isean im so glad you are home. and yes im panicking now too as we have nothing ready so im going to have to be really strict with myself not to try and do everything in a day in panic when I get home! I have spent my hospital stay buying the last bits we need online though so at least I can avoid long shopping trips and heavy bags. x

Bornin1984 · 03/04/2014 13:39

Been to see orthopaedics today regarding sensations in my hand or lack of.... Carpal tunnel! His remedy..... Get the baby out!!!

We're not counting oh no....!Wink

Squiffie · 03/04/2014 14:41

Mrsfoo, nanny, bornin and anyone else with diabetes/GD...
Have you been given an induction/planned section date as a result of having diabetes or have other factors been involved? I'm sure you've probably mentioned things along the way but I can't remember Hmm

Also, if you know the date already, how many weeks will you be at the time? None of this has really been discussed by my diabetic team yet and not seeing themagain until next Wednesday (I'll be 33 weeks exactly). Just wondering as well if there's a 'policy' within your local area that GD mums are not allowed to go 'overdue' or if it's all based on the individual not that I think that happens in the NHS anymore thank you in advance for any info anyone has to offer!

On the cloth nappy front - I plan to use cloth! Part time cloth bummed dd and hoping to manage full-time cloth with this one! I have bambino mio prefolds and a bunch of 'one size' pocket nappies of varying makes.

Jellymum1 · 03/04/2014 14:43

yeyyyyy im going hoooommmmmmmmeeeeee ??

Bornin1984 · 03/04/2014 14:43

I'm having my elcs on 14th as my fasting blood sugars are nowhere near what they want, I'll be 36+5, they originally wanted to do elcs at 37+6 .... Also tummy size is just off the 95th centile x

Squiffie · 03/04/2014 14:49

Congrats on going home jelly, take it easy!!

Hope you've managed to rest today isean.

Has baby moved at all moomin or have you gone to the day unit?

Thanks Bornin, that's so soon, eek. I'm hoping they tell me they want to induce but from a purely selfish 'I'm fed up and had enough' point of view! It'll still be over a month away anyway as not due until 28/5. I'm so impatient. Good luck with your ELCS. Are you all ready for little ones arrival?!

Squiffie · 03/04/2014 14:50

My little one's tummy is just under 95th.

MrsFooCough · 03/04/2014 15:07

squiff I'm due 31st May and all I was told by the consultant as I was basically spun round and got out of her room quicker than I could say "wtf is going on" was "we won't be letting you go overdue, now you're starting the metformin then you'll be probably induced at 39/40wks, I'm not concerned about the scan report (the ultrasound technician said that both tummy and amniotic fluid were "the top end of normal range" and I was 30+4 at the time) and I don't want to see you again until you're 34wks and you've had another scan, ok bye then nice to meet you"
Hmm did she have time to breathe I wonder?
So I only know that I'll def be being induced (unless Bean comes out early of his/her own accord). I don't have any idea that's more specific than "39-40wks" which is obv a span of 7days so not v helpful. I doubt they'll tell me anything more until 36wks which is SO UNHELPFUL FOR POOR DH TRYING TO BOOK HIS PATERNITY LEAVE. He's getting the usual 2wks but he's augmenting it with 10days of annual leave so he ends up with 4wks with us, which is lovely. But he's essentially a head of department which means he's needed by everybody all the time and he needs to tell them pretty much now when he's going to be gone. I told him tell them not to expect him to be available for any big meetings etc from 17th May, as I think Bean will be a Chunky Monkey and coming at maybe 37/38wks as I'm already on 1000mg metformin daily and I'm not even 32wks yet. I know that insulin resistance can only get worse naturally as the last 8wks go on, so I'm expecting to be on almost the maximum dose in about 4wks or so.

NannyPlumForPM · 03/04/2014 15:17

My first consultant appt after I was diagnosed gd said 'we won't let you go overdue' I was 33 weeks- a bit of a rush in rush out job. Next one I was 35 weeks and had just gone onto insulin.

Due to being on insulin I am going to be induced (no other factors- bp fine etc) at 38+0 weeks. She then told this to the midwife who went and got the induction book and has booked me in for the 20th April. (Sooooooooo sooooon!)

I think there is a 'one size fits all' approach regarding gd and not letting you go overdue. Not designed to be scary but I think the chance of placental detatchment and consequential still birth increases after due date with gd. Also chance of having massive baby etc- luckily mine looks ok on growth scans- spot on 50th centile :)

MoominIsWaitingToMeetHerMiniMe · 03/04/2014 15:27

On the ward... Hopefully just a case of see doctor and go home :/

MrsFooCough · 03/04/2014 15:52

Oh nanny I can only hope for such a speedy conclusive answer. I'm almost hoping that when I go next Wednesday to see the midwife and diabetic nurse that they say "up the metformin to 500mg 3/4x daily" because that'll mean the consultant will want to see me sooner than 34wks. I'm so sick of this "you'll be induced but we won't know exactly when until possibly 3 weeks before it might need doing"
I'm going absolutely spare about it! But the management of GD is so much dependent on how your body is coping week-by-week that I suppose they daren't make any solid conclusions until the very last minute. Scary to think that at my next consultant appt they might well say "baby is giant, your sugars aren't managed well enough, we need to induce at 37/8" and I'll have less than a fortnight to get DH organised and a hospital bag finally packed and in the car! Eek! Of course at 34wks they may well say "you're doing fine with sugars, baby's still within normal range of size and amniotic fluid levels on the scan report, you'll be induced 39wks" and then DH will have enough time to organise his pat leave Smile that'd be nice!

wm3010 · 03/04/2014 15:55

Keeping fingers crossed for you moomin

CurlsLDN · 03/04/2014 15:57

moomin I hope baby starts doing the can can soon. It's all so worrying isnt it?

eggs I can't get enough milk! I don't usually drink it, we never buy it at home. Now I'm making a jug of decaf iced latte and drinking 3 glasses with breakfast each day! Osteoporosis runs in the ladies of my family, I wonder if that's linked to my calcium binge? (Might go and make some heavily buttered toast...)

bush id not heard of that technique before. Isn't it amazing how many methods there are out there? I don't think it would go down too well with our landlord and cream carpets though!

