Wow this makes me feel so far along! Nearly halfway!

Scan went well :)

We were 30 mins late going in so my bladder was enormous, I had to go and pee halfway through as there was no room for the baby. baby was very wriggly when they were trying to take measurements, and then when they needed them to move about to look at the face they sat there with their hand over it, and no amount of prodding or jiggling by the sonographer would make them move. The pictures are a bit weird.

Still! there's a normal sized baby in there! Was terrified to have a giant as my husband is a very tall man and came out extremely long. I came out short but a hefty 9lbs, so I have visions of a fat long baby...

Elliekins · 18/06/2014 14:07

Ha ha! A kindred spirit!
I did the exact same thing.
A friend gave me a large bag of baby clothes (maybe 2 years ago!) to pass on to another friend for her daughter. I had a rummage (a lot of it was already too small for the baby) so I put away (quite) a few of my favourites for safe-keeping... Smile

I am guaranteed to have a boy now, absolutely guaranteed to!

MrsDowneyJunior · 18/06/2014 14:12

I just won a winter baby girl bundle on eBay the other night, beautiful bits, some never worn still with the tags on, designer brands too, 70 items for £30.Grin That's me sorted. Grin

Oh and for those who've had their scans, the link above allows you to check the measurements and see what percentile the baby is in.

Elliekins · 18/06/2014 14:29

Glad not alone in hoarding and secret shopping! Smile

Great news about the scan Miskate, think we are due the same day? (7th) but I still have 10 more bloody days to wait impatiently for my scan Sad as I am seeing the consultant at the same time...

Books, I assume I will have to have the trans-vaginal scan when I see the consultant as I had a Leep procedure for dodgy cervical cells a few years ago and they removed quite a chunk of cervix at the time. Not nice!
I am terrified of needing a stitch to 'strengthen' my cervix Hmm and if I'm at risk of going into labour prematurely - hence busying myself with buying and making pretty things!

Mrs DJ, what time is your appointment today?
Sure it will be absolutely fine but thinking of you.

MrsDowneyJunior · 18/06/2014 14:30

I'm ignoring all of that to be honest. Last time they told me DD was 8lb 6.5oz but she was born 4 days later at 10lb 2oz. This time I've had 4 scans so far and they all say something different with the same body part measuring on the 24th, 64th, 68th and 95th %ile, some scans just a week apart. I'm not stressing about it. She's fine, I'm fine, I'm done with the constant pointless worry.

MrsDowneyJunior · 18/06/2014 14:32

Elliekins I'm here now. It was supposed to be 2pm but half an hour later the waiting room is packed, I've not seen anyone go in and no one has said a word yet. Don't know why they bother with appointment times. My notes are still sitting on the desk untouched.Hmm

Miskate · 18/06/2014 14:35

Elliekins - how annoying about the wait. I am due the 4th, but still wouldn't meant to be waiting another 10 days. Blargh.
FWIW I'm not worrying about measurements, I just find them fascinating.

Elliekins · 18/06/2014 14:35

God, so frustrating for you. I hate waiting, especially for something like this when you just want some answers. I hope you get seen soon!

MrsDowneyJunior · 18/06/2014 14:41

Oh FFS! Just been told the consultant is not here again! 2nd time now they've booked me to see her and she's not been here and I'm not impressed when I have a lot of concerns after Mondays scan! So I now have to see yet another bloody junior doctor, who doesn't know much, ticks boxes, asks to reiterate all the same story all over again and I'll probably never see her again. Again. This is so frustrating! Going to have a word I think. It's really not good enough especially when I'm apparently so terribly concerning high risk, they're calling me in at least once a week over nothing and I am worried after Monday. Plus the guy opposite me has the worst feet ever in flip flops and they STINK. Cover those minging hobbit claws up for gods sake!

MrsDowneyJunior · 18/06/2014 14:52

50 minutes wait and counting... let's see if they can get it to an hour. Good job I don't have anything else to do.Hmm

blamber · 18/06/2014 15:39

It's so annoying having to wait around! Especially for a scan with a full bladder.

