When my mum was expecting my brother she had a 1 in 10 (!) risk of downs. But she was 38 and my brother actually just does have a thick neck lol You can even see it just looking at him. Anyway he does not have downs so I guess it just shows that these nuchal fold results are not a clear indicator alone so don't worry too much ladies :)

OneInAMinion · 21/03/2014 07:20

Hi Bex, I had my scan and bloods on 11 March and my letter arrived yesterday with a 1 in 41,000 chance of downs (so low risk). Delays don't usually mean that things are high risk, just that something got stuck in the system or lost so perhaps worth calling your midwife or the hospital.

whiteblossom · 21/03/2014 07:40

Oneinaminion that's a great result! I thought mine was good at 1 in 37000 but then Im 35 not sure if that makes a difference?

Kt1991 · 21/03/2014 08:15

Morning everyone sorry not posted for a while as had the flu and still not really over it I don't think :( been working still though and did an extra day this week so in knackered! Been suffering really bad with headaches too so think its my sinuses. Anyone recommend what I can take/use other than paracetamol?
Glad all the scans have been lovely! Is that everyone now? I'm 15+1 today and bump is looking rather big this week! Sure I've felt some kind of movements, few times when I've bent down to get something! My DS is adamant that there is two babies in there! He keeps giving them different names lol. But scan deffo only showed one!
bex that's a good deal for your pushchair! Think we will have a look after our 20 week scan for bits once we know the sex.
How's everyone else doing? Sorry to those who are still suffering with sickness it must be horrible x

OneInAMinion · 21/03/2014 08:24

Thanks whiteblossom, I wasn't particularly focused on it, but it was still a relief Smile

I'm 33 so not too far off. I think age does factor in slightly with >40 being the biggest impact.

bugoven · 21/03/2014 08:46

Morning everyone. So good to see all the happy, healthy scans. My result was 1.1mm, low risk at 1:17500 and I'm 30. Think it took a couple of weeks to come in the post.

I don't mean to moan but trying to give RL people a break. I still feel so nauseous. I have had the odd day where I feel better but the slightest bit of stress and I'm useless to anyone. I went into work yesterday morning, panicked, felt sick, cried and came home again. It feels the more I try to be in control ot distract myself yhe worse I feel. I am so cross with myself for not handling this better. This is a long awaited pregnancy and I had a very tough 2013, barely had any time of work and showed a lot of resilience. Now everything I have ever wanted is happening and I'm a mess! I was anxious about the pregnancy (mc Sept 2013) but now I feel quite confident about it so that can't be the source of my anxiety.

Sorry for the moan. I feel very positive and excited about it all most of the time.

Missingcaffeine · 21/03/2014 09:08

Morning all!

gunwalloe my NT was 2.2 @ 13+3. Sonographer said they were told in training that anything below 3 is good. Bascially, NT goes up with length of baby, so you would expect to have a higher NT, if your babies length is longer (i.e. the later your scan, the higher your NT will be). Down's babies tend to have a higher NT reading, usually above 3, but this doesn't guarantee that is all is well below 3, or all isn't above 3 - which is when the bloods help to improve the accuracy. On the other hand, people with a low NT can come back with abnormal bloods, which can also indicate other abnormalities and possibly more serious concerns, but in terms of Down's I think the NT reading is slightly more important than the bloods.
Bex I was also told, that they send the bloods to a lab in Birmingham, the results are faxed back within 48 hours, and if they are high risk, the midwife will phone within 3 days, otherwise if results are low risk, a letter comes in the post. Today is the day I'd get that call if I am high risk I guess, as scan was on Tuesday.

Cindy I would ask your husband to tackle his mum if subtle hints aren't working.

misog, english, lolee and weebairn congrats on the scans! I think you are the last!

Newly so glad things are finally improving. Hooray! Think you have had the roughest of times. I am fearful of the bellybutton pop. Do they ever go back in, after birth?!

