Zing is right talulah. We had no idea before DD. And don't know much more now! You'll figure it out, honestly. Join a good group (NCT or other) for support and you will all muddle through together.

Plateofcrumbs · 22/12/2013 19:54

The idea of actually having a baby is far too overwhelming to even think about! I'm in denial! Grin

Just had to speak to in-laws about Christmas food plans - I fear I wasn't very helpful but the only thing I feel like eating at the moment is cheesy chips, so it's a bit difficult to get enthused! Can't wait to tell them, mainly so I have a decent excuse for being a grump!

fifi669 · 22/12/2013 20:33

When it comes to parenting, if you're both in one piece, fed and clothed you're doing fine.

ZingChoirsOfAngels · 22/12/2013 21:35

well, I'm back on ice chips after another "episode" - today I kept down precisely 2 mince pies.

so I've decided there's no way I'm going to Bil's on Boxing Day.
It's an hour and a half drive each way. I will not cope.

so I'll stay home with DS2 and DD and MrZing can take the other 4, his parents and his aunt. (we have an 8-seater)
it's not ideal, but that's life. I just can't face the journey.
And it would be easier to just tell everyone, but we've decided to wait till after scan.

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 23/12/2013 07:27

I'm with you talulah. I'm a total ignoramus when it comes to kids. I'm hoping DH and I can get by through our old tried and tested formula of "winging it". Yesterday I seemed to get by with my 18 month old niece through playing Duplo and swinging her up in the air... but I'm in awe of how all my BIL and SILs manage, and they all have more than one kid!

Zing - sounds like the right decision - no point making yourself miserable. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Had a weird thing at a pre-Christmas family event yesterday as my SIL is also pregnant (a couple of weeks behind me) but we haven't told her yet that I am as well... had to bite my tongue from joining in on the morning sickness rant! Weird to think that they will all know by the end of this week (we've decided to tell close family and friends this week even though it'll be before the scan, as we'd likely tell them if something went wrong anyway).

This is on top of being at a Christmas meal event with friends yesterday, one of whom is 7-8 months pregnant, and having to stop ourselves from asking too many questions! I think that and the fact we were in a pub for five hours and I wasn't drinking may have given them a slight clue anyway...

seriously I would be a rubbish secret agent. Roll on Jan 6th when I can tell nearly anyone I want!

BlueC2 · 23/12/2013 07:54

Aargh been awake since 3am so much to do today but SO tired and now (when I have to get up) I finally feel like I could sleep again! Think I'm gonna have to nap this afternoon to avoid turning into a total dragon later!

liquidstate · 23/12/2013 08:18

I have been having lovely afternoon naps! Yesterday I slept on the sofa from 2 till 5pm. The waking at 3am is annoying though.

Unfortunately I have two full on days in a row this Christmas, Christmas day at the in laws and Boxing day at another in laws party (which is also a long drive away). I can't get out of Boxing day unless I do a really spectacular projectile vomit in the morning Hmm

Plateofcrumbs · 23/12/2013 08:35

Another one here who has been awake since early hours and now feels ready to sleep. But today has in store: packing bags for 5 days way with family, visit consultant to talk about the potential surgery, 2 hour drive to family, do the big christmas supermarket shop for family, generally try to be merry and festive. Xmas Confused

BlueC2 · 23/12/2013 08:47

plate and liquid I feel your sleepy pain for today! plate hope all goes well with consultant!

talulahbelle · 23/12/2013 09:10

Another one that woke up wide awake in the middle of the night. Couldn't get back to sleep due to feeling sick, and stressing about all the people we have over Xmas day. My DB rubs me and nearly all of the rest of the family (except my mum) up the wrong way. I have decided to manage him by keeping him supplied with food, and if he comes out with anything too Daily Mail-esk I will just have to hide in my bed room.
Stil in bed now, DH let me go back to sleep whilst he did an early supermarket run. Got to go get the festive meat order later though.

AuntieMaggie · 23/12/2013 09:23

Who else is having a scan today? Mine is this afternoon and I am struggling to concentrate in work!

jbiscuits · 23/12/2013 10:37

had our scan this morning Smile. one very wriggly and camera shy baby here, but all looks well Grin the photo looks like he's waving at us! really excited about telling everyone over Christmas now!

amended EDD: 2nd july

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 23/12/2013 12:01

That's great news jbiscuits!

I had my booking in this morning which made it all seem scarily real, especially the last part where the midwife had to take two attempts at getting blood out of me (I hope this isn't going to be a regular occurrence). So many questions. Was really glad DH came with me because I wouldn't have remembered half the stuff they asked about his medical history.

