Hope you like the title - like inside us, there was no room on the other thread!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
mupperoon · 28/05/2014 10:49

HomeIsWhereTheGinIs yep, when we spent the morning in triage a few weeks ago, we had to endure the alarming "heartbeat lost" alarm every few minutes. The midwife said it was a good sign more than anything else, as the baby was obviously very active and when the heartbeat was available it was the right speed with accelerations/decelerations etc.

Like yours, our little pickle started kicking like a mule as soon as the midwife got to setting up the monitor. What is it with the unborn?

AuntieMaggie · 28/05/2014 11:06

itsalways andhome glad to see you got checked out and everything is ok.

ickle girls can wear cars :) we bought some very cute blue sleepsuits with monkeys on as we couldn't resist the cuteness... if we have a girl she can wear them to bed/at home.

I'm working from home today trying not to eat liquorice until I've asked mw this afternoon... I have chocolate but its not the same!

HomeIsWhereTheGinIs · 28/05/2014 11:08

Mupperoon and Jasmine, I agree, it's never worth waiting to see if things change. We should always go straight in. I find the threads started on the pregnancy board about this quite worrying, I would always go straight there rather than waiting.

I wasn't aware that the heartrate varied that much either actually, the whole experience was a bit of an education! Looking forward to the scan to ensure everything is fine.

Mrsc020987 · 28/05/2014 11:31

Home, i was the same 2 weeks ago. I have just been off the phone from triage as its happened again, been told to wear maternity pad and to wait 2 hours to call back and give pad report, so glam. It is scary tho, i just fear baby getting any infection so i am not ignoring it, due to see consultant tomorrow because of it my midwife told me that the speculum is only as good as what's happening at the time and wants a scan done to see the amount of fluid around the baby! I feel like im being a bit paranoid and silly but dh told me to make sure i get checked everytime!

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 28/05/2014 11:48

ickle I feel very strongly that girls can wear clothes with cars on After all we are allowed to drive Grin.

I also am having a surprise and so far in beans wardrobe I have tractors (DH is a tractor driver), dogs (we have a dog), cars (we like cars) and dinosaurs (I am an archaeologist). Just no pink princesses (although boys can wear princesses if they want to).

Bean hasn't turned yet but lots of movement.

mupperoon · 28/05/2014 12:27

I was unaware until unexpectedly getting up the duff how the whole pink vs. blue thing has taken over all baby goods. I'm horrified to be honest, especially since it seems that the pink=girl, blue=boy equation may have been an early 20th C invention, not a "natural gender bias".

I remember my favourite clothes when I was a kid were my red hooded cord jacket, some khaki long shorts and a t-shirt with "Here Comes Trouble" on it. Practical clothes for going exploring in, lighting illicit campfires etc. Whatever sex Schroedinger's baby turns out to be, it will wear all colours of the rainbow until it's old enough to pay for its own damn clothes express a preference.

lentilpot · 28/05/2014 12:48

I was in the hospital too last night with reduced movements! Predictably he perked up as soon as the monitor was put on so I joked that next time I'd wrap my stomach in elastic to get him kicking –midwife took me seriously and said that I should always, always go in if I have any funny gut feelings. They monitored me for 20 minutes and baby seemed perfectly happy.

I think baby has shifted positions as I'm still not getting the wallops I'm used to (although he has been more active today).

Is anyone else trying cloth nappies? I've started washing the teeny newborn nappies and they are so adorable! Makes it all seem a bit real to walk into the living room and see a clothes horse full of nappies!

mixi82 · 28/05/2014 12:54

afternoon all, just wanted to say thanks for support and Thanks to everyone who gave advice.

I've got to decide what's best for me and baby this time and for now I'll be doing it without DP and spending my final weeks with my mum, so I won't be alone! She's great with the support and it's just what I need right now. Just so frustrated with it all, especially being stuck on camp this week but looking on, I do only have to stick out work until Friday then it's maternity leave for me!!! Can't wait, I need this BADLY!!!

Will stop leaving depressing posts on the page now lol......

