Those anti-sickness wristbands are my new best friend. Seriously thought I was going to vom half an hour ago but popped them on and I now feel back to normal and merrily chomping through a bacon baguette.

alita7 · 25/03/2014 13:39

no holiday for me :( anyone want to hide me In their luggage?
day off tomorrow, maybe I'll make it to boots for those sea bands or maybe ill sleep :p
my booking appointment took just under an hour and a half.

HRMumness · 25/03/2014 13:52

We are off to New York and Canada for a wedding in early July. Hopefully while we are away our kitchen extension will get started if we can ever get planning approval FFS. Last time I was pregnant we lived in our front room, dining room and kitchen while our upstairs got done. Now we've finished the rest of the house (do not recommend renovating with toddler) but looks like I'm going to be pregnant and without a proper kitchen. Truly a sucker for punishment. Also, we had to rush rush rush to get upstairs done as my MIL came to stay with us. Guess who decided to time her trip for late August instead of when the baby arrives this time around? At least Nanny can help with DD this time around [grins] even if we don't have a bloody kitchen.

HRMumness · 25/03/2014 13:54

Sorry about no holiday Alita. Could you not manage at least a night away somewhere?

StudyFullTime · 25/03/2014 14:13

Crikey this thread moves mega fast, I had a scan today and my dates are spot on at 6 weeks and 1 day, saw the pregnancy sac and a yolk sac but no heartbeat. They have booked me in for another scan on the 7th April when I'll be 8 weeks, the lady said there is no signs of what the bleeding could be.

Hope everyone else is good and progressing as they should, god this baby growing business is hard work.

utopian99 · 25/03/2014 14:16

hrmumness what's the issue with planning? If I can help do pm me (am an architect, for what it's worth...)

On the holiday front we're going to ibiza with friends in August and sciliy with family in very early September, so will probably need a fit to fly from the doctor for the latter. We were on holiday when I was 13 weeks last time so maternity wear wasn't an issue, or certificates. Haven't told anyone we're going with yet as only early days.

On that note I have my booking in appointment on april 9th, at 8 weeks - easily as excited and probably more worried than first time round! Also looks like sickness is kicking in bang on 6 weeks, so if it follows pattern it should die off around 14 weeks. This is going to be fun.

Thread splitting - forgot how busy things start off but on our previous thread (dec 12) they did calm down a lot, plus I think a lot of people read but don't post too much.Happy split if thathat's consensus though.

Elle, I have been freezing too! I'm normally cold but it seems to have been worse these last few days.

Hrmumness, I'm a planner - sorry about that! Smile

I'm jealous of everyone going on holiday. I really need some sun and warmth, but we have nothing planned. Spending our money on redecorating the house and saving up!

I'm a bit worried about my thyroid... The GP referred me to the endo, because I'm hypothyroid, but the earliest appointment isn't until May. In the first months of pregnancy the baby uses your thyroid hormones, because it doesn't have a thyroid itself yet, so if your thyroid isn't functioning properly you may need to take more meds, or else you could have an increased risk of miscarriage or other problems for the baby. May just seems way too far away without my levels being monitored! I guess I could ask the midwife, when I see her in 2 weeks' time... or ask the GP for a blood test before May. I don't know!

barmybunting · 25/03/2014 16:05

Posy was it you asking about itchiness? It can be a normal symptom but it is also a sign of a liver thing in pregnancy. That normally only starts later I think though. Mention it to your midwife though to be safe as if it is something, it needs to be kept an eye on.

Would rather stay as one thread if poss as I think less people will post as time moves on. I think this is probably an initial flurry.

Nessalina · 25/03/2014 17:00

Hi all!
Just back from booking appt Smile Took an hour including bloods, but I didn't ask a lot of questions having done it fairly recently. My midwife is nice, sooo chilled out, I was yawning by the time I left. Bloods always freak me out, but DH came along too, so that was nice.

Glad your scans went well Study & Dilys! No luck on the guilt tripping my midwife into a free early scan, so I'll be holding out for 12 weeks.
We've decided to have the NIFTY test privately at about 14 weeks which is very similar to the HARMONY test that they do down in London, but it's available more places, Leeds included. They take blood and isolate the fetal DNA somehow (don't quite get the science) and can give you much more accurate odds of Downs and other disorders than the NHS combined test can. And you get to know the gender! It's on trial at the NHS to be incorporated into their antenatal care, but coz it's expensive they can't offer it to everyone. It's £250 privately Confused but well worth it for our peace of mind, especially as our last pregnancy had a chromosome disorder.

My sickness is still very mild which is good! Went shopping and bought loads of stuff I fancied - lots of fruit and veg and biscuits!

