auntie I think the risks are only if you're taking it v close to birth (worth double checking but that was my understanding). Also I was prescribed it by MW in triage when I had sinusitis and was in excruciating pain and went to them begging for something stronger than paracetamol as doc wouldn't give me anything. The MWs seemed remarkably relaxed about it and gave me a whole box to take home! I would give triage a quick ring and get their opinion-the MWs I spoke to said GPs are overly cautious with what they'll prescribe. Also-if you're in pain then you will serve baby better if you can get some rest. So sorry pain has got so bad.

AuntieMaggie · 29/05/2014 18:21

MW knows I'm taking it and said it may take a few days to make any difference so I think they're as laid back about it as you said (in fact they told me to get gp to prescribe it) I just didn't want to have to rely on it and if I end up taking it until baby comes and have to have BP meds thats two things that will affect baby :(

ismarah · 29/05/2014 18:37

Auntie you might have a better day tomorrow and manage with only paracetamol - or the day after. Just because you need the codeine today doesn't mean you'll be completely reliant on it until your baby is born.

And the BP medication, although it may affect baby, is the lesser evil to risking your and baby's life with high BP and/or pre-eclampsia or even eclampsia. Yes, it would be better if you didn't have high BP but hundreds or even thousands of women need these medications every day during pregnancy. Don't beat yourself up about it - just be glad it can be dealt with.

I had a thought for you - pain (and stress and caffeine) also increases BP. Maybe a massage would relieve some of your pain -> reduce pain relief needs -> allow you to relax -> be good for your BP?

Some of the risks, like from taking in too much caffeine, are relatively minor, like a possible low birth weight. Sometimes it's best if you just get the two of you through the pregnancy and then once baby is out, you can be treated separately, which can be much more manageable, IYKWIM.

oh plate that's rubbish since you really wanted a water birth!

so jealous of mat leaves Envy
another 3 weeks to mat leave and C section for me. Liver function tests are deteriorating every week and I can't seem to digest any food anymore. Spend half the day on the toilet Blush and the other half itching lol

Patchworking9til5 · 29/05/2014 19:56

Hello hello....did someone say they had problems with the app? me too! have not been able to use mumsnet for well over a week.
I come back finally and you're all well into a new thread!wow!
I've had a quick read through and am definitely getting the vibe that everyone is excited and anticipating the first birth....wondering who will be first!!
mixi really sorry to hear about your hubby. How are you feeling now?
To.all those with breech/transverse babies our nct teacher recommended crawling around!! Or at the very least not slouching back on the sofa too much. She also said sitting on gym ball helps baby get in right position as you can't lean back.
To all those on mat leave....I'm coming to join you! Last day tomorrow...I cannot wait!

MovingUpwards · 29/05/2014 21:33

Woohoo, the apps working again Grin
I've been having a strange combination of insomnia and exhaustion.. I can't get to sleep at night no matter what time I go to bed and am up and down all night then knackered during the day and always feel like I could do with a nap around 2pm. Obviously not able to actually sleep then as have school/nursery run then DDs homework, dinner etc so Im pushing through the tiredness then it starts to ease off again between 6-7pm Sad

Im pretty sure my boy is lying transverse at the moment, when should we start worrying about them not being head down? Someone mentioned upthread about the inversion technique on spinning babies and how it looked dangerous (sorry on my mobile so cant scroll up) and I agree! Im worried about doing it and falling on my face! Im planning on giving it a try tomorrow when DH is here to help me!

BlueC2 · 29/05/2014 21:55

moving I have just about resigned myself to trying the inversion thing tomorrow or over the weekend when DH is home. Just so fed up of baby lying transverse and annoyed it could not only rule out the home birth i would like but could lead to a c section! From one extreme to another!! Also fed up of feeling guilty every time I sit on the sofa rather than on the ball or do some other unrelaxed pose to try and get baby to move- all I have energy to do at the end of the day is sit with my feet up so not v helpful!

As I type bean is once again doing the most uncomfortable stretches inside me!!

However, coco in the midst of my grumbling I must keep remembering that I'm not in that bad a state really and you for example, have a much much tougher situation at the moment! Is there anyway you can finish work early? Sounds as though you may need to.

icklekid · 30/05/2014 04:24

Morning ladies well yesterday was a write off after no sleep and sickness all day although was actually only sick am...

coco I've got 3 weeks left hoping time is going to fly by- half term for me this week and know mentally I have totally switched off so will be going back, handing over and doing bare minimum. ..hello finish by 4 for me! Have never had this attitude before but right now is only so much I can do and stress can't be good for baby! Envy at patch though!

moving and blue I've read about things you can do in swimming pool to turn baby- would maybe feel safer?

NancyinCali · 30/05/2014 04:56

Midwife appt today and all fine - she's head down now (was breech 2 weeks ago). Then I treated myself to lunch followed by a mani/pedi with an awesome leg massage. Then my DH skived off this afternoon so we went out for cake and coffee and did some double-stroller research. Picked DD up from nursery and then played, made dinner and DH is put her to bed. Perfect. (I'm completely ignoring the washing up right now).

Swimming is supposed to be great for getting baby in a good position as ickle said. I've been meaning to go as apparently it also feels nice to be weightless when heavily pregnant!

Plateofcrumbs · 30/05/2014 06:36

The infamous KNITTED BOOB came out at NCT last night Grin

NancyinCali · 30/05/2014 06:42

Your life is now complete plate Grin
I am jealous as no NCT here although I'm sure I could track down a Californian hippy wielding a knitted boob if I try hard enough.

