Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

thanks ladies, aware I'm just venting right now. What I really want is a giant glass of vino and a cry! we sort of knew there was a restructure in mind, but various things have happened today which make me think that redundancies will very likely be on the cards. I thought I might have come back to a different job, but now I'm wondering if there will be one I can even apply to! argh. And key people are leaving so I'm concerned there won't be anyone who knows me and knows my skills left by the time I return. Maybe it's an opportunity to do something different, though for the first time in my life I feel like I actually want that stability of not having to learn anything new!!

ItsSoFluffyImGonnaDie · 02/05/2014 17:17

Oh that's rubbish, fingers crossed it doesn't happen Sad

DuPainDuVinDuFromage · 02/05/2014 17:56

That's rubbish flymo, hope it doesn't happen. Do you have any idea what the redundancy package might be like if your suspicions are correct? Hopefully it will give you a decent cushion for a few months.

Jenbee1 · 02/05/2014 18:40

Flymo I know if feels really stressful right now but all the people I know that have been made redundant say it's the best thing that's happened to them. My best friend was made redundant just before she had her first and she got enough to spend a bit longer on mat leave and gone freelance so she can spend more time with her lo

weeza13 · 02/05/2014 21:54

Thanks for the new thread, flymo, timing is rotten although I don't know a good time to face redundancy, hope you don't get stressed and something will work out. Is anyone able to help me join the fb group as I am being harrassed to sit with my feet up but get bored very quickly so am spending more time on internet whilst trying not to buy things on ebay. Brought box of childrens clothes hangers yesterday and am stupidly excited about them arriving so I can hang up all the outfits we have been given. Anyone else made 'random but very very essential at the time' purchases?

topmammy · 02/05/2014 22:04

Ooh baby hangers, haven't thought of those! I haven't bought anything random yet but did get ridiculously excited when buying my first lot of baby wipes!

I think my baby may have done a somersault today lol I suddenly (in the middle of teaching maths) felt this almighty kick/movement/something!, totally shocked me and I just said oooooh! mid sentence and nearly jumped out my chair haha. All movement I've felt prior to that has been quite gentle really so it was a bit of a shock!

Hope everyone has a good bank holiday weekend :)

Secretlypregnant · 03/05/2014 09:55

weeza13, if you send me a private message on here with your email address and a description of your photo, I can add you to the group.

topmammy, hilarious to think of you sitting in class and exclaiming! What did the students say?

I haven't bought anything, although don't need much as it's baby number 2. I'm majorly stressing out about space though. I was hoping we could get the loft converted but it's not going to happen before the baby comes, and I am not prepared to put up with the upheaval afterwards. AND we can't afford it.

So I have a couple of alternative ideas, but DH completely disagrees with me. He thinks we can accommodate all the extra clothes and nappies and baby paraphernalia in our wardrobes/chests of drawers and then the fact that the baby is sleeping in with us means that nothing else needs to be thought about. I am thinking beyond the first six months and I remember how much space we needed last time!

Argh!

Loads and loads of incredibly stressful conversations where we just end up disagreeing and then nothing gets done, and there are only three months to go.

The loft is rammed with stuff that needs sorting through and he doesn't want to do it unless there is somewhere else to store the stuff afterwards, and there isn't. I can't physically get up there and get everything down by myself.

Sorry to rant - just having a really difficult few days because of all this.

mssleepyhead · 03/05/2014 10:39

flymo, i'm so sorry to hear about that work stress : ( not what you need... it's happened to a close friend of mine too and she's ended up taking really early maternity leave because of it, so she can just get out of the stressful work place and relax. there wasn't much point in her being there. might be something to consider.

secretly - i'm also having a saturday morning freak out about baby stuff. in fact i only just learnt that instead of just buying a car seat you also have to buy a base, doubling the cost. heck. did not know about that. our baby budget is going crazy... : (

saying that - i don't know if anyone is interested in getting one of these but the nct shop is having a £50 off flash sale on their bed nest. apparently it's a two-day sale thing, so worth getting now if you want it. www.nctshop.co.uk/NCT-Bednest-Bedside-Crib/productinfo/4364/
(is it too early for such things? there's so much to buy i feel like i have to start soon, but at the same time i don't know if i'm being a bit silly starting at 24 weeks.)

