Hey Ickle, I know what you mean about the amount of choice. We're going for a bugaboo, we were considering an icandy but aside from the name (which really puts me off), we went out for lunch with friends today and there was a couple in the pub with an icandy bashing into everyone because they seemed unable to negotiate corners. A bugaboo sailed through the same obstacle course two minutes later with nary a hitch.

Also can I ask if anyone has starting using a count the kicks app? I started a couple of days ago, once a day whenever he feels active. But on advice of the app creators I won't actually use it as an alert to go in until 24 weeks (currently 20+6). Anyone else?

Incapinka · 02/03/2014 17:51

Liquid - yes starts off as hiccuppy flutters and then gets more recognisable movements. By the end you may find yourself pushing their limbs back in to your stomach!!

coco808 · 02/03/2014 18:25

i agree, choosing the pushchair is so confusing!
I think I have rushed into buying my iCandy now Sad
it is second hand so I can't return it either!

So I didn't quite make it to the end of the Hen party. Had to get DH to come fetch me (hour and a half away) at 1 p.m. sooooo tired now and ready for bed!

Good luck with your presentation tomorrow plate

ismarah · 02/03/2014 18:40

Ooh, shiny.

Coco You can always just resell it again - eBay? I had a similar quandary yesterday in Starbucks - saw a fairly old skool McLaren and suddenly worried about the length of my chosen pushchair. Did see that the M&P Sola2 was on offer with everything included but didn't really give it a spin..

Can anyone tell me about visits to see facilities in your hospital? Is it something all hospitals offer? Do you get invited or do you book or just show up? If you've been, was it helpful? Etc.

Plateofcrumbs · 02/03/2014 18:54

Ah coco I was just wondering if you survived! Grin

Thanks for the good luck for tomorrow - which reminds me I am only sat at the computer because I am supposed to be rehearsing it but I'm procrastinating wildly! Arrgh! On the plus side my procrastination means I now have a very shiny bathroom and I've watched so much of The Killing I'm practically fluent in Danish

I'm very impressed by everyone getting into pushchair buying already - I haven't got the first idea. I don't even really know what our requirements are - what am I actually going to do with a baby? Where will I go? Will I really ever leave the house again?

coco808 · 02/03/2014 19:01

Thanks ismarah, yeah I suppose I could sell it on. aarrgghhh...decisions!!
only if one place stocked them all and you could just pop in to try them and place an order Smile

I can sympathise with you plate I have got a presentation too tuesday but instead of preparing, I am browsing looking for a new tote !! Think I should be looking for a nappy bag instead...Wink

Incapinka · 02/03/2014 19:59

Good luck Plate! Hope you had a peaceful weekend and DH enjoyed his bike thingy. (I am so dismissive of what mine does poor chap!)

I am so impressed with people getting organised. I didn't last time at all but if any Of you buggy buyers want a good sturdy 3 wheeler for dog walks and easy to manoeuvre around town I can highly recommend the mountain buggy. Love mine. It is a bit big so I did buy a maclaren techno which I loathed so sold that on eBay and used the MB everywhere. DH who is 6'6 also loves it...

Howly · 02/03/2014 20:19

My baby is due on my birthday!! 26th July!

I was a bit like others on the push chair front and completely overwhelmed but went to this gorgeous little independent shop on sat and was shown a joolz day studio pram and it was fab!! It looks lovely with a leather handle and has beautifully think fabric in many colours, it's good for tall people ( I'm 6ft and DH is 6'4) as not only does the handl bar come up high but so does the carry cot and chair which is great because some prams is be breaking my back lifting child out! It's a at the higher end of the price scale but it's worth it, it's a solid pram unlike some of the other expensive prams which seem flimsy, so solid my 14st DH was encouraged to stand on the frame and bounce up and down! I'm so excited to have found the pram we want!! The car seat the shop recommended was a besafe izi go!!

mummytobejuly2014 · 02/03/2014 20:48

We've put a deposit down on the silver cross wayfayer, space isnt an issue for us & will not have to use on public transport etc. plan on using it downstairs during the day as the bamboo mattress in carrycot is suitable for overnight sleeping. been eyeing up the cath kidston large zip safari bag for a changing bag as I think we'll get more use out of it than a change bag. looking at the chicco next 2 me crib also as thinking it might help make bf easier etc, just hate the look of moses baskets & spending £50odd on by time you buy stand etc. looks like everyone is getting organised. have bought some 0-3 short & long sleeve vests as well as sleep suits, just need some newborn/upto 1 month size stuff to start us off. have 2 lovely knitted blankets, one asda & one vertbaudet. are the rest of you buying much clotheswise? glad to say we're just over half way now :) 4 months to go!

