So dates for first appointments with the midwife seem to differ a lot for everyone on here! I called today and am going on the 10th of April, making me about 7 1/2 weeks. That seems okay doesn't it, not too early not too late?

CarmineRose1978 · 24/03/2014 17:42

Anna, I keep doing the boob squeeze too! Always reassuring when it still hurts.

Avery, I was thinking that this afternoon... We'll be worrying about them for the rest of ours lives! I'm going to try to nip it in the bud but I'm a worrier by nature so I doubt it'll get much easier...

Annarose2014 · 24/03/2014 17:46

Baxter I had to tell at 6 weeks. It was the issue of infection, MRSA, ESBL, VRE, H1N1.....we occasionally have a TB!

I won't go into a diarrohea room, or anything airborne. I don't mind MRSA as long as I wear PPE (I'm prob MRSA + at this point anyway, lets face it).

If you don't tell, then you are putting yourself into a difficult and unneccessarily stressful position. I HATED having to tell people, I really did. It felt I was jinxing it!

But it has made the last two weeks much easier as people have been very understanding. Am relieved I told, tbh.

CarmineRose1978 · 24/03/2014 17:46

I had to see the nurse today for what would have been day 3 blood tests... I told her about my tests and showed her one of them and she just said, "Yes, definitely positive! No, there's nothing I can do now, you just need to see your doctor." I thought she'd want to do a urine test or something! It was a big anticlimax. I also asked her about my tummy cramps, and all she replied was "Mother Nature knows best... If it's meant to happen, it'll happen." Not the most reassuring! I'm so glad I'm on here and asked you guys.

maeanne · 24/03/2014 18:05

I called my gp on Friday and they have made me an appointment to see my doctor tomorrow. Not really sure why, I'm assuming that is the first port of call before they will refer me to a midwife.

I'm exhausted, mostly because I seem to have lost the ability to sleep. I nearly cried in frustration last night. Getting a few sharp cramps today too, so I hope that's nothing to worry about.

I'm 4+5 today. Was so much easier not finding out until 8+4 with my dd!

AlpacaYourThings · 24/03/2014 18:09

I am so tired today!! [yawn] [zzz]

Also having a lot of heartburn, is anyone else?

8+1 today, currently on a ski holiday trying to hide my prego status from the group.....slightly challenging! X

Tigsy · 24/03/2014 18:19

Baxter unless you are having particular problems I wouldn't tell work. I'm a doctor myself and I've never known another medic to tell work earlier than expected. There probably isn't anything you would need to do differently for now- unless you are frequently in risky situations, e.g. in theatre with xray machines being brought in, etc. When I was pregnant last time, I was working on an infectious diseases ward. I did end up telling them early (as I had problems early and went on to have a mc) but there wasn't anything I was expected/not expected to do differently. You would just take all the normal precuations you would take. e.g. apron and gloves and masks if necessary.
Work will do an occupational health assessment later in your pregnancy- they will then look at nights, long days etc but this isn't until much later on in pregnancy.
Obviously if you have particular concerns/worries and want to tell them, you might feel happier, but I just wanted to say it certainly isn't the 'norm' to do so. I'm not telling anyone at work until after the scan, although the morning sickness is making it tricky!

annatha · 24/03/2014 18:21

AlpacaYourThings I've had bad heartburn too, though to be honest it's a welcome break from nausea!

Any strange cravings yet? I haven't felt an urge for anything just yet but find myself reaching for unusual foods. Today I had a lemon ice lolly and seaweed coated peanuts for lunch...!

Booking appointment tomorrow, quite excited!

alita7 · 24/03/2014 18:25

ooh annatha were both having our booking appointments tomorrow :) what time is yours? mines at 8am but I managed to get her to come to ours due to our circumstances :)

AlpacaYourThings · 24/03/2014 18:27

annatha I've been craving salt and vinegar crisps, I don't normally like them. Not very 'strange' though, just strange for me!

My sense odd smell is so strong! I can smell everything and everyone. Shopping on Sunday was interesting as I thought everyone had BO!! Blush

AlpacaYourThings · 24/03/2014 18:27

*of smell

alita7 · 24/03/2014 18:36

I've been eating lots of dry things... crisps like everyone else when normally I wouldn't have crisps more than once a fortnight. lots of ginger nuts. at work fizzy drinks are helpful. I seem to be completely off fruit, some veg and red meat (though haven't tried to eat it yet) I'm also not really eating much sweet things despite being a former chocoholic! I'm sticking firmly to dry food, rice and some pastas and some things like sausage rolls. my duck wrap earlier did not go down well!

annatha · 24/03/2014 18:36

AlpacaYourThings It's funny you should say that, I could smell BO on customers really strongly at work the other day, exactly what I needed when I already felt sick!

