds to have the same name as his Dad and sisters but I also want him to have the same name as me. There's no point double barrelling as I intended to take his name when we eventually get married anyway so then he'd be the only one with my name as wel! and they sound silly together.

Strawberry I think I'd do double barrelled in your case too!

Morning Ladies

Been away front the thread for a while.

Had my 22 week Consultant/midwife appointment yesterday. Everything went well to a point. They gave me another scan, so I got to see my Jellybean again. Blissfully happy sucking his thumb. I left feeling a but shellshocked as the Consultant has decided to take me off the caesarean list as apparently he initially misunderstood my medical issues and they are no longer relevant Hmm. Just waiting on the opinion of the anaesthetist who I'm seeing in August. It took me a while to accept having a caesarean, but now that's all up in the air Confused

Congrats to those I've missed with happy scans and Ellie on you engagement.

FTMK · 12/07/2014 10:59

Also been away for a while - Family visitors and the Tour de France and busy this week at work. Congratulations to all on scan and engagement news. Scan was 10 days ago and all good - still a surprise here. Relieved that all measurements were on the middle of the chart as DP has huge head, however sonographer did say that you tended to get more differences in measurement after 30 week so still might have to contend with big head for birth!

Petal I too had a hormonal meltdown at work yesterday - too much to do before end of term and no time to do it. Was just teary all day on and off and feeling a bit overwhelmed with the amount to do. Not like me to cry though so probably hormones in overdrive which makes me feel a bit daft! Doesn't help that I've got bursitis in both hips which makes side sleeping painful so I'm waking up a lot.

Brandsnob - sounds unsettling to have your plans changed when you'd got your head round one thing. Annoying to have to wait until August for a definite answer as well. Nice to see bean again though!

Hope everyone's enjoying some sunshine - that is something that's making me fancy a glass of something cool and alcoholic....

BrandSnob · 12/07/2014 11:37

That sounds like a very good idea FTMK! I really fancy a Mojito today so a non-alcoholic one will have to do. Along with something sweet, cakey and calorific!

One good thing about yesterday I forgot to mention. I had a hormonal about to cry moan at a midwife yesterday about the lack of antenatal classes in the area and the hospitals's stupid postcode policy and I managed to get accepted on a course starting on 7 Oct Grin. Maybe having my mum beside me with a face like thunder was enough to swing things lol

FTMK · 12/07/2014 17:47

That's good Brand. I just sorted the NHS class and we are also doing NCT classes. I'm not sure how I'll find the NCT (especially having seen Daragh O'Briain's comedy routine on them) but I'm hoping to meet people. I'm just about to open an alcohol free beer - although I do have a mock tail in the fridge....

Pixiepearl · 12/07/2014 17:51

Hi all

Can I please join your thread? I am 20 weeks pregnant, first baby and booked into Whipps Cross. I am absolutely terrified and so far have had a pretty terrible experience with the hospital and with the midwives - unbelievably rude, messed up appointments, five minute appointment (when I finally got one), wouldn't answer any of my Qs referring me to the 'notes' and the internet?!

I have no choice in terms of hospital due to where I live but I so worried about having to continue my care there. I don't want to bring aby

Pixiepearl · 12/07/2014 17:52

So sorry. Posted too soon!

Don't want to bring anyone down but was hoping someone could share more positive experiences of Whipps? Would really appreciate any additional info.

Thank you

amy83firsttimer · 12/07/2014 19:34

Welcome aboard. No knowledge of that hospital but sure someone else will know it. Are you new to Mumsnet altogether or just this thread?

weeonion · 12/07/2014 20:12

Hi pixie. You might be safer posting on main mumsnet forum about yr hospital - possibly more likely to get a reply? There are relatively small numbers on this thread and not if anyone is also going to whipps cross. What is yr due date??

Pixiepearl · 12/07/2014 20:23

Hi Amy and Weeonion. Thank you for replying. Am new to everything so will post on new forum as advised. Had spotted a few people on here from my part of London. Not sure how this all works - pregnancy, mumsnet, everything! Due at the end of November. Having 20 week scan on Monday. Thank you again for replying.

blamber · 12/07/2014 21:04

I'm not sure about changing your name by deed poll. You'll still be a miss, not a mrs, so wouldn't that look weird with the same surname as your boyfriend? Also, if you do get married you'll have the same name on the marriage certificate like you're marrying family!

