ZingChoirsOfAngels · 02/01/2014 08:53

talulah

hopefully it's nothing, it's bright red blood that you need to watch out for.
are you going to ask MW/GP though?

talulahbelle · 02/01/2014 09:12

I'm not sure there's much point zing The best I could hope for would be a scan next week sometime, I've got one on the 13th anyway. I'm not having any other cramps and no more spotting. DH has been told that we won't be doing it again for a while!

AuntieMaggie · 02/01/2014 09:37

MrsA the same is happening at my work and I'm also worried about things jaykay mentioned too. I'm telling work when I go back on 6 Jan. I also do a lot of travel and I had a couple of incidents that have put me off going back to London.

Blue me too with cocopops (just realised I ran out yesterday :( )

I am completely lost where/when to start with baby stuff!

Plateofcrumbs · 02/01/2014 10:13

talulah - a bit of brown blood after sex is common, try not to worry!

jaykay - would definitely check your reaction to the antibiotics out with pharmacist or NHS Direct.

On buying stuff in sales: summer sales normally start in June so we get another bite of the cherry. I'm nowhere near ready to make any big purchases yet. I am however looking at maternity clothes! Any good brands worth looking at?

liquidstate · 02/01/2014 11:24

auntiemaggie am the same with regards to baby stuff. Have been very organised and used the checklist from the John Lewis baby brochure to start a spreadsheet so I can keep track of who is lending us what and what we need to get.

Can I brag about our first baby purchase? Its a lovely cream leather recliner and footstool that I can use for feeding and later on for bedtime stories in the nursery. Got it from an outlet store reduced from £700 to £135. Am recovering from a whiplash back injury so think it will be very useful but otherwise completely non essential. Grin

liquidstate · 02/01/2014 11:29

I bought some stuff from H & M and New look last week in the sales. Just jeans and a few long tops. I found H & M jeans to tight on the leg (am chunky of calf) so new look were better, plus they had straight leg and bootcut jeans too. Overall I think both are a good price. I have invested in some stretchy skirts from New Look too which will take me through the early bump phase.

AuntieMaggie · 02/01/2014 13:12

liquidstate is that brochure online?

I've just been looking at car seats - we've decided to go with rear facing car seat but I have no clue if our car has isofix fittings!

liquidstate · 02/01/2014 13:43

cant see the brochure online but the checklist is...

www.johnlewis.com/inspiration-and-advice/family/archive/nursery-checklist

elliejjtiny · 02/01/2014 14:47

talulah I had that with DS1, try not to worry (easier said than done)

DS4 has an appointment at the hospital next Friday so the booking in appointment has had to be postponed again. Hopefully I will get one before I give birth!

MrsA2 · 02/01/2014 17:45

Blue your comment this morning made a lot of sense, given that they might have guessed anyway I thought it best to tell them sooner rather than later.

My boss and team were fantastic about it, but I'm really nervous something is happening next week as it was suggested to me not to worry about telling HR until next wk as they'd still be in holiday mode. I ignored that and emailed them regardless, but do have a worrying feeling that something is going down... Oh well, nothing I can do if so.

Sorry you are facing similar issues Auntie, it's the last thing we need isn't it!

mamachelle · 02/01/2014 17:46

Hi all, hope youre well!

just a very quick update to say that i had my dating scan today. I am now due on the 11th instead of the 10th and im so very excited now i have seen the baby :)

I am going to have a good old read and catch up on monday when the girls are back at school and i have got more time.

coco808 · 02/01/2014 17:49

jaykay you should really stop the antibiotics ASAP. Is it augumentin or amoxicillin? sounds like you are having an allergic reaction. If the GP can give you alternative ones, you should continue getting better.

glad to hear about your scan mamachelle

coco808 · 02/01/2014 17:50

omg all the baby stuff is mind-boggling! I only found out yesterday what a moses basket was! Blush

AuntieMaggie · 02/01/2014 20:12

Do we need a moses basket as well as a crib? And if I buy a pram how long will I use it for? (These are the questions going through my head today... as well as why can't DP just like one of the hundreds of names I've suggested???)

MrsA2 · 02/01/2014 21:12

Is a crib different to a cot?! Is the crib the swinging mini cot thing? Am I really mature enough to have this baby?!

Khaleesi1985 · 02/01/2014 21:15

This is my first so I might not be the best source of information but...we're getting a moses basket and a cot bed. Baby should go in the moses basket in your room for the first few months and then can go in the crib/cot in his/her room. If you go with a cot bed it will convert to a toddler bed and you'll get much more use out of it. Hope that helps!

I'm still trying to figure out the pram/buggy thing as well.... :)

ismarah · 02/01/2014 21:36

Eurgh. Went to H&M today and apparently in the branch I was in feels that pregnant women are all a size xs and should be hidden away out of sight. Needless to say I didn't buy anything there. Online shopping is less sweaty, less sweary and less embarrassing.

Thanks to whoever mention the June sales - made me feel a bit better about not being interested in baby shopping so early.

We're planning on a cot bed and a hammock bed (space issues) in our room instead of a moses basket or a crib. We're also going try and find a pushchair that will do from birth or 6months and last a while. The 6month one would be used with a car seat initially. I quite like the look of some of the three wheel, more rugged versions of push chairs but I'm not quite sure why...maybe the big wheels on them? Baby joggers etc. Probably the push chair will the most expensive thing we invest in - the rest will be big blue box and eBay.

Anyone else freaked out by the rib cage expansion thing? Ribs are not supposed to move. New bra size today - even when I was 20lbs heavier than I am now my bra band didn't change. It's a bizarre feeling.