Patchwork88 · 02/03/2014 23:07

Our buggy was delivered last week. Went for a bugaboo bee in lovely yellow, and have enjoyed the maneuverability (round the flat lol). Made our choice based on light weight and narrower for public transport and lack of storage space for anything bulkier.
Update on scan is that we're having a surpise, but going for another scan tomorrow as couldn't get everything they needed last time. Not worried as it seems perfectly normal but it does seem a bit weird.
Bump is feeling huge at 22 weeks(can't believe I'm still going to get bigger) but invested in a pregnancy pillow yesterday, which revolutionised my sleep last night. I highly recommend it to any reluctant side sleepers!

lemonpoppyseed · 02/03/2014 23:50

We have an Uppababy Vista, which we bought for DS, and used every day for two and a half years (little monkey wants to 'walk', i.e. be carried everywhere, now). It still looks brand new. We live in the city, and don't use the car that often; it's perfect for lots of walking. If I was folding it up and putting in the car all the time, I think it would be too big. We also live in a very snowy and icy place, and you can lock the front wheels so that it is easy to push without sliding all over the place. It was expensive, but when you work out the cost per day, over time, it is a good purchase. It also came with the bassinet, which we used as the crib until DS got too long (about 3.5 months I think).

liquid, hiccups is exactly what it feels like to me! Another way to describe it is like when you have a goldfish in a plastic bag, and as it swims around, occasionally it bumps into the outside, then you can feel it :) I can feel kicks and rolls from the outside now, too, but of course baby stops moving when DH puts his hand there...

Oh, the heartburn. I am self-medicating with gaviscon and vanilla ice cream...

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 03/03/2014 05:32

Eugh. Think this marks a week of 4am wake ups. :( can't find a position to sleep in that doesn't make me sore or achy. Going to invest in a pregnancy pillow to see if that's the magic bullet.

jaykay987 · 03/03/2014 05:56

that's good to know lemon I ordered my uppababy vista on Friday. FX it lives up to expectations!

ismarah I think typically you have to book. Hospital websites have the info. Though Frimley doesn't do one - as do some others - instead they have replaced with an online video which just isn't the same! Though guess when I'm in hospital I'll be grateful there isn't a tour wandering round!

mrsb I've fallen for a skip hop one from JL. eBay do copies though which are cheaper. I'm going down this route too. I did look st changing bags, but just didn't find one I liked with a price ticket I liked

icklekid · 03/03/2014 06:15

So glad it's not just me looking at these things nice and early. Think we have decided on the sola city from m&p going to wait to see if they have any offers over next few months (it wasn't included in their recent 10% off) just in case!

jay can totally relate to finding a changing bag I like, dh likes and isn't £100!

plate good luck today hope it goes well

coco I can't stay awake until 9 so very impressed hope you enjoyed it!

BlueC2 · 03/03/2014 07:19

Right, that's it I finally admit defeat! Its off to the docs for lactulose and gaviscon on prescription this morning-was awake half the night with super painful trapped wind Blush and horrid heartburn! Been wondering how long would last before I had to go to the docs! Also woken with the start of a cold-just as we start my childminder's 2 month break (they are adopting a little boy same age as DS-SO excited for them though I do keep getting v emotional about the whole thing!)

Re hospital visits if you are doing NCT do not mention this when you ring the hospital to book your parentcraft class/visit-our hospital refused to let me go because I mentioned NCT Shock v naughty of them but thankfully i have a midwife friend who gave us a tour instead which was v handy.

