Hello everyone, I love all these Maybie babies popping up everywhere!
Is anyone else looking at them and comparing to what must be in our tums right now? I can't believe there is a fully cooked little man in there! (37 today)

Yesterday I went to the park with a friend who had a baby last year. We spent a good few hours sitting in the sun talking all things baby, which was wonderful!

I can't remember, have any of the ladies who've given birth already used the water bath at all? If so how did you find it?

ohdearitshappeningtome · 17/04/2014 08:26

Have a lovely day ladiesxxxxx

PixieBumbles · 17/04/2014 10:46

Well there are plus sides to having the opposite of my original birth plan. I kept my Dh and midwife entertained with my diamorphine and entonox induced hallucinations- apparently everyone in the room was dressed as The Beatles, I was warning Dh to watch out because he was going to faceplant at the Sex and the City garden party, I was convinced I was going to sink through the bed, and I kept falling asleep and snoring between contractions because I already hadn't slept properly in days and was exhausted! Plus side to the epidural was having a rather handsome anaesthetist run ice cubes over my body to check how well the epidural had taken. There's even a plus side to the tear, I don't thubk my diet has ever been so healthy!

No one can say I can't look for positives!

NannyPlumForPM · 17/04/2014 11:33

Getting nervous now! Doesn't seem like I'll have a baby in 3 days.... Just want the diabetes to go away!

Got so much that can go wrong with the I.p. , diabetes, talipes and goodness knows what else :s

Good luck everyone else and congrats on your gorgeous babies those who have had already!!!

bushprincess · 17/04/2014 12:11

huge congrats and speedy recoveries pixie and psynl!! So exciting!!

welcome to the party grainof and biscuitnoodle as you can see it's getting exciting round here!!

LTT did the BH tail off ok over night??

nanny hope you're feeling ok today - don't get nervous, your LO will be just great! sending you hugs

moomin35 · 17/04/2014 12:27

Have been lurking for a while! Hope everyones doing well :-) hobbjobb do you know on what grounds they decide to induce you? Is that something to do with your diabetes you mention or the size of baby at 34 weeks?

moomin35 · 17/04/2014 12:29

MrsFooCough how are you feeling? We're due on the same day!! :-)

MrsFooCough · 17/04/2014 12:36

Yay moomin35 due date buddies!!! Although I'm getting induced early, so actual birth dates are a bit up in the air innit! Re symptoms, I've noticed that my hip pain (not PGP or SPD, pre-existing sacroiliac joint problem due to a fractured coccyx at 8yrs old) has got easier to manage, which is nice!
On a less positive note, I've been having rotten Braxton Hicks contractions which are hard to talk through and are starting to get painful and involve some pelvic pressure (eek) and I've never felt so enormous! My bump is almost numb actually, very odd, if I have an itch I'll try to scratch it but I won't really feel anything...maybe all my nerves are too far apart now! Haha!!

nanny try not to worry, the best thing for miniplum is to be monitored, and a hospital birth is nothing if not monitored up to the eyeballs!

sambababy · 17/04/2014 13:07

Morning all and hello newbies!

I'm feeling a bit sorry for myself today. Our situation is that if nothing drastically improves with the baby's size in the next 2wks, I'll be induced before 40wks, and I'm gutted. I desperately didn't want to be induced, especially as this is my first, but I realise it seems selfish to complain about it as so many of you seem to be booked for induction too and seem totally fine with it.

I keep telling myself I just have to do whatever they say, they know best, it's for the baby etc. I am entitled to say no but would never forgive myself if something happened because of it. I shall spend today shedding a tear and sulking over the loss of my birth plan then hopefully pull myself together and get on with it.

As I said, sorry for the winge. I know this doesn't even compare to what some of you are going through.

bushprincess · 17/04/2014 14:03

samba don't beat yourself up for feeling like that at all! Its such a journey getting to this point and we all have so many differing feelings and expectations surrounding birth and spend so much time trying to get the birth we want that of course it's really hard when things change and you feel your control slipping away from you. Especially knowing you're away from 'home' and were very keen to avoid too much intervention.

