(Take2!)

Hello all, sorry for radio silence, I have been panicking quietly since my scan as had horrible nightmares since Christmas that something was wrong. Anyhow, heartbeat and wiggling together with 1/1039 for nuchal means hopefully I can sleep better this eve!

Loving the talk turning to "bumps & bits" - can offer a few thoughts if of use!

re bumps - found awesome opaque mama tights in H&M this weekend really comfortable once I had worked out double seam goes at front. Am at the awkward stage (this is number 2) where normal clothes are limiting but not quite ready for the mat ones...finding my trusty denim skirt on most days / black jersey dress for work with strategically draped scarf!)

re bits from first pregnancy we got loads of stuff and ended up offloading it... But here goes in case of use...

Travel system got used a lot (maxi cosi / icandy apple jogger) and would highly recommend for anyone more rural based.

Change bag I found best and bought for sister/friends etc is the babymel big slouchy...great buggy straps, not too big or expensive, and fairly indestructible (has been machine washed!) and also in neutral/manly colours in case DH needs to carry it!

Baby monitor - I am going to get the BT one with a camera having seen my sisters in action -saves trips upstairs!

Rocking crib - massively useful in first few months and baby can be soothed by you rocking with foot and staying in bed!

Baby deckchair th

(Take 3!)

Baby bjorn sling- as ds1 cried whenever he was put down ( he had reflux and hated being horizontal) this meant I could eat, cook, pee etc

Hope this helps!
X

LaDay · 13/01/2014 12:08

Ps rocking crib was John Lewis one with sleepcurve mattress as ds1 had flat head...this seemed to fix it without helmets etc :-)

LaDay · 13/01/2014 12:13

PPS is anyone based in Devon? Moving there in April from Hants and don't know many bods, would be lovely to find some friendly locals!

IHatePopUpTents · 13/01/2014 14:32

Goodness knows how I didn't pee all over the sonography didn't explode with stress, but I'm happy to report a single happy and healthy baby! They did move my due date though, which I'm not happy with, I know exactly when we conceieved and they are trying to tell me in 12 weeks when I know I'm 13 :(

We have decided to find out the gender at the next scan and buy something then!!
Although, did anyone else on their second feel a little bit anti-climatic when they left the sonographers? It was lovely, but didn't feel as WOW! As last time? :/

talulahbelle · 13/01/2014 14:51

\o/ congratulations tents
My scan today was good too, got scanned twice, baby great, but they still couldn't get the nuchal measurement so I'm back on Wednesday morning.

We want to find out the gender too :)

ismarah · 13/01/2014 15:04

We want to find out the gender, I think. Mainly so we're bonding with baby boy or girl rather than baby it.

Stumbled into Mothercare today, then quickly stumbled back out again. No fun without DH, to be honest...

SmallOlympianBear · 13/01/2014 15:05

Hey Tent, wonderful news! Haven't posted for ages so forgive the massive catch-up. Plate, your post about not being able to face an extension whilst being pregnant made me smile. I was exactly the same when I was pregnant with my daughter. Scroll forward 2 years and we're having an extension, with a toddler in tow, while pregnant, and have had to bring our wedding forward which will coincide with the extension (my due date is, ahem, 2 weeks after the original wedding date, necessitating a rethink). Strangly, it still seems less daunting than dealing with a newborn!! :)

With regards to bsby essentials, I'd say a baby gym is worth it's weight in gold. Though not sure how it would work this time around with a rampaging toddler present. Also, particularly as we were blessed with a bsby who would not sleep in the Moses basket, pram etc, I learned to love my Moby wrap. We started with a Baby Bjorn but I don't think it was so comfy for her, and also she woke up if I sat down! But she slept well in the Moby and I could flake out on the sofa with a cup of tea.

Plateofcrumbs · 13/01/2014 15:13

Hi smallbear - yikes!! Although I can see myself in the same position in a few years' time!

Quick question for everyone who has their nuchal results - do you get them at the same time as your scan? I was expecting to have to wait for them to come through the post?

elliejjtiny · 13/01/2014 15:46

smallbear with a toddler you need a sturdy baby gym that is all one piece rather than the kind that you can take apart to store.

re double buggies I've got an almost worn out phil and teds. It is very bulky but I think most doubles are. I'm going to need a new one soon and I think I'll get the same again. I think they are especially good when you've got a baby and toddler because you can take a seat off for short journeys when the toddler wants to walk.

Today I felt a flutter with no accompanying fart, that must be movement, right?

Fiveleaves · 13/01/2014 15:57

Re double buggies, we will have a 22 month age gap but going to try and get by with bugaboo bee, sling and buggy board...DC1 been walking since 11 months and very confident so hope this will be ok. Probably being naive. Live up two flights of stairs in flat and limited storage space in hallway. Don't think there would be room for a double even an in line one...