Exciting deliveries today, our babystyle oyster travel system has arrived and I can't wait for DH to get home so we can play with it. I also got a changing bag, I went for the babymel cara as its v roomy but also v light, and I love the navy nautical stripes!

MrsFooCough · 03/04/2014 15:57

Oh moom please forgive my indulgent rants about My Problems I had completely forgotten you were in this af'noon xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Isean · 03/04/2014 16:05

Hope you & baby are ok Moomin

Unfortunately for me, no luck in speaking to the consultant or getting a date. I'm booked in for monitoring, a presentation check & possible scan to check position on Tuesday when I'll be 37 weeks. So I was told I have to wait until then. I understand that it is reasonable & sensible as anything could happen between now & then, but I am still feeling a bit fed up! I am impatient, so now I focus on Tuesday & see what happens, it'll be no longer than 2 weeks until baby arrives anyway!

MoominIsWaitingToMeetHerMiniMe · 03/04/2014 16:11

Thanks everyone... Its 3rd episode of DFM now :( its been quiet the past couple of days. I'm worried but just want to go home :(

Flixy102 · 03/04/2014 16:33

squiffie I've got GD and was told on Tuesday (at 35 weeks) that I'll be induced at between 38 and 39 weeks but that at my next app in 2 weeks I'll have a sweep done to try and encourage natural labour.

dobedobedo · 03/04/2014 16:37

moomin hope everything is okay and you get home soon!

When I saw my midwife the other day, she said baby was measuring 2 weeks bigger than dates (only two weeks before he was measuring average for dates) and I'm not seeing her again until 39 weeks. I haven't had a scan since 20 weeks. It's making me a bit anxious as I think anything could have happened in the last 15 weeks baby wise! Has anyone else not had a scan since then?

pickletalk14 · 03/04/2014 16:40

Sorry to hear about those that are suffering. I'm obsessed with food (even when not pg) so coping with GD sounds awful :-(

Anyone under mw care... how often are your appointments now? Saw my mw this morning (33w today) and she doesn't want to see me for another 4 weeks.. looking at the NHS website it should have increased to 2 weekly by now? I can't complain really everything is going well so I don't want to make a fuss but wondered what others were getting?

dobedobedo · 03/04/2014 16:50

pickle I saw mine yesterday and I'm not seeing her again until I'm 39 weeks - so in a month! I can go and see her if I have any concerns though. I also think I should probably see her more.

Chip86 · 03/04/2014 16:53

Hope baby kicks for you soon moomin

loopylou52 · 03/04/2014 17:37

My mw appointments are every 2 weeks now, though a couple of them will be with gp (shared care model here).

Had my growth scan today. Baby is measuring under 5th percentile overall, having been slightly above average at 20 week scan. Hmm They don't seem overly concerned about it but want me to go back in two weeks for a follow up so they can check baby is still growing ok.

Hope all is ok with baby and you get to go home soon moomin.

moobaloo · 03/04/2014 17:43

Hi all! Wow just had to read 6 pages as not had internet for a couple of days. You guys are so chatty! I love it though

Moomin, hope all is well and you are home soon xxx

Dobe, I've not had a scan since 20 weeks but am now having mw visits every two weeks. It's my first though and I think you get more then? Seems odd not to have one until 39 weeks though, you could have had the baby by then!

Big hugs to all of you with GD it sounds awful!

So exciting for those of you with induction/ELCS dates! Can't wait for the babies to start coming!

Am getting fed up now as sitting down is uncomfy because feet are under ribs and he keeps stretching! Standing and walking are I comfy because he seems to grate on my bladder and I have to pee every ten minutes if I walk around Hmm but can't really complain because I'm pretty well overall!

33+3!

bushprincess · 03/04/2014 17:46

hey all,

Hope you get some reassurance and mini-moom gets a wiggle on in there moomin

Sorry to hear your frustrations mrsfoo hope your blood sugar stabilises so they can tell you 39 weeks and give your DH a chance to plan

isean I hope you can keep calm till tues and things become clearer after that

jelly so pleased you're home!

squiffe will be interesting to see what they decide on weds - looks like there are as many different plans as there are people with GD on here....

dobe and pickle waiting a month seems ages to go without seeing anyone - but if that means low risk and all is going well then it's a silver lining - I'll be slotting back into NHS next week (35wks) and assume I'll probably only get one or 2 checks before bushbaby arrives which will be a change from my 2 weekly check-ups here (although tbh he manages to get me in and out the door within about 2minutes after a quick poke at my belly and feel of my ankles and a 'you're normal-anyquestions-no?-that'll be $50, thanks -bye'!!!) so maybe not the most thorough of care!!

curls so many interesting ideas out there... am not saying this will work for us but I'm keen to give it a go! But yep, can see that it wouldn't necessarily mix with cream carpets!!!

bushprincess · 03/04/2014 17:50

Hey loopy good to hear they weren't concerned, but can I ask why you had a growth scan? I hadn't realised that it was standard to have any scans after 20wks (hopeful question that maybe I'll get to have another peak when I get home!!!)

moob the bouncing on bladder while we're walking is rather a pain isn't it!!
