Hungry Did you have a tough birth with DD?

Shak Hope the test goes well!

Ruggle · 09/01/2014 14:59

I know it's normal to suffer from constipation in pregnancy, but I seem to have the opposite problem. I woke up with worrying cramp-like pain but it was an upset tum rather than uterus related (thankfully), and then my usual morning vom. Urgh. Sorry for sharing!
Anyway, I just wondered if it's common to get an upset tum rather than blocked up. I think I was slightly constipated in the first few weeks, but not since then...though not sure which is worse.

WeeJo08 · 09/01/2014 15:20

Ruggle I seem to go between the two! One day I'm stuffed up and the next day "up" is definitely not the direction stuff is going!! Blush

Shakshuka · 09/01/2014 15:22

Ive just been told that the estimated cost of my blood tests is $4700! They're bonkers!!!

CountdownBegins · 09/01/2014 15:23

Rugger I seem to alternate between the the two too- what a thrill :/

Feelingfatty · 09/01/2014 15:27

Yep my bowels have been all over the shop!!

Wow that's a lot of money!! I assume that's covered in your policy?? (Nhs here so no idea!!) and don't beat yourself up about weight gain it's so difficult when you feel so rough! My only advice is not to think 'oh well I will stop weighing myself as don't want to get hung up on it' that's what I did with dd...4 stone later!! Took a year for that to come off and a lot of hard work!!

I feel SO ROUGH today just want to hide in a hole!!

CountdownBegins · 09/01/2014 15:31

Ruggle not rugger...

travispickles · 09/01/2014 15:34

Me too for the rough day. An on bed having left work as early as poss. Splitting headache :-(

Missvaughan85 · 09/01/2014 15:42

Ruggle, I alternate between the two,

Missvaughan85 · 09/01/2014 15:43

One minute blocked up. The next running to the loo.
I've had my scan through 28th jan!!! I'll be 11+7!!! So excited now!!!

Feelingfatty · 09/01/2014 15:49

Great news miss v although 11+7 is 12 isn't it Wink

HungryHorace · 09/01/2014 15:50

Jo, DD was facial presentation and totally wedged. So I had an EMCS, where they struggled to free her. When she was freed she wasn't responsive and had to be 'roughed up' to rouse her. Because they were working on her with an oxygen mask I didn't get to hear her cry so was scared witless about what was happening.

I wasn't able to have skin to skin as her blood gases weren't right so after a brief cuddle she was taken to SCBU. Only for 4 hours, thankfully, but it meant that I wasn't able to feed her for ages and I think contributed to me not succeeding at breast feeding with her.

So, yeah, a little tough!

Diarrhoea can be a side effect of constipation. Something to do with impacted poo, I think! TMI?!

HungryHorace · 09/01/2014 15:51

I thought that about 11+7, Fatty! :-)

Feelingfatty · 09/01/2014 15:51

Can indeed hungry I saw it on embarrassing bodies Blush sorry you had such an awful first birth!!

Secretlypregnant · 09/01/2014 15:54

I think I'm the other one with a scan on the 24th, over, I think mine's around lunchtime.

And yes, horribly constipated. Could do with a dose of the other to be honest! Linseeds for me later.

One of the friends I made through nct has just told us - nct group - that she is pregnant again! Four weeks . . . I haven't told them my news yet - waiting for the scan!

Ruggle · 09/01/2014 16:06

Another question. Anyone else getting occasional sharp shooting pains in their unmentionables?

Shakshuka · 09/01/2014 16:12

ruggle

I have exactly the same on and off since about 5 weeks. I had it today - it was so painful, I had to move around. Doesn't last long though.

Same with toilet habits as well Blush. Not bunged up, quite the opposite.

feelingfatty
No, only had to pay $40. But it makes you realise what a messed up system they have here and that the NHS really isn't so bad (as a system). When the guy saw my shock at the price tag he said 'lucky you have insurance'. So I told him that where I come from, you don't even worry about the money. It was his turn to be shocked and he looked at me and said 'But how can that work!'. Many people here really can't grasp the concept of free at the point of delivery!!

NameToBeDecided · 09/01/2014 16:23

Anyone heard from fee?

I'm the same, going between very constipated one day to uh, very un-constipated the next!!

my scan is on 28th, be my 3rd one already Grin I think I'm due to end up with at least 5 scans by the end, not that I'm complaining! maybe I can see if they're doing any studies or training where they need volunteers to be scanned too Grin

2beornot · 09/01/2014 16:26

Shak - it's good in a way though. We don't even think about the costs of things but their certainly not free!! I think nhs patients would get a shock if they saw the size of their bill!

2beornot · 09/01/2014 16:27

They're not their Angry

HungryHorace · 09/01/2014 16:28

I found out that I have the same number of midwife appointments as last time, which I think is unusual with a second (+) child. Have most non-first timers got fewer appts with the midwife. I'll see the consultant twice too, so I'll be all over everywhere this time!

NameToBeDecided · 09/01/2014 16:46

No hungry I've got fewer standard midwife appointments, but I do have to meet with the consultant to see if I need to be hospital or midwife led, and I'll go to vbac classes as well as the standard antenatal.

2beornot · 09/01/2014 16:49

I don't know yet, Hungry. Booking appt is next week. But I am anticipating fewer midwife appt this time (although I didn't think there were too many last time!)

wejammin · 09/01/2014 16:51

marking my place Grin
Just had a really awkward conversation at work, two of my team have booked long holidays for this December leaving only a junior staff member and me in theory. so everyone was saying it's fine because I'll be there to supervise her. Except hopefully I won't, but I can't tell them that yet!
My nausea totally went between about 7 and 9 weeks but appears to have re-emerged. icky. Thankfully I'm not a vommer, I wasn't last time either.

Rose, my bump is huge by afternoon too. I'm carrying files all day to hide it.

HungryHorace · 09/01/2014 17:05

I get 16, 24, 28, 31, 34, 36, 38 and 40 week appointments. Plus I'll see the midwife after my two scans.

I'm not doing antenatal this time. It's not long since last time so I've not forgotten anything!

My MW today was impressed that I'd recognised my waters had meconium in them with DD. Brownie point! :-)
