Can I just ask, does anyone else's baby frantically kick and try to swim away from the Doppler? As it's getting bigger I feel it kick with a huge force when I listen, more so than ever normally and now I'm worried that the Doppler might be uncomfortable for the babies ears. Any one else have this issue??

Polkadotscarf · 24/06/2014 06:59

Good scan had yesterday...it's a girl which is a shock as was convinced it was a boy! :-)

Elliekins · 24/06/2014 09:35

Loving all the scan news everyone! Smile
So exciting to hear boy and girl news, makes it seem very real now. Not just gender less babies but real little people!
72.5 hours till my scan! Not that I'm clock-watching!

Thanks for all the positivity re. lack of movement, I am trying not to be worried.

I found baby briefly this morning for about 4 seconds before vanishing.
On my iPhone app it gives you the heartbeats p/min and this morning it was only 114b/p/m.
I had only just woken up and suppose baby was relaxed and asleep too but it seemed worryingly slow given that last time it was 154 b/p/m.
I know that the 110-170 range is perfectly normal but is such a big fluctuation right?
The worry certainly never ends!

As for symptoms, I'm currently (touch wood) alright except for;
I currently have excruciating rib pain on and off, especially on the right-hand side, apparently related to accommodating squished organs and ribcage stretching but I dread to think how much worse it will get. Paracetamol doesn't touch it, only thing that helps is lying on left!

My tummy looks really hairy!

Yuk!

MrsWombat · 24/06/2014 11:26

Hello everyone! Happy to hear all your happy scan news. Smile

Just back from my 20 week scan. Still team yellow, although I think I prefer team rainbow. Grin Baby was really wriggling and the sonographer struggled to get measurements but we got there in the end. I'm slightly concerned that the head circumference is very large.....about the 95 percentile.....and the rest of the body is just above 50%. DP laughed and asked if I was changing my mind about a VBAC. Smile DS was tiny and a non wriggler so this one is different!

DS is starting to talk about the baby more and get excited. November is now his most favourite month! Can't wait to show him the scan photo and I think we will book a 3d scan during the summer holidays so we can take him along.

Morning everyone! Thankfully the D&V seems to have passed again - I went to bed early last night and woke up feeling much better today. Wahoo! Though my appetite has roared back to life too. So far today I have had a bowl of cornflakes, a nectarine and half a banana and am ravenous again! I had to ration the banana so I wouldn't run out of food before my lunch break haha! Any suggestions for healthy and filling snacks would be great - I go through an entire fruit bowl a day at the moment and am also snacking on raw veg, nuts etc. in a desperate attempt to eat healthy things rather than crap. Though I feel like today that might fall by the wayside a bit... Hmm

Polka, congratulations on your DD! Grin

kate, hope the cough goes away soon Sad. I tend to find warm Ribena with a healthy dose of Cassis mixed in helps when I have a cough on my chest too. Or some hot water with a good squeeze of lemon juice and a large dollop of honey.

amy, I get a similar reaction from the Doppler sometimes, but not always. I don't think they'd be allowed to sell them if they were damaging in any way, and I asked my MW about it before buying mine and she said there was no known health risk to the baby, just not to rely on hearing a HB as a guarantee of good health when you should be noting movement patterns etc. later on. I think at this stage of development fetal movement is quite thrashy and uncontrolled anyway, because motor control is still a bit hit and miss. I think that's why it sounds a bit chaotic in there maybe, rather than it being an actual reaction to the Doppler? Though Bean does scoot away from the probe if I press hard right over where he/she is floating, so perhaps it's just the pressure too that stimulates movement? If you're worried, give your MW a call and ask her to confirm that it's ok to use it still at this stage Smile

Ellie, I am the same as you RE movement and also was only able to find baby briefly yesterday evening with my Doppler. It was surprisingly low down still - just above my pubic bone, which I wasn't expecting. I would have thought it would have moved up by now! Though my grandmother commented that due to my 'wide hips' there was plenty of space for baby to grow low down on my frame still and it wouldn't get squashed and need to move up for a good while yet! Gee, thanks Granny. Hmm As for heart rate, I wouldn't worry. It was probably partly because baby was snoozing and 4 or 5 seconds is actually a really short time to get a heart rate when it's beating as fast as theirs are right now - it could just be that the App calculated with insufficient data input and gave you a false reading Smile

