Amy83 and Tigsy, that our plan too; saying we don't want to be told but there is no way I won't be able to look to see what I can see Smile.

Good luck for your scans!

moggle · 25/06/2014 07:54

I thought doing that, but I'm worried I'll then spend the rest of the pregnancy convinced it's one sex when it's actually the other!

ToniWol · 25/06/2014 08:24

We're not finding out either. It's annoying DM because she doesn't want to knit in just white.

Amylou - I felt that about the reviews as well, but I now have a theory that people are much more likely to review if they have a problem than if not.

Last day at work today before heading off to Woolfest (huge fibre crafting fair in Cockermouth). There's talk of going swimming in a lake - so very glad that maternity clothes from friend included a maternity tankini.

moggle · 25/06/2014 08:49

White is lovely on a newborn but come on Toni's DM there are lots of other truly unisex colours too! My DM is knitting a purple Aran hoodie for baby :-D I have made a blue cardi and a red cardi and a multicoloured stripy stocking hat. Am jealous of you going to Woolfest!! I have to make do with hobbycraft :-)

weeonion · 25/06/2014 09:09

morning all!

Good luck to twizzy and amy83 on your scans - cant wait to hear your news later!

last day of term up here for DD - cant believe the end of another year. DD "gets" the idea of summer hols properly for 1st time this year so she is well psyched. Taking 1/2 day to be there for her and to say bye to parents for hols. Feel really lucky as she is at a v small school (140 pupils altogether) and in the main - other parents are lovely, really supportive and so friendly.

have a good day folks . xx

Alita7 · 25/06/2014 10:19

Good luck with all the scans!

Anna I find my doppler has been great as sometimes if I can't feel him I can hear him move on to doppler, he's probably facing the wrong way.

I had a lovely experience with my doppler last night, he was wriggling and kicking the second I put it on and I could hear and feel almost every movement together :) (so for me definite proof that I definitely wasn't just having massive wind bubbles popping :p)

He moves way more when I'm lying flat or slouched on the sofa, not sure if I can feel it more or he just likes/dislikes that position :p

Glad it's not just me with the appetite of a lion then!

We aren't finding out at scan on Friday either. It's massively irritating DP's Dad, which is an added bonus! Grin Having said that, I now feel a little guilty. DP's parents live in Lanzarote most of the time and we are flying out there next Wednesday for a week's holiday! All a bit last-minute, rush rush but never mind. They're paying DP's flights (mainly because they want him to do a whole load of DIY work when he's out there) and tbf have offered to pay mine, though I have politely said I'll pay them back before we go - once I've been paid! On the other hand, DP's Mum is flying out with us, but his Dad is conspicuously not Hmm. He also called me by DP's ex-of-three-years name the other day, which I'm sure was intentional. For God's sake, she used to get her minge out at family gatherings and flirted with DP's older brother, HOW IS SHE STILL PREFERABLE TO ME?! Sorry, have to let my childish tantrum out on here so I can remain aloof and coolly polite when faced with him in real life.

Alita, what does the movement sound like? Sorry, know it will be hard to describe! I can't feel movement at all still yet, but I can hear a lot of sqooshy liquidy sounds when I listen on the Doppler, even if I can't find the HB. Do you think it's movement? Or could it just be my digestion chowing down on the huge amount of food I consume?!

Good luck Twizzy and Amy, happy scanning! Smile

Toni, why not make a subtle suggestion of other colours you like? 'Oh, I love this cardigan. What a shame it doesn't come in emerald green - I love bright colours on babies!'

I am very envious of all you crafty ladies. I have no art talent at all. Wah Sad

Saw my GM again yesterday - she is quite frail following a serious stroke about 7 years ago, but her mind is still sharp as a tack. As we left, I said 'Don't you do anything I wouldn't do!' and she looked down at my non-existent bump, sniffed and said, 'Well that gives me plenty of licence, doesn't it!' Pahahahaha! I was speechless! What a set-down! Grin

Alita7 · 25/06/2014 12:33

Twiglet, the movement sounds like if you touch the doppler with your hand but when you haven't moved or touched it. So like bang or swooshy sound, it's different depending on how the babies moved, If it's a kick or a wriggle away. It may hurt your ears :p

OP posts:
Alita7 · 25/06/2014 12:33

And yes it's definitely liquidy :p

OP posts:
Tigsy · 25/06/2014 12:52

moggle that's what I was worried about and convinced myself if I saw something I would end up asking the sonographer. Luckily I didn't see anything or not see anything really to convince myself either way, and to be honest half the stuff she was pointing out I couldn't make head or tail of anyway!

MrsStardust14 · 25/06/2014 15:19

As we are having winter babies, what are you guys planning on dressing the baby in when it first leaves hospital? Everything I see for new borns is white, cream, pink or blue but wanted a special first ever outfit!

BabyButton1 · 25/06/2014 15:26

Good luck to all those who have/had scans today.

We aren't finding out either. I'd love to know but I've been persuaded not to and to wait for that moment when baby is in our hands. I was also going to try and have a look at the scan just out if curiosity but I know ill have non idea what to look out for!

Alita - I've tried using the Doppler and I hear the swishy sounds and random loud noises suddenly buy I just put it down to my belly gurgling. I wonder if I'm missing something? Hope it is the baby...it sounds very liquidy but I still have a sicky belly so I think everything is that.

