Miskate I'm definately going to try to wear my ordinary jeans tomorrow. Screw this!

I'm also cranky cos I missed Dolly on telly. I saw her in concert this year and her voice live was AMAZING. Just gave you shivers!

MrsDowneyJunior · 29/06/2014 22:13

onion the food poisoning passed in about 48 hours, spoke to my mw and a GP and they all said longer than that then go in but up to then it's ok. And the night out was OK, she was cringing and refused to go to our usual, but by the end of the night when she'd had a few drinks she was on my lap getting a life because her shoes hurt! typical!!

Strawberryfield12 · 29/06/2014 22:14

Will do so. Also realised that the samphire ban comes mainly from US based websites and they talk about it more like a medicine not food. Probably they just dont have it there and therefore warn against it. Just like they like to warn against all the other herbal teas apart from peppermint, e.g., camomile.
It just took me by shock as was convinced was doing a good thing by eating them (iodine, vit C etc.) and then - bah!

Alita7 · 29/06/2014 23:59

What is samphire???

OP posts:
Strawberryfield12 · 30/06/2014 07:40

It's a green weed mainly sold in fishmongers and seafood stalls in supermarkets. It can grow on sea rocks or salt marshes, to what it seems in UK it is mainly from marsh. It is a bit of a fashion thing at the mo, but in some regions of UK it has been known for centuries. In Norfolk it is in abundance. They call it also sea asparagus. Usually served with fish.

BrandSnob · 30/06/2014 08:21

Morning Ladies,

Been awake from the thread for a while. I've been so manically busy at work, I fall asleep as soon as I get home, so no time for MN sniff sniff

Congrats to those with happy scans. I've got mine today at 3.30. I'm a giddy excited nervous wreck as I can't wait to find out if everything is alright with my Jellybean and what colour my bump is!! GrinGrin

TwigletFiend · 30/06/2014 10:12

Morning everyone.

Good news at our scan on Friday too, everything looks fine. Had more moaning about my lack of weight gain though from hospital MW. As am currently eating like a horse and feel healthy, I called my MW and asked her if she was worried and she said no as long as I kept taking vitamins and was feeling ok, but to keep an eye on it and they might want to schedule a growth scan if measurements come up small when I finally develop a bump!

Strawberry, I wouldn't worry. As mentioned above, it's probably more that they haven't done enough research into samphire consumption in pregnant women, so they're covering their asses by sitting on the fence! However, it's extremely unlikely that any vegetable sold as a food product commercially is unsafe to eat, if you see what I mean. It will have to have been produced/handled according to health & safety laws in order to be saleable.

MrsD, glad your night out went ok in the end. And glad you're enjoying pregnancy food freedom! You've also made me want cake now though... Sad

BrandSnob, good luck for your scan! Grin

Oh gosh, the Bean is going to be well-travelled before ever arriving into the world. DP has booked me a surprise trip to Lanzarote! We're leaving Wednesday morning for a week's holiday; we're going to stay at his parents' villa over there (they live there most of the year) so I can even get my pasty white skin out at the poolside without worrying about blinding the locals! I am very excited, though will have to be a bit careful food-wise over there. I love love love seafood though and they have really good quality fish etc. there. I am so excited! Grin

Annarose2014 · 30/06/2014 11:15

Twiglet am madly jealous. I have two weeks off at the start of August and am going.....nowhere. I keep telling myself I'll be too fat and knackered to care. Not sure i'll ever believe it thoug!

Am pleased as punch this morning to find that my old skinnies still fit me! And are ten times comfier than my maternity jeans! Praise Baby Jesus for my disappointing arse!!! Grin

TwigletFiend · 30/06/2014 11:28

Anna, not so disappointing after all then! Grin

What about booking a weekend in a caravan on the beach somewhere? Cheap usually and static caravans have a good deal of home comforts. If you were near us, I'd offer the use of ours, which is blissful! (I say ours, I mean DP's. But he doesn't mind sharing!)

amy83firsttimer · 30/06/2014 11:59

twiglet be careful in the sun, I don't normally burn without noticing but I did in Devon and it was quite bad, apparently you burn more easily when pregnant. Lots of suncream and a hat for me now!

Annarose2014 · 30/06/2014 12:41

Twiglet DH is a dreadful holiday pain. He wouldn't go to a caravan/camping if you paid him. There would be OTHER PEOPLE there! Who make NOISE! Even when we go to a nice hotel, woe betide anyone who dares to stagger noisily down our corridor after 11.30.

Whereas I'm dying to go to one of those French campsites that have huge mobile homes and a supermarket where I can get gallons of Bioderma.

Basically mention "holidays" and he turns into Victor Meldrew. Add a screaming toddler and I know he'll refuse to go anywhere new, or that involves a plane. He keeps muttering about the next few years holidays post-baby being with his mother as she lives on a beach and there's other cousins there. I like his mother and know it makes sense - but God its a depressing thought! Grin

Annarose2014 · 30/06/2014 12:44

About three of the people I work with have been here: www.camping-lasirene.fr/en/

It looks FAB.

ToniWol · 30/06/2014 13:25

I second the warning about the sun. Got terribly burnt and heat rashes at Headingley for the test weekend before last.

Anna - would DH consider somewhere like Hoseasons? Individual lodges and some parks have them quite spread out.

TwigletFiend · 30/06/2014 14:10

Thanks, ladies. I normally burn quite easily anyway and also suffer prickly heat in my legs, so will be extra careful! Does anyone know if there are antihistamines that are safe to take in pregnancy? I normally get them prescribed when I go somewhere hot to keep the itching/redness away but don't have time before we leave!

