Starting a new thread for August babies.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
eurochick · 08/06/2014 09:58

mssleepy I have the count the kicks app but usually use the kick counter within pregnancy +, which is an app I have had on my phone since the start.

I hope ice does the trick monsters.

HungryHorace · 08/06/2014 10:17

The 10 kicks a day thing is old advice, and I wish they wouldn't keep saying it / basing their questions round it when you call about reduced movements.

It's all about recognising your baby's own pattern of movement and working from that. So yes, you count / note kicks, but in an individual way.

I have 10 movements in about 10 minutes, so asking if I've had 10 in a day ignores the fact that 10 in a day is SERIOUSLY reduced movement for this baby.

If you're worried, you really must call triage and go in for monitoring. I've been twice so far this pregnancy and have been told both times that they would ALWAYS rather you go than not if you're the slightest bit concerned.

topmammy · 08/06/2014 11:42

Yes I second that about the 10 kicks a day advice being out of date. I even got told this 10 kicks thing at an antenatal class being run by an ex MW. Obviously she didn't mean to give us out of date advice but well, it was. I bit my tongue not wanting to be rude but I only know she was incorrect as I have a mum who is a current MW so the others probably took it on board.

Well it's happened again as usual, half 11 and I need a nap! Going out in a mo for Sunday lunch though so can't. Food will probably wake me up though Grin

ilovemonstersInc · 08/06/2014 14:24

Thank you all. As soon as dh asked about baby he decided to dance lol. Similar thing happened in previous pregnancy lol. We've had a lot more movement today so im happy dont have to go to get checked. Dh said this baby wasnt planned which means God wanted him here so dont worry about anything lol.

I have a scan and consultant appointment on Wednesday so will mention the quietness and the pain. Will also go and get checked if anything changes again

ilovemonstersInc · 11/06/2014 08:07

Hello anyone here?

I have growth scan and hopefully sort out a birth plan with consultant today....

still havent heard from disney

HungryHorace · 11/06/2014 08:45

Good luck today, Monsters. :-)

I'm seeing the consultant today too, hopefully to get my ELCS date.

Disney is on the Facebook group and is fine. :-)

Gorgeous weather today after yesterday's storms. I'm going to do loads of washing!

ilovemonstersInc · 11/06/2014 08:52

Good luck to you too horace. Im really thinking about elcs. Its just the recovery that im worried about. With dswho has sn and lots of hhospital appointments and will havr to do the school run etc need to be a bit more able to physical things sooner than 6 weeks like driving etc.he starts school in September and due date is 29th August but will ask to be either induced at 38weeks or elcs at 38weeks as im huge now, spd kicking in a lot and lots of anxiety about the birth due to last time. Hes fully cooked at 37 weeks so im happy to have him out as its safer for me too. The longer hes in the bigger the placenta site and the higher risk of pph again and I cam get settled back into home life easier rather than havingto think about school too.

Nice to know shes ok. Let her know I said hi please.
It wasn't too bad here weather wise yesterday. It supposed to be sunny today but already theres clouds out

HungryHorace · 11/06/2014 10:34

I'm sure in your situation they'll be happy to do an ELCS at 38 weeks. They just prefer to avoid steroid use if possible, hence 39 weeks being the NICE guidance now, as they think babies don't need steroids at that point.

I think I'll be looking at 39 weeks. I can't see any reason why I'd get 38.

You can drive sooner than 6 weeks if you're up to it. Just check with your insurer if they have a policy.

I'll tell Disney you said hi. :-)

ilovemonstersInc · 11/06/2014 11:32

I have big babies too. The last1 was an oz of 9lb and the placenta wasnt too far of that either! I cant do with the stress of thinking whats going to happen when I deliver. It really does scare me. After having ds I would cry when my periods came as I was still losing clots and it just bought everything back each month.
Ive put a face full of makeup on as I know im less likely to cry when speaking to the dr. Shes really lovely. I hope it's her rather than another dr.

mssleepyhead · 11/06/2014 12:56

Amazing to hear how close some are to meeting their little ones!

Ended up in hospital last night after more brown spotting. Called the delivery ward for reassurance and they asked me to go in for monitoring so spent an hour or so being prodded and strapped to monitors. Reassuring to be checked out but did panic me a little being on a labour ward. Lots of groaning!

Bump was commented on as being big too - 3cm over the expected fundal height so far. Wondering if this will lead to a growth scan? Got a private one booked in for a couple of weeks so that'll give some clues I guess!

HungryHorace · 11/06/2014 15:00

I have a date...which I'm not going public with though! I've been outed on here before so I'm wary how much info I give out. It's when you'd expect though. :-)

Baby feels 'a good size'. Dr code for 'you're having a hefty one!'

Suppose I should get cracking on finishing my cross stitch now!

ilovemonstersInc · 11/06/2014 19:23

Baby was fine apart from measuring a few weeks ahead. He's around 3lb atm Shock

birth plan hasnt been done as main notes werent there. She did recommend vb as the reason I pph the risk is increased with elcs. So atm she said theres a med I can have up bum to help the cause of the bleed and make it a mkre pro active labour? I dunno what that means im sure someone will tell me.

I have another scan in a months time. Mw in 2 weeks and then scan and consultant with full notes for proper birth plan. She didnt say anything about being induced early (which is good I hope as she didnt say no)

so if all goes well will hopefully have baby here in less than 10week

horace glad you got a date today!

Msleepy glad to know everything is well with baba x

Secretlypregnant · 16/06/2014 14:22

How's everyone doing? I'm definitely feeling the last trimester knackeredness now! PGP is making doing everything that much harder too, but I have a physio appointment on Thursday, which really helped last time. Oh, and whooping cough vaccination on Wednesday.

