Had our scan relieved everything's ok, but feel very deflated, I was so excited but sonographer was very dismissive & not very welcoming at all, said it looks like a girl but can't be sure, anyone else been told that, I don't feel like we can just assume it's a girl based on that, I know it's not their job to tell gender or have a good bedside manner but was really hoping to come away feeling happier than I do :( couldn't make anything out on picture so won't be sharing this scan with the world! Lol

Lottiedoubtie · 25/04/2014 09:54

I'd say it is their job to have a good bedside manner actually, scans (that go well) are meant to be reassuring for the parents ( especially the mother as your state of mind is very important during pregnancy).

Angry for you, but at least you know everything else is ok?

whiteblossom · 25/04/2014 10:05

oh deardinah I'd feel deflated too! They cant even say that at this time of day they were rushed off their feet with a back log! I do think they should have a good bedside manner otherwise they are in the wrong job! What a shame. Glad everything is well though Smile x

ilovemonstersInc · 25/04/2014 10:11

I would say if they think its a girl I would agree as a boy has his bits hanging around. No scan prediction is 100%.
She should have been nicer though!

Sat waiting for scan on leg.
I hope if I have one its not moved so can be treated appropriately and if I havent got one then bloody good!

DearDinah · 25/04/2014 10:16

Thanks everyone, I'm possibly being dramatic but my 12 week scan was lovely the sonographer was a guy & he really took his time & made me laugh, got great pictures & even chucked in a freebie! Must have drawn the short straw this time, at least babbas healthy, I'll just go with girl, everyone's suggested a girl so far anyway! Lol team pink EDD 3rd sept
Hope everyone else has a good scan xxx

Missingcaffeine · 25/04/2014 10:50

I'm team blue! We weren't going to find out, but changed my mind at the last minute. I'm so excited.
We got to look at our baby for about 50 minutes, as there was a student sonographer doing scan. My sonographers were excellent. Sorry your experience wasn't quite as good Dinah, but you do have a healthy baby :). I'm worried I don't know how to bring up a little boy, as I grew up in a house full of girls. I feel I'd be a good mum to a little girl, and I want to be as good a mum to a little boy but I don't know anything about little boys and what they like. That might sound strange?! Do little boys and girls like the same things?

Cindy5389 · 25/04/2014 10:56

I'm prob asking a really stupid question here, but do we have to drink lots of water for the 20 week scan like we did for the 12 week scan? I have my scan Monday Smile

ilovemonstersInc · 25/04/2014 11:13

Missing
it will come naturally I promise! At the beginning its the same (well I imagine it ti be) and once they start to develop their own personalities you let them grow, help and shower them with love. I was worried I wouldn't be a good mum to a girl as I have 2 boys but its a boy so dont have to worry too much lol

ilovemonstersInc · 25/04/2014 11:15

Fwiw my eldest likes dolls, cars, action figures, prams and girly things too. My niece is a full on girl and my nephew is the same as my eldest. I know a little girl that hatea dresses and loves cargo pants!

rockin20s · 25/04/2014 13:19

Cindy i have my scan in 2 weeks and asked about the water, i was told that by then the bladder no longer sits in front of the uterus as there is no need to have it full.

Lottiedoubtie · 25/04/2014 13:24

My scan letter tells me to drink 750ml in the hour before the scan.

Teabiscuits · 25/04/2014 13:43

Team pink here! Third sister for DS, poor boy!

ilove hope you are ok.

I think it depends on what hospital you are with and which ultrasound machines they use. Our hospital likes an empty bladder, I have been told off in the past and told to go and do a wee (even though I didn't need to go!)

Now on the look out for non pink baby girl clothes. Not that I have anything against pink, but I know I'm going to get a sackful of pink from DHs cousin and its nice to have other colours too!

Congrats to everyone on gender news x

ilovemonstersInc · 25/04/2014 14:38

Thank you all.

It was plebitis which ive been told dr google its 'superficial dvt' so its a fake clot but not a clot? Confused either way I can go home on the blood thinning injections which im still bleeding from from thr one I had at 4am!

ILove glad its not a clot and you get to go home today. Not sure I would like to inject myself, but I do have a slight fear of needles!

Had midwife appt today, and she managed to find the hearbeat first time, which was great after the last midwife visit Smile

kicksandgiggles · 25/04/2014 16:57

I have had a lot of scans (five so far this pregnancy!), and some sonographers really aren't very good at bedside manner. I have found that they are generally nicer when I go on my own than when I have DH and DS with me; maybe the group dynamic irritates them? But try not to let it get you down Dinah. If knowing the gender is really important to you, would you be able to pay for a private scan in a few weeks' time to try to confirm?

My twins are super wriggly these days. One of them has already managed to work a limb up under my ribs a couple of times! I have my anomaly scan (at 21 weeks) on Monday, so looking forward to seeing them again soon.

Congratulations to everyone finding out the gender news! Very exciting Smile

So sorry about your loss Jemma. I hope you have some good RL support. Please look after yourself.

kicksandgiggles · 25/04/2014 16:59

Oh, and by the way, for those who need one, don't forget to ask for your MATB1 form at your next appointment, as some MWs are better than others about remembering. I got mine from my consultant today.

Hey ladies Grin baby was all wriggly and perfect at the scan, moving into position for all the measurements and flashing it's bits! Aaaaaand we're team blue Grin

Lemoncello72 · 25/04/2014 18:54

I don't really have much of a bump, I do have a fat belly though :( it's not got bigger since I've been pregnant so I'm sure it's not bump related. It does get pretty hard by the end of the day though, but is soft on a morning so I'm guessing gas masks may be required overnight.
I'm relieved to hear I'm not the only one who's concerned about their scan, ours is a week on Tuesday and we're hoping to find out what flavour baby we're having but last time I barely saw anything because the sonographer whipped the screen away and wouldn't share :( really hope there's no problems though. OH doesn't even seem to register that there may be problems or anything to worry about.

cookielove · 25/04/2014 18:58

Ok I got a question that I would love your opinions on, when I had my 12 scan I booked in my 20 week scan after, I then had genetic problem so was scanned at 17 weeks. They booked me in for a 21 week scan, after that appointment. Because of the problems only dh could come into the scan room, but my mum and dad would love to see the baby, would be ever so wrong to not cancel my 20 week scan and take my mum and dad to it?

The scans are at different hospital if that helps??

BooSurprise · 25/04/2014 19:34

Sorry to hear your news Jemma, look after yourself and take care x

Cindy5389 · 25/04/2014 20:06

Cookie I would say don't cancel and take ur mum and dad. I don't think the hospital would know if it's at different hospitals. My only concern would b if u turned up for ur scan at 21 weeks with ur dh and they look at ur notes, see that u have already had a scan at 20 weeks and decide not to do the scan.

cookielove · 25/04/2014 20:08

Oh yeah, we could take those notes out! Oh so not sure what to do?

topmammy · 25/04/2014 20:49

Great to hear today's scan news! :)

cookie tricky one with your scan question. Usually I'd go with honesty is the best policy but can see why you want both scans! Do whatever you're most comfortable with :)
