There are lots of us on here now, is this a normal amount of pregnancies for one month or is there a baby boom?!

Ive just called my GP, and they have booked me in for Friday, think its gonna be a pretty pointless appointment, but they have to refer me to the Maternity dept. Then I'll get a booking in appointment with my community midwife and hopefully it will start to feel more real!

chirpchirp · 24/03/2014 10:45

Hi all,

Chirpchip, 32 in Fife. I have a DS(3) and had an miscarriage at the end of last year. Hoping with all my heart that this pregnancy sticks. I'm 5 weeks today and booked in with midwife for 4th April. I think that puts my due date at around 22 November. Feeling a little more hopeful as with last pregnancy didn't have any symptoms at all and then miscarried at about six weeks. This time however I am constantly sick/nauseous, replelled by most food and having to nap most days after getting in from work which is almost identical to my entire pregnancy with DS. Will happily spew every day knowing that it means everything is ok!

Currently living off porridge, bananas, caramel ricecakes and apple tea as it's all I can stomach.

StudyFullTime · 24/03/2014 11:00

hi all,

had some bleeding today, luckily also had my booking in appointment so instead of doing my paperwork she referred me to the the early pregnancy unit and I have a scan tomorrow at 1030, really hoping this is an unexplained bleed and all will be ok Sad

Northernexile · 24/03/2014 11:19

Morning all, fingers crossed for you tomorrow study, a bit of bleeding early on can quite often be nothing to worry about, so hopefully your scan will confirm all's ok.

Still no symptoms here so hoping all is well, apart from the fact decaf tea is making me gag! Have started it today as at work I normally drink gallons of Yorkshire Tea. I hate decaf tea but I am going to persevere in the hope I grow to like it...

Sleepingstarsmommy · 24/03/2014 11:23

Hi all.

I'm back on placement at the hospital tomorrow (student nurse) on the same ward I was on when I went into premature labour with my angel. Can't decide whether to try and swap my placement (have been told I can). The ward Im on is extremely busy with acutely ill patients and I'll learn a lot and will really improve my knowledge but it is a 'heavy' and fast paced environment including 12.5 shifts and nights and perhaps I'd be better off somewhere a little more relaxed (if that exists). If I do change however it means I won't get to choose where I do my last 4 weeks so will loose the opportunity to experience placements that really interest me.

Can't decide what to do for the best. Would it be unreasonable given my history of multiple losses to request no night shifts (my consultant wants me to use pessaries at night so I do have a valid reason). Really don't want to appear to be a pain in the arse though and get a reputation of being awkward as I qualify this summer and will hoping for a job. And need to make a decision by tomorrow really.
Confused

Annarose2014 · 24/03/2014 11:35

Sleepingstars I'm also a student nurse. I happen to be on a quiet ward at the mo with few acute patients. It will be boring and I wont learn much but I don't care. Much more important to take care of myself.

My "heavy" ward will be in the last months but hopefully I'll be so big I won't be physically able to do much hauling and will have a very visible excuse. And baby should be robust enough by then in any case.

Tbh, you would never forgive yourself if you hurt yourself during this time just cos you wanted to learn more. It ain't worth it. You have a whole career to learn stuff and to work in different areas. Its not as if you're never gonna see a chest drain again!!! Wink

Annarose2014 · 24/03/2014 11:40

By the way I have already had to put my foot down. "No I won't go into that room, that patient is H1N1" "But you have PPE" "Yeah I'm still not doing it, too risky" ".....oh....OK then" And I stand firm.

At this stage my attitide is fuck 'em. Its amazing how brave a pregnancy can make you. I was afraid to open my mouth before for fear of getting a repuation as "that bolshie one". Now I'm very much MEMEMEME!!!

Greenstone · 24/03/2014 11:41

sleepingstar do they know about your pregnancy yet? if not I'd tell them, it will make life easier. I think any employer would be understanding of you not working your body too hard right now given your history and requesting no nights doesn't seem unreasonable at all to me. Could you chat it out with them?

