Thread 5 already! Sorry about the un-witty title. Am awake because baby is having a party in my belly... Smile

I've had small drinks a couple of times, but generally I find it easier to abstain wholly – especially if we're out for the afternoon / evening with friends as having one reminds me how lovely alcohol is! I also find even one makes me really tired and as tiredness is the thing I've struggled with most this pregnancy I don't need any extra sleepiness on top!

Like someone else, I also find that even though most research says it's safe in moderation, the worry about the alcohol affecting the baby generally negates the pleasantness!

In my head I don't think there's any problem with a few glasses a week (or even one a day at this stage!) so I definitely don't judge anyone.

Back from the docs with a simple 'basic' cough linctus and a new shiny bottle of Peptac (like Gaviscon). Unfortunately the linctus is very citric so I suspect whilst helping the cough will probably make the heartburn worse! Somehow managed to stagger around soft play at our local gym with DS too so he was able to get a good run around after being cooped up with me for last 2 days. Now he's asleep I'm going to try and nap though so wiLl catch up properly later.

Gin

Staying still and trying to breathe out very slowly (lips like blowing out candles on a cake) help me.

if I try to move..umm, well, I just can't! Grin

I tend to feel my belly going rock hard, especially the top of it.
it can last for up to 5 minutes from start to finish, the worst bit probably a minute or so, but it was less with the first few pregnancies.

I do suggest to just stop walking or what you are doing, stand or sit still until it passes.
hope this helpsSmile

ZingHasAHotCrossBunInTheOven · 23/04/2014 13:32

and I've just read about the bloke checking with your DH about champagne! Shock
hilariously rude!
if that happens again please say "actually here's my dad's number, better check with him as he is in charge & head decicion maker of our family!" Grin

unbelievable!

AuntieMaggie · 23/04/2014 13:54

Home the classes are the nhs ones and I thought it was really good... I have an advantage as the physio sessions are taught by my physio so she could relate stuff to my situation. I looked at nct but as I'm having a hospital birth with limited options and we would struggle to afford them I decided to stick with the nhs ones.

Did you know there is a pelvic floor exercise app?

ellentullo · 23/04/2014 14:04

Gin - agree that it is very annoying when people confidently pronounce their expertise or based on dodgy interpretation of medical research, but in the case you sight above, it makes me even more cross that it came from a bloke who has absolutely no role in your pregnancy. The feminist in me cringes. Maybe he would be happier if your husband had you on lead during pregnancy

I haven't had anyone be as outrageous, I just get missed out when drinks get offered - even cups of tea! I take perverse delight in asking for "normal" tea

In another incident of pregnancy judgementalism, read an article the other day about a 6-month pregnant woman out jogging being called a "selfish cow" by another mother pushing a baby in pram (whilst smoking a tab)

HomeIsWhereTheGinIs · 23/04/2014 14:27

Zing and Ellen Shocking isn't it? DH was totally taken aback and told our friend that he had no idea why his opinion was being asked given that I'd already answered. Was really shocking - usually we'd just smile and nod so as not to embarrass our host but it was so bizarre that I spoke without thinking. Maybe they think DH abuses me every time he hands me a glass? Weird. I fail to understand why anyone apart from my DH would care at all about how I act with regards to our baby.

Auntie I shall have to look into the app thing! Thanks!

Plateofcrumbs · 23/04/2014 14:29

Gin - wow I'd have poured the champagne over his head!

Am definitely not judgey about anyone having the occasional drink, am just not especially enjoying the drinks I have tried.

On a different topic - I've got this on-going pain in the middle of my back which is now radiating round to my bump and I have a sort of burning/numb sensation round the top of the bump on one side. I presume it's just some kind referred nerve pain thing but it's bloody uncomfortable. The birthing ball I bought hasn't turned up yet and sitting at my desk is agony.

