auntiemaggie Which review car seats, for safety and ease of use etc, and as far as I remember the Maxi Cosi Cabriofix was top. I think their other versions were well rated too.

You can't access all content on the website without subscribing but you can do a trial for £1. My Dad subscribed so we could look it up. But they have loads of brilliant advice on there that is free to read.

talulahbelle · 03/01/2014 12:03

Just a quick question... I'm 11 weeks tomorrow and my sickness has nearly gone, only a little bit on waking and in the evening. I'm finding now though if I don't eat every couple of hours I get very very shaky. Does anyone else have this?

I've got the beginnings of a bump too, I tried to suck my stomach in and it's definitely not flat anymore Grin Shock

AuntieMaggie · 03/01/2014 12:19

Thanks theborrower I'll have a look.

talulahbelle no I don't get that but used to because of pcos - try reducing your carbs/sugar intake (including fruit) and have more protein and eating little and often. (I have gone off all protein apart from cheese and bacon so easier said than done I know!)

talulahbelle · 03/01/2014 12:22

I'll try that auntie although it's only regular carbs that have cured the sickness - and about the only protein I'm liking at the moment are dairy products and the occasional bit of ham.

bluec2 I forgot to say congratulations on your scan, how far along are you?

AuntieMaggie · 03/01/2014 12:55

I know how that feels talulah

elliejjtiny · 03/01/2014 13:24

I've got a moses basket. DS1 slept in it for 8 weeks, DS2 for 14 months, DS3 for 9 months and DS4 will be coming out of it soon, he is 7 months. So it really varies.

I've currently got a phil and teds buggy that is nearly 6 years old and falling apart so I need a new double buggy. Will probably be boring and get another one the same. I'd like something smaller and more easily foldable ideally but it also needs to be sturdy, easy to push with a big basket for the changing bag and school stuff so tank like contraption it needs to be!

MrsB2013 · 03/01/2014 14:18

Hi everyone!!

Blue great news on the scan! Thanks for all the info on what a baby needs!

I had a look at prams yesterday, my favourites so far are the Uppababy Vista, Silver Cross Wayfarer and Bugaboo Cameleon (Loved it but very expensive, so wont be getting it :( ) I do want a Maxi Cosi carseat as have read they are good and my friends all seem to have that one!

For all the experienced ladies, is there much difference with moses baskets? Are the expensive ones really that much better? Is there anything you bought that was a complete waste of money? There is so much out there to buy, a first timer like me would end up buying it all lol

Hi everyone, hope everyone had a nice break and is feeling well. A quick check-in to say I've had my 12-week scan too and both babies looking very healthy. A huge relief, I must say!

turnwest · 03/01/2014 15:22

lemon many congrats on scan, glad both babies are healthy.

Started looking at mat clothes today, I m only just 12 weeks but definitely have bump, it's my third though so I expected it. Asos have some quite good stuff, picked up quite a few summer tops and a few dresses in the sale. Worth a look anyway.

Plateofcrumbs · 03/01/2014 16:04

Congratulations blue and lemon* on your scans!

Excuse the moan: am feeling rubbish today - threw up first thing and have been feeling sick constantly since then. Feeling crappy and useless. I was feeling buoyant that I'd been spared from the worst of MS but it seems to be getting worse.

jaykay987 · 03/01/2014 16:23

mrsb - uppababy vista was my favourite. Took DH to John Lewis today and it was the first time I had engaged with a salesperson. Im now definitely convinced.

auntie - some peaks are compatible with car seats, rather than come with iyswim. For example the uppababy vista we are looking at is compatible with the maxi cosi rear facing pebble. So best of both worlds.

not sure about Moses baskets mrsb. I am currently thinking of using the uppababy vista bassinet for downstairs sleeping and a glider JL crib for our room. I think mentally moving from a crib to a cot in a few months will be easier than from a Moses basket to a cot. But I could be wrong!