Study glad you're getting a scan soon. Hope all is well and that you're feeling OK.

Still drinking 2 cups of normal tea daily here, it's the only consumable food item I actually look forward to! Thankfully my coffee aversion has kicked in so I don't have to do battle with self over that. I just can't decide what I feel like eating -- I'm another one who has really gone off the idea of vegetables. I remember this from the last time around and feeling really worried that I'd never like them again!

Tigsy I feel for you being so sick! I can't complain; low-level nausea all day is manageable. Actual vomming much less so.

Can I ask -- those of you with a due date of Nov. 7th: when do you think you conceived and how many days do you put yourself at? I got a peak/smiley OPK on the 12th Feb and reckon I ovulated on the 13th. The dating app I have puts conception at the 14th Feb, with a due date of 7th Nov.*

*disclaimer: I know it's all much of a muchness but you know how it is, every day counts at this stage!

alita7 · 24/03/2014 11:45

hi sleeping stars and Anna rose,

I'm also a student nurse, I'm currently on placement and it is hard in early pregnancy!!! The good thing is I finish work on Friday and then have 3 weeks off! How are you planning to manage pregnancy and the course?

sleeping I would be inclined to change it to avoid bad memories. also in pregnancy a less heavy ward might be an idea so you don't get rushed off your feet! I'm with the crisis team atm so at least I'm not running around on wards though on the other hand home visits are hard when you feel like throwing up and you can't leave the room :p

RandomInternetStranger · 24/03/2014 11:50

So weird but 2 friends have announced their pgs this week on Facebook. There was something in the water in February!

I'm up at my mum's for a week and weirdly whereas she usually can't stop shoveling food down my mouth and it's always healthy this week it's been junk junk junk and not a lot of it!! Had to have a moan yesterday and say at some point this week can I have, you know, a vegetable?? Seeing as I'm trying to grow your grandchild here?? Not massively impressed and it's no wonder they've both put on weight! They seem really depressed actually. Going to get Mum out shopping & take the dogs for a walk with Dad later and have a chat with them.

Sleepyhoglet · 24/03/2014 12:08

Any teachers or teaching assistants on here? I'm not sure when to tell school. Tricky as won't get the matb1 form till 20 weeks but that's during summer hols.

alita7 · 24/03/2014 12:34

anyone else had tingly, electrical twinges down in the pelvic area? I think it's gastrointestinal (TMI ALERT) as when I pushed to do a number It intensified then went away.

But it might not be so I'm a little co concerned though very aware I need to calm down.... pregnancy seems to have turned me neurotic!!!

alita7 · 24/03/2014 12:34

MrsWombat · 24/03/2014 13:02

Sleepy I would tell the school as soon as you are comfortable to do so. Either after the 12 week scan or before if you think it necessary for your health and safety. The paperwork won't matter until you need to sort out out your maternity leave officially. Is your school council run? The council HR will be open over August.

My son's teacher was pregnant last year, and going by when she was due, they officially told us she was expecting in a letter shortly after her 20 week scan.

Mathssssteacher123 · 24/03/2014 15:18

I had to tell work last week as have had such bad ms I needed to let them know why I was leaving a class! Feels almost like jinxing it telling so early but needs must in this case! Hoping the sickness wears off soon work is so hard! Still haven't heard anything from midwife yet either :(

WinterLover · 24/03/2014 15:28

Anyone find the cramps get worse as the day goes on?

im fine till mid afternoon and they start. Home from work now so hot water bottle fir me and cbeebies for DS!

TheWildOnes · 24/03/2014 16:09

Hi All, hope its ok for me to join you. I got a really faint bfp yesterday, not sure how far along I am but think id be due end of November.
This is my 5th pregnancy and all being well will be my 3rd child. My DCs are 10 and 6 so big age gap.
I miscarried my last pregnancy so im terrified of that happening again.
Me and DH are finding it all difficult to take in at the minute as didn't think I could get pregnant so we are a little in shock.
Been feeling nauseus for about a week, im fine all day but feel rubbish at night, and have been even more tired than usual (plus have ME/CFS and fibromyalgia) and boobs are sore too.