AuntieMaggie · 28/05/2014 13:01

lentil I'm going to give reusables a go but not straight away... going to get my head around everything else first!

liquid I love your selection of baby clothes :) I prefer babies in bright colours rather than just pink or blue especially in the summer.

I have 3 bags at the ready to start packing for hospital - one for me, one for baby and one with extra bits if I end up staying in... cotton wool balls/pads or pleats?

HomeIsWhereTheGinIs · 28/05/2014 13:21

Liquid auntie and lentil I'm with you on the clothes front. I've really had to search far and wide to find anything other than blue and grey clothes with cars or boats on them. I've managed to find some lovely bright clothes at frugi and peter jones, as well as the gap but I'm pretty sure some are supposed to be for girls. Sod it, I think the idea of colour division is madness (and boys clothes are so boring if you stick to the main offerings!).

MrsB2013 · 28/05/2014 13:34

H&M and Pumpkin Patch usually have some nice bright clothes if you don't want blue/pink stuff.

Facebook group: pm me your email address and I can invite you to join, you will get an email from FB and need to click the link to join. Its a private group so wont show up on your profile or any searches :)

BlueC2 · 28/05/2014 13:54

auntie we found the large round cotton wool pads the best with DS. The balls are a bit small when dealing with newborn poo and a pleat is a pain as you have to keep tearing bits off. Hth

mixi so glad you can go to your Mum's. Not an easy decision I'm sure but sounds a sensible one

For all those in triage last night-well done for going in. Much better to get checked and so glad all is ok!

Re clothes Tesco have some v cute yellow and grey elephant bodysuits and babygrows in at the moment-alas all the small sizes had sold out in my store but they're v bright, cute and unisex!! If we have a girl then she will still be wearing the majority of DS's clothes - growing up my favourite colour was blue and preferred that for clothes too!

Just a lovely tit-bit of toddler behaviour for the first-timers to look forward to - DS cried/screamed laid on the floor occasionally throwing toys for 45 minutes this morning because I wouldn't let him watch another episode of Postman Pat! He eventually gave up as realised Mummy was ignoring him :) We then built a den around the sofa though and he had lots of fun counting 123 and then jumping off onto a pile of cushions! Fun times with a 2yo on a grey and rainy day! :)

Safyre · 28/05/2014 13:54

Hi all. I only seem to find these threads when they start up and then get lost as they get longer!

Minor update for the list - my due date has been moved to 21st July, and it's an almost-certainly-boy. Maternity Leave starts 3 weeks tomorrow and can't come soon enough, though I may change my mind when I'm 36 weeks and chasing a hyperactive toddler around the house!

liquidstatehasrisenagain · 28/05/2014 13:57

Pumpkin Patch are fab, really good quality and lots of lovely colours (including pink and blue)!

I will also be ordering bits from this seamstress as soon as I can... www.sewingcircus.co.uk/campaign.html I love the space material she uses.

As an historian I can also confirm pink was a boys colour until the early 20th century! I just think everyone should be able to wear all colours.

lemonpoppyseed · 28/05/2014 14:04

Hi all!

Marking my place on the thread. I wonder how many new arrivals we'll have by the time a new thread is needed? Grin

AuntieMaggie · 28/05/2014 14:54

BP still up - asked MW about liquorice connection to high BP and she had no idea if one existed so her advice was to stop eating it and see what happens :(

Thanks blue I'll stick the pack of pads in then

justhayley · 28/05/2014 16:17

So today I mostly feel like death! Headache, like I'm 3 seconds away from being sick (that could be down to the half pack of Jaffa cakes I ate), and so exhausted I could cry.
Luckily my 2 year old is in a lovely mood and happily playing while I lay on the sofa feeling like the worlds worst mum but I physically can not move today.
Tonight I'll be going to bed at 7 with my son. 2 1/2 hours to go - iv been on count down pretty much since I woke upSad

KitKatChick · 28/05/2014 16:19

Finally managed to catch up on the old and new thread. Been crazy busy with work and redoing bathroom at home so had little time to keep up. I've been pretty lucky otherwise with nothing more than heartburn and tiredness bothering me so big hugs to everyone who had any worries over the last couple of weeks.