Seems like general consensus is to stick to one thread - works for me, it's nice to have a variety of folk's experiences. We've got nurses, doctors, teachers, planners, architects, all sorts! Grin

Thanks for the replies on the itching. It's not cholestasis, a friend had that and it sounds dreadful, but that's a 3rd trimester thing and I'm only 7+1! Dr Google reckons it's the increased blood volume and body getting used to it. I hope it goes though as it's maddening. On the plus side, I didn't puke today. Swings and roundabouts eh…

ladydolly my DP did actually use the phrase "mind over matter" last night, eventually after letting her know what I thought of the proposition I managed it.

HRMumness · 25/03/2014 17:27

blamber and utopia sent you both a PM.

blamber hope you get someone to look at your thyroid issue. I know what you mean about spending all your money on renovating!

Nessa sounds expensive but worth every penny if you can get some peace of mind.

Whenwillwe3meetagain · 25/03/2014 17:57

Is it realistic that I will be comfortable/allowed to go to Austria for a wedding at 31 weeks in late September?

Bubba84 · 25/03/2014 18:00

Hi ladies! I've been lurking a while but thought I'd finally say hi Grin I'm 6 weeks tomorrow and only saw GP last week and they're referring me onto the midwife so waiting for them to contact me. All has been well apart from a funny tummy and mild cramps just before I found out I was prego. Since yesterday, it seems to be changing! Feeling seedy pretty much all the time, think I'm properly hungry but then eat and feel awful. Definitely finding the little and often approach works best. And eating what I fancy. I don't really eat junk food but lost a lot of weight before getting pregnant with exercise and diet, and I'm really worried it's all going to come piling back on...
Any pregnancy DVD workouts you recommend?? Youtube seems good but the way I've been feeling the last few days, all I want to do is be in bed!
PS - I'm pleased in a way I have some symptoms otherwise you feel like you're not pregnant!

Bubba84 · 25/03/2014 18:02

Oh and no holidays for us either this year, doing the house up same as you blamber

HRMumness · 25/03/2014 18:05

whenwewill if you feel well! I say go for it. Airlines should let you fly til 36 weeks but check with your airline. Also, make sure you have your insurance sorted, some will only cover you up to 26 weeks IIRC. Also, don't forget to take all your notes too. I travelled by train to Lyon, France to visit friends when I was that far along with DD. My friends who we met there were amazed that I was still walking, staying up til midnight and I even ate medium steaks. No way I was asking for well done in France.

BexBoo12 · 25/03/2014 18:37

Barmy, results are in...we are team BLUE xx

pinkgirlythoughts · 25/03/2014 18:45

Woohoo Bex, exciting news for you! Congrats!

barmybunting · 25/03/2014 18:53

Brilliant news Bex!! I have been wondering how you got on Smile . How exciting, a lovely little boy!

Have you decided on a name or is that ages away yet?

AlpacaYourThings · 25/03/2014 19:08

Congratulations Bex how exciting to know! Smile

BexBoo12 · 25/03/2014 19:27

Thank you ladies Grin haven't got any names yet, I really don't want to set my heart on a name til he's born, so I can see what his little facd is like and see his little personality. I would just like to have a few names that I like so hopefully it'll not be too difficult!! How are you all doing? Barmy, is your scan this week? Have I dreamt that it's Thursday? Xx

pinkgirlythoughts · 25/03/2014 19:59

No chance of an early scan for me, unfortunately. Having finally managed to get hold of the midwife and explained my confusion with dates, the earliest booking in appointment she was prepared to give me was April 9th, by which time I'll be 81/2, or possibly 10 1/2, weeks. I won't be given a scan date until after that :(

blamber · 25/03/2014 20:18

Bex, I didn't know you could find out that early! Amazing!

Does anyone already have a feeling what the gender of their baby might be? I was reading a bit that women who have a feeling (not a preference) are quite often correct, more than chance would have it. I don't prefer either, but have a feeling it's a boy... no idea why!

Does anyone have pains in their sides? I got some pains in one side this evening and I started panicking a bit in case it got worse and turned out to be ectopic... yes I worry too much! But then I got it on the other side as well! Sharp pains, but not too strong. Things stretching perhaps?

BexBoo12 · 25/03/2014 20:23

Blamber, I am almost 17 weeks, I am an imposter from the September thread Blush I know a few of the ladies here from the conception buses so I keep popping in, hope you don't mind Wink we had a private gender scan as DH didn't want to wait til 20 weeks, you can have early gender scan from 16 weeks x

alita7 · 25/03/2014 20:36

congratulations bex! have you done any of those home gender tests? would love to know if they're accurate for you :p

I had a feeling its a boy but I thought that before getting pregnant and that may be because of shear probability - dps already got 3 girls!

I did the bicarbonate of soda test and it said girl and it looked like it's on the left side of th e uterus at the scan so maybe he's just got more girl sperm than boy :p I don't mind which it is but from about 6 weeks I've felt like I really want a girl when normally I wouldn't mind which :p