MabelMay · 24/03/2014 16:23

Hi All
Just checking in.

alita not sure if I've been getting what you're getting but I do sometimes have very sharp twinges on both my left and right sides, more commonly in the evening.

My nausea is definitely worse - and seems at its worst at night. I find an empty stomach definitely exacerbates it. But struggling to find many foods I feel like eating, other than crisps Blush - someone mentioned porridge a few comments back - think I could handle that.

thewildones welcome! This is also my 5th pregnancy, and all being well my 3rd child. And will also have a big age gap (my 2 DCs are aged 8 and 6). Had two MCs last year, but feeling positive about this one, fingers crossed...

I have an early scan on Thursday - half of me can't wait - the other half is v anxious about it, as last time I had a scan all they found was a sac with no heartbeat. Feel much better about this one though. Think positive, think positive.

Hope everyone else well.

7+2 weeks. (EDD 8th November)

daisydalrymple · 24/03/2014 16:29

Hi all, booked my midwife apt today, 10th April was the 1st available slot for a booking in apt. Seems ages away! Felt quite flat coming out of there, as felt like the receptionist looked at me with pity - she didn't smile once or say congratulations

daisydalrymple · 24/03/2014 16:41

Oops pressed too soon! Basically i got a totally different reaction this time to when pg with DS and DD [sigh], as if i'm too old to be pg (41). Am off to the hairdressers on fri so i will be after a more youthful look Grin

Hope the scan goes well mabel keep those positive vibes going! I'm picking some up off you, thanks Wink. Another one here on the crisps thing. But i think i've worked out it's more the crunch thing so i might try to think of something still crunchy but healthier!

Sleepyhoglet · 24/03/2014 16:45

Thanks mrs wombat. It is an independent school. The policy says I don't need to say till15 weeks before due date, but once they know (maybe if I show at 16 weeks) then the head will pester me. They don't treat pregnant staff very sympathetically so am a bit worried. It's a horrible situation

AussieGoingHomeSoon · 24/03/2014 17:08

Welcome WildOnes & congratulations ! No 3 for me too but small gap, DD 3 next month & DS 1 next month.

I'm also feel worse in the evening, I seem to look 5 month preggers from about 6pm onwards and stomach is tender.

Have been eating so much rubbish so did a healthy food shop today, I'm enjoying the "crunch" too so got ryvitas which I'm enjoying for lunch/ breakfast & feels a bit healthier & got the fruit ones as a sweet snack. Also enjoying anything sour/ vinegary so got gerkins & pickled onions !! They r so good !!

Baxter2014 · 24/03/2014 17:10

I'm a student doctor and although I don't have to do proper shifts with heavy lifting and nights like the nurses do, I still work on the wards and am worried about the infection risk. How soon should I tell people? And how cautious do I need to be? I'm only 6+4 today and no one at work knows yet and was hoping to keep quiet a bit longer cos I had an early MC during my pre-clinical course. What do you guys think? I don't want to be a pain and I still want to get involved and get the most out of my training but obviously baby comes first!

alita7 · 24/03/2014 17:12

wow sounds like I'm very lucky to have my midwife appointment tomorrow, 2 days before I'm even 8 weeks! I think it's due to a cancellation as otherwise they didn't have until after I was 10 weeks free and I was anxious to have my scan as close to 12 weeks as possible as last time the baby had died at 9+4 so I don't want to wait too long worrying that things aren't going well. :) excited for tomorrow!

blamber · 24/03/2014 17:36

Northern, try clipper decaf tea! It tastes really nice (better than other decafs) and they only use co2 to decaf the tea (whereas other teas use chemicals).