BlueC2 · 03/03/2014 07:23

Ps jay my changing bag was my indulgent purchase at £75ish but has been SO worth it and I still love it. They do get a real battering if you're out and about.

My 'couldn't have managed without' purchase for DS was our baby bjorn bouncer chair-expensive but totally worth it, loads second hand on eBay and resell well too!

Ipsumlorem · 03/03/2014 08:02

Just marking place on new thread!

I've been reading - just not had time to post lately. Congrats for all the scans and I see we have quite a lot of boys. We are hopefully finding out on Wednesday Smile

Have had to admit defeat and work from home today - had a good day sat but ill yesterday again and this morning. Just can't face the commute Sad

You are all so organised! I haven't bought anything big yet - might take a look round shops next weekend though to get the ball rolling Grin

Patchwork88 · 03/03/2014 08:42

itsalwaysbetteronholiday - I have the dream genii pillow and it really is the only way I've got comfy. worth the moneySmile

ismarah · 03/03/2014 09:27

DH felt his first kick last night!

I've not actually bought anything although I've done the research and could buy everything online in an hour. We're going on holiday in 10 days and will probably shop some there. Then we have to reorganise the house in order to fit the things we need for bean, as until we start/finish building we will have no room anywhere.

Oh and bean is 90% girl. Sonographer couldn't be 100% but seemed pretty sure. We're not pink though.

And welcome new beans and ladies Wine

talulahbelle · 03/03/2014 13:12

lemon I can recommend love heart sweets as a tastier alternative to gaviscon. They definitely work on the milder heartburn.
Movement wise I am getting definite flutters now, I had a can of coke Friday night and baby was wiggling like mad. I can't wait for movements to pick up.

I have a secondhand uppababy vista, just need to get the car seat for it now, maxi cosi I guess as that's what we have the adapters for.

NancyinCali · 03/03/2014 14:51

Saw my first kick externally last night when in the bath! I can't remember when that happened with dd1 but definitely not this early (19 weeks). Was a really big and noticeable movement. I'm brewing another big baby aren't I?! DD1 was 8lb14.

BlueC2 · 03/03/2014 14:58

So exciting to hear everyone feeling kicks and movement now :) although my bean seems to have decided my bladder makes a good trampoline Hmm which means they're taking after their big brother already!

Just catching a fews mins rest on the sofa before DS wakes up from his nap now I've done my list of jobs for the afternoon.

We do seem to be having more outbreaks of sunshine inbetween the rain so I'm getting excited at the prospect that Spring might actually (finally!) be on it's way! Woohoo!

Plateofcrumbs · 03/03/2014 15:26

Well I survived the presentation - actually it caused a bit of a heated debate and a created a whole load of new work. But the main thing was, after having a complete wobble the other week, I've rediscovered my ability to present coherently and without hyperventilating. So that's something - I was worried pregnancy had rendered me incapable!

I was watching an Uppababy Vista on ebay just out of curiosity last night, which seemed to be at a very reasonable price with 15 minutes to go. So I threw a bid in assuming that there would be some last minute sniping - then nothing happened for 14 minutes and I was panicking I'd made a fantastically rash purchase. Fortunately there was a flurry of bids in the last 60 seconds and I was saved from my reckless ebay finger!

MrsB2013 · 03/03/2014 16:21

Everything baby related is confusing lol I change my mind all the time on what we want/need!

Lemon love the description like a goldfish in a bag lol that is exactly what it feels like!!

jaykay is this the sort of one you were looking at? I did see them in store the other week: www.johnlewis.com/skiphop-pronto-changing-station-bag/p791324

Congrats on the scan Ismarah do you want pink adding to the list?

Who else is having a scan this week??

Debenhams have a sale online (in store from tomorrow) use code NK63 for extra 10% off ;)

Plateofcrumbs · 03/03/2014 16:39

My scan is tomorrow - I have the fear! I was really relaxed before my 12 week scan then we had the scary results / CVS etc so I'm dead nervous about this one.

I'm not even sure I want to look at the screen - is that ridiculous? How does it work - if I didn't look at the screen until they've performed all their essential checks, would I still have a chance at the end to have a peek if they establish everything is OK?