I think I have felt the odd movement too!

HomeIsWhereTheGinIs · 13/01/2014 16:03

LaDay thanks for the update on tights, am making a beeline for the H&M website - my normal ones have started sliding off my tummy (cue embarrassing fumble through dress every so often).

I went to JoJo Maman Bebe this weekend and picked up three dresses, a cardigan and a bump band for the grand total of £85 which was amazing. The bump band in particular has made me enormously happy because I can now wander about with my jeans open without worrying that I'm flashing my knickers or that they'll fall down!

ismarah I know what you mean about baby shopping being more fun with DH. Although mine has decreed that we're not to buy clothing until the beginning of May. When I protested he muttered something about making sure that the nursery has been decorated and that we actually have somewhere to put all the stuff before going nuts with our purchasing. Irritatingly logical.

HomeIsWhereTheGinIs · 13/01/2014 16:05

SmallOlympianBear May I also please ask how you decided on the Moby wrap? Did you go to a sling library? Also, how often did you wear the baby as a newborn during the day? I'm slightly confused as to what I'm actually supposed to do with the baby all day when it's very young?

turnwest · 13/01/2014 16:17

I d say definitely movement ellie you feel it earlier with subsequent pregnancies because you re more aware of it. Felt my second move around 14 weeks.

Think I ll wait awhile then just go and test lots of double prams. I don't drive so the pram is really important to me, my son will be 21 months in July so I ll need a double that converts to a single later on.

LaDay · 13/01/2014 16:26

Oooh, am I missing something not knowing what a bump band is?! And top tip re Jojo sale home

Also home slinging can work or not depending on your baby...number one not lying down meant if I wanted to get anything done that was pretty much my option unless I could find someone else to hold him!

Re how to fill the days...I found it was really a 24 hour pattern broken into 4 hour shifts...up, feed, play, sleep, repeat...tried to get out the house each day eg for walk/baby session etc and felt proud if I had achieved something domestic too (eg emptying the dishwasher) - I a

Plate you should have got the measurement at the scan (mine was1.7) which used to be the whole result, now they combine it with blood results and other factors (eg age) and this its via letter. Although I confess having not heard after a week I called the mat dept where I had it done and asked them to look up for me!

...I aimed low re activities in early days!!

Plateofcrumbs · 13/01/2014 16:47

Thanks laday - I haven't had my scan yet (Wednesday...!) so just wondering what I can expect to find out.

HomeIsWhereTheGinIs · 13/01/2014 16:52

LaDay At the risk of being silly and waxing lyrical about what is, essentially, a large elastic band, a bump band is like a tube top, only you wear it under your bra and pulled down over the zip on your trousers. You then leave the fly / button open (I've got the button open and the zip closed at the moment) and put your jeans button through the band hole and the hole button through your jeans hole. Essentially it holds your trousers up but allows you to wear them open. I have this one and I'm going to buy a bunch of them! It just means you don't have to buy new maternity jeans and trousers but rather can continue to wear your usual ones.

coco808 · 13/01/2014 17:00

thanks LaDay for the info and good news on the scan Smile I live in Somerset but right on the devon border (it's 2 mins drive away) so I'm here if you need company. I'm relatively new here myself and don't know many people.
Good news on the scan again talula P.S. i'm slightly jealous of your wriggly baby, mine has been sleeping for the last three scans lol. Didn't even wave to me!! Although I can imagine it's a right pain having to go back on wednesday.

I'm totally lost....I really have no clue what baby products you lovely ladies are talking about...

coco808 · 13/01/2014 17:02

thanks homeis it looks cool...can't believe I wasted so much money on maternity jeans

LaDay · 13/01/2014 17:07

home that's awesome...I couldn't understand what was supposed to happen with them..! Might it mean there's still hope for my jeans?! :-) genius idea! Will look ad one you recommend...

coco I will be 15 min from j29m5 so Somerset is easy, look forward to a coffee when we are all moved!

Ooooh how exciting re fluttery movements, ladies, can't wait!

Officially telling work tomorrow (give me good luck!)

LaDay · 13/01/2014 17:13

Good luck with scan plate and be prepared for it to be chaotic / with a wait (take book / water etc)!

jaykay987 · 13/01/2014 17:37

plate my results took two weeks and came via letter.

home I have one, but ny trousers still fall down. Maybe I bought the wrong size?

ellentullo · 13/01/2014 17:39

Apologies to those still suffering, but Im feeling almost like a normal person again - hurrah. And someone at work told me that I didnt look ill anymore.

General question - when people are talking about "showing", do you mean when fully clothed or when standing sideways, naked, in front of the mirror trying to make an objective assessment?