Go with your gut and I'm sure whatever decision you make will be the best one, winge to us when you need and talk with your partner alot, don't feel you have to keep things bottled up, that way PND lies... Good luck Thanks

moobaloo · 17/04/2014 14:03

You have an excellent positive attitude pixie! At least your baby is here and you are both safe and well! The hardest thing is to adjust to a change in plans and I think you did brilliantly!

Hugs nanny everything will be fine and you'll have a baby so soon!

samba is your baby measuring small? I can't keep track of everyone! I have my growth scan for small bump next week and if they suggest a slightly early induction I'll be secretly thrilled! I think you have to focus on the positives, at least you'll have a day to fixate on, not be hanging around at 41+3 hoping something's about to happen (one of my worries!) plus you'll get to snuggle your baby that bit earlier and if he or she is a tad on the small side it might be an easier birth! As long as baby's healthy it doesn't matter how it happens, IMO Smile

It's best to be prepared, so feel free to be sad about the potential loss of your plan! But at least you'll be prepared for it if it does happen (and it might not!) rather than having a massive shock to the system if the plan has to change at last minute!

Xxxx

loopylou52 · 17/04/2014 14:04

samba - sorry to hear this. Have they said this following your scan yesterday? Of course all that matters in the end is the baby arriving safely, but that doesn't mean you don't have every right to grieve over the birth experience you were hoping for so you need to allow yourself to feel that way. Thanks

I had good news at my scan this morning - they're satisfied with baby's growth so no need to go back for more scans. It did demonstrate how inaccurate some of the measurements must be though - head circumference was below 5th percentile two weeks ago and is now apparently above 20th percentile! Hmm Good luck to the others of you with scans.

I'm not sure if I've said congratulations to pixie yet (getting myself confused with the influx of babies!) so huge congrats to you!! Sorry it didn't go how you'd hoped but good to hear you're thinking of the positives and hope you're recovering ok.

moas · 17/04/2014 14:57

Samba I went through exactly that with my DS and totally sympathise with your emotions! It's so unfair and not something that you could have done anything to prevent! In my case people kept making insensitive comments because I'm quite skinny "Oh you're TINY!" etc. I get that in this current pregnancy too, only I know that this time baby is above average so it's easier to shake off. I really struggled with DS, was so worried those last few weeks, you have every right to feel sorry for yourself! Fx for a good induction if it comes to that. X

sambababy · 17/04/2014 15:57

Thanks guys. You are absolutely right, I should focus on the positives. Whilst I might have to spend longer in hospital and probably need an epidural, I will meet my baby sooner & my MIL won't spend 2wks asking if I've gone into labour yet Grin And all the best laid plans often go awry anyway.

I never realised when I joined MN and this thread how helpful it would be emotionally. I don't have any mummy friends here so I really appreciate all the support.

loopy I'm so pleased you had some good news at your scan!

pixie I also can't remember if I congratulated you! I hope you are recovering well.

nanny are you having an Easter baby? Easter Smile

hobbjobb · 17/04/2014 16:09

moomin35 my GD has become unmanageable by diet alone so I am now on metformin. My hospital induce at 38 weeks if you are on medication (metformin or insulin)
Also I had a growth scan and baby's abdomen was off the scale but we are hoping everything will catch up and even out by the time they induce me which will be in 3-4 weeks. Eek! I am 34+4 today.
How are you getting on?

Haven't read rest of thread yet but congrats to these babies coming thick and fast!

moomin35 · 17/04/2014 16:18

Ooh lucky MrsFooCough, i kind of wish i was so i didnt have to wait so long!

moomin35 · 17/04/2014 16:19

that's interesting hobjobb im clueless when it comes to when they induce and when they dont (as you can probably tell!). Im only 33+5 but have had enough already!