AuntieMaggie · 02/01/2014 22:06

I already have a crib from looking after a baby before that will go in our room (a small rocking cot thing MrsA) so was wondering about a Moses basket for downstairs. The baby that used the crib before was ok in it until he was able to pull himself up!

I want a pram attachment on the pushchair as its better for the baby to be able to stretch and don't think it's good for them to be in a car seat for long periods and I'm intending to do lots of walking.

ItsAlwaysBetterOnHoliday · 02/01/2014 23:32

The rib thing is really freaking me out too, ismarah! Still getting random pains there too!

Plateofcrumbs · 03/01/2014 00:16

Yeah the rib cage thing is weird. I need to buy some new bras. I am however delighted that for the first time in my life I have cleavage Grin. I suppose people checking out your rack gets tiresome after a while, but for now it's a novelty.

Did my favourite running circuit today and then some pregnancy Pilates exercises. Subsequently have been Absolutely. Wiped. Out. Had a 4 hour 'nap' this afternoon and was still falling asleep on sofa after that. Where has my energy gone?

NancyinCali · 03/01/2014 03:50

We had a Moses basket/bassinet last time and she grew out of it by 3 months so used a travel cot until moving her into her own cot in her room.

This time we're going to get a co-sleeper that attaches to our bed (basically like a cot with one side missing) and try and keep baby in it until 6 months. By which point hopefully we can move him or her into DD's room and they can share. That may be foolish. Grin

As far as pram/pushchair goes I think we're going to get a double that can accommodate a car seat or a carrycot and a second seat for the toddler. It's useful to be able to clip the car seat in when you're running errands and don't want to transfer out of car seat and wake the sleeping newborn. We'll see how independent the toddler is with walking by then, she constantly wants to be carried at the moment! The other option is to use a carrier for the new baby and our simple buggy for the toddler for short trips.

BlueC2 · 03/01/2014 06:22

5.40am wide awake - scan in 4 hours!

Re. Chat above on baby bits:
sleeping we were given a Moses basket to use for DS1 and I just bought a new mattress for it (about £10). He slept in it til about 16 weeks but was quite a small baby. I think 12 weeks more usual. He was only in our room for 3 nights then in his own room as I found him too noisy and couldn't sleep Blush we lived in a flat though and kept doors open so were literally no more than 5-6 steps from him all the time. Never used our monitor. We've now moved to a house so DC2 may stay in our room longer or we may move into their room and use the monitor-i'm open to see what we want to do.

bed we also bought a cot bed which DS1 still using as a cot and can then convert to a toddler bed. We have also been given a digger toddler bed though so we will keep DS1 in cot with sides up as long as possible to prevent wandering and then move him into his new room with the digger bed and his mattress, get new mattress for the cotbed and pop DC2 in there. Hopefully this will all coincide around Oct/Nov time when DC2 ready to leave Moses basket!

pram etc this was our most expensive purchase! We bought a 3 wheeler Zoom travel system from mamas and papas. It has been great. We used it predominantly with the car seat attached until DS1 was 6m-so convenient for popping out! Make sure you get a raincover for the car seat though-despite heat wave when DS1 born we first used it when he was 2weeks old while friends were messing around with draping blankets! Our system was v easy to manoeuvre and had huge basket for storage which was great-never carry shopping again :). It did also come with a carrycot attachment which I confess to only ever using twice Blush as DS1 not keen - he preferred being cosily snuggled in the car seat and was too hot to bundle him up to be cosy in the carrycot. At 11months we were heading on holiday so I got a second hand umbrella-fold style pushchair and have used that ever since as it's narrower to get on buses etc and has better sunshade. However I loved having DS1 facing me in the big pushchair as we could chat as we walked places!

bouncer chair IMO one of the best things I got was my babybjorn bouncer. DS1 did a lot of his daytime naps in it to start with a loved chillin in it watching what was happening. I could easily keep him with me when he was in it and even take him into bathroom if I wanted to have a bath or shower! These chairs are expensive but we got ours second hand from eBay and was in as new condition. They hold their value so I will sell on when we're done with it.

change bag lastly and something that's quite personal yo you but a great thing to ask DH or DM to treat you too! I really struggled to choose as I like leather handbags but opted for an OiOi one in the end (as a treat-def had more money then!!). But the Pacapod ones are probably some of the best-search online and if you like things organised then you will probably fall in love! I have a 'changing pod' I use in my bag and it's so so handy.

Sorry for the super long post. Hope some of it is useful! I found a spreadsheet, lots of research and deciding which were the items I was most opinionated about helped me prioritise spending! Happy planning! Oh and finally I set up a gift list on John Lewis website so could direct people there if they asked what we needed-much easier than trying to remember what you said to who!

Now wonder if I can get back to sleep Hmm

icklekid · 03/01/2014 08:04

Thanks blue that is really useful and makes a lot of sense. The zoom was the buggy I like best at the moment anyway so you have just concreted that decision! Hope you get back to sleep!

AuntieMaggie · 03/01/2014 10:18

Good luck for your scans today ladies :)

There is research that spending too long in a car seat restricts the babies breathing and affects their physical development so I'm keen not to use one for anything other than travelling especially in the first few months. As we're getting a rear facing seat fitted in the car that will serve the baby up to about 3/4 years its unlikely that it can be used on a pushchair anyway.

One thing that completely baffles me is how do you know how safe the car seat that comes with the pushchair is?

BlueC2 · 03/01/2014 10:56

Just checking in to say all was well at the scan although little one was v content sat on it's bottom in the most inconvenient position for taking measurements so I had to have an internal scan to get the measurements-oh the joy! But better that and know all is well. Due date changed to 12th July.
