Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Howly · 04/01/2014 14:00

Brain is thoroughly addled, trying to mark year 11 mock exams and its taking me forever!! I'm yet to write reports tonight too!! Ahh!

My clothes are becoming really uncomfortable with bloated belly, I'm another 6fter so not really baby showing yet! My topshop skinny jeans cut me in half so I bought 2 pairs of asda jeggings in a size bigger than my normal and they seem comfortable at the moment!

I've just found out I'm B- blood group and have to have the anti D blood added to mine later on, I was initially worried but sounds like they have this problem covered!

ZingChoirsOfAngels · 04/01/2014 15:59

welcome bird

I'm glad you found us so you can talk here and fx for a healthy baby this time!Smile

ImMarmite · 04/01/2014 16:06

Welcome birdy, I can understand how you feel. Hopefully you will get some additional scans & they will help set your mind at ease, then you can enjoy being preggers- understand it's not easy tho x

Becky2208 · 04/01/2014 16:22

Thanks Howly - I'm glad it's not just me! I'm also Rh-, I don't think it's too much of an issue, but all the same, something else to worry about!

coco808 · 04/01/2014 16:33

thank you zing and glad to hear of the good scan Smile

coco808 · 04/01/2014 16:36

welcome bird

I'm just starting a 5000 word essay which needs to be handed in, in 3 weeks and my brain is not working must stop browsing MN and concentrate

DorotheaHomeAlone · 04/01/2014 16:36

I'm very jealous of those of you who are having scans already. I'm at the end of the july so still got 10 days to wait and so fed up of keeping this secret. Sorry if I'm being annoying by dipping in and out so much but I'm just finding everything a huge effort at the moment, even posting on Mn. I read and then feel too lethargic to write! Hope I'm not the only lazy on on here!

Tallulah, I have exactly the same issue with the eating. I only got morning sickness for a couple not weeks but I've been super sensitive about food for ages. Need to eat every couple of hours or my stomach starts growling and then I get all woozy.

DorotheaHomeAlone · 04/01/2014 16:37

Snap coco! I have an essay due in less than 2 weeks but can't stop procrastinating! I have the builders coming on Monday so am setting myself tomorrow as the final, final deadline. Seriously this time!

ellentullo · 04/01/2014 17:16

Thanks plateofcrumbs - good suggestion in the Pilates. Will pay youtube a visit. Suspect that clips of perineal massage will be harder to come by but you never know

coco808 · 04/01/2014 17:26

dorothea just out of interest, what is your topic? Smile

mine is clinical negligence in Pregnancy and Child birth...reading and analyzing all these cases....to say they are making me paranoid about childbirth is an understatement!!

DorotheaHomeAlone · 04/01/2014 17:40

coco, that sounds awful, though at least more interesting than mine. I've got a 3000 word critique on two pieces of therapy research. It's the penultimate module for an ma in relationship therapy and is absolutely dry as sand.

I used to work in regulation so have read pretty much every fitness to practise verdict on a midwife in the last 5 years. Trying to forget all the horrible cases now that i'm pregnant and remember that 99%+ of midwives never get into that sort of trouble.

coco808 · 04/01/2014 17:46

oh Dorothea I feel for you.....we can do this Grin let's motivate each other.
I know what you mean, I have to keep thinking that these are under 5% of all births.

Plateofcrumbs · 04/01/2014 18:05

coco - yikes, that wouldn't be my subject of choice at the moment! Shock

howly fellow 6fter! I've just purchased some asos maternity skinny jeans/jeggings with a 34 inch leg which are great - mmm comfy belly!

Asos sale has some good bargains in maternity wear in general, including plenty of spring/summer stuff.

elliejjtiny · 04/01/2014 19:37

Zing glad everything is ok

Re pregnancy brain. Mine gets worse with every pregnancy. This is pregnancy 8 for me so I'm terrible. Thankfully I don't have a job to get wrong but I'm really bad at sorting out forms for school and repeat prescriptions.

