Still puking here Bezza too. Eased up a bit but still off work as the only way I can manage it and not vomit multiple times a day is by being quite still. It was like this with ds1 and ds2 though so I sort of expected it. Feeling quite down about it all if I'm honest, I feel isolated and bored as well as a useless lump. Please tell me to buck up my ideas!

AuntPittypat · 12/12/2013 21:39

I'd definitely recommend NCT too. I still meet up with most of my group at least once a week more than two years post birth and agree with whoever upthread said their NCT group helped keep their sanity through the early days! It was brilliant to know a group of people - in my case all within walking distance - who were going through the exact same thing as me. It meant we could just wander to each others' houses or to the local coffee shops almost in our pyjamas, having not showered for days and know that we could have a cup of tea, feed our babies however and whenever we liked, whinge about lack of sleep and not be judged at all as the other person would be in exactly the same state! I think my maternity leave would have been so much harder without my NCT group.

I've had friends who have done hospital ante-natal classes and I think the main downside is that you will tend to live further away from each other as each hospital has such a big 'catchment' area whereas NCT groups (as far as I know) group people together based on a smaller locality. That might just be London though...

Congrats on the scans today! Did we ever work out who/when the last scan is?

This thread is going to get used up quickly at this rate.

I have a horrible achey left leg tonight, I don't know if it's pregnancy related or just a random thing. It aches all the way up from my foot to my thigh and feels a bit like a dead leg, very annoying! Anyone else had similar??

InTheBEEwitchedWinter · 12/12/2013 21:54

Well, it seem as if in principle you are entitled to paid time off for NCT classes, which is good news for me.

I've checked, and the corresponding NHS classes my hospital offers are on the two evenings a week a work, too, so it doesn't make any odds which one I pick, I always have to take time off work to attend.

Wickedwiggle86 · 12/12/2013 22:04

Thanks for the link bee I must admit I didn't really look at silver cross as I assumed they would be heavy but 10kg is more than reasonable! On another note, I have been on fybogel with no success for over a week; bought some prune juice this even ing and think I may have overdone it as now my belly is decidedly gurgly Blush

Wickedwiggle86 · 12/12/2013 22:05

Oops sorry, stupid phone!

SicknSpan · 12/12/2013 22:07

I did the NHS antenatal classes with Ds1 and then refreshers with ds2. They were really good, covered lots of subject matter and I made lots of friends. In fact we are all still in touch regularly, kids see each other at clubs etc even if not at same school. Lots of evening meet ups too! I met my very best friend in the whole world at the first class I went to when expecting ds1.

In my area NCT classes are strictly for the lentil weavers and yummy mummies. Not that there is anything wrong with being these things it's just not me!

Welcome to sassafraz

seatfor5 · 12/12/2013 22:08

Vicky I get that leg thing too :) yesterday it was really bad in both legs! I was told that bananas help and they really do I usually have one after dinner (I ran out last night thus leg pains) tonight had my banana and on aches, worth a shot :)

superlambanana · 12/12/2013 22:27

Marking place... Too tired to read beyond last thread or type anything so will catch up tomorrowzzzzzzzz.......

Vickyvix · 12/12/2013 22:28

Thanks seat I just so happen to have a stash of bananas in the kitchen so I will give that a go

Bezzabelle · 12/12/2013 22:56

Hi sick, was wondering how you were, I will not tell you to buck your ideas up, only give you lots of sympathy- it's really rough throwing up all the time and I know the week before I started feeling a big better, I was thinking I couldn't do this anymore and just wanted to crawl in a big hole somewhere and be out to sleep. I still dread every morning as know the sick comes as soon as I open my eyes and I have to get ready really slowly thinking any other person would but even consider leaving the house if they had already thrown up three times and feel like utter crap! However from about 10am, it eases so I feel really lucky as know it could be worse. Hang in there, it's not forever and each day you do is one closer to the finish line. Thinking of you.

jaykay987 · 12/12/2013 23:41

wow - 90 posts on the new thread already? we really are a chatty lot! Grin

panic did you get on ok? you disappeared!