Secretlypregnant · 03/05/2014 10:46

mssleepyhead, strangely comforting to hear that someone else is stressing about this stuff! Re car seats, you don't have to buy a base. We didn't with DD - just had a Maxi-Cosi that fitted with a seatbelt.

ilovemonstersInc · 03/05/2014 11:17

I didn't buy the base just fitted it with seat belt.

Sorry to those who are having a bad time. Think its 2nd trimesterly stress.

Dh is off work today and so I have a chance to go out anf get some proper bras. I was explaining about mastitis etc and that I want to exclusively bf no.3 he just pulled a face and said I dont believe it can be done. I was really poorly last time at delivery, baby was given a bottle first and offered breastfeed at around 6hours old. I couldn't physically give him me first as I had surgeons working on me and I was in and out of conciseness. Ds2 stopped mixed feeding at 3months as he preferred bottle and I tried to pump but got nothing more than an oz each time. It's really upset me that he doesn't believe I will..if I had the choice I would still be breastfeeding. He doesnt know how much its upset me, in another room with tears down my face at all the raw memories.

weeza13 · 03/05/2014 11:56

Oh dear monster. A bit of support would be nice but he prob has no idea how you really feel. I am really hoping to bf but all I keep hearing is how much it hurts and for ages but will still try, dh says he would prefer baby to be bf but also says its another thing to feel excluded from where as he can do bottle feeds and get more bonding time. Hope you work it out.

topmammy · 03/05/2014 13:17

secretly my class just laughed with me after I explained what baby was doing, they're only Year 1 but surprisingly sweet about my baby!

Re. car seat... Im probably going to be getting the mothercare xpedior travel system which comes with a car seat that straps in via seat belt. Baby won't be in it very long so seems the most cost effective way for me.

I really want to breastfeed but it's a bit worrying how much I seem to hear about how difficult it can be.... My mum is planning on staying overnight in hospital with me to be on hand for feeding support as theres no support really at night for it at my hospital. I'm lucky that she's a MW though and just been on a refresher breast feeding training course!

mssleepy I'm thinking of getting that bednest too but also feel it might be too early. I was wondering whether to rent one instead actually, then no need to find somewhere to store it afterwards. Choices choices!! We'll all get there in the end I'm sure :)

HungryHorace · 03/05/2014 13:43

We rented a bed nest and then bought it because I was pregnant again and it was more cost effective as they will buy it back with a couple of years for half the purchase price. The knocked the price of the rental off the purchase, and there was also a sale on too, so got a touch more off.

It is a brilliant bit of kit and I loved having DD right next to me in bed. :-)

WRT car seats, my DH won't let us use a seat belt installation; it has to be isofix. DD had a Silver Cross Ventura, but we sold that with the pram and got a Britax Baby Safe with the pram we bought to replace it. I then bought an isofix base for it.

They go up to 13kg, I think, and baby should be in it until at least 9 months, so it's not that short a time.

We bought DD an ERF seat when she was a few months old, so she'll be rear facing up to 4 years old. That has isofix built in so doesn't need a base.

neddle · 03/05/2014 21:50

We're still using our first stage car seat for my 2.5yo son. He only weighs 11kg as he's on the 9th centile and still fits in it.
We only use it once a week in Grandma's car though, not every day.

mssleepyhead · 03/05/2014 23:07

These car seat complications are why I gave up looking and went to buy books instead : ) but I did buy a bed nest. Expensive but decided that we will hopefully be using it for a second baby too, and as a travel cot for a while, plus the resale value on eBay looks even better than the buy back scheme. I'm really excited to start using it : )

Baby is 24 weeks today, so hit the "viable" stage! I didn't realise how much I'd been holding out for this in my head. Suddenly shopping feels a lot more ok...

