Thanks for updating the stats missing. My official NHS EDD is now 7th September based on my 12 week scan.

Went for a lovely 3 hour walk in the sunshine today. Had to do my first outdoorsy pregnant wee in the woods! There's blossom everywhere and the change in season along with the new trimester is having such a positive effect on me. Feeling so excited and loving having a little more energy.

Gums are bleeding a little when flossing here too. Am going to treat myself to that expanding stuff tomorrow on the big shop Grin

I am so tempted to buy some maternity clothes but feel a little wasteful as I have plenty of clothes two sizes too big for pre pregnancy due to a 2 1/2 stone weight loss last year. Maybe I could justify it if I don't pay for another private scan......

Hi everyone, can I ask a really personal question about weight gain (only answer if you feel comfortable!)?
I am waiting for my scan, a week Monday. I have very very strong family history of twins but with lots of (sadly major) complications and problems in pregnancy and birth so I'm quite anxious to make sure there is just one (healthy) baby inside as I'm scared of the stress, worry and anxiety of a twin pregnancy. I have a big tum now and feeling huge but I have been putting this down to this being DC2, however, I've just weighed myself and in between booking in at 7+3 and now 11+5 I have put on loads! 11 lb in 4 weeks! I hope one of the scales is wrong?.. Food has helped with the MS so I have been grazing a lot ... I am about average (size 12) and tall (5'10") and last pregnancy I put on about 2 stone altogether. Panicking a bit now about what the usual weight gain for first trimester is... scared to google it! I know there won't be an answer to this until I get the scan, and I'm probably just obsessing as DH is out tonight, but if anyone has any reassurance they can offer I would very gratefully receive it! Thanks ladies Xx

Lottiedoubtie · 01/03/2014 23:46

Can't help Katharine as I don't know much about 'normal' weight gain.

But while we wait for someone more knowledgable to show up, have a (decaf) Brew and consider your hand held. What will be will be, no amount of stressing over it in the next week will change the outcome.

topmammy · 02/03/2014 00:19

I think the usual weight gain for first trimester is around 3 to 4 lbs. And apparently 2stone is about average to put on altogether. Don't panic though, as you say, scales could be in need of recalibrating. You could be retaining water too. You're braver than me anyway, I don't dare weigh myself, I'm sure I've put on more than 4lb with the amount of bread, crisps and cheese I've been scoffing! [Blush] All the beige foods basically lol.

topmammy · 02/03/2014 00:31

And also Katharine even if you have put on a little bit of extra weight I don't think that necessarily means you must be having twins as babies at this stage weigh much less than even 100g I think? I may be talking a load of tosh but that's what my non medically trained brain says to me anyway! Hope I have made you feel at least a teeny bit better and not worse! :) Blush

dontevenblink · 02/03/2014 06:34

Hi, can I join in please? I'm 13 weeks today and my EDD (according to my scan last Thursday) is 7th September :)

duzzlightyearsmum · 02/03/2014 07:19

Katharine when I went for my booking appointment and mW weighed me I had already gained 7lb from pre-pregnancy weight and that's with morning sickness. I can safely say there is only one little bean inside this belly and both me and DP have twins (identical and non-identical) in the family, DP is in fact a twin himself. So I wouldn't worry too much. Last time round I barely gained any weight but this time I fear I will be whale-like very soon!

Xxxx

SerotoninCanEatTomorrow · 02/03/2014 07:30

Hello can I join? I have a ds that will be 4 in May and my edd is 13th September.
I had a 'dating scan' on wed - turned out I was 11.4 so got all the tests there and then Smile
had no idea on dates so literally only have the scan edd to go by.
am in a bit of a tough financial and living situation at the moment so mor stressed than I need to be right now lmao

SerotoninCanEatTomorrow · 02/03/2014 07:38

Oh and about the weight gain - I haven't actually put on physical weight as I was pretty fit before I got pregnant but I have a massive belly now so I think I have lost muscle mass as I have been too tired for exercise through the whole first trimester.
so according to the scales at the scan I weigh the same as I did before I found out I was pregnant (157 lbs) but struggling to get clothes that fit.
This is annoying Grin

cookielove · 02/03/2014 08:55

I've lost weight but then I was bigger before so wanted to get doen under 14:stone Shock before my appointment. Omly 2lbs left to go. I am having trouble eating a proper meal though!

Hand holding offered though :) it will be alright :)

xxmissbrightsidexx · 02/03/2014 09:38

I was 10st 4 when I was weighed at booking in appointment, curious to see what I am now,,haven't been eating much at all as the nausea is still bad, can literally manage a few bites before I'm pushing the plate away x

isitme1 · 02/03/2014 09:50

Thank you seven for the birthday wishes
Katharine I was worried about that too.
Twins for me would mean placenta site bigger and I would bleed more. But thankfully theres just the 1 healthy baby kicking around
I was big before scan and the first thing I asked once she was donw scanning was how many are there and she said just the one healthy baby.
I was a twin and mum was a twin and so was gran. None survived birth which was another reason why I was so worried

I also learnt that I pph as my uterus doesn't contract properly despite being on the synotocin drip I dont know if I want a vaginal birth or a elcs

nice to hear from you waffles

Laura2611 · 02/03/2014 10:03

Lh1981 are you going to find out what your having?
Katharine I wouldn't worry about weight I think everyone is just so different. I put on 4st with my first two! And I would say I just ate normally. X

whiteblossom · 02/03/2014 11:38

morning all, love the new super positive thread Smile
I had my scan on Friday which was very surreal, I think I had got myself into bit of a tiz over it. Anyway baby looks good but was very much misbehaving, getting the measurements and pics were an effort! But we got there in the end. Baby measures 7cm bum to head which is amazing! Tried to look for nub but no luck! Im one day ahead at 13+1 so EDD is now 6th sep. I have my notes here but not sure which bit states the neck fluid/thickness? would that be the NT bit?