I also wish you could get civil partnership as a heterosexual couple. Less loaded than marriage.

I didn't think having a different name would cause problems at the airport though, as an eu member. I'm not from the uk and never considered this. I wouldn't double-barrel my baby's name either though, because I hate my name!

blamber · 12/07/2014 21:08

I had a blood test to check thyroid and iron levels and saw the consultant about the results. He said everything was fine - TSH was 1.3 and iron was ok (didn't say the level). But the day after I got a letter from the midwife saying I was slightly anaemic! Strange the consultant didn't think so.

I'm now prescribed iron tablets but I also got spatone cause I heard those tablets can cause constipation and I already have enough of that!

utopian99 · 12/07/2014 22:15

Hi pixie where do you live? We're Walthamstow/lloyd park and I confess after reading about whipps cross we asked to go to Homerton; they were perfectly happy with it though, so you could ask? I don't think it's too late to change? Sorry not to be of more help - the receptionist at our dr said she'd had hers in whipps cross though and was happy there..

Homerton is 25 minutes from us though and ds was born fast. Two separate midwives have now told me with this one to go to hospital when contractions get to 10 minutes gap, and on no account to wait for 3 minute ones. Eep!

PosyFossilsShoes · 12/07/2014 22:27

Blamber & others - the Peter Tatchell Foundation is campaigning hard for mixed-sex civil partnerships and they have a case awaiting a decision at the European Court of Human Rights so hopefully you should get the option soon!

I've had a lovely lovely cuddle from my 3 week old nephew today and feeling super optimistic about my ability to look after one of my own now. :)

weeonion · 12/07/2014 22:34

Ta posy- lets hope test case goes through. U enjoy those newborn cuddles???? :-)

Alita7 · 12/07/2014 22:53

Welcome pixie :)

Hmm blamber I had a Google and apparently you can put Mrs or Miss or whatever you want on things - posy might know if this is true?

It might look weird on the marriage certificate that's true, I'll have a think about that, it's not the end of the world though is it, they have your parents names on your marriage certificate don't they?

OP posts:
Alita7 · 12/07/2014 22:56

Also I'm sure there are some people out there who end up finding someone who just happens to have the same surname. I'll have a think and discuss with dp.

Thanks for the hugs ladies, had a better day today :-)
twiglet I would have cried being sick over the washing too!
Hope you've had a better day today FTMK
We went kitchen shopping this morning, hoping to extend kitchen/diner with a conservatory so hoping to get it all done before November and have a bit more space. Might be taking on too much.... Optimistic though!

Pixiepearl · 12/07/2014 23:08

Hi Utopian. Thank you. We live in Barkingside. Homerton is too far really. King George would have been our local, but unit closed down (!!). Care for all those who would have come under KG now split between Queens (in special measures and too far) and Whipps. I am just going to roll with it I think.Thousands of other women are all being cared for by Whipps. And people do tend to write about the bad but not mention the good !!! I did ask the midwife about possibility of Queens, but she told me there was no bed for me there, it wasn't possible to change and then she tapped her watch and said she had people waiting... I wasn't filled with confidence

Petal26 · 12/07/2014 23:10

alita I know 2 'Davis' that married each other. We called the woman 'Davis Davis' once they were married :-)

weeonion · 13/07/2014 00:19

Just ordered this for l'il green socks www.bednest.com/Reviews

We had this amby.co.uk/ for DD but want to make breastfeeding as easy as possible and not have to get out of bed!

For the past weekend - I have been up ladders, balancing on window sills, painting walls / ceilings, dragging wardrobes and shelving units around.

The piles of "stuff" in this flat is growing but I am determined to have a nursery of sorts by the end of next week. my pal is giving us back all the baby stuff so we need to have nursery to store it in! Even if it does mean that we shuffle through temporary corridors of space til it is all assimilated into flat. I want to keep a futon in the nursery - when dd was in her own room and on nights she wasnt too well / very unsettled it was an absolute blessing.

Argh - so much to do and sort out. 25 weeks pg now and want it all done for end sept so i can focus on L'il green socks more.....
