mssleepyhead · 08/01/2014 20:59

thanks everyone. the paperwork says it will be an internal scan. i guess that will be a bit uncomfortable but if it gives the best results i'm ok with it. fingers crossed, then...

QueenOfGeeks · 08/01/2014 21:00

Yes mssleepy, I had my first scan at 7+3 and we saw a heartbeat.

FriendofDorothy · 08/01/2014 21:05

I had quite a few dildocams during my last pregnancy. I am a size 18/20 so I almost preferred them at the start because it was possible to see a lot more!

Missvaughan85 · 08/01/2014 21:08

Sleepy I've had numerous internal scans over the course of 12 years and they are fine from my experience. Even had one at 5/6 weeks with previous pregnancy, you can actually see better with them as they get closer to everything, I had a private scan last weekend. External and they lady said I had a retroverted womb, I've never been too that before, it means my womb tilts backwards. Which would answer why I have backache badly when on my period. X x

mssleepyhead · 08/01/2014 21:11

thank you everyone. you've been so kind and helpful with all this - would have been hard without you!

hopefully i'll be back with good news tomorrow x

Missvaughan85 · 08/01/2014 21:13

Name I've just seen your post about retroverted. I can't believe no one has picked mine up earlier. She did have to push harder to see, but it was all there. Just under 4 weeks hopefully until next scan x

NameToBeDecided · 08/01/2014 21:23

MissVaughan Mine is quite severely retroverted so it doesn't flip forward till quite late. They think it might be why dd1 was breech so I get to have more scans in late pg too, to make sure this one's the right way up Grin

HungryHorace · 08/01/2014 21:24

Name, that's great news. :-)

Travis, yy re tiredness = worse sickness. I think I'm faring better this time as I'm not having to get up before 6am and do a full day's work. My sickness was always better at weekends when I didn't have to get up too.

Is anyone else tired but struggling to sleep? Does my head in!

Shakshuka · 08/01/2014 21:29

sleepy
mine at 6 and 8 weeks were internal. i'm surprised that they've been doing abdominal so early - I thought it was standard. The heartbeat was picked up at the first one (6+5).

Good luck tomorrow! I hope it all goes OK.

Secretlypregnant · 08/01/2014 21:29

mssleepyhead I had a 9+6 scan yesterday and they started with an internal and also did an external (because they couldn't see one of my ovaries). The doctor who did it said that the internal gives a better image.

She was able to tell me that my womb tilts to the side a lot.

In my first pregnancy I had a scan around 7 weeks and that was internal.

Both times it was a bit uncomfortable but not painful. And I was so happy to see that everything was OK that it was very easy to bear. Squeezing Dh's hand VERY hard helped.

Missvaughan85 · 08/01/2014 21:31

Oh name don't think mines that bad or she didn't seem to think so, and daughter wasn't in an awkward position.

I had the realisation that something rather large has to come out of my vagina today. My DH laughed, he said haven't you done it before. I said yeh but I thought shit I've got to do this again.

NameToBeDecided · 08/01/2014 21:33

Thanks hungry I actually feel excited today for the first time, I haven't dared to up until now. I know things aren't certain even now but the odds are so much better.
I'm struggling to sleep which is really frustrating as I'm so tired. Once I'm asleep I generally stay there, just takes a while to get there!

NameToBeDecided · 08/01/2014 21:39

MissVaughan I actually found out about mine when I was about 15. I used to get horrendous period pains in my back so much so that I couldn't stand straight at times so they did a scan to see what was going on. Luckily they were only that bad for s few years but now I know about it I can dose up before af arrives, won't have to worry about it for a while now though!

2beornot · 08/01/2014 21:44

Fee, I hope you're ok. Just do whatever you have to do to get through it. I'll be thinking of you. Good work on the cervix checking! Wish I was more I tune with my body!

I came home from work to a letter from the hospital with my scan date. It's a little later than I'd like (24th when I'll be 12+4) but I'm excited! Trying not to get too excited but can't help it now!

Secretlypregnant · 08/01/2014 21:54

My 12 week scan is on the 24th too, 2beornot. I think it's going to be impossible not to get a bit excited!

BunnyBaby · 08/01/2014 22:04

Fee and Sleepy - fingers crossed all goes well for you.

They couldn't find any reason for my spotting, could see heartbeat clearly at 7+0. The lady at the EPU said that dehydration can cause spotting, so drink lots of water. I also included cranberry juice to that mix too, as urine infections can also be sneaky spotting causers. I haven't had any red spots since Monday (aside from the smudge of old blood on Tuesday).

I was also told that as you approach the times when you would normally have a period (4, 8, 12 weeks) the hormones change, and that can also trigger spots.

Try to drink lots of water and try not to worry.

If you have to wait for a scan till Monday, and have a bit of spare cash, you may get one earlier privately. I paid £120 and it was done by an experience obstretician, and the private clinics are often open in an evening. Though that is quite a lot, as others have said they can get it cheaper, perhaps it's the 'London' premium, although we are home counties.

Off to bed, sleep well lovelies (and beans) x

WeeJo08 · 08/01/2014 23:36

Lovely meal out tonight for Mum's 60th - really enjoyed it...right up until I felt really sick after dessert & had to leave my lovely (decaf) cappuccino to go to the ladies & have (tmi alert) diarrhoea Confused I am a bit of a fainter when it comes to stomach cramps so the whole time I was (silently) chanting "Don't faint don't faint don't faint!!" Aaarrgghh. Oh well. That was about an hour & a half ago and I feel okay now. I think it might've been because I'm not used to having such a lot to eat (had 3 courses + coffee) as I've been eating little & often over the past few weeks.

Hope you're okay FEE & MsSleepy & you get a good night's sleep. Hope everyone else does too!

flymo79 · 09/01/2014 08:43

good luck to Fee and MsSleepy today, everything crossed for you.

Got a stressful day ahead with a conference and lots of running about, nearly cried at the prospect of it all and at my boss being in a massive mood. just can't wait for the weekend.
11 weeks today but scan not for 12 days, how will I ever wait that long???!

Just checking in.

Hope those with bleeds/early scans are ok. It's such a worrying time-I hope bosses are nice about it.

I'm 9+5 today and getting a bit annoyed that I still don't know when my scan is. Do you think I can ring the hospital to check the midwife has out me on the system? Who would I ring-EPU?

AntoinetteCosway · 09/01/2014 08:46

WeeJo I empathise with the diarrhea-I randomly had it terribly yesterday!

flymo79 · 09/01/2014 09:07

antoinette, I would definitely ring the hospital and ask to speak to a midwife, I don't know if you can ring EPU directly, just give it a try

Feelingfatty · 09/01/2014 09:09

Antoinette I would ring hospital and ask if you can be transferred to scan unit, I'm sure you're on system even if you haven't had your letter Smile

AntoinetteCosway · 09/01/2014 09:17

Will do, thanks!

Feelingfatty · 09/01/2014 09:28

They were really nice when I rang about my booking in/scan (especially as it was a good job I had as doctor had messed up!!)

AntoinetteCosway · 09/01/2014 09:34

Just rang-I'm on the system but nothing's been booked yet as they have a backlog. She said to call back on Monday so fingers crossed for then!