I can't believe that somewhere in the next 6-10 weeks I am going to be having a baby! Still in denial. Smile

Lots of DIY, decorating and house plans going on at the moment. I keep changing my mind about what I want, though.

Hope all August babies are behaving themselves.

Loujim2 · 16/06/2014 18:53

Hi secretly! Tiredness is really settling in again for me! pgp has been a problem for me too. I started an aqua natal class last week which is basically yoga in water. So relaxing and just for that hour I have no pain! Finishing work in 3 and a bit weeks, then got 6 weeks (hopefully) me time before the wee man arrives! Is this your first? x

mssleepyhead · 16/06/2014 19:02

Hello all,
Shattered here too, but seems different to first trimester shatteredness in that then I could get to bed at 9pm and sleep for 12 hours whereas now I go to bed, can't get comfy, worry about if he's moving or not, suddenly remember I haven't squeezed my pelvic floors today and try to do those, get annoyed at DH's sleeping, need the loo, get up... Aaaaaand repeat! Good job the end is in sight : ) 5 and a bit weeks in school to go and in 10-12 weeks I should have a son!

Going for a check up at the fetal medical centre on Saturday to see how he is and check growth as midwives so far have been saying my bump is big but not checking me in for any growth scans so I just want to see how big big is...! But really I'm hoping seeing a properly growing baby will just help a bit with the disconnect I'm feeling at the moment with the wiggles in my tummy and the crib in my nursery. I can't really believe what's in here in a baby...

Hope everyone else is doing ok!

topmammy · 16/06/2014 19:17

I have felt super tired and out of breath pretty much all day today but managed to get through a whole day at work with 5 year olds somehow!
Have been feeling pretty good overall though so hope it's just a Monday thing! (Wishful thinking I know lol)

Got my whooping cough jab booked for next week too.

Slowly getting there with the nursery, just need to put up the wardrobe now. Realised though that our cot doesn't have drop down sides, which I never even thought about tbh until a couple of family members mentioned it. Oh well! You can change the level of the mattress which will be fine until baby can pull herself up.

5 weeks of work to go! Then hopefully about 6 or so weeks until baby arrives. Eeeeeeek!! Can't believe how quick this is happening!!

Loujim2 · 16/06/2014 19:20

I've got growth scan next week too! Cani wait to see my wee man again!
Have you had a whooping cough injection, just noticed in my notes the mw wrote I should have been offered at 28 weeks but she's never mentioned again!

HungryHorace · 16/06/2014 19:32

Lou, at my surgery you have to book the WC jab yourself with the practice nurse. Maybe call your surgery to check.

Mssleepyhead, I'm also measuring 4 weeks ahead, but the MW wasn't worried as baby feels big and DD was a large baby too.

I've got pelvic pain so I'm back to MW in 2 weeks and if it's worse (which she thinks it will be) then she'll refer me to the physio as well as back to the consultant to consider a 38 week ELCS instead of 39 weeks.

I really must get packing my hospital bag now. I'm starting to run out of time!

topmammy · 16/06/2014 19:32

lou don't know how it works in your area but in mine the nurse at gp surgery does the whooping cough jab and I had to ring and arrange it myself. MW said best to have it by 34weeks I think. Hope that helps you :)

Secretlypregnant · 16/06/2014 19:44

Loujim, no, this is my second, but the denial is just as strong if not more so this time around! So many people are so organised and there are some fabulous nursery pics on the FB site - I can't wait to be able to say I'm ready!

Same here too - you have to book the jab yourself.

Loujim2 · 16/06/2014 21:12

Ah right thank you! I'll phone my medical centre tomorrow and get the injection booked!
I've started getting my hospital bag ready now! Starting to feel so real now! But at the same time I can't believe we'll be bringing our wee baby boy home in around 10 weeks!
Nursery all done but we've started our spare room now! Wanted it all nice for our mums coming to visit when he's born! Wish I hadn't bothered now! It'll be lovely once finished but I can't be arsed painting now! Ha!

Boudica1990 · 16/06/2014 22:48

Hello all,

I am so sorry I vanished for ages!! I have had hell. Went in to pre-term at 24 weeks, luckily it was stalled. Had steroid injections for babies lungs just incase. I have since had 3 episodes of reduced movement, and baby is still not particularly moving much. DP has been deployed last minute so I feel all alone :(

I can't wait to get this baby out of me now, I am so fed up. I have terrible sciatic pain also and my pelvis hurts because baby is engaging constantly!

I just feel like crying some nights.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 17/06/2014 06:58

I'd been feeling knackered. MW told me last week tat my iron levels were low, but not so low I had to take iron tablets. On her recommendation I've been taking Spatone (irony liquid sachets you add to juice) and I think it's making a difference.

mssleepyhead · 17/06/2014 19:52

Oh Boudica you poor thing! What a traumatic time. But good news that they managed to keep the little one with you a bit longer; it will be doing them a lot of good. It must be awful being on your own too; I hope you've got some friends/family to support you. Remember, every day you're keeping going is a day stronger your little baby will be, so it will be worth it. Good luck x

ilovemonstersInc · 17/06/2014 20:12

Flowers boudica hope baby stays there til term!

Went upto local pharmacy for ds1 meds and pharmacist said ohh ive got a script here for some iron for you. I told the consultant time before last check my iron levels and she said no do it in a few days when you come back. I couldn't go back as I was ill so have had to wait. She could have done it that day and had results early and therefore I could have beem started on iron earlier too. I become extremely anaemic during pregnancy to the point where I need iron drips and physically can't get up no matter whatneeds doing. That's how ive felt and now im on same dose of iron as I was postnatal with ds2 after a pph!