HomeIsWhereTheGinIs · 23/04/2014 14:30

Also ellen the "selfish cow" thing makes me really angry. It's perfectly safe for fit women to continue to exercise as long as their physician agrees. What right does someone in the street have to pass arbitrary judgement? Nobody should have to justify their decisions to strangers. I wonder if it might be more about being cross because they didn't do much during pregnancy themselves and therefore want all women to flop about and do nothing? I find it strange, this constant meddling and verbal abuse. It's so mean!

ismarah · 23/04/2014 15:28

As I don't normally drink alcohol, tea, or coffee, I haven't had to give those up / tolerate looks, which makes it very easy. I'm not a mossy health freak or anything, I just don't like the taste... I am on the other hand downing more paracetamol than I did pre-pregnancy which doesn't make me feel awesome even though it's on the 'allowed' list and even though I'm only taking a couple, every couple of days.

I think I understand this whole having children thing right in that they are likely to drive you to drink? I've always fancied the idea of a nice glass of something of an evening and now maybe I will finally manage it... WineBrew

The first time I went to Starbucks and ordered a barista-made drink, rather than a soft drink or a water, I felt oh so grown-up! Blush Grin

ZingHasAHotCrossBunInTheOven · 23/04/2014 15:33

I find pg women running or cycling just fascinating - because there's is no way I could do that!
I'm in awe of them - so positive judging!

AuntieMaggie · 23/04/2014 15:54

I would still be zumbaing if it weren't for my ankle but there is a woman in my antenatal class who does spin 6 nights a week!

icklekid · 23/04/2014 15:57

Wow love how busy the thread is again Smile
I've given up drinking but mainly don't fancy it any more wouldn't judge anyone else who did- 1 glass isn't going to do any harm.

Also being rude to someone exercising makes me really cross- I've noticed such a positive difference with my spd having started exercising again has been amazing will keep going as long as I can!

Just had Whooping cough jab which was fine but bled over my white top Sad then midwife appointment where I'm measuring large and I could tell from the moment she started looking taking blood was going to be painful! I have a huge bruise and it did indeed hurt! Oh well done now...urine also showed sugar- did eat 2 sweets before I went whoops! Hopefully ok in 3 weeks time so don't need gtt test!

ZingHasAHotCrossBunInTheOven · 23/04/2014 16:13

(I can't believe I've just said that!Grin )

AuntieMaggie · 23/04/2014 16:13

ickle do what I didn't do even though I was told to and keep moving the arm you had the jab in... it helps to stop swelling apparently but I forgot.

AuntieMaggie · 23/04/2014 16:13

Lol zing Grin

icklekid · 23/04/2014 17:25

Lol zing that made me laugh!!
The jab arm is fine, the one that she annihilated to get blood out of is so sore!!!

ZingHasAHotCrossBunInTheOven · 23/04/2014 17:45

ZingHasAHotCrossBunInTheOven · 23/04/2014 17:46

thread's filling up - happy to start a new one when it hits 990 posts.
(so noone post after that please till I linked new one.)

Plateofcrumbs · 23/04/2014 18:06

My NCT class starts tomorrow. I was a bit put out that in chat during my yoga class last week it transpired another of the ladies was going to be in the same NCT group - I tried to stop her to say 'hi' afterwards but she legged it without saying a word - hope that's not a precedent for the level of friendliness we can expect!

icklekid · 23/04/2014 18:30

Ohh plate we can come back tomorrow and share experiences fingers crossed all good.
zing have had frozen peas on it is so swollen and bruised!

Just so I can mentally prepare how many more blood tests do I have? This was 28 week appointment (at 29 but still...)

ZingHasAHotCrossBunInTheOven · 23/04/2014 18:43

ickle you know you can refuse them..

so, bloods next at 36 weeks (unless any problems)
that's it.

happy?Smile

Plateofcrumbs · 23/04/2014 18:43

Just googling the symptoms of my back pain/rib pain/numb bump and it seems pretty common and something I might just have to live with...but WHY OH WHY is there always one person for whom it was a sign of a life-threatening condition? Confused Just what I need to set the paranoia into overdrive!

ZingHasAHotCrossBunInTheOven · 23/04/2014 18:51

Plate

just ring the hospital and talk to a MW if you are worried.
they can ask more relevant questions and will see you if needed.
stop panicking and get checked, ok?
that's what they are there for!
the rib pain and numbness if bump is probably not that common and while it might be nothing it is worth making sure everything's ok.

just call them please