AuntieMaggie · 30/05/2014 07:47

Firstly thank you ladies for your advice and support and putting up with my moaning. ismarah you make perfect sense. I had a good day yesterday until I got in the car to come home and then when the pain started I just felt shit. DP gave me a big cuddle while I cried all over him and put me to bed so I've had about 12 hours sleep (minus the turning and midnight trips to the loo) with no painkillers and am feeling much better.

plate I forgot to tell you we had 2 knitted boobs at my nhs antenatal class the other week!

Swimming is supposed to be very good for turning baby but if you have pelvic issues don't do breast.stroke legs!

2 weeks left at work minus various appointments is probably about 8 days! Eek!

BlueC2 · 30/05/2014 08:12

auntie so glad you got some sleep :)

plate and auntie knitted boobs Grin

Well I've had an awful night with insane heartburn every time I laid down and DS up in the night too :( BUT I think baby may have moved -whoop whoop!! Not 100% sure yet but kicks at top of bump this morning and sides feel smoother. Not told DH yet in case I'm wrong or it's only temporary but had some major movement at 4am so we'll see! If it has moved then the next challenge is to get it to stay in the new position!!

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 30/05/2014 08:24

That's great news blue! Now stay put baby!

Jealous of all the knitted boob action at NCT. Last night we covered forceps, ventouse, episiotomy, Caesarian and the 3 day baby blues so I came away feeling a bit depressed...

33 weeks today and feeling absolutely wiped out. Still have 4 weeks to go before maternity leave and not entirely sure how I'm going to get through it!

Plateofcrumbs · 30/05/2014 09:53

Mine was doing a LOT of scrambling round yesterday - at one point I was getting kicked right round the side of my waist which is a first. So I'm hoping it might have been performing a bit of a somersault. Only 32 weeks so plenty of time for it to settle on a final position which better be head down or else!

AuntieMaggie · 30/05/2014 10:45

ItsAlways the 'forceps, ventouse, episiotomy' session was gruesome - I came out saying to DP just to cut me open and be done with it rather than sticking all manner of objects up there!

ismarah · 30/05/2014 13:47

Saw consultant today. Now being sent to a different, hopefully more pro-ELCS consultant. This one is vehemently anti-ELCSs and doesn't agree that I should have one on medical grounds. So we shall see, hopefully soon! 34+4 today - feels a bit like time is running out to get it sorted. And if I were to go into labour early (unlikely, but IF) then I'd be having a VB that I don't want.

Want to eat all the food, drink all the drinks and throw all my toys. Instead I shall assemble a cot bed.

Lovely new thread and I'm happy to be back! I missed you all.

Sorry for radio silence, we finally moved last Friday (Yay!) and just got WiFi again.

I can't believe we've done this. The garden is wonderful, the rooms are getting there - we are chewing our way through the boxes.
waiting for bathroom to be finished so I can have a nice bath.
the kitchen is crap, it's doing my head in.

it's been very busy and stressful, last night I had so many and such painful cramps I was worried I'm going into labour...so today I'm spending the day on the sofa.

hope you are all doing ok (I doubt I'll read back, sorry) - really not long now!

BlueC2 · 30/05/2014 16:28

zing woohoo you're in :) well done for resting today!

Just had a bizarre text from my oldest friend (known her since school) she had a dream last night that my baby turned! Which is v strange given my post this morning saying I thought it may have done! Been wondering all day where it's at so will just have to wait and see :)

ismarah · 30/05/2014 19:15

It's official: I am the blob. Thighs look like crumpled bags of marshmallows, the catering size bags. Several of those.

I am officially fed up of being pregnant. 34&3 and now feeling big and uncomfortable and my right leg gave up working in sainsburies earlier. Can't sleep properly.... Haven't had a full nights sleep now for nearly 7 months. And DC1 was 8 days late. Can't imagine this one will be early.... Grrrrrrrrrr!!! Oh and to top it off my arm is still dead after the whooping cough stabbing....

Tonight I think I will have a g and t and see if that helps!

And now I am double posting! Sorry! (& sorry for the rant!)

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 30/05/2014 19:40

I would love a G&T but have none in the house. May have a sneaky cinzano...

Sorted the mortage on the phone. We havent changed banks just one fixed deal ending and need a new one but the amount of questions about our income and future plans. We only stuck to the same bank to avoid them. I may have not mentioned being pregnant Blush but felt bad so said we were trying for a baby. Fortunately they don't want to see any proof of earnings etc.

MrsA2 · 30/05/2014 19:59

Zing glad you are in and well done for resting today.

Ismarah I feel like a blob too, this part is rubbish.

Am on the non- alcoholic beer at the moment but may treat myself to a glass of wine. I do find though that the reality of wine is less appealing than the idea.

Appointment with the midwife today, this one she came to my house to cover birth preferences. We did NCT but still learnt something today. I didn't realise that I could call the community midwife in early labour if it's during day time hours and she'll pop over to check how dilated I am/how I'm coping so could save a wasted trip to the hospital, that's good.

I think I did know but had forgotten to mention wanting to use the birthing pool when calling in, then it can be filled ready for us to arrive (if it's free, no issues and I still want to use it of course).

Still head down and apparently now 1/5 engaged (though sounds like 1/5 means nothing at all), just stay there now please baby!