Mrsd I can't believe the consultant is not there after you had to make that appointment after the scan. Hope the junior doc is not too useles.

ToniWol · 18/06/2014 16:03

Elliekins - on the craft side I am planning lots of knitting (although this is mainly as my stash lives in what will be baby's room). Already have a pair and a half of socks.

blamber · 18/06/2014 16:24

Toni I'm knitting too. Never knitted anything complicated (mostly socks) but am attempting a cardigan. I have already unravelled and started over again about five times. Hope I get it finished before November! The wool is so lovely and soft though, I just like holding it.

Alita7 · 18/06/2014 16:42

Argh Mrs dj that's awful.... bloody Nhs! Have they managed to explain things better?

Ellie you're not mental I want to do those things too! But I haven't bought anything gender specific because if I do it will be the opposite! Will get my first gender thing tomorrow :)

I want to buy things now too so I can see why anyone whose dp says no would be annoyed. How about putting a deposit on a pushchair, then you get excited but don't actually get it until nearer the time? I wish I could buy everything but we need to move before baby so I can't yet :(

Alita7 · 18/06/2014 16:45

Also do we need a full bladder??? I was waiting 70 minutes last time and I cannot hold it more than 30 :p 5 when it's full...

OP posts:
booksshoescats · 18/06/2014 17:05

Alita - I've not had to have a full bladder for any of mine. In fact, a couple of my booking letters have explicitly said you do not need a full bladder.

MrsDJ - that's rubbish, poor you!

Am envious of all of you knitting and crafting. I'm really determined to learn while I'm on mat leave. Been wanting to for ages. Is it bonkers to think I'll have time to do anything like that with a baby? I'm sure I spent last mat leave feeding and watching box sets when I wasn't walking miles trying to get DD to nap in the buggy or eating cake with friends! Don't know why I think I'll have more time this time around, with 5-yr-old to boot!

MrsDowneyJunior · 18/06/2014 17:10

So 90 minutes I was waiting in the end to have bloods, urine and BP checked (pointless - I could do that at my local surgery! Why am I down at the hospital every 5 minutes for this??) and then be told by this junior "It's probably nothing, we'll look again in 14 weeks" and I'm just supposed to not have a breakdown in that time?? This is just wasting everyone's time, money and appointments. Now they have me in for scans at 26, 28, 32 and 34 weeks, the consultant who probably won't bloody be there for 28 & 32 weeks, yet another GTT for 28 weeks when I DON'T FUCKING HAVE FUCKING DIABETES and I've still not seen the consultant! And every time I go it's the same 20 questions over and over and over - read the bloody notes!!! At my 38 week appointment the have me in from 8am to 3pm with one thing and another and it's utterly pointless! Going to speak to my mw about it when I next see her but that's another 6 weeks away. Not happy.

amy83firsttimer · 18/06/2014 18:33

Oh MrsDowneyJunior that sounds very frustrating

Are you able to speak to midwife and insist on a reappointment when the consultant WILL be there?

amy83firsttimer · 18/06/2014 18:36

Also it could have been worse. You could have been told something was seriously wrong for definite and although uncertainty is worrying it is in the middle of the three possible outcomes. Does that make sense? As in yes, maybe, no.

MrsDowneyJunior · 18/06/2014 18:45

I've left a moaning voicemail for my mw so hopefully she'll call me tomorrow. Yeah, no news is good news I guess, just leaving it till 34 weeks when I could have her any time from then onwards is not helpful. Doesn't give much time to do anything or research it or anything. And means I am going to be thinking of it from now till then even if they tell me not to.

amy83firsttimer · 18/06/2014 19:13

Good luck getting proper attention. You seem like an assertive sort, I'm sure you'll make sure the necessary checks are made.

MrsDowneyJunior · 18/06/2014 19:25

Grin lol! "assertive sort"! Translation "right stroppy bloody mare!" Grin

amy83firsttimer · 18/06/2014 19:53

Ha ha!

Alita7 · 18/06/2014 20:08

oh Mrs dj :( hopefully the fact that they are so blasé about it means it's nothing... wished they'd reassure you about it!