Today we broke the news to DS (8 yr old) he didn't take it well. I really thought he would be excited...Im quite upset, I don't want to upset him. So now we have decided to wait to tell everyone else until it sinks in for him (yet more waiting) Sad Ive had a good sob and Im trying to be upbeat with ds but im on the verge of tears.

As for weight, 1st T, I gained nothing and Ive not weighed myself in a week or so but Im now starting to eat more normally and have evening meals. Im still shattered but the ms is so much better.

waffles nice to see you pop in Smile

desperate for clothes!!

WaffilyVersatile · 02/03/2014 11:40

Hi everyone! I am 12+2 (I think) and just found this forum

I was looking for a facebook due in group, is anyone a member of one? xx

TheOnlySeven · 02/03/2014 12:27

Sorry to hear that blossom. He'll come round in time. Mine is 5, when I was expecting DD2 he kept saying he didn't want another baby. He absolutely loves her to bits now she's here though.

OP posts:
waffles1990 · 02/03/2014 13:08

theonlyseven aww that must have been horrible for you with your DD2! I can understand your worries.

It's pretty hard to say if there is anything preventative, if you say they couldn't find a cause I presume you've been 'checked out' - did they do vaginal swabs or anything or have a good look at your cervix through a speculum to see if anything unusual popped up? Have u seen a consultant and made any plans for this pregnancy?

35 weeks is premature but they've got a very good fighting chance at that age so that's good, I know you'd rather they hung on a little longer though! Sometimes babies come out needing resuscitation regardless of gestation, so hopefully as your others were ok then this one has a good chance of being too, if it WAS born early, as not many 35 weekers require resus as a rule.

Hope that helps a bit xx

TheOnlySeven · 02/03/2014 13:36

Thanks waffles, it was worse for DH to be fair as I didn't witness it.I've had swabs done but nothing else. I'm consultant led but not seen her yet. It's just annoying that pre-term labours means I'm consultant-led care, but it's never pre-term enough for them to actually do anything about it IYSWIM.

On the weight gain, I put on about a half stone over Christmas/honeymoon but last week I weight myself and had gained nothing since January 10th, weighted myself this morning and I had gained 2pounds. I'm blaming the constipation!!

whiteblossom · 02/03/2014 15:08

Thanks seven . My DM just popped over and ds asked if he could tell her, so I said yes but it might be nice if he could tell both nana and grandad together and only when he thinks he's ready. DS then said he would be ready on his bday on Tuesday. All my side of the family will be here then. Smile

Missingcaffeine · 02/03/2014 15:09

Congratulations on the good scan news blossom lime and lucid and welcome blink waffily and serotonin. blossom your son will soon adjust, it's probably just the shock.

Teeth feeling slightly better today. I rubbed loads of toothpaste in them last night, whether that helped I'm not sure.

Re weight gain, thankfully, my scales are broken, as I'm pretty sure I've put on loads of weight in the last month, way more than I should have done. I'm normally size 10-12, 5ft7 and do loads of exercise and eat healthily. All I've done for the last month is laze and eat carbs! My clothes are tight and my tummy seems huge and I'm only 10weeks. I think there's a lot of bloating though, as digestion is not as normal. I was going to wait until 12 week scan to shop, but I've bought a few non-maternity items that are comfy at the moment.

As I've had a good scan at 9+5 do you think I can start telling people, or should I wait until the NHS one in a couple of weeks? My mum called me up from a family party last night (that I was too tired to go to), desperate to tell everyone, and when I told her no, she said she doesn't understand why I am waiting. She's just excited, but I don't want to to have to deal with anyone other than those closest to me if anything happens in the next 2 weeks.

LH1981 · 02/03/2014 15:19

Laura yes, def going to find out about gender - far too nosey not to!

Katharine, I put on 4 stone with my first, and most of it turned out to be water. My god, when my waters broke it was like Niagara falls and a few days after the birth I only had an extra half a stone to lose. I wouldn't worry too much unless it gets out of control. I could tell most of the weight was on my bump and not on my arms/legs/face etc which is a good indicator. xx

TheOnlySeven · 02/03/2014 17:57

missing I think you'll be fine telling people. Because my dates were so out my NHS 12 week scan was actually at exactly 10 weeks so only. 2 days later than yours. I won't get another scan now until the 20 week one.

Thanks so so much for the reassurance ladies following my wobbly moment last night - I re-weighed this morning and I think quite a bit is water as I was up 3 times in the night to wee and so this morning I had lost 4lbs! Which puts gain down to 7lb. Either that or the scales are really on the fritz!
Had a lovely day out today for DSs 3rd birthday (he loves Thomas so we went on a 'Day out with Thomas' at a steam railway and told him he was going to the island of Sodor (where Thomas lives) it was magical for him) and just seen out the last of family visitors - so tired and hoping for an early night now!

topmammy · 02/03/2014 18:30

It's amazes me every night recently how much wee my body can hold lol. Sounds like you had a good day Katharine

I'm having my own wobbly moment, I stupidly went on the childbirth thread and have scared myself silly. That and the fact that on my mum's side big heads seem to run in the family..... I got stuck myself, mum says because my head was too big/her pelvis was too small. Ah joy. Confused I realise I shouldn't be worrying about this kind of thing yet though, got a while to go yet!