Exciting stuff alita7! Glad they agreed to come to you, makes things easier! Mine's at 9, I could have had it last Tues but I was working so arranged it for my morning off, only to find out at my risk assessment at work today that not only could I have gone, I could've had two hours pay for it...!

selsigfach · 24/03/2014 18:47

I told my doctor today and she promised not to take me off the IVF list until after my 12wk scan, if I ever get there!! She won't do an early scan but well take bloods tomorrow and Thursday. If my levels have increased, she'll know that there is a baby inside and not a mmc. Will find out either way on Friday, eeek!! Thought that info might be useful for anyone else who isn't allowed an early scan. Going to get a doppler this weekend if I get good news.

Hopeful83 · 24/03/2014 18:51

Sleepy I'm a teacher and I told work at 6 weeks. I would never normally have told so early but I am on the SLT and the next day we were discussing class allocations for next year and interviews were the week after. I didn't want them to plan me in a class and then have to go through another round of interviews later in the term. I would have felt really guilty to sit at the meeting and not say anything. I am glad I did as I started bleeding a few days later a d have since had time off to 2 visits to the EPU so I'm glad they knew. But my head is very supportive so I wasn't worried about saying.

My booking in appointment is on Friday. I'll be 8+5 by my dates or 8+0 by their dates which isn't too bad I don't think. My scan is on 24th april

bunnykitten · 24/03/2014 18:52

Hello! Can I join?

I have had several BFPs but couldn't get a doctors appointment for two weeks so I have been waiting until that, which was today. Luckily I managed to arrange my booking appointment for today too. I feel like I have been at the doctors all afternoon!

I'm 6+6 and due 12 November, first time. I'm in Surrey.

ElleOhElle · 24/03/2014 18:57

Hi bunnykitten congratulations and welcome!

selsigfach great news that they won't take you off the IVF list- must be reassuring to know.

likeaboss I'm the same with not fancying anything. With feeling sick all the time, I've given up trying to be virtuous and eat good stuff and am now just trying to manage whatever I fancy- but just don't really fancy anything!

Got myself some sickness bands today- not sure if they'll help but desperate times and all....

barmybunting · 24/03/2014 19:44

Welcome to new joiners! November is going to be a busy month!

Yes to going off food completely! I can't think of anything I want to eat, or if I do, one look at it and I can't bear the idea. I think it's partially fear that if I need, the nausea will hit in a worse way as it feels bad enough already! I've just been doing parents night tonight. Trying to be professional and talk to parents properly when you need to run to the cupboard to be sick in between appointments is not fun! Next parents due is on Wed, but I don't have too many then thankfully.

In terms of telling school, I'm planning on telling them after Easter when I'll be about 10 weeks. I would wait longer, but I'm actually covering someone else's maternity contract and due to be there until Dec, but I've decided to leave over the summer instead so I want them to know so they can make plans for next year. I am dreading that conversation as the head is a very stern man who I haven't really taken to at all!

Sleeping personally I would be taking it as easily as possible with work if I were you. You and your baby are more important. Work will always be there later.

alita7 · 24/03/2014 20:00

DP is not happy with my cooking any more, I can't eat exciting meals he's fed up :p

I officially hate buses . I hate that it's not obvious that were pregnant as I get horrible looks on the bus to work when some 50 year old able bodied woman wants my seat as im a young lady in my twenties...and I feel like I'll vomit over her if I have to stand...

selsigfach · 24/03/2014 20:12

Very relieved, tigsy!
Congratulations bunny, welcome to the board. Plenty of scared, excited ladies here to here to keep you company.

Greenstone · 24/03/2014 20:23

alita surely your DP can take over the cooking in that case! Wink

Seems there are lots of medical people and teachers on this thread I feel like such a fraud, I don't have to chase after sick people or children; I have a boring desk job (IT) and I am STILL wiped all the time how is that?! I really need to step up my exercise as soon as this stormy weather goes away.

I just made myself a copy of DD's dinner (DH is out tonight) because I quite fancied the look of what she had. Beef stew, mash and peas. To my surprise it's gone down well.

Hope everyone's having a nice night.

pinkgirlythoughts · 24/03/2014 20:24

I find that I'm feeling sick in the mornings, and then again in the evenings, maybe because it's when I'm tired? Absolutely starving, but don't actually want to eat anything!

With regards telling school, I think I'm going to have to tell sooner than I would have liked to, as our headteacher mentioned year group/class allocations for next year at staff meeting today, so I need to tell her before she allocates me a class! We're also due to have some restraint training next term, which I obviously won't be able to do.