Symptoms for me today so far are just: lack of nausea (RESULT!), very mild stretchy/twinge-y feeling under belly button and along transverse abdominals, slight tenderness of lower abdomen and inguinal ligaments (the 'V' ligaments inside your hip joints). This is a good day! Grin

TwigletFiend · 24/06/2014 11:42

Oh, missed you posting, MrsW! Congratulations on a healthy, wriggly baby! Grin

booksshoescats · 24/06/2014 13:52

Lovely scan pic MrsWombat. We didn't bother getting any pics as they all looked so grainy this time. The sonographer said DD had quite a big stomach (within range but proportionately big) but apparently it's quite usual for the proportions of the measurements to change as the pregnancy progresses (or maybe your baby just has a huge brain and will be a genius Grin)

Twiglet - DD's only started moving up in the last week - I was surprised that at 20 weeks she was still only just above my public bone, but now, although I'm still getting movement quite low, I'm getting a fair amount higher up, too, and the bump has definitely moved up since last week.

Is anyone else (still) starving? First trimester hunger has come back with a vengeance in the last few days, so back to eating a full meal every two hours - think she must be having a growth spurt!

weeonion - that would make me feel really stressed too - I sympathise. I feel like I really need things to be super-organised and neat at the moment. However logical or not, surely the kind thing for your DH to do would be to help you get things how you'd like them, even if he does think there's plenty of time? You are doing all the hard work of making a baby, after all. Would he understand it if you said as much, do you think? I mean, admitted that it might not seem reasonable, but that you just need his help for your peace of mind. Then it gives him a chance to back down a bit instead of it seeming as if you think you're right and he's wrong (even though you are and he is!).

Alita7 · 24/06/2014 15:35

Amy I think it's Ok, yourbaby might swim away from any pressure, you can't hear when you touch :p Plus it probably just turns away now as it's starting to get a bit cramped in there now they're bigger, not much room for swimming! Mine usually let's get sit and listen for a bit :)

Mrs Wombat congrats on scan news! I'd be worried about the head too :p mines head is in the 47 th percentile which i was super relived about as my brother had a massive head when he was little! His belly on the other hand is the 8 1st so he's all tubby :p

Alita7 · 24/06/2014 15:36

oh and books I am also very hungry at night. My appetite during the day has decreased with the heat but I wake up for a wee and munch then :p

Tigsy · 24/06/2014 16:09

Books I can't stop eating! I don't know about baby having a growth spurt, but I'm definitely having a mega one!

Loving all the scan news and with all the gender reveals it makes me realise how far we have all come since getting our BFPs!

blamber · 24/06/2014 16:20

I get so hungry when I'm at work! I eat more than the two other guys in my office put together! Twiglet, I don't think that's much at all. Usually by ten o'clock I'm on my second breakfast! I've got this massive bag that I stuff with as much food as possible, just so I won't run out. I have no idea how I haven't gained any weight yet.

Strawberryfield12 · 24/06/2014 16:26

I think i have had a growth spurt last week. Untill wk 17+ had my usual weight and eventually got quite obsessed about it. Have been weighing myself almost every night. So Tuesday it was still the usual weight, but the next evening plus 2,5kg! Shock.

I could actually feel the bump growing bigger as well. I guess with such jumps I dont qualify for award for steady weight gain.... Hmm

CraziesTogether · 24/06/2014 16:28

Twiglet, I'm eating a lot of Cottage cheese and ryvita, have a box of fruit & fibre in my drawer, soups, yoghurt, pitta and peanut butter dip.....I am an eating machine too! :)

amy83firsttimer · 24/06/2014 18:46

Congratulations to all with positive scan news.
My turn tomorrow at 3pm. Me me me, eek eek eek so excited. Can't believe I'm past the 20 week mark and properly showing. My (male, childless) boss reckons I'm big for 20 weeks so I'm worried this baby's

amy83firsttimer · 24/06/2014 18:47

.... going to be massive.