I am keen to do nct as I don't know anyone within an hour of my house. But, am I the only one who is worried about making friends? What if my group aren't friendly and they're not interested in making friends? or worse they form a group, without me!?!
There are currently two classes advertised for my due date in my immediate area. One is primarily evenings, one weekends only. I keep changing my mind as to which class with have the nicest people in it! Picking the 'wrong' class cou be the difference between making friends and never leaving the house again!
apparently a side effect of pregnancy is high anxiety and paranoia Smile

jaykay987 · 12/12/2013 23:42

forgot to add.....Sarah if you're uncomfortable - book it as holiday. I think I will.

Emmazers · 12/12/2013 23:43

seat They have improved it slightly but importantly it's not "knee to knee" (as no forward facing carrier really can be) so still won't be recommended by trained consultants. Have you had a look at the smart looking ergonomic alternatives? I mean buckled carriers, not wraps like Moby? Like this for example:
www.mothercare.com/Manduca-Standard-Edition-Carrier---Petrol/720128,default,pd.html

summerbaby2014 · 13/12/2013 02:56

I'm not on the list yet. Due on the 15th :)
Seem to be having a bit of insomnia, that's a first so far

MrsCharlieD · 13/12/2013 07:01

Thank you for adding me to the list vicky x x

MarlenaGru · 13/12/2013 07:36

jaykay the only ones in my group who didn't make friends were the ones who couldn't be bothered. If you want to make friends you definitely will.

Sarah I love my job! but I was happy to take one day's leave for what was quite a lovely experience with just the other mums. You should have all your year's leave to take by June if you have a January leave year and you plan on 6 months or more maternity leave so a day should be doable. Plus you really will be knackered by then. Have a read of December or January's groups and they are all wishing their maternity leave would start. Well, the vast majority anyway.

SarahAnderson · 13/12/2013 08:25

I wonder how I’ll feel in June! Right now, I'm planning on working as much as possible right up until the last minute, not taking any leave pre-baby unless I physically cannot work any more.

Liquidambar · 13/12/2013 08:37

good morning.

I'm so sick today! ! It seems strange that ms would only hit me this hard at 13+4. Perhaps it's a stomach virus :-(

re classes. I did the nct weekend one because I wanted dh to attend. In all honesty it wasn't great. Most people lived far away and had only come for the weekend. I did the NHS ones and found it much more helpful and that's where I met my very good friends. we still in touch and meet very often. funny enough we are all pregnant now with Dc#2. My advice is to go for weekly classes as you are more likely to find people who live near you.

Redcliff · 13/12/2013 09:16

Thanks for the tip re refreshers NCT as I had no idea. I couldn't really afford it last time round and didn't make any friends at NHS class although there was only 3 couples including me and DP. After the birth I got invited to a new mums group and again just 3 of us ( which thinking about it is really odd as my LA has one of the highest birth rates in the UK) but the three of us became friends which was great.

Am thinking I will try and hang on at work as long as I can mainly for the extra time with baby but also where I work is being sold next year and the extra protection being on mat leave brings me could make all the difference. Does that sound terrible? I haven't been there that long so any redundancy pay is likely to be pretty low.

Riblet · 13/12/2013 09:37

Woohoo, I'm on the new list Grin Can't believe there are so many of us now, the list is huge!

Glad I'm not the only one who finds the whole pram shopping thing a minefield- we haven't even been into a shop yet and my head is swamped with it all. Have also been thinking about slings/carriers a bit as had planned to get one when I thought I was just having one, but even though I know you can get twin ones I can imagine it being awkward/heavy! Will see though.

Thanks for all the responses re, NCT - I am a bit worried that as you say Sicknspan it's going to be all yummy mummies- as much as I would like to be one, I don't think I will be! The other problem is that neither of the local groups is in my part of town- don't mind travelling but doubt anyone who attends will live that close to me. One is closer than the other, but the further one seems to have a lot more going on and more in town so I could get the train or bus, whereas the nearer one, although it sounds more close knit and maybe less 'yummy', doesn't sound like it does as much and I'd have to drive, which I try to avoid if I can and definitely will avoid with two babies! Agh, first world problems eh?!

Great news on yet more positive scans, especially after uncertainty for some. Plus, it's Friday! Smile

Riblet · 13/12/2013 09:41

Redcliffe it doesn't sound terrible at all, you need to look after your own interests whatever happens. If you think it'll help to hang on and you feel ok physically waiting as long as possible then it sounds like you're doing the right thing.
