Auntie if you google liquorice and hypertension, you get tons of scholarly / medical results about it - particularly black liquorice as the plant it derives from has a direct effect on BP. I had hypertension for some years and it was one of the things I had to give up completely. My BP was mostly managed by medication at the time until an actual cause was found and cured, and I very specifically didn't risk getting pregnant at the time as it would have been quite likely to be disastrous.
With pregnancy BP increases it's a lot harder to manage because there could be an underlying reason for the increase unrelated to the pregnancy - or it's the pregnancy. Either way, stop eating liquorice - although some significant quantities are needed. Also, avoid liquorice tea, obvs, for the same reason.
How high is your BP now? Because that also matters..
I thought of one thing to add to our hospital bags - depending on how long you're likely to be in - our vitamins!
Saw MW today (yet another one - and a nice one) and she stated quite clearly that my consultant is simply anti-ELCS. So that's that then, with regards to that consultant. I've been doing a spot of Google-Fu and found a possible consultant that might be more amenable to it so DH and I will discuss it at our appointment on Friday. If needed, MW also suggested speaking to the Patient Advice & Liaison Service and getting them on our side. I'd always thought of them as a post-fact thing but apparently they can be proactive.
Bump was small today, only 32-33cm while I'm 34+1 today. Not sure if that's worryingly small (I don't think so) but I was very convincing when I told DH that it wasn't.
And the pool at Frimley Park is apparently now open - for those that will be there... JayKay