MrsFooCough · 17/04/2014 18:32

Hey hobb I'm getting on really well on my increased metformin, don't feel that you've somehow failed to manage your GD properly (which I felt for a good few weeks) because my consultant reassured me that some women can sail by on diet management alone, others on minimal metformin and bad diet! And still others can have brilliant diet and still have to go on metformin and insulin. Our pancreases and placental hormones are beyond our control, so don't beat yourself up.
My obstetrician is saying induce at 39/40 if on metformin, I'm almost hoping I go on insulin so I can meet Bean sooner! ~daft and not-too-serious comment klaxon~

Oh and DH tweeted earlier that the posh bakery below where he works in London were basically giving away their unsold stock at closing today (he's on late shift tonight) so he had GORGEOUS CUPCAKES. Not that I'm jealous or anything silently seethes

Also also I need some feedback on a cake idea - yes I have kind of gone cake-mad since I can't have any...this is for once the baby arrives!
DH, DMum and I all love Bounty choc bars, so I thought "would this work??":
Layers of sponge cake flavoured with coconut essence alternated with a moist coconut ice mix, top layer of the sponge, then COVER IT WITH ACTUAL REAL MELTED ACTUAL CHOCOLATE NOT STUPID DIABETIC CHOCOLATE

So whaddaya think? salivates

dobedobedo · 17/04/2014 19:10

samba just want to echo what the others said. It's totally understandable to be gutted you aren't getting the birth you want. I was induced with ds and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. And the not having a constantly hovering MIL is a definite plus! Smile

I had a growth scan earlier. Baby was measuring big a couple of weeks ago, but this week he was measuring smaller than before. Everything is fine though. Baby weighs approx 6lbs 8oz now, he's on track to weigh about 8lbs ish when he's born. I probably only measured big because I was so swollen from working so much before!

Oh also he was fully engaged! But with this baby, that means nothing. He bobs up and down like a yoyo! Grin

dobedobedo · 17/04/2014 19:11

mrsfoo that cake sounds AMAZING. Send me some! Grin

MrsFooCough · 17/04/2014 19:15

Just realised I've been incredibly self-centred and not even acknowledged samba - I am so sorry for you not being allowed the same birth plan you'd dreamed of. I have always wanted an epidural so I don't know much about more personal natural methods of childbirth but I'm sure it means a lot to people to be as comfortable as they can be, physically and emotionally. Maybe just remember that when healthy little baby samba arrives and you have a lifetime of wonderful motherhood ahead of you, you'll just be grateful they're safe and healthy, and probably won't even remember much about the birth! Lots and lots of love xxxxxxxxxx and Bounty choc bar cake if you like cake/coconut/choclit xxxxxxxxxxxx

MoominAndMiniMoom · 17/04/2014 19:25

quick selfish post - second timers, i know afterpains are normal but theyve been getting worse today, im feeling run down and hot and uncomfortable and havent been able to straighten all the way up today because of it hurting. Are these normal afterpains or should I be concerned? And its a week now since she was born.

hobbjobb · 17/04/2014 19:38

Thanks mrsfoo I was feeling a bit shit about it but really excited to meet baby sooner! even 38 weeks feels like ages away I am the size of a house and feeling really uncomfortable now!

That cake sounds disgusting but I hate coconut (it's the devils food) so don't take my opinion on it too seriously Grin

dobedobedo · 17/04/2014 19:39

Moomin, do you have a high temp? Call your midwife. This happened to me and I had a tiny bit of placenta left inside (it was the size of a coin) and it caused an infection and I needed antibiotics. Your midwife or doctor should be able to help you.

How's baby Callie? Thanks

CbeebiesIsAboutToPop · 17/04/2014 19:59

Moomin call the antinatal ward, they'll want to see you. It sounds like there is an infection somewhere, could be retained placenta could be mastitis (are you or have you fb baby?)
Ring the ward (you should have got all the details from the midwife's when you were discharged) they will want to see you to make sure everything is ok