Ggggrr phone..

BabyButton1 · 24/06/2014 19:06

Wow congratulations to all the new baby news :-)

Mrs Wombat - don't panic too much yet. Hopefully babies nobody will have a speedy growth to catch up with his/her head.

Glad loads of you are having cravings and still mega hungry. I've not had any cravings or hunger yet but Youve made me hopeful it will happen soon. My diet consists of cheese and bananas..only! And I do well to keep them down longer than a few hours. Think I'm gonna buy weighing scales because I'm starting to get concerned about my weight. I was thinking about taking some complan or some High calorie shakes so I'm atleast getting something in me that's high in nutrients. Has anyone had these during pregnancy? May have to speak to midwife?

Is anyone still waking up non stop to pee in the night? It's so frustrating!!

Alita7 · 24/06/2014 20:02

Good luck Amy! Can't wait to hear!

Buttons some nights I'm up every half an hour either all night or until about 4 when I start to manage 1-2 hours :p

Petal26 · 24/06/2014 20:34

Congrats polka and wombat Hope it goes well tomorrow amy

Today, for the first time in months and months I got my '5 a day' of fruit and veg! It won't be happening for the next few days because I'm at school and will be grabbing whatever carbs I can get my hands on but feeling good for the moment!

I can't get enough of Doritos and salsa dip at the moment, keeping them in business... :-)

Hopeful83 · 24/06/2014 20:34

Just marking my place as I've dropped off again!

Congrats to those with great scan news and good luck for tomorrow Amy! Great to hear about lots more healthy, happy babies and Mums.

I am also constantly hungry - really worried midwife will tell me off for putting on too much weight.

amylou85 · 24/06/2014 21:21

Good luck tomorrowAmy! I bet you're not going to sleep tonight!!

I am constantly starving. Currently I'm having either cereal or bagel when I get up, usually a banana when I get to work. Then I eat fruit with the kids at snack time, at lunch I have a full on school meal (sandwiches don't really cut it anymore) Then some mini cheddars and fruit or something as school ends, some soup when I get in from work when i'm ravenous and then a proper cooked dinner on top of that! I can't stop!!

Just trying to look through pushchair reviews on the mumsnet review site. When I read 1 or 2 bad reviews which they almost all have it outs me right off! I don't want any of them at that rate!!

amylou85 · 24/06/2014 21:21

Amy

Tigsy · 24/06/2014 21:47

Amy83 good luck for tomorrow! Are you finding out? When we went for ours the sonographer was amazed we didn't want to know, as she said at least 75% of women find out now.

Amylou I know what you mean about the reviews. I found them all really off-putting! Looking at the reviews on which was much more helpful....

Twizzzy · 24/06/2014 21:49

Congratulations on all the scan news. We have ours tomorrow morning - can't wait but a bit nervous too.
Am definately 'eating for two' at the moment. So hungry all the time! As I had hg up until about 17 weeks and lost a lot of weight then I'm not too worried at the moment, but if I continue like this it's not only my tummy that's going to get a lot bigger Smile

Annarose2014 · 24/06/2014 22:34

My appetite has actually lessened but I don't know if thats a 21 week thing or if its the heat. All I want to do is drink water, and I can't face meat at all these days.

Working in my hospital ward is like working in a submarine filled with hot stagnant air - its airless and rank and sweaty. Am finding it very tough. I open all the patients windows wide but there's no breeze and the air doesn't reach the corridor anyway. And then I have to empty something nasty and foul down the steaming sluice and I'm literally gagging in the heat. I can't bear it, and am dying for maternity leave. Sad

Haven't peed during the night since the first trimester, long may it stay away!

I had loads of tickles and scratch sensations at the weekend but none since. i just wish it was consistent! This anterior placenta is really pissing me off now. I thought once movements came they STAYED, but apparently not. Might listen to my Doppler again tonight.

amy83firsttimer · 24/06/2014 23:17

Tigsy not finding out either, might ask sonographer to not tell us but not ask us to look away. Like a game? (I'm such a child!)