Casmama · 03/01/2014 16:30

The biggest waste of money for us the last time was a baby bath- idea was we could bath DS in the living room?!? Or something, anyway, didn't consider we would then need to carry a bath full of water. Didn't even use it inside our own bath as DS was so little at first I used the kitchen sink and later just held him in the bath.

Casmama · 03/01/2014 16:34

Used a crib my mum had kept since I was a baby (with a new mattress obviously) but had friends with Moses basket and they grow out of them so quickly you are probably best just getting the cheapest.

We spent a fortune on a travel system but by the time I went back to work (DS was 9 months) I wished we had just got a lightweight Maclaren or something. Yes it is beneficial to not have to wake a newborn but not sure it is really worth all the money. Each to their own though.

jbiscuits · 03/01/2014 17:38

well I had an interesting afternoon - came very close to passing out in not 1 but 2 different banks, which was rather embarrassing. fortunately DH was with me and able to explain to the lovely cashiers why I suddenly ducked down behind the counters and stuck my head between me legs!

MrsB - I really like the silver cross wayfarer too, my only concern is whether the smaller wheels would be any good for things like going to the park over the grass etc. I've not had much of a look at many others though.

as for cribs/moses baskets, my mum still has both from when I was little and wants me to have them (although this involves some sort of plan of passing it round all the siblings' first borns, so we'll probably have to buy one in the long run anyway)

funkymonk · 03/01/2014 18:01

Hi Ladies, Could someone remove me from the list please. I only just remembered that I was on this thread as well as August one. Silent miscarriage identified 18th Dec at 8+2.

Good luck to you all.

Casmama · 03/01/2014 18:05

So sorry funkymonk

Incapinka · 03/01/2014 18:29

Moses baskets.... We were given 2 by friends. Rich friends gave us a beautiful wicker basket. Normal friends gave us a cheap plasticy woven basket from a French supermarket. Tried DS in wicker basket and he hated it. It was quite flimsy even though it looked nice. Put him in the cheapo one and he loved it. So I would look at the size - make sure it is wide enough - and that the sides are sturdy.

coco808 · 03/01/2014 18:33

i really like the zoom and the uppababy?! its too confusing though
blue thanks for all the info

could anyone please tell me when we can expect to feel the baby?? Xmas Grin I simply can't wait for that moment!

liquidstate · 03/01/2014 18:56

DHs sister has the uppababy vista. She has it in red so if we go for it we will have to have a different colour which suits me. Her MIL also works for JL so we get a 25% discount which is nice. The amount of pink and blue out there is scary.

We have luckily been offered a brand new moses basket by friends and DHs old cot bed which is 30+ years old but was solid oak by the ILs.

On a completely different note my DH has gone to two chinese takeaways tonight to get me a takeaway as I am off my food (and the local one was shut). Bless him! Grin

ismarah · 03/01/2014 20:40

Been feeling really low and weird today which was kind of freaking me out because I've been so happy with bean and suddenly today it felt like a total crash. Then finally it twigged tonight - I have a cold which has triggered feeling all poorly and sorry for myself. Poor DH has had to go get some late chips for dinner to cheer me up.

Oh well. Tomorrow is another day.

icklekid · 03/01/2014 20:44

Oh dear hope you feel better soon ismara. I know this is really early but is anyone else started to think (look forward to) about when they might finish work? Due 11th July and currently thinking end of June but as a teacher I realise I may be exhausted before then!

AuntieMaggie · 03/01/2014 20:50

Has anyone seen zing today?

MrsB2013 · 03/01/2014 20:55

So sorry Funkymonk :(

so sorry funkymonk

AuntieMaggie I'll have a look for her. I'm waiting for the washing machine to finish so I can go to bed.

elliejjtiny · 03/01/2014 21:08

She hasn't posted on mumsnet today. Hope everything was ok at the scan and she is busy with all her DC's at home for the holidays.