Kt I find diet coke and rest helps my headaches, but mine are not related to sinuses. You could ask a pharmacist for advice on nasal sprays for sinuses. Steam (boiling water in a bowl with towel over head) is usually good for helping blocked sinuses.

weebairn well done for getting through your nights. Hope you get some good rest now. Nothing compares to a bed after finishing nights. I've worked my last long shift in this job now. Woo hoo! Start new job on 31st and TERRIFIED! They are going to hate me for starting new job pregnant, especially given my role (quite managerial).

Sorry for long post - just catching up!

gunwalloe · 21/03/2014 09:11

Wow those are fabulous nuchal results congrats ladies

I thought 2.4 was ok and then I did the stupid thing and googled I will have my risk number on Monday so fingers crossed it will be ok

rockin20s · 21/03/2014 09:13

i actually slept last night!!! i did wake to pee 3 times but fell back to sleep quickly, i seem to be sleeping well for 2 nights then don't sleep well fro 3-4 nights. I'm really getting sick of it. thanks god its Friday lie in tomorrow morning.

bug is this your first, i have read that with the first you wont feel anything till 19-20 weeks but with subsequent pregnancy you feel movement earlier, really want to feel movement. only 14 weeks so i have a while to go yet!

in Ireland they don't do the Nuchal fold or blood tests as standard you have to pay fro them privately. our abortion laws are stupidly stricked and they think by giving these tests more women will hop over the water to avail of your services. I have a look myself during our scan and the nuchal fold looked normal, but she would not measure it for me. i am only 28 so shouldn't be high risk so we wont be getting it done privately.

wow people are starting to buy buggys! i have only bought 3 baby grows. don't want to buy anything more yet. i am keeping an eye on the second hand facebook groups for my area for a buggy and a good carrier

i bought a Tula carrier a few weeks ago, gave it to my friend to use so that its not in the house (had forgotten i bought it till writing this post). i also want to buy a stretchy wrap (moby or jpmbb) as these are great for newborns.

gunwalloe · 21/03/2014 09:13

Thanks missing that's made me feel better :)
I must remember not to google!

rockin20s · 21/03/2014 09:20

cindy just saw your post, my MIL is a shopaholic so myself and DH have decided to tell her that we will not except anything into our house till the baby is born. that way she she will see the ridiculous amount of stuff she is buying as it will all be in her house. if its in our house she will drop down a bag of stuff every week and not comprehend how uch she has bought.

we are also making up a list of baby essentials and allowing her buy one or two of the 'bigger' items. i will be buying the cot and buggy as there is size considerations that we have to think about. But also mark of teh list who is getting us other things and what we already have so that she doesnt overbuy.

her shopaholic tendencies have been a big worry for me since we found out we were pregnant. so i got DH on board with my plans from very early on.

cookielove · 21/03/2014 10:04

We haven't bought anything yet, would be silly to as we need to clear up the flat and get it ready for tge lo. Buying stuff would just add more to the clutter!

Stuck at the hospital having a glucose tolerance test, 25 minutes left and then I'm free!

HippyJess · 21/03/2014 10:58

Morning all :)

Kt1991 I find the best thing for my sinus headaches is 4head menthol sticks, you can buy them pretty much anywhere and they're safe in pregnancy :) they're my saviour!

We haven't bought anything other than the odd cute sleepsuit, but already have a cot bed, changing table and Moses basket as we've been given them for free by friends! Too good to say no to! Also have a travel system (so buggy and car seat) promised from DP's brother :)

I've also been feeling bad again this week, mainly sinus headaches so I may be coming down with something :( also was sick again yesterday, only the second time for me thankfully but still surprising at 15 weeks today! Hope those of us all feeling crappy start to perk up soon xx

isitme1 · 21/03/2014 11:01

Cookie its a lil early for the gtt isnt it? They do it here at 24 weeks I think. Id rather do it now as I can manage not eating as I dont fancy eating atm but later on in pg its harder!