Also, sorry for TMI here but... fairly certain I achieved orgasm in my sleep last night. This has NEVER happened before. Is this a common pregnancy side effect?! Maybe it's the start of the crazy pregnant lady horniness that has so far been very lacking. I am a bit befuddled by the whole thing really!

Did anybody try any of the suggested remedies for leg cramps? Mine had been dire the last couple of nights, it's driving me nuts!

Miskate · 30/06/2014 14:17

Twig - my doctor prescribed me ceterizine, and you can also use loratadine without any problems.

Thisisimpossible · 30/06/2014 15:16

Hello everyone - god I've missed catching up with you all. I've missed loads Sad Haven't got time to read through everything which is gutting but the posts I have read were all good. Congratulations to everyone who's had good scan news and hugs whose posts I haven't seen who hasn't had the news they wanted.

We had our 20 week scan this morning and all is ok. DP doesn't want to find out the sex so I begrudgingly told the Sonographer that we didn't want to know. It didn't stop me trying to work it out (with DP trying to cover my eyes when the sonographer got to the relevant bits!) but she moved so quickly that I really couldn't tell. I have been convinced that it's been a girl all the way through but I thought I might have seen boy bits today so I have absolutely NO idea now Grin

We have booked a last minute holiday to Croatia on Friday and I am SOOO excited. Can anyone recommend a pregnancy safe insect repellent? I get eaten alive normally and only Jungle Formula works but I'm pretty sure it has DEET in so there's no way I'm using it this time.

Hugs to you all Smile xxx

TwigletFiend · 30/06/2014 15:31

Hi Thisis, nice to have you back! Glad all went well at your scan Smile RE insect repellent, I believe Mosiguard is DEET free. However, I don't think there's any actual evidence that DEET has a negative effect on the fetus, I think it's another precautionary measure. I think I vaguely recall my cousin mentioning that her GP okayed it as long as it was used as directed, so not on broken skin, not on face & hands, over clothes not under etc.

As an alternative though, try Avon's Skin So Soft moisturiser spray! It sounds bizarre, but I promise it works. I use it on my horse's face as it is very mild but it even keeps horseflies away, and they're buggers for biting horses' ears, eyelids etc! Pretty sure that should be safe in pregnancy too as it's just a topical moisturiser. Smells a darn sight better (to me at least!) than the average bug spray too.

TwigletFiend · 30/06/2014 15:34

Just Googled it out of curiosity and apparently even the British Army use it as a mosquito repellent! You need the 'Soft & Fresh' one though I think (green bottle). We must have the nicest smelling army in history! Grin

Thisisimpossible · 30/06/2014 16:38

Lol Twiglet! Thank you very much indeed Grin I will get online and order some now. Will get some for my horse too if it's that good against horse flies!

Have you tried tonic water and bananas for the cramps? I read somewhere that they were supposed to help.

MrsDowneyJunior · 30/06/2014 16:39

You can get those buzzy things you can attach to pushchairs to deter mozzies, and then citronella oil and apparently eating a lot of garlic (and smoking but obviously not when pg!) though I'm usually a very heavy smoker and huge garlic fiend and I still get bitten so not sure of the truth in that!

I had a few days feeling much better, just the SPD getting worse and very sore now, but have slammed straight back down again the last couple of days and I feel like crap again. I don't think it was helped by my ceiling falling down, having a huge reaction to the fibreglass and lime plaster dust my house is now covered in and my lovely ex husband who built and owns the house and has all the insurance details refusing to sort it out for 5 days so far - yet more stress the baby and I don't need. Hmm I've temporarily fixed it with a load of black sacks, duct tape and plastic bags but it's not the best set up!! And the original leak is still a problem obviously and is now being held in with plastic bags instead of dripping out on to my lounge floor and evaporating through porous plaster which isn't ideal but hey ho, if he's happy to have his house fall apart and the bath to crash through the ceiling when the beams rot away then who am I to argue with his greatness. Past caring now, got slightly bigger things to think about than his little control tactics and nasty attitude, that's his new bimbo's problem, not mine anymore.

It's all quiet for me now for a few weeks re appointments. Got physio this week but apart from that it's all quiet now, hopefully! Starting to feel like I live at the hospital and I know half the parking guys & porters by name now!

barmybunting · 30/06/2014 17:14

Hi again :). I lost you there for a while so I am glad to be back!

How is everyone getting on?

I had my 20 week scan this morning, and all looks happy and well. We decided not to find out the sex, but DH has decided it is a boy having spotted what he is sure is boy bits... I reckon it was the cord but anyway, another 20 weeks and we shall see!

weeonion · 30/06/2014 17:48

Hey barmy and thisis - fab scan news!

You can buy Avon skinsosoft from bigger branches of boots.
Another recommending tonic water for cramp!
.

Annarose2014 · 30/06/2014 19:14

Tonic water and lime & ice tastes like a gin 'n tonic. May be having one right now.....Wink

Alita7 · 30/06/2014 20:25

Congrats to those who had scans it's lovely to hear so much good news!

I am so so pale and I never tan no matter what I do even if I burn it just peels off :( but I haven't burnt yet :D

I find having dp next to me prevents mosquito bites as he gets loads and I don't ;)

My steriliser came in the post :D

I'm loving all the kicks, he's getting more active, more frequently and it's such a distraction hehe

I'm glad I knew about burning quicker when preggo before I got here, currently in Tenerife and spending most of the day under the umbrellas, unheard of for me! Loving my bump in a bikini though, probably the most confident I've been by the pool in years.

Keep the good scan news coming!!