I'm partly telling the people we're seeing on Christmas Day (just my dad and my great aunt) so that I have a valid excuse to fall asleep on the sofa after lunch.

FoxtrotOscarBackToEconomy · 23/12/2013 16:03

Afternoon all. Feel crap with nausea today. I did THE FINAL CHRISTMAS FOOD SHOP this morning, had lunch and then DH sent me to bed.

Parents due to arrive in a few minutes. Can't face the thought of cooking dinner tonight at the moment. My mother might have to step in which makes me feel bad because she's had a day of travelling.

DS currently sat on my knee playing with my phone while I'm on the computer typing with one hand!

AuntieMaggie · 23/12/2013 17:01

Scan was great :)

My bladder was too full and hurt when I led on my back - the sonographer said its because I have a retroverted uterus which also makes it more difficult to scan so sent me to half empty my bladder (remember what you said about weeing a little bit zing?)

Very wriggly little one in there who turned its back on us at one point Grin

getagoldtoof · 23/12/2013 19:03

Fab news about the scan jb and aunt. I'm in the waiting room for mine. Bit scared. Had to palm ds off on dbro, bless him, he hasn't asked why we're at a mystery appointment at such an odd time!

Haven't managed to tell family yet, and we were desperate not to make a Christmas announcement, but looks like we'll have to discreetly mention it to family tomorrow.

AuntieMaggie · 23/12/2013 19:32

thanks getagoldtoof good luck for yours

we've told the parents on both sides - I think they're all shocked and happy (and my mother didn't have a clue after my earlier worry)

MrsB2013 · 23/12/2013 21:23

Hi everyone!

Great news on the scans Jbiscuits and Auntie!! I must have a lazy baby, mine was just laying there with legs crossed lol

I'm another one who keeps waking in the night, exactly 4am for the last few nights and I stay awake for about an hour :(

Anyone suffering sickness, I really hope it disappears for you over Christmas!!

Not been on our thread for ages as have been really fecking ill with hyperdermis and bloody everything else.

Had 12 week scan today though and it was most amazing thing ever. Really magical! Baby was really wriggling too and flapping it's arms and legs about. Grin

somedizzywhore1804 · 23/12/2013 23:06

Oh yes and amended edd 8.7.14

HomeIsWhereTheGinIs · 23/12/2013 23:12

Hello all, I have a query for those that have been this way before. I'm eyeing up the lovely dresses at jojomaman bebe. At 11 weeks I still fit my clothes but they're getting a bit snug - worth buying a new maternity wardrobe in the sales do you think? Or won't I be able to use any of it for another three months? When did you move into maternity clothes?

Casmama · 23/12/2013 23:37

First time I think I was about 17-18 weeks before I needed maternity clothes but this time am already wearing some bits and pieces. Tbh I think it is more bloatedness than baby at this stage but finding waistbands uncomfortable.
Dresses are easier because you don't need a bump to keep them up so you could certainly buy dresses.

Plateofcrumbs · 24/12/2013 05:05

Yay for everyone having scans, boooo to the sickness.

Visit to consultant yesterday about ovarian cysts - said they wouldn't do anything unless I'm in severe pain with them. So that's a relief I think, although consultant was a bit brusque so didn't feel hugely reassuring at the time - it felt more like she just wanted to get rid of me. They're booking me in for another scan, hopefully, though.

Awake early again - 4:15 today, joy!

Actually threw up for the first time yesterday - in the car on motorway, thankfully I wasn't driving! Grin.

theborrower · 24/12/2013 08:24

Homeiswheretheginis - if something is great value and you think you'll get loads of wear out of it down the line, get it in the sales.

Last time I got most wear out of trousers/jeans but didn't need mat tops until 5 months maybe? Then I found the tops with ruching down sides more wearable than the ones with a scrunchy bit in front, as you can only really wear those when you're big, and I never got massive.

eBay is great for maternity clothes - I got 2 pairs of new look jeans in petite (perfect fit!) and a gorgeous Boden top (for s fraction of the price) recently, all in brilliant condition. The good thing about eBay is that if you find it's not exactly what you were after, it's really easy to sell mat stuff again on eBay.

MrsA2 · 24/12/2013 08:34

Wonderful to hear news of great Christmas scans and Plate that's good you hopefully won't need an operation yet though your Consultant sounds highly unhelpful.

Awful weather here last night, lots of the local roads and flooded. We have a fence panel down - not ideal as we are trying to sell our house to move before baby arrives! The only silver lining as it least it's not the fence we are responsible for. I hope they patch it up before we get viewings...

Happy Christmas Eve everyone.