HungryHorace · 03/05/2014 23:11

What are they selling for on eBay, mssleepyhead? Interesting if they sell well.

24 weeks is a big milestone, isn't it?

lucyfluff · 04/05/2014 08:31

oooo checking in..missed the end of the last thread!

How is everyone not on fbk?? hope you are ok Smile Flymo...what was your due date? sorry I have a rubbish memory!!

24+1 today so glad to have this milestone, struggling with my back but feeling ok despite this. We dont have much baby related bits to sort out, most is from DS 3 and will be fine, just purchased new dummies, muslins, bottles, and a few clothes Smile everything seems so little though!!

ilovemonstersInc · 04/05/2014 08:33

I cant wait to be 24weeks! Like horace said its such a big milestone.

My nephew is a 24weeker! It amazes me to see how far he's got! And to think you can still have an abortion until 24weeks at which point with medical help a baby can survive.

After that little episode yesterday I couldn't sleep worrying about the birth :( doesn't help that im on the injections too as I dread them they hurt loads.
I have my driving test in 3weeks! Eeeek been practicing lots and lots!

topmammy · 04/05/2014 15:02

I'll be 24weeks on Tuesday. Didn't realise it was such a milestone! That's nice to know.

Can't decide whether to buy a bednest or not!? Are they worth the money or would a cheaper gliding crib be just as good?

It must be hard not to worry after what you've already experienced ilove. I'm a total newbee to birth so can't really say anything helpful apart from try not to worry too much as it will just make you feel worse (easy for me to say I know!) :)

Anyone needing to have a nap in the afternoons? Every day about 3ish I am soo tired and struggle to keep my eyes open. Obviously can't nap at work which is a shame haha. Might have a nap now actually...

HungryHorace · 04/05/2014 15:25

Are you having an ELCS, Monsters, or isn't it decided yet? Maybe you could try to get it booked in so you don't have anxiety about a vaginal birth any more. Or are you generally worried because of your DS? I hope you can start to relax soon.

I had clexane (?) injections after my section last time and DH had to administer them into my tummy as there's no way I could've done it.

I'd go for the bednest, mammy, I think it's great. You could always hire one then buy it later if you like it, which is what I did. :-)

I don't nap often it has to be said, but 3pm is a killer time, I agree.

eurochick · 04/05/2014 15:37

We're planning to rent a bednest.

We just ventured into our first baby shop, so we've broken that duck! We didn't buy anything though. BIL has said he will donate us a travel system frame, so we will just need to get a car seat and carrycot to fit on that. We can figure out a buggy down the line.

I get tired in the evenings but don't feel the need to nap during the days. I have never been a napper.

ilovemonstersInc · 04/05/2014 15:54

Horace I suffer from keloids too and im worried my scar would turn into one. They just keep growing and are so painful. I would like a section if I was able to get up and about and be as normal as possible. I was watching obem and I would love to just give birth, no complications and get on with it. Literally for the first 2 months im ill. With vaginal I don't have to worry about section wound. With section dont have to worry about doing all the work.
Dm thinks I should have elcs but dh thinks in the long run the recovery will be worse which im almost agreeing to.

topmammy · 04/05/2014 16:16

I'm thinking of going for the rental option of a bednest now so I can try it out and as you say hungry buy it if I wanted to. hungry & Euro did you upgrade to the natural mattress or have the one it comes with?

HungryHorace · 04/05/2014 16:45

We kept the mattress that comes with it. We only use it for night sleeping, and it's fine.

At least if you rent the bednest then buy it, they knock the price of the rental off the purchase. So you don't lose anything by trying before buying, as it were!

I'm not a napper either as I feel sick when I wake. I think I napped once last pregnancy. And I had a nap the other week after an awful night with DD and I just couldn't stay awake. I've never felt tiredness like the tiredness I've had through this pregnancy. Having a small baby plus being pregnant is something else!