Twiglet - hahaha my ex's mum used to always call me by the ex's name - it's so annoying but After a few times I just ended up laughing!!

Managed to eat a banana and piece of bread today :-) fingers crossed I'm on to a winner.

Anyone got any good recommendations for a really dry scalp? I know it will be because I'm constantly dehydrated but I've horrible patches all over my head still :-( nothing seems to be helping!

TwigletFiend · 25/06/2014 15:48

Baby, try Argan Oil. You can use it on hair/nails/skin/lips, but it's all natural so isn't irritating at all and it's really good for dryness. I've had terrible dry, scaly patches on my face for a while and it's clearing them right up, though it took a couple of days worth of applications to kick in. It smells yum too!

Also, I'm sure the ex in your case wasn't a fanjo-flashing slagbag who tried to kiss her then-DP's older brother. I just smiled and corrected him, but still. Argh!!

Alita7 · 25/06/2014 16:29

Button those sounds are almost definitely baby moving :) They were there when I first got my doppler at about 13 weeks and have gotten stronger/louder since and now coordinate with when I feel movement :)

another one here that feels HUNGRY alot of the time - i am trying to keep it healthy but still - a whole punnet of strawberries and a whole punnet of black grapes this afternoon from 2pm cant be good. ( that is not counting the 2 breakfasts and 2 lunches i managed today....................)

Mrsstardust - if all goes according to plan - my autumn baby will be transferring from living room to our bedroom Grin so a lime green vest with a rainbow dip dyed matching hat and babygro, all topped off with a bright turquoise cardie ...... Smile

amy83firsttimer · 25/06/2014 17:20

Scan was great. The photos are a bit weird looking, think we have a strange looking child!!! Sonographer was lovely and said all looks ok and explained it all well. Off to Google to work out centiles now.

amy83firsttimer · 25/06/2014 17:48

70th percentile for head
13th for abdomen
84th for femur length

Sounds like me, massive head, skinny with long legs.

Happy with that I suppose, nothing off either end of charts and alive and wriggling!

(forgot to say before, had to go for wee and walk to try and get a proper look at the spine, I joked about doing handstands to get baby to move then actually did some cos found a piece of grass, think the poor sonographer thinks we're a pain of loons!!)

amy83firsttimer · 25/06/2014 18:19

26th percentile for weight. Tiny baby!!!

Twizzzy · 25/06/2014 18:53

Congrats Amy :)
All was well at our scan too, although placenta is towards the low side so have to have another scan at 34weeks to check up on it. We weren't given centiles but the measurements are plotted on graphs and whilst everything is well within the normal range it looks like he's inherited dh's short legsSmile and yes we did find out it's a boy. Very glad we decided to find out as we have been really struggling with boys names so gives us plenty of time to think about it. As a teacher I'm finding names very difficult - I keep thinking of students with the same name.
Good luck to all with their scans still to come Grin

amy83firsttimer · 25/06/2014 19:00

We weren't given centiles, just measurements and then I used a tool on baby2see.com that I found through Google to get the centiles.
Congratulations on good scan.

Petal26 · 25/06/2014 20:26

Congratulations on the scans ladies :-)
I'm the sane as you twizzzy, struggling with boys names and associating them with children I've had at school!

Just been to a Mothercare 'expectant mothers' event and got goody bag and nibbles with a 10% off voucher, ordered a new carrycot for my Oyster as I had a bright pink second hand one last time and that won't do for a boy! :-)

Strawberryfield12 · 25/06/2014 20:59

MrsStardust I was also thinking about that special first outfit to take the baby from the hospital. Something very nice to save as a memory when DC grows up. We still haven't had the 20w scan, so don't know what we are expecting and buying all the clothes neutral/unisex (I would do that way anyway as like idea about the gender neutral upbringing).
Maybe that special first outfit will be more personal and not so unisex. At the moment considering to look for it on Notonthehighstreet.com (lots of goods can be personalised), Jojo Maman Bebe or Whitecompany.

Congratulations Amy and Twizzy!

After visiting Mothercare and Mamas and Papas over last weekend and feeling quite lost and confused in all that quantity of things, I have to admit it is definitely much easier for me to do online shopping. Website feels much more organised and controllable than piles of stuff for me...

Amyrose82 · 26/06/2014 06:24

Eeeeek it's scan day! So excited and so nervous, can't wait to see our little bubba again Smile

Lovely to hear everyone's positive scan news - and half way seems like such a huge milestone!

Still not 100% sure if I'm feeling movements, it's at the stage where it could be baby but could be wind! The tiredness has come back this week but I'm hoping that's just been a busy weekend catching up with me - was DH's birthday BBQ on Saturday and was up til 2am!

amy83firsttimer · 26/06/2014 06:59

Good luck Amy - I feel the same about movement and got told I have anterior placenta yesterday so that put my mind at rest as it explains why a bit.
Maybe it's the same for you! Either way, there's a couple of weeks left before we should officially be getting worried about movements

Also, not wanting to put a dampener on things but we're not halfway. Due to the unique daft way that pregnancy is measured we've actually only been pregnant for 18 weeks not 20 so double that would be 36 and some first babies are 2 weeks late so we need to double what we've done so far then add on up to 6 weeks!!!!!

(so bored of being pregnant / sober)

Alita7 · 26/06/2014 08:13

Congrats Amy and Twizzy on your scans :)