Still much to get organised baby/hospital bag wise but I don't want to start that until after the bathroom is finished which should be sometime this week and then I'll be definitely checking out all the links to cute gender neutral clothes as we're having a surprise too.

Still interviewing for my maternity cover with nobody decent in sight - I can't believe there's nobody out there that comes even close to what we need. I really wish there was someone internally that could take over. Anyway only an hour to go till home time - really can't wait!

Plateofcrumbs · 28/05/2014 17:32

KitKat feel your pain on the maternity cover front!

The baby has been wriggling like crazy today, hard to keep a poker face in meetings when a kick takes you by surprise.

Planning to make some lavender bags with new sewing machine tonight. Then I think I'm going to get some new fabric and sew some dribble-bibs over the weekend for the NCT crew. Trying to embrace a new 'homemaker' identity Grin

plate I will without a doubt be doing the bare minimum for the next 3 weeks! Not a bad job but def not going out of my way to work extra hours etc far too late for that now! Hope you have more luck finding a maternity cover kitkat can't be long to go surely?

justhayley rubbish to hear your not feeling great- a day resting and early night can make a big difference!

I did think the same about girl wearing boys baby grow didn't bother me so pleased to read others thinking the same on here!

I've spent the day on the beach in the sun relaxing (with suncream on this time!) This holiday lark is the way forward Smile

AuntieMaggie · 28/05/2014 17:52

ickle very jealous of your beach trip! Its freezing here!

plate I have a sewing machine I need to learn how to use...

justhayley sorry to hear you aren't feeling well - if you get any worse please see someone

ismarah · 28/05/2014 17:55

Auntie if you google liquorice and hypertension, you get tons of scholarly / medical results about it - particularly black liquorice as the plant it derives from has a direct effect on BP. I had hypertension for some years and it was one of the things I had to give up completely. My BP was mostly managed by medication at the time until an actual cause was found and cured, and I very specifically didn't risk getting pregnant at the time as it would have been quite likely to be disastrous.

With pregnancy BP increases it's a lot harder to manage because there could be an underlying reason for the increase unrelated to the pregnancy - or it's the pregnancy. Either way, stop eating liquorice - although some significant quantities are needed. Also, avoid liquorice tea, obvs, for the same reason.

How high is your BP now? Because that also matters..

I thought of one thing to add to our hospital bags - depending on how long you're likely to be in - our vitamins!

Saw MW today (yet another one - and a nice one) and she stated quite clearly that my consultant is simply anti-ELCS. So that's that then, with regards to that consultant. I've been doing a spot of Google-Fu and found a possible consultant that might be more amenable to it so DH and I will discuss it at our appointment on Friday. If needed, MW also suggested speaking to the Patient Advice & Liaison Service and getting them on our side. I'd always thought of them as a post-fact thing but apparently they can be proactive.

Bump was small today, only 32-33cm while I'm 34+1 today. Not sure if that's worryingly small (I don't think so) but I was very convincing when I told DH that it wasn't.

And the pool at Frimley Park is apparently now open - for those that will be there... JayKay

MovingUpwards · 28/05/2014 18:22

Hello all, hope you are all keeping well.
I haven't been on in ages, been having problem getting on the app an that's usually how I post.
Anyone found anything to help with SPD? I saw a physio who gave me a piece of tubi-grip Hmm and told me my posture was really bad and I should work on that but not to worry as most people find they feel fine afte the baby is born! So only potentially nearly 10 more weeks of pain!

I've been getting very emotional for the last week or so. The other day I was sat next to a lady at my DDs nursery who is due 4 weeks before me and she told me I looked huge, It took everything I had to not burst into tears but I did have a little cry when I got home :( You'd think she'd know better, I wouldn't comment on another pregnant woman's size!

AuntieMaggie · 28/05/2014 18:26

I've been eating about 2 bags of aldi liquorice a week for the past month/six weeks and BP has gone up over the past two weeks. BP is 140/90 - according to mw guidelines (they've just had new ones apparently) it can go up to 149/90-something before treatment.

Also great minds think.alike - I have literally just added tablets to my hospital list so I don't forget vitamins and other tablets!