Not bought anything here yet. If it's a girl will need clothes and blankets. If its a boy we have lots! So closer to due date will need nappies and a new outfit or 2 for baba.

weebairn · 21/03/2014 11:34

So finally off night shifts and my toddler decided to wake up between 9.30pm and 2am last night. Normally her dad goes to her at night (particularly when I've been working lots) and anyway she mostly sleeps these days but last night she just wanted mama. And finally got her down at 2am and she still got up for the day at 5am. I feel like the walking dead. I can't remember the last time I slept...

weebairn · 21/03/2014 11:35

Have not bought anything here but am excited about getting out all DD's little tiny baby clothes. They are almost all unisex so I'll get to use them whatever! Awwwww

KitKat1985 · 21/03/2014 11:35

Hmmm. My combined test results came back 1 in 11,000 so low risk, but still seems much higher than a lot of you ladies? My nuchal fold reading was 2mm at 13+1 weeks. I'll be 29 when baby is born so not particularly old (she says trying to convince herself). I feel a bit anxious now.

weebairn · 21/03/2014 11:38

Don't be anxious KitKat. You have a 10,999/11,000 chance of everything being fine. This is why it's called "low risk!" Other people's numbers are not that relevant.

gunwalloe · 21/03/2014 11:39

kitkat I would be over the moon with that result ive never had one that high even at 16 myn was 1 in 6000

whiteblossom · 21/03/2014 12:26

bugoven I think you need to stop putting so much pressure on yourself. You can only do what you can do, you are pg for the first time, its all new new and its a lot to take it. Your not in control at the moment your hormones are, all you can do is go along for the ride. (and carry a plastic re-sealable food bag Grin )

With my first pg I had a mega meltdown, I was so ill and it was hitting home that I was growing a life inside me and all the implications of that- add to that, that this is a very much wanted baby for you and a difficult year prior...Feel free to moan away!

"Now everything I have ever wanted is happening and I'm a mess!" Just because this is very much what you wanted dosent mean you cant hate feeling ill and the lack of control you feel.

Take it easy where you can and look after yourself xx

whiteblossom · 21/03/2014 12:35

Ive not bought anything, I had a few lingering looks at clothes instore or practical stuff online but its felt too early so far but Im starting to want to. The urge to buy is getting greater Grin

I don't have to worry about inlaws buying too much- they haven't spoken to us in years- not that they would anyway!! My parents are retired and don't have the funds so that rules them out too. So its down to us. Im very envious of those being given/bought stuff.

cookie we are having a massive clear out too, we need to shuffle round the rooms. Lots of trips to the tip.

weebairn · 21/03/2014 12:39

You might be surprised when baby is here Whiteblossom… I specifically told all my mates I didn't want them to buy loads, and I still got presents from people I didn't even know existed.

I don't think I should have to buy much at all second time round. Will probably get less presents too!

CumbrianExile · 21/03/2014 12:52

Just had the scariest couple of hours. Had my 16 week midwife appt and the midwife couldnt find any heartbeat.
Ended up sending me to the EPU, where after a little struggle they eventually found it. I don't think I have ever felt so relieved! Apparently my placenta is a lot higher that most peoples, so she was looking in the wrong place this morning!

whiteblossom · 21/03/2014 13:27

Cumbrian that's interesting, so where abouts on your belly did they finally locate it? glad everything is alright, you must have been scared out of your wits!

my mw went straight to my lower right, really low and found it almost immediately but she had to count it to check it wasn't mine!.

I woke this morning and I have a very hard odd shaped bump going on until I stand and it looks like a nice normal shape in clothes. But when Im sat up I think it looks like I ate all the pies.

Pickles106 · 21/03/2014 14:29

Mine was 1 in 670.... Surprised/worried it wasn't in 1000s. Nuchal fluid was 1.6, papp a 0.87 (little low) free hcg 3.71 (high).

Letter came back saying low risk, but hcg results is freaking me out.

I'm 31.... Maybe I should stop googling and worry if/when need to.