Bird Welcome. I've had 3 miscarriages myself so I know how scary it is.

elliejjtiny · 04/01/2014 19:40

I watched one born every minute yesterday on 4od. Somehow I thought this would be a good idea. Of course it wasn't and I was a quivering wreck by the end.

ImMarmite · 04/01/2014 19:58

Ellejjtiny.... I'm most looking forward to the birth, it's the best bit!!! Each contraction is little a count down...

The thought makes me excited & I'm still not allowing myself to get excited ????

ImMarmite · 04/01/2014 19:59

Elliejjtiny- sorry about the incorrect spelling

Incapinka · 04/01/2014 20:59

Another almost 6'er here so advice on good maternity wear would be fab as didn't really bother last time. Have a definite bulge at 12.5 weeks. Husband doesn't notice when wearing breeches so that's something. Think (hope) riding horses is keeping some stomach muscles working but probably wishful thinking! Need to start doing Pilates as not sure my back is going to make it through the next year.

Scan on Monday. Eek! And first swimming lesson for DC1. Not looking forward to pulling on a swimming costume!!

jbiscuits · 04/01/2014 21:18

ellie - I still can't bring myself to watch the Christmas Call the Midwife that I recorded, let alone one born every minute!

Becky2208 · 04/01/2014 22:06

I also made the mistake of watching One Born Every Minute - freaked myself right out and had a crying fit. And I still have to try to revise for my exam (on the riveting subject of company tax) with my decidedly addled brain. Coco and Dorothea, I definitely feel your pain!

theborrower · 04/01/2014 22:22

Last time around I used to watch OBEM and cried my eyes out every time ("oh my god, that's what I'm going to have to do etc"). Then afterwards I couldn't face watching it (had an EMCS so was "oh my god, that was me getting my tummy cut open", "look at all those happy mums having a vb" sob sob etc). I've not watched it since!

ismarah · 05/01/2014 00:29

Incapinka Tankinis are your friend! Don't have a recommendation for a good mat one though..

I've spent today reading a ginormous thread on MN and doing research. I have had no idea what hypnobirthing is (I can guess) or why it might / might not be a good idea. Same goes for pessaries, top and tail bowls, swaddling and perineal massage. Again, I can guess / have googled and now I am marginally better informed / up on the lingo. This is all a bit too real.

Good luck with papers and exams ladies - am quite smug pleased to have finished my MA, but now can't imagine going to a job interview and saying 'hire me hire me' with my belly poking out. 'Oh, this? Nothing to worry about, it's a beer belly / homage to Buddha / curry bloat / that time of the month'. Sigh.

trots off to research how to declare self-employment with zero income

DorotheaHomeAlone · 05/01/2014 09:48

Up and ready to start work on my essay. On mn instead, what a surprise! How're you going coco?

Definitely not procrastinating here, but was thinking about my scan next week and wondering what I'm supposed to ask. This is my first baby but my former job means I'm pretty up on midwifery care and lingo. Can't think of one thing I should ask. What questions should I ask at scan and booking appt?

Casmama · 05/01/2014 10:03

There is nothing you need to ask- stop procrastinating and get on with your essay- you'll feel much better once its done Wink

MargeryDaw · 05/01/2014 10:06

I haven't written on this thread yet so thought I'd pop on and say hi. I don't really have an update - still waiting on my scan on the 14th.

Re showing: I'm around 11 weeks and have been showing for about 3 weeks. So hard to hide at work (that and the fact that I've gone from multiple black coffees a day to herbal teas - a bit of a give away). This is my second so hoping it's just an early bump rather than a sign of there being more than one!

Re what to get: I didn't believe all the hype about muslins the first time around until I had a a sicky baby and we got through so many of them it was ridiculous, so definitely worth having some. The other thing I would say is accept all offers of hand me downs. Don't be picky as you can spend so much on beautiful outfits that they'll only wear once - and will get covered in sick/poo/dribble. We were given some great clothes, toys, travel cot, door bouncer etc that were all passed on from family and friends and have since been passed on again. You could spend a fortune but you really don't have to. I've also picked up some fantastic things from charity shops
